This Hairdresser Gives Free Makeovers To Homeless People, And Here’s The Result (30 Pics)

Contrary to what common sense would make us assume, there are several factors that can cause someone to become homeless. Humans are complex and unique from one another. Every person approaches and is impacted by their personal issues differently, and some of these issues can cause someone to lose their home.
Losses, addiction, mental illness, emotional and financial instability, and family abandonment are a few of the numerous circumstances that can lead to homelessness.
Recently a hairdresser in Brazil started an incredible project. At least 3 times a week, he goes out to the streets in search of people he could possibly help. He provides assistance to those people by cutting their hair and beard, doing their makeup, and even giving them clothes for free in hopes of making them feel better.

Leandro Matias is a 37-year-old hairdresser from Votorantim, Brazil, who, as we mentioned before helps out homeless people around his city. With that being said, Bored Panda reached out to Leandro with some questions! First, we wanted to know how Matias came up with the whole idea of helping these people in the first place.
“I've always had this desire to help people, in fact, I've always helped as much as I could but for over 5 years now I've stuck with it...this is my mission!”
According to Leandro, he approaches quite a few people, however, not many of them want to accept his help, and the opportunity to change their lifestyles. “Yes, haha, I have indeed received many no’s, they even attacked me for wanting to help!"
Leandro not only cuts the hair of said people, but he also helps them in many other ways too, “I do the transformation not only by giving a haircut but I also let these people have a bath, food, and some clothes…depending on the person, we seek hospitalization or reconciliation with the family. I also help many families with groceries, clothes, and medicine.”
Given what the hairdresser revealed so far, we were also wondering how Matias usually finds these people, and here's what he shared with us, “By walking on the streets. If I see someone in dire need of help I stop right away...I do this 3 times a week because of my financial limitation...but my heart's desire is to do 1 a day! As I always say: minus one suffering.”
Is he also giving botox? Because I've noticed over and over again that these guys are suddenly missing their "11's," and no amount of makeup will take those away., But Botox, or perhaps photoshopping can! So which is it, Leandro?
Nowadays, it is very difficult to trust someone, especially strangers, and Leandro agreed with this statement too, however, he always chooses to believe that people he helps genuinely seek out his help. “Yes, that's true, I confess that I get a little apprehensive... but everything I do is God's permission…he protects me…because it's not easy. Sometimes it’s hard when I’m taking these people home, they have a very strong smell so I get sick sometimes. I know many others are disgusted with them but I see them as spectacular people.”
Again, the extensions look nice now, but in a couple of weeks, this will just look worse than it did before. It's great work, but it's too bad that she couldn't do something with her natural hair.
I think this guy looked better with the longer hair on the sides and top. But much nicer on the beard and mustache.
Some people that Matias has helped even returned to their homes and families. We were wondering how the hairdresser feels making such a difference in someone's life.
“I feel very good, you have no idea of the emotion that goes through my heart, I can't really explain it… As you know, I take a lot of people off the street usually, but there's a resident I took off the street who is now the boss of a company!”
We noticed that some of the people not only get new haircuts but also clothes too, therefore, we asked Matias how that came to be. “I buy most of it, but donations always come in too, but as most of the people I help tend to be very thin, then clothes don't fit, so I have to see what other things I can help with.”
Lastly, we asked Leandro to share what his dream in regard to those people is.
“My only wish is that they find the way to a dignified and happy life, it's not what I dream of for them, I genuinely just wish them happiness and long life so they never go through all of that again…may God help me to help them always.”
Why mess with men's eyebrows? He looked more attractive in the before picture.
Okay, he cut her hair and made it longer, and turned her almost white. How? Love to see an in-process video and see if this is true.
I really REALLY wish he'd stop doing this hair-style to these guys. They really deserve better.

Wow! You know what would have been really fun? To have gotten all of these people together at one time, in one big gathering, all together, for a group photo. A before and an after group photo. That would have been amazing!

