Caroline Nagel and Miert Lindboe What are you talking about? There is no foundation to the unfounded notion that "a doe will abandon or KILLher fawn if she detects human scent on the baby". Shame on you for spreading such ridiculous untruths. I do agree that the fawn should not be disturbed or touched unless it has obvious injuries. The doe will return for her fawn after she has finished foraging.

In the Battle of Hurtgen Forest during WW2, the forest was so dense and dark and hard to navigate that the German and Allied medics shared an aid station in the only building either could easily find.

I did a little bit of research because I refused to believe that was whale oil everytime I see oil it's all jumbled up rainbow not a straight color fade from one to the other this article https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6633300/amp explains how this happens. Those are cypress trees and that is pretty normal around them as the water is usually full of decomposing matter which does have oil in it and accumulates on the surface like that. Most of the oil reserves in the world came from decaying plant matter not animals.

The Redwood Forest in northern California is famous for its towering redwood trees which can grow more than 350 feet tall. This is the height on an average skyscraper. Some redwood trees are so big that miniature forests grow on their upper branches.

Perspective wise, this doesn't make sense. The "line" where's the pond comes up to would not be the same on the trees in the foreground AND the trees further back in the woods. There would be variation in highly the further back the trees are from the foreground. I THINK this may be photoshopped for effect.

Awesome. She probably felt a lot closer to her late husband more than ever after been given these. Talk about "watching over someone". Talk about "recieving a gift and a message" from beyond the grave and from the afterlife. It's a kind of lovely reminder that he's watching over you and also what a beautiful reminder that his love transcends death and was real and even after death it will always find you no matter what.

Those are Madame Sherri's Castle Ruins in Chesterfield. According to newengland.com: "Stories swirl around these ruins and its former occupant, but most folks in the area seem to agree on a few points: Madame Antoinette Sherri, a costume designer from New York, began buying land in the small village of Chesterfield, New Hampshire, in the late 1920s; she planned to build an extravagant summer home on the property. Her mantra, purportedly, was “Only the best,” and for years she threw wildly lavish parties at her “castle,” hosting an eclectic band of friends from the city. Until her money ran out, that is. Madame Sherri eventually moved on, leaving the chateau to fall into disrepair, and it burned down on October 18, 1962. What remains today is the stonework from the staircase, the foundation, columns, and a fireplace."

This one really gets me. I had a tree I loved very much. It was at my grams house. I spent HOURS under and in it for years. It was my play fortresses, my safe place to be, and my place to nap. A few years after she sold the house the new owners let me walk the back yard. They cut it down and I sat in his broken pile and cried. I took a piece and my dad made a heart pendant for me out of it. It's one of my favorite treasures.

As far as things dumped, ceramics is pretty inert. The majority of components is hardened clay and silica (sand). Ceramic glaze is basically glass. It's hard to recycle (breaking back into usable, raw components) and the energy needed to heat it until the glaze becomes fluid again is not ecologically sound. Left on its own, it will eventually break down into sand and earth again. As far as up-cycling or reuse (using again without breaking down), I doubt anyone who wanted material would be turned away from taking it.

Have you reported it (to the police or such)? Here in Germany undetonated ammunition/missiles/guns from WW2 are found all the time - they are still dangerous as they could accidentally go off. Probably no that much of a problem for you since I guess Tennessee isn't near as densely populated as Germany, but still. There are people out there who make a living removing stuff like this safely - let them know there's a job for them!

In the area around my hometown (Ypres, Belgium), it's a very normal thing to call the demining services. A century after WW1, 250 tons of unexploded ammunition (5% of which is chemical) is still found every year in an area of just over 1000 square km. It's a serious hazard for construction workers and farmers, as the ammunition becomes more unstable over the decades.

Dont know about america, but in Germany it would be considered unsportsman-like if not downright illegal... setting food out while waiting in a tree for a deer or elk to walk past so the hunter has an easy kill? Movie prop for an indie film more likely. Coffins weren't built like that, with solid square interior posts. Also, not long enough, and if it was a coffin it wouldn't have been buried even near enough shallow for erosion to do that, and the very obvious mulch inside would be the same color as the ground around it due to weathering. You can tell it was dug into and set very precisely into the ground at that level. Movie prop.

There is a TV show called "Battlefield Recovery" where people are excavating things like this that were left in many places in Europe after WW1 & 2 . I love it when history and reality TV meld. "Mud Men" tv show is along the same lines if you're into this sort of thing.

In much of the world, you spit on someone out of anger, spite, disgust etc. It's not like a full-fledged, phlegm-flying-through-the- air kind of spit, but more of a dry "ptoo" in somebody's direction.

In 1962 a military jet, a Lockheed T2V-1 SeaStar to be exact, encountered critical problems or ran out of fuel and crashed in “a heavily wooded swamp infested with venomous snakes” in West Milford, N.J. According to the Milford Messenger newspaper (article no longer found online), the plane took off from Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn before encountering trouble, at which point the ejection system failed and the two crew on board were forced to crash land about 300 yards from a residential neighborhood. The plane remained largely intact and both survived without major injuries. They were picked up by emergency personnel shortly after, and the army later airlifted the engine out for salvage, but left the rest of the plane behind.
