The problem with the world is the people who should be in power don't want power, and the people who want power shouldn't get it
With educational content on social media getting more and more popular, we often see information presented as “facts.” And while most of us are aware of the fact that every bit of information on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt, or rather a whole bag of it, often we fall into the trap of misinformation.
But why does it happen? Why are people so vulnerable to fake news and misinformation? Researchers suggest that confirmation bias may be to blame. Confirmation bias refers to our tendency to seek out information which confirms things that we either already know or that we believe to be true.
I don’t seem to have one then. I’ve always ended up with toxic people and nothing in me has ever told me that they’re the wrong person untill it’s too late and I’m hurt badly by them
The more you know, the more you wish you didn't know what you know. Flowers for Algernon anyone?
No wonder we are much more likely to believe “facts” that conform to our beliefs. In the same way, we may be tempted to turn a blind eye to facts that contradict our beliefs. Fake news seem to be using confirmation bias to its advantage.
It’s also important to note that social media is a breeding ground for the spread of fake news. A study from Stanford University found that 41.8 visits to fake news websites came from social media, compared to just 10.1 percent of social referrals going to top news sites on average.
“Fake news spreads so quickly due to factors that concern both the content of the messages and the technological foundation of platforms on which the news is proliferated,” Daniel Markuson, a cybersecurity expert at NordVPN, told Bored Panda.
In my experience, the poorest people are the ones who will give you their time, their heart and their last penny. The richest are the ones who make you not exist with their indifference.
“Fake news usually relates to current affairs and makes remarkable, emotion-inducing claims. This, combined with the fact that social media platforms collect data on what kind of posts users spend the most time on and feed them content with similar characteristics, provides the perfect conditions for the spread of misinformation,” he explained.
You probably have heard of claims that fake news spreads faster than real news. We asked Daniel if that’s true. “It depends on the quality of real news. Fake news tends to sound shocking, so naturally, people show more interest in it. However, if the real news is shocking or important enough to many people, it can spread as quickly as fake news,” he said.
Wish my friend would realize this. She could be much happier without her so called father in her life
Not necessarily. I cut a person out whom I absolutely do not hate. But I realized we're at extremely different points in live and our values differ too much to have meaningful interactions. Then she got pregnant and I just knew she would not ne a mom I could be friends with. She's not a horrible person at all and I wish her only the best. We're just too different. So I gently laid her off and eventually cut her out of my life. I hear she's happy and I'm glad she is.
Load More Replies...Except it can very often be because you hate them. What's up with this poster not understanding the difference between facts, as their username implies the account is about, and opinions?
But I do hate most of them and will be so glad when I can cut out more.
I know someone who has cut herself off from all her siblings and won't tell them why. Believe me, it has nothing to do with self respect.
I've always said, if you wouldn't have that person as a friend, then release them. It makes no difference if the toxic person is a relative. No difference.
Looking at you, Weezil from high school. Don't blame you for no longer talking to me 🙂
When talking about fake news and misinformation, it’s important to note the role bots play in its spread. Daniel explained that bots are autonomous programs that are used to perform certain actions online without human interaction.
“Fake news is typically spread by malicious parties, which can develop bots to spread fake news. That is done to spread fake information more effectively by eliminating the problem of limited human resources,” the cybersecurity expert concluded.
I feel pretty blessed because tho I spend most of my time alone, I’m pretty satisfied with my company (plus my dog)
It’s human nature to want to confide in someone you trust when you’re having problems in a relationship. That doesn’t mean the whole relationship is problematic. We just don’t normally call to confess everything they’ve done to make us happy. So your friend loves that person for a reason, keep that in mind when they’re venting about a negative experience, it doesn’t mean it’s over.
Being alone isn't the same as being lonely. You can be terribly lonely in the midst of poor company
It's ok to say I love you a lot more. To anyone you care about. You might never see them again
Be with a friend who will help you up every time you fall. After they've stopped laughing and taking selfies
If you find it, keep it? If you value loyalty, then instead of just keeping it, you should also reciprocate it.
