In fact, the community of 353k members is sharing the most cringeworthy and clueless posts spotted surfing on social media. That includes but isn’t limited to blunt arguments, embarrassing comments, hilariously inaccurate shares, you name it.

Meanwhile, this new study published in Nature that involves an experiment conducted by a group of researchers from MIT, the University of Regina in Canada, University of Exeter Business School in the United Kingdom and Center for Research and Teaching in Economics in Mexico, showed some interesting findings about the way people perceive what’s inaccurate online.
“It seems that the social media context may distract people from accuracy,” study coauthor Gordon Pennycook, an assistant professor of behavioral science at the University of Regina, told The Journalist’s Resource. According to him, although people are often capable of distinguishing between true and false news content, they fail to even consider whether content is accurate before they share it on social media.

except the myth that civil war was about states rights was developed during the myth of the lost cause era. Ironically until right before the Civil War the south was trying to use the federal govt to force slavery in Territories that didn't want it (like Kansas) and force Northern States to enforce Southern Slave laws. Civil War was when the anti-slavery politicians won, the south panicked and rebelled, and later on the myth of states rights came around. States Rights originally was used by the Abolitionist movement as a way to avoid enforcing the fugitive slave laws.

Five night in hospital. Two surgeries with all the trimmings. 20 doses of intravenous antibiotics and about a dozen of various other tablets each day. Bed and board included, including an extreme contamination regime for the first three days since I was a near contact to a confirmed Covid case (who staid in isolation at home with a "cold" since she's fully vaccainated). Total cost: NOK 0,00, which equals USD 0,00. I didn't need an ambulance, but that too would have been included in this grand total.

'Nickel and dime people' ?? I assume they mean charge people small sums for small items?? I'd like to point out, however, that the "Freedom Convoys" started in *Canada*, the UK voted for Brexit, and Russia is trying to rewrite history as a pretext for grabbing Ukraine. Stupid isn't restricted to any nation. It's a failing of the species, like greed, and cruelty, and a desire to feel smugly superior to others by encouraging stereotypes. Dehumanizing Americans is not any better than dehumanizing .... anyone else. And that is, ultimately, the goal of such things. To make it easy to not care about the targeted group. I think Americans are super interested in ancestry because here we can only be Native Americans or non-native mutts. I'm a caucasian mutt. I wish I felt like part of a group. To be honest, a lot of us in Europe are mutts also. Britain has been invaded over and over and whatever makes us British today is a mix of a whole range of peoples. The US - just more recent that's all. Ancestry IS interesting and I don't think anyone minds someone saying their ancestry is Irish/French/Spanish or whatever. Just don't claim to BE Irish/French/Spanish etc. Why is American not a thing though? That I don't get. Culture is the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society. Americans have that. Might be incredibly varied but that's a positive.

Please try to be respectful, these images were cherry picked to be on this thread and although they do showcase the ignorance that some Americans have, they do not represent the entire country and should not be treated as such. I get bored of the same types of articles being rehashed on here too, but if people get pissed off and feel they are American bashing, stop commenting to say that! Every time you comment saying BP should stop with these lists.or that they are offensive, you are ensuring more will get published. If you don't like them, don't click and don't comment. Any interaction, positive or negative, is a win for BP, and will ensure half a dozen similar pages appear

As an American kid I was fortunate enough to have traveled and spend my summers in Egypt to visit relatives there. By doing this I was able to immerse myself in a different culture and would often have lengthy layovers in other countries as well (mainly in Europe.) I haven’t traveled that far in almost 20 years and this summer, I’m taking my 12 year old daughter there for the first time with a layover long enough to explore a little bit of Zürich. After having the impression that so much of the rest of the world may default to us being “dumb Americans” (this post is a prime example,) … I am a little nervous about this upcoming trip! On a different note, it’s sad that so many Americans don’t have the opportunity to travel outside of the country… so many parts of our system are built to keep us uneducated, poor (wages, healthcare costs), and with very little time off work for travel.

