Going out to eat is a huge privilege nowadays. If you think groceries have gotten expensive, try ordering two entrees and two glasses of wine from your local Italian restaurant. The shock of seeing your bill will convince you that instant noodles and PB&J sandwiches are healthy enough to sustain you for the rest of the month.
So if you’re going to splurge on a nice meal or treat yourself by ordering takeout, that food better be delicious. Or you might find yourself having serious regrets. Bored Panda has scoured the internet and found some of the most insulting and disappointing meals people have ever been served by restaurants. I’ll warn you right now that this list might give you trust issues when it comes to ordering food, but these establishments deserve to be called out for trying to pass these abominations off as edible!

This Starbucks Wrap Was Not What I Was Expecting
Contains egg whites (if we can catch the chicken).
Load More Replies...I got a gluten free wrap from Subway and it was almost as disappointing as this.
I Don’t Even Have Words
I used to play football/soccer for a non league semi-pro team that was in a rural area. Some of the committee members wives prepared food for afterwards in the clubhouse. They were country folk and the cheese and onion rolls were legendry. Thick slab of cheese and an even thicker slab of onion. Fabulous!
My Friends Mom Ordered A Cobb Salad At Resort In Dominican Republic
typically features chopped lettuce topped with ingredients like chicken, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, tomato, avocado, and blue cheese, arranged in neat rows. The salad is then dressed with red wine vinaigrette or French dressing.
Load More Replies...Maybe that's their idea of an American Cobb salad?? As far as the rest of the world is concerned that's probably accurate
There’s nothing like the disappointment of being served a bad meal. Whether your soup comes cold, your pizza came with olives even though you explicitly asked for none, or your burger is burned to a crisp, it’s painful to have to suffer through a gross dish. But if you’re paying for it, it’s even more painful to waste the food!
Some of us are far too polite or anxious to complain about a bad meal, but shouldn’t we be happy with what we ordered? Well, if you want to have a game plan for the next time you’re served a plate of disappointment, Food & Wine has some tips. First, they recommend resisting the urge to get angry. You’re likely to receive much better service if you’re polite and respectful. Plus, nobody wants their server spitting in their dinner!
I’m An English Man Travelling India. Fancied Some British Food And Ordered Fish And Chips. Wow, What A Sight This Was
If it's not on the menu in whatever country you're in, don't order it! How simple is this, eh? You travel to some exotic land known for its history of exciting food and you order ... fish and chips? Go home, ya wanker.
The Outback Steakhouse Salad I Ordered vs. What I Got
I remember when going to a steakhouse used to mean something.
Or Australian, despite the names given the food. They didn't have pumpkin soup, I had to make it myself after I came back to the states and had a craving.
Load More Replies...tbf I've never seen a wedge salad look like the abomination in the top picture, either
Expectation vs. Reality

