My favorite section of the 'Guinness World Records' book was always the biggest things. I marveled at the Blue Whale, the skyscrapers vying for the world's tallest and trucks with wheels the size of a house.
The most important part, the thing that really makes you say 'wow' is the scale. You can't really appreciate the sheer size of something unless something familiar is placed alongside it for comparison. We here at Bored Panda have compiled a list of things that are even bigger than you probably thought. From wombats to wolves, these 'big' things are actually freaking huge! Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

The Largest Tree In The World
Actually not the tallest anymore. All of the tallest trees in the world are indeed giant sequoias, but Hyperion outranks the General Sherman by far (379.7 ft for Hyperion, compared to 275 ft for General Sherman). Helios was discovered in 2006. I don't believe it's location has been revealed to the public.
Nope, it's the largest by volume - there are some taller and some wider (and some older)
Load More Replies...As a California native who has seen many trees like this and even lived next door to two, this doesn't seem like such a big deal. That is what familiarity will do.
Last year the "Pioneer Cabin Tree" in California fell from a storm. It had a tunnel that had been driven through with cars and buggies over the years. It was believed to be about 1000 years old. What a shame.
Load More Replies...That's actually not the largest tree. The largest tree on Earth is located on the same forest as the tree on this picture (Redwood Forest in California) and it's name is Hyperion
My backyard!! Sequoia national park is lovely, definitely worth the drive
IT WAS SO TALL, I HAD TO LIE DOWN TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE TOP OF IT.
I worked in Sequoia National Park for three summers, about 60 years ago.. and work location was about three miles from the General Sherman Tree... The First Limb on the tree was over six feet in diameter... There are several slightly different Sequoia Trees... The Sequoia Giantia (Spelling ??) is the Large one like the General Sherman and General Grant trees... The Sequoia Sempervirins (Spelling ??) are the Coast Redwoods, and are Taller than the Giants in Sequoia National Park and Grants Grove... I understand there are even more variants, but the General Sherman was always considered the largest.... The Tree in Yosemite (Whawona sp ?) was one with a tunnel bored through it, was closed to the public many years ago... I don't remember if it fell, or ??? I do remember a Ranger telling us a tourist stuck a trailer in it, and was trying to cut away the tree to get it our... He was made to stop cutting the tree, and cut the trailer instead.
I've been there and seen it with my own eyes, this tree is ginormous!
I live there. It is located in Northern California 6 hours north of San Francisco and their is another set of giant trees one is called The Redwood trees and the Giant Sequoias
The tallest tree that I have ever seen was about two and a half times my height. This brings it into perspective!
LaurieAnneSmith, General Sherman is in Sequoia National Park, California - you're right, that info should have been included. Heck, the sign with the tree's name was even partly cut off in the photo - how would someone who didn't already know about it look it up?
Load More Replies...don't forget, Trump/GOP want to allow LOGGING in the Redwood forests....anything to enrich their friends (corporations etc).
Surprised nobody has chopped it down yet... Trump will get on this soon I am sure.

Bear Claws Next To Human Hand
I was just reading in a book last night about medicine, and when a scientist from the mid 1800's couldn't get a human foot to dissect, he got a bear's foot and did it instead, since they are so similar. It was someone famous, but now I cannot recall who it was.

@FaqirAfaq What, your ego? Or the level of magnification on that telescope?
These are all really cool, some I knew, some really stopped me in my tracks. Awesome!
Am I the only one who looked at the title and immediately giggled? Sounds so wrong.
Thought provoking. We think of ourselves as the biggest and best - and indeed some of the man-made items are huge, but nature does well too. There seems to be a template for mammals and each species is tweaked slightly to make it individual.
Actually a pretty interesting post! Thanks :) now we need small stuff!!
While the idea first appeared on Buzzfeed, it looks like they just took the photos from a subreddit without doing further research. Bored Panda has done extensive research and has collected more pictures. By the way, Buzzfeed copies Bored Panda's posts all the time (never crediting us, even after we contact them), so it works both ways. The difference is we invest more time and try to do posts better