Generally speaking most people don't really have a low opinion of Americans. A low opinion of the ones that posted all the crap above? Absolutely. They are just representative of stupid people though, and they're all over the poor planet! I've met plenty of Americans - in the US, my own country and abroad and they were all lovely. Here's my question though, do you not have yokels in Europe? I mean, I know you do, but do you just keep them away from computers? I've met fascists and flat earth-ers on both sides of the Atlantic... I've met people in multiple Pacific countries that honestly believe that people from their country can't "breed" with white or black skinned people because of speciation, which is why their governments (China and Japan) make it so hard to become citizens. These things are obviously ridiculous, but I only hear these things when I'm actually in back woods places in these countries. Maybe I just don't spend enough time in German/French/Chinese/Japanese language forums. But if you have some kind of internet bear spray for people with crazy ideas, could you quit holding out on us?

Unless you’re one of the handful of people posted here, you have nothing to apologize for. You and I both know this isn’t America. It’s funny that the only xenophobia I’ve ever experienced in the US has all been from foreigners, especially Europeans (I worked for years at the largest Dutch electronics co where the majority of staff were expats from all over Europe). It’s like their pastime or something, which is sad, and, to be honest, makes me feel just a little bit better than them. I mean if someone wants to form an opinion of 330,000,000 people based on a handful of trash people, that’s their problem. But, it really just screams ignorance.

Nothing is "free" Tom. Nothing. If you want to get pedantic, everything that is called "free" has a hidden cost. Therefore the word technically shouldn't exist or ever be used. But it is used, because people KNOW that it is a relative term. They know that "free healthcare" MEANS "tax funded". I feel like in history class, when our country did something bad we do learn about what we did. Not only the good stories about our country. Im in the Netherlands. Back when ships became a thing we did a lot good for our country but at cost of many many lives. I feel like America would focus on the first part and would leave out the last part.

I don't think that American people are any more stupid than any other nationality. The problem is that they are victims of 2 centuries of indoctrination, propaganda, isolation and religious fundamentalism. They have been indoctrinated since childhood to believe that America is the world's greatest country and that as all other countries are inferior, there is no point in learning about them and that only American interests matter. It is true that in many parts of America things are improving, but in others they seem to be regressing.

Sad to say, I'm still learning history about what has happened here (American), even just from 50 years ago. Sometimes it feels as though there is a lock on information; if you don't know what you're looking for you won't find it. It's crazy and scary. Not to mention the huge push of propaganda for food, media, materialism, etc. that seriously ostracizes a person who doesn't 'buy' into it. Try telling people you don't want *name brand* because of slavery and you can be ostracized and bullied- as an adult. Look at the Natives here, they were forced into schools that demonized their natural culture and tried to "cleanse" them of barbarism. That isn't taught in school, it's not publicized. How do we know about something like that unless we dig? I found that by accident. I'm rambling, but suffice to say it's a lot more complicated than "stupid". There is deliberate misinformation and distraction going on, and it's not just here in America.

But I do use "military" time, I have an electric kettle AND a kettle for my stove, I speak 3 languages, I understand that America is NOT the best country in the world... I'm in no way against 24 hrs instead of 12, just live in a place where 12 is used. Am curious how you answer the question "what time is it?" if it's 16:00. it feels silly and military to say "sixteen hundred hours" also feels somehow wrong to say "sixteen o'clock". Do you just say "sixteen"?