Load More Replies...Nice of them to borrow one of the s**t fillets from the Indian restaurant a few spots above this
If you’re tempted to channel your inner Karen and ask to see a manager when you’ve been served a bad meal, Food & Wine notes that this isn’t always the best choice. It’s likely that they’ll offer you the exact same solution that your server did, so you probably don’t need to escalate the issue to this point.
And if you are interested in speaking with the manager, first consider if there’s actually anything they can do for you. If your server has informed you that the kitchen is out of the dish you wanted or is missing a key ingredient, the manager can’t magically make it appear. And if your waiter offered to comp your dinner, that’s probably enough to satisfy you. Try to keep calm and remember that everyone makes mistakes. Yes, even people working in restaurants!
We Were On Holiday In Sheffield. As A Parting Gift My Wife Got This "Cheese And Onion Toastie" For £8. We Did Not Pay And Left
Gift? You pay for gift? People are way too polite, Swindlers laugh at their plight. With a audacious denial, away I will flight.
Yes, there are many sandwiches and dishes in many European countries involving raw onions. Freshly cut (!!!)), not diced out of a bag) they add a nice fresh and spicy note.
Load More Replies...Panera Is The Absolute Worst
Panera has been the worst for a long, long time. I vaguely remember a time when they were affordable and reasonably tasty (IIRC they made their soups in-house rather than getting them from the back of a huge truck), but we're going back easily 15 years...
Used to. I remember when they switched, the salt went through the roof. I haven't been in one in quite some time.
Load More Replies...Went to Panera once when they first opened. So much hype! Asked for a particular sandwich, leave off the carmalized onion, I'm allergic. Took them a half hour (no lie) to figure out how to do leave them off. Finally get my sandwich. We sit down, to eat inside. I take one bite, the spread on the sandwich is full of chopped onion. Will NEVER go back to Panera.
Why would you even let that get past the counter? That's not what you ordered.
We don't have Panera in our country - I guess we're not missing out!
Top photo looks great. They should be sued for misleading advertising.
I Ordered A Salad And Got A Plate Of Random Ingredients On A Wooden Board
If they d give you a knife and some olive oil, that could be a greek salad. Lazy sods
Looks like the person is at a cooking class and will be taught how to make greek salad, hence the cutting board.
This makes sense. A bit of olive oil & lemon juice, black pepper, & oregano, and it’s a perfect village salad.
Load More Replies...Eater has also shared some advice on how to politely complain when a restaurant messes up your order. First, it’s important to know when it’s worth it to say something and when it’s best to keep your mouth shut. For example, if you asked for mild curry, and the first bite of the dish burned your tastebuds off, don’t hesitate to tell your server. However, if you forgot to ask for your salad without tomatoes or didn’t realize that there would be some onions on top of your guacamole, it might be best to just pick them off and carry on with your meal.
Box Lunch From Sandwich Shop Comes With Picture Of A Cookie, Rather Than An Actual Cookie
Those meals don’t come with cookies and are advertised as a sandwich, chips, and a pickle. The other side of that cookie paper is a coupon for a free cookie, but OP didn’t bother to include that in the post.
Wow, thank you for adding this. How can OP be so misleading… (or stupid).
Load More Replies...Meal doesn't come with a cookie. It's advertised as sandwich, chips, and pickle. On the other side of that picture of the cookie, is a coupon for a free cookie. OP is either an idiot and didn't know that, or knowingly misled you.
Load More Replies...That's awful. It's like telling the customer, you get a cookie if you pay for a cookie.
How would you feel then, to find out that that particular order doesn't come with a cookie, and is advertised as "sandwich, chips, and pickle", and that cookie picture? The other side of it is a coupon for a free cookie... and the OP who posted this on reddit was torn asunder because they staged the photo to look far worse than it was.
Load More Replies...No it's actual advertising. That meal doesn't come with a cookie, and the piece of paper is actually a coupon.

It's missing actual (sliced) tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, basil, and balsamic glaze. WTF is there a cup of vinaigrette in it?
Airport Breakfast
First photo is screenshotted from their online menu and second pic is what I got. I paid extra for a side of avocado and they gave me a little scoop of an overly ripened one that tasted tangy.
It was probably because they doused it in lemon juice to hide the fact it was rotten.
Hey, my avocado is always doused in lemon juice! Can't eat it otherwise
Load More Replies...I love that they bothered to garnish that mess. "Nothing a little parsley leaf of top won't fix... There! Beautiful!"
OMG I ordered a side of avocado at a cafe last week and I got a WHOLE avocado freshly sliced up - franchises are the worst for quality!
Eater also suggests that diners remain on their best manners when sharing concerns about their dishes. Don’t be a jerk, and always remain calm. It’s not the end of the world if your steak was cooked the wrong way. Just politely explain the situation and ask for a new one.
If you have something in mind that will resolve the issue, be specific when requesting it. If it’s as easy as getting a new meal, ask for that. And if it’s too late, you might want to ask the restaurant to comp your dish. Or, if you ordered an appetizer that was incredibly disappointing, you might be able to swap it out for a different one. Have suggestions, but be reasonable.
I Ordered A Takeout Fish Sandwich. Got Home, Opened The Box, And Noticed Something Was Missing
They told me to come back and they would give me another one. No apology, no compensation for my inconvenience.
I will pull aside and check my order before leaving the lot. I never go all the way home before I check. I'm tired, it's been a long day, and I want my food. No, I don't hold up the drive-thru to check, I've been in that line too long.
Why do you think you need to be compensated? Someone made a mistake. That doesn't mean you hit the lotto.
Getting a new sandwich is literally the compensation lmao