If you were born to make mistakes, maybe rethink a career as a nuclear physicist
I find that smiling to customers who are rude to you makes them doubt what they are saying and possibly even fear you. Its great!!
If the future love of my life finds me attractive bc of what I wear instead of my laugh/smile, aura, whatever then no thanks and come on !!! who has the time to dress up to the nines when they need to work, shop, pick up kids, get petrol, etc. My imagination just saw someone pointing to a beautiful dress and going "ooooooh, I wanna date that dress" LOL
There is always something to be grateful for. But it doesn't mean you have to be grateful for everything
Don't be afraid of not growing old. Today is the day that counts. Make your todays count.
Maturity is also knowing when to speak up when they see injustices occuring, even if it comes at a personal cost.
*every day. Two words. Everyday (one word) means mundane or boring.
The only constant is change. The only fear is fear. I know this, yet constantly fear inevitable change.
If someone doesn't respect you in front of you, they won't respect you when you're not there anymore as well. Just surround yourself with better people and move on
How is it we can love sone then get divorced and absolutely hate their guts..love turned to hate...?
I can do this. Before cell phones, I forgot the alarm clock at home when I was leaving for a trip and for a week I always woke up at the same time in the morning only with the help of my mind.
An abusive relationship is a waste of time. There is nothing to be learnt from being abused
The arrogance of "intelligent" people can be a block to hearing something clever a less intelligent person might contribute. That arrogance makes highly educated people thinks they alone have the one correct way to do something.
Your body makes babies and poop. Your smile makes your cheeks hurt if you do it too long. Your personality can make you a psychopath if you don't win the genetic lottery. Just everyone do the best you can with what you've got
I've always found men who smell strongly of perfume suspicious. As if they were hiding something. It doesn't help that the sense of smell and taste become stronger during ovulation.
No. If you know that not everything will go as you expect in life, you have the realism to keep your expectations high because you are prepared for disappointment.
Is it ok to be sad though when your best friend describes their awesome weekend out with their best friend, and you know you weren't with them that weekend?
Counter-examples: the Boston Strangler, Donald Trump, any televangelist, used car salesmen, ...
Post traumatic growth is a real thing, and it can change lives. But trauma is sometimes just trauma, and you can have that s**t back.
This kind of c**p upsets me. Mental illness can cause negative thoughts. You cannot just "smile" them away. Even someone who does not have a mental illness may have a real reason to be unhappy. Maybe their life is really bad right now. Like, sorry you found out you have cancer and your dog just died, but you know, you caught the cancer early and your dog isn't suffering anymore so you should be HAPPY! F- OFF and quit with very simple c**p for what are truly complicated emotions.
I think it might lead to a desire for alcohol which leads to alcoholism, but probably not a desire for addiction directly
Studies have shown that people who have less illness and disease are healthier and live longer.
it's called sunk cost fallacy. It's a common thing. Sometimes it's best to just walk.
This one is out and out bull.shyte. So people deserve cancer? Or for parents to be killed in accidents? Or for local rivers to be polluted by international conglomerates?? Comments like this infuriate me
All written by the same person with a very high opinion of themselves. Yawn. 🙄
Claim to be facts, are actually "self help/motivationnal" b******t posts
These are def not facts- most of these are just silly opinions and some straight up make little sense at all
That's 30 minutes of my life wasted on a load of trite b******t.
Most of these are the sorts of things they used to print on the back of bus tickets when I was a kid
This looks like someone opened the big book of bumper stickers and started taking notes.
some good ones, some trite ones, and a few BS ones. I'll give it a 10% good, 80% trite, and 10% BS.
I guess they left out the one that says "help, I'm trapped in a fortune cookie factory"
My mother taught me all of these things so many decades ago, I can't ever remember not living by them.