Yes, sometimes, we will officially say its “sixteen null null”. But mainly we just say its four 😁 But it is not about what you (we) use, is about that country which do not use 12 still know without any problem how 12 (AM-PM) works. The whole 12-24 thing is so simple. It is not rocket sience, its just a very, very simple couting, because day have 24 hours. Honestly i dont know how somebody can fail in such a simple thing ☺️

I'd like to point out, however, that the "Freedom Convoys" started in *Canada*, the UK voted for Brexit, and Russia is trying to rewrite history as a pretext for grabbing Ukraine. Stupid isn't restricted to any nation. It's a failing of the species, like greed, and cruelty, and a desire to feel smugly superior to others by encouraging stereotypes. Dehumanizing Americans is not any better than dehumanizing .... anyone else. And that is, ultimately, the goal of such things. To make it easy to not care about the targeted group. I think Americans are super interested in ancestry because here we can only be Native Americans or non-native mutts. I'm a caucasian mutt. I wish I felt like part of a group. To be honest, a lot of us in Europe are mutts also. Britain has been invaded over and over and whatever makes us British today is a mix of a whole range of peoples. The US - just more recent that's all. Ancestry IS interesting and I don't think anyone minds someone saying their ancestry is Irish/French/Spanish or whatever. Just don't claim to BE Irish/French/Spanish etc. Why is American not a thing though? That I don't get. Culture is the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society. Americans have that. Might be incredibly varied but that's a positive.

Around #31 I was starting to suspect a huge anti-American propaganda bot army is posting stuff like this all over the internet. There has to be, right? Please tell me I'm right. Love from the Netherlands (--> a country with running water, a health care system and bank passes we evidently have the Americans to thank for 🥴)

I feel like in history class, when our country did something bad we do learn about what we did. Not only the good stories about our country. Im in the Netherlands. Back when ships became a thing we did a lot good for our country but at cost of many many lives. I feel like America would focus on the first part and would leave out the last part.

ignorant people exist in every country, I guess the saddest part of this list is that many of these thoughts or beliefs are shared even by people who actually went to school or had some sort of education, so it's more like a cultural thing, but I want to believe most of these clowns are just a the loud minority, and there's actually smarter people than that in the US

I don't think that American people are any more stupid than any other nationality. The problem is that they are victims of 2 centuries of indoctrination, propaganda, isolation and religious fundamentalism. They have been indoctrinated since childhood to believe that America is the world's greatest country and that as all other countries are inferior, there is no point in learning about them and that only American interests matter. It is true that in many parts of America things are improving, but in others they seem to be regressing.

Sad to say, I'm still learning history about what has happened here (American), even just from 50 years ago. Sometimes it feels as though there is a lock on information; if you don't know what you're looking for you won't find it. It's crazy and scary. Not to mention the huge push of propaganda for food, media, materialism, etc. that seriously ostracizes a person who doesn't 'buy' into it. Try telling people you don't want *name brand* because of slavery and you can be ostracized and bullied- as an adult. Look at the Natives here, they were forced into schools that demonized their natural culture and tried to "cleanse" them of barbarism. That isn't taught in school, it's not publicized. How do we know about something like that unless we dig? I found that by accident. I'm rambling, but suffice to say it's a lot more complicated than "stupid". There is deliberate misinformation and distraction going on, and it's not just here in America.

I think this isn't a fair reflection of what the average American is like, nor did it pretend to. But these airheads are really loud and obnoxious people. They wear their ignorance like a badge of honour. And that contributes greatly to the bias.

Yeah. All of these ppl make me feel so ashamed to be an American. But I do use "military" time, I have an electric kettle AND a kettle for my stove, I speak 3 languages, I understand that America is NOT the best country in the world... (one of the worst) and I know Europe has running fucken water and that France has freedom... lol. So please don't hate me. I'm one of the okay ones.

I'm in no way against 24 hrs instead of 12, just live in a place where 12 is used. Am curious how you answer the question "what time is it?" if it's 16:00. it feels silly and military to say "sixteen hundred hours" also feels somehow wrong to say "sixteen o'clock". Do you just say "sixteen"?

Yes, sometimes, we will officially say its “sixteen null null”. But mainly we just say its four 😁 But it is not about what you (we) use, is about that country which do not use 12 still know without any problem how 12 (AM-PM) works. The whole 12-24 thing is so simple. It is not rocket sience, its just a very, very simple couting, because day have 24 hours. Honestly i dont know how somebody can fail in such a simple thing ☺️