The Number Of Fries I Got In My Meal
Happened at a KFC when i ordered a snack bucket with a chicken strip....3 chips in total. I picked it up realised it was very light, opened the lid and complained, biatch said it was only supposed to a snack not a full serve. The manager heard, looked over her shoulder, apologised profusely and made me a fresh pack. I left to the sounds of her being berated quite loudly.
I'm glad that your order was improved. However, it is never ok to tell off staff in front of customers.
Load More Replies...I think you can blame the delivery driver for this. They were clearly snacking on your food
What I Ordered From Panera vs. What I Got
I got a refund, but still felt cheated. I craved this meal all day and it took over an hour to get. Had a small scoop of rice. No meat and look at everything else. By the time I got it, they were closed for the day. I was infuriated to say the least. Highly doubt that I’ll order from Panera anytime soon.
Fun fact: their food orders single handedly caused the collapse of an entire food production plant. McEntire went under. Sold to Fresh express..we all got fired because Panera didn't like the Romaine lettuce we packed
Load More Replies...This is actually the one thing i like from panera. It never looks like that when i get it but it is often different ingreedients each time.
The Panera where I live is really good, food actually looks like in the menu. Didn't realize it was so awful elsewhere.
Isn't that a horribly massacred chicken breast sitting top left?
When expressing concerns about your food to restaurant staff, you also have to remember that they might not always be interested in hearing your feedback. It’s possible that the chef will double down and assure the customer that there’s nothing wrong with their food. And you know what, they might be right. If you’re really uncomfortable with your dish, no one will force you to eat it. But you might still have to pay and simply decide to never return in the future.
Ordered The Garden Avocado Toast From Panera, And Got This
*again*, I've been to Panera once and I can tell anyone DON'T DO IT, THEY SUUUCK
Well, that is avocado, and that is underdone toast, if you're feeling generous, and those are tomatoes, albeit raw, and if that whatever it is under the tomatoes is garlic aoili they weren't far off!
Ordered Soft Serve And It Was Hollow
It’s because when you swirl it, the the swirl will not work if you try to get the inside.
If you watch them (someone who knows how it's built) they will kind of squish the ice cream into the bottom of the cone and then start swirling it to the top

It’s also not a great practice to fail to speak up in the moment when you’ve been served a disappointing meal, and then write a scathing Yelp review after you’ve left. Give the restaurant an opportunity to right their wrong while you’re still sitting at your table. Negative reviews can really hurt a business, and it’s possible that you just caught them on a bad day. Don’t make the restaurant suffer forever because of one bad experience.
Ordered Some Pancakes With Syrup And Bacon, But I Got The Top Slices Of A Brioche Bun
I was going with hamburger buns, but brioche buns, wow, that's classy.

Load More Replies...I Ordered Thai Food Delivery And This Is What I Got
These are delicious crispy egg noodles that come with a meat/veg/sauce to add on top, literally one of my favorite dishes ever. Either there was a mixup at the restaurant or OP is being dishonest and not showing the rest of the meal.
Everyone loves to enjoy a delicious meal, and it’s natural to hold restaurants to a high standard. But the reality is that there are a lot of ways an order can go wrong. First, the customer must correctly explain what they want. Then, the server has to relay that information to the kitchen. The line cooks must pay attention to what’s written and properly plate the order, and then, the server has to deliver it to the correct customer before it gets cold. Let’s have some sympathy for the staff when dining out!
Caprese Salad I Purchased From A Pizza Place. I Should Have Checked The Review First
I don't get why it is so hard to get some smaller boxes and make an actual Caprese. It would "consume" the same amount of time pretty sure..
I used to cook in an Italian restaurant. The caprese was the easiest salad to throw together 😅 I don’t understand either

Dairy Queen Side Salad For $4
Dairy Queen you don’t go there for anything but the ice cream treats. You’ll be disappointed.
The BBQ fried chicken strips sandwich is pretty good....

I Ordered A Salad, They Sent Me 12 Slices Of Ham
I ordered a salad from Subway using this little robot delivery service my campus has. I get back to my room, and see that my "salad" is just a bowl of ham. The cold cut combo is supposed to have three types of meat anyway, why just the ham?
I'm mostly just baffled. I'm upset because it cost nearly $8 and they just gave me ham.
With 12 slices of ham, you can open your own deli, now that you see how it's done.

Ordered A 1/2 Cheese, 1/2 Pepperoni Pizza For My Kids. The App Defaulted To No Sauce And No Cheese
That one's on you for not checking whether or not the app got it right, and contacting the store the moment you realized the mistake.
I never order any food except in person or over the phone, where you can talk to a real, live person.
Ordered Domino’s Mac & Cheese
I will admit ordering pasta from a pizza place was mistake #1. But how did they forget one of the only two ingredients?
Yep, I've had times where I was working 3 jobs and spending an hour cooking one meal would be an hour less sleep - and damn, I needed sleep.

The original dish was described as yellow tomato sauce, confit cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil, dried chillie flakes and garlic confit. I got 3 almost raw yellow cherry tomatoes and some garlic paste at the f***ing bottom. Violife coconut feta is insane.
There's no noodles there. Pasta maybe, but not noodles

They makin eggs in brick form now? You think you seen it all then you come accross this pic. I lowkey thought it was pineapple, tho im not sure why. Definately did not get egg bacon cheese
You can definitely make brick eggs, and there are some darn good reasons to do so (the obvious example is sushi tamago, where you get a thick block of egg to top the rice instead of the usual rolled tamago presentation).

First And Last Time Trying Taco Bell’s Garbage Nuggets
These were introduced in December of 2024 - and have since been removed from the menu.
Hotdog Meal While On Holiday
It’s not at all disturbing that the hot dog has turned green. Blek!
$12 Crispy Scallops
It could have been me. I wouldn't hesitate to order the pictured food.
Taco Bell Nuggets
I knew better. But, I always try new things, and I’m a sucker for limited & special items.
The box was larger than I expected so I had high hopes. But it was light and upon opening, I was greeted with chicken marbles. They wouldn’t qualify for boneless wings let alone nuggets. These are the extras that get thrown in your chicken strip meal at other places. They were crispy, but that doesn’t make me any less of an idiot for ordering them.
What I Ordered vs. What I Got
I worked at papa johns for 6 years. The wings are ok. Oven baked and decnet enough. Tbose are chicken tenders. Not wings. And those are gross.
Reminds me of a time I went to Popeyes chicken and ordered a two-piece meal with regular bone-in chicken. I got a box full of over-cooked chicken strips. When I pointed out the error, the server said "Yeah, well, we're out of regular chicken right now so we're just giving everybody strips instead"
Which they should have told you when you ordered, not after you got your food
Load More Replies...This just happened to me the other day from a local Domino's. I ordered regular buffalo wings for delivery and got boneless tenders, cheesed up with some hot sauce. I called and they made it right by delivering the correct wings about 20 minutes later.

Ordered Mozzarella Sticks At Ruby Tuesday And Half Were Hollow
That's what happens when the mozz sticks aren't frozen first before cooking.
Cheese sticks have to remain frozen up until the point you drop them in the fryer. If they the or soften beforehand, then the cheese escaped l escapes before the breading can crisp.
I wish I could edit the original post to fix my typos. Tl;dr frozen before fry is good; thaw before fry is bad

Load More Replies...I’m pretty surprised by the Panera posts. We have two near us, and have never received anything remotely bad. Worst I ever received was like two measly avocado slices on a sandwich that I added on, but I still had a full, well-made sandwich.
They used to all be good, but now it's definitely a matter of which one you go to. I have one closest to me that absolutely could have made every single picture on this list, and has been for years. But if I go to the one that's about 45 minutes away I've never been disappointed except for the time they had a new person that was pissy when they gave me the wrong bread for the extra bread I order for my soup and refused to switch it til the other person jumped in and asked her what the hell she was doing.

Ordered Vegetable Fajitas At A "Mexican" Place. Didn’t Expect This
Beans my friend, beans for Mexican cuisine not mushrooms.
Load More Replies...So... OP went to a taco/burrito stand, which really didn't have a veggie only option on the menu (don't hate on the taco guy, vegans aren't exactly common in Mexico), and ordered a burrito, but with no meat. OP got what the guy thought OP wanted. Pro tip: If there's no vegan or vegetarian option on a menu, just go someplace else.
It had to be on the menu. Mexican places don’t usually have broccoli.
Load More Replies...I won't even bother asking why anyone would order "vegetable fajitas", likely a special order not on the menu and the cook winged it, bloody vegan gringo.
Was it a Mexican place owned by White People? I am Chicana live in the Barrio of Aurora CO, we have real Mexican food. Also despite what the Orange Putrescence says, we are not overrun by Venezuelan gangs.
Ordered From Pizza Hut And I Ended Up With More Crust Than Pizza
App mistake. When ordering online, always check to make sure you haven't inadvertantly checked the wrong box, or caused the app to default to some weird setting by your changes. IF you do find you've done that, and the order has already been sent out, call the location that's completing the order and explain the mistake to them.

Chicken And Waffles At My Local Bowling Alley
I grew up eating this (if you add frozen peas and carrots) and having it called "chicken and waffles". I didn't realize until I was well into my thirties this doesn't look anything like what the rest of the world thinks of as chicken and waffles. It took me another two decades to discover this is actually called "Amish Chicken and Waffles" (and that like most of my parents' other off the wall recipes, it comes from the PA Dutch upbringing that... neither of my parents ever had) Have yourself a merry little christmas: https://amish-heritage.org/pa-dutch-chicken-and-waffles-amish-recipe/

If this is in the US, then unless a location has a warning sign on both the menus, and at the entrance to the restaurant that states "consumption of under cooked meat and eggs is done at the sole risk of the person consuming it" then you will not EVER find a place that's just going to cook meats to any temperature under well done. Because if they do it, and a health department inspector discovers that, and those previously mentioned warnings aren't in place, then that restaurant will LOSE ITS LICENSE! They will also face STIFF fines. If you enter a restaurant, and you don't see those kinds of warnings about under cooked meat or eggs in place, then don't be shocked or angry when your food doesn't come cooked to the doneness you wanted.
If that is the case, then they should say we can't prepare it that way at this location. Or even better, do not ask how they want it cooked?

A "Cheeseburger" Served In My Closest Dining Hall Tonight
My dining hall does that too sometimes, unfortunately, they probably ran out of buns
What do you expect from college dining rooms? Mine made cottage pie with the Mexican seasoned beef leftover from the previous evening’s tacos.
What I Ordered vs. What I Got

When Chefs Hate Their Vegan Clients
A few weeks ago I went to the renowned Boschendal Wine Farm, outside Stellenbosch, and ordered their vegan aubergine pizza. One would think that they would take pride in what they do and make aubergine the star of the dish. What I got was so dissapointing, and made me feel that they really hate their vegan customers. My husband, who is not vegan got a beautiful presented plate of food. I wrote them a polite letter about customer experience, etc. but to date got no response, hence I now name them for their bad pizza and arrogance. How hard can it really be to have made this a great pizza without too much effort? For my part it wasn't even necessary to replace mozzarella with bad vegan cheese. How about a great Napolitana sauce, grilled aubergine, a few Kalamata olives, some red onions, rocket or basil pesto perhaps? I am also a professional chef, but I would never treat my vegan or vegetarian customers with such disdain. I won't recommend them, nor spend my hard earned cash there ever again.
SA cuisine has gone down the toilet in the past decade. So sad, any restaurant experience used to be amazing.
That’s what u get for being a bloody obnoxious stuck up vegan lmao
Ordered "Caprese" Sandwich At An Italian Restaurant At A 5 Star Resort In Mexico. Now, I'm No Italian, But That Doesn't Look Like Caprese Sandwich To Me
First thing would be that Caprese is a freaking salad and not a sandwich. And second it looks like a nice caprese and if u didn't plan to eat it on the go it would be fine.. für sure u got some more bread...
This is probably the best "why the name of God's Green Earth are you ordering this junk instead of making it yourself?" posts I've ever seen.
Not only that, but people still paying for it when they can push for a refund on it. If you keep paying for garbage, the establishment will keep serving garbage. Forcing them losses by having to remake food/not earn anything from it will either cause the management/owners to fix things or the place closes.

As someone currently binge watching "hell's kitchen" I can picture Chef Ramsey yelling "look at this s**t!"

Yesterday, I went to get a blended coffee with whipped cream. The guy made the blend but handed me a drink with no whip. I pointed out the error and he said, "we're out of whipped cream". The other person working there said no, they weren't out, he just needed to make a new batch. The barista just sighed and said, "it's too complicated". The other person made the fresh whip in less than a minute and finished my drink. Some people just don't care about doing a good job anymore.
I wonder what part of the country most of these are from. The Paneras in my area are great! And why are people finding this acceptable.
And this children is why you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet. Most of them were clearly staged, and some of them were deliberately deceptive - the top voted picture right now is a meal that doesn't come with a cookie, but does come with a coupon that looks like a cookie on one side... the dude who posted that even got called out on reddit for it, but it's not like BP is the slightest bit bothered by lies.
I am bothered as f**k by the stupid lunch box that comes with a coupon for a cookie instead of just giving me the damned cookie. I’ve already waited in line. I’ve already gotten my food. I don’t want to go back up and wait in line again for a cookie they knew they were going to give me in the first place. What an annoying rip off.

That's good for you but most of us have busy lifestyles and don't always have time or energy to cook every single day at home.