Yes, but does this person only know how to do ONE style of hair? I hate that kind of look, where it looks like you just stuck your finger in a light socket.

There is something odd going on with his chin. It looks wider in the before picture.
Another case where they went back in time.... wow! He looks like a high school student!
Makeup on some of them looks like a mockery. Too white foundation, overdrawn lips. Should have stopped at hairdos and shaving.
Notice how the before photos are shot with side light to accentuate wrinkles, and the after photos are shot with front light to minimize wrinkles.
I want to know what assistance was provided other than a hair appointment and some hideous makeup. Did they just toss them back out on the streets?
To all of you who say the person is lightening them up too much. A good bath after a year or more will do that. To all of you who complain about too much makeup or photoshop. What's wrong with showing those in need who they could be? Also a question to all you nitpicking, what have you done lately for the homeless near you? To the person that made this possible, well done!!

So easy to criticize when someone is actually trying to take the time to lift up the less fortunate. What have you done to bless someone lately?
I'm a volunteer and I take care of my sick mother. Before that I was a social worker working with homeless and later on kids who were removed from their homes. Is there enough of a 'blessing' so I can say that the make-up on them looked really bad and giving homeless people hair dye when they don't have the money to keep up with it, is selfish.

I see a bunch of haters completely missing the point here. I see a person trying to help an often forgotten population of people attempt to reclaim their lives. We all know what a fresh haircut does for our confidence and comfort really. Some of these folks may have needed this little push to make something happen for themselves. But no please carry on critiquing the awesome persons work and judging make up, photoshop, lines or no lines, etc. Bet that gets you nothing but good karma 🙄
I've worked with the homeless, offering them a shower and a haircut would have been enough to make them happy. Putting makeup on guys, plucking their eyebrows, using hair dye and extensions....it's stupid, it'll make them look bad because they don't have the means to keep up with it. We always offered showers and free clothes and that made them happy.

The accessories (bag, etc) and clothing are they offered? And then these people go back to the streets? It seems very unwholesome, these people are not respected but "disguised" to make views.

I do not understand the same color panstick foundation on everyone regardless of skin tone??? I'm convinced there is se photo editing going on here. Some of them already looked fine they just needed a bath and fresh clothes.
They seemed to have a problem with darker-skinned people in these photos. Some reminded me a lot of when Michael Jackson went from a handsome Black man to the monstrosity he ended up being. Leave their beautiful skin tones alone!!
It all comes from a good intention but it is possible to acknowledge this while also recognising the fact that whitewashing dark skinned individuals to make them "more presentable" entails a fair amount of toxicity. (pun intended)
Maybe because they enjoy wearing makeup and feeling beautiful?

All the men seemed to look better, but what a travesty pulled on the women! They'd have been far better off without those hideous makeup jobs; makeup doesn't automatically equate with beauty, and hits certainly proves it!
Some of them are over photoshopped but shame on you all for taking a nice thing someone was trying to do for someone else less fortunate and pick them all apart! He was trying be kind and make people feel better about themselves! Maybe this new look even helped some score a job! They all looked wonderful

A former barber told horror stories about having to refuse to cut the hair of some folks - generally shut in types, but c'mon hop in the shower for sal's sake. (his name was Sal, not pete or chris)
Fun fact: when someone decides to give a population who are constantly ignored, abused, judged and treated less than we should all shut our privileged mouths and keep our opinions to ourselves. Guess what? THE MAKEOVER WASN'T FOR YOU IT WAS FOR THOSE WHO NEEDED SOMEONE TO GIVE THEM A SHRED OF CONFIDENCE AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
"we should all shut our privileged mouths and keep our opinions to ourselves". Indeed. Have you ever worked with homeless populations? One of the hardest thing to do is to properly acknowledge the individual and their situation instead of projecting what one considers "suitable" and "necessary" onto them & ditch the savior syndrome. Here for example it's realizing that many charities only cater for the needs of men and offer that sanitary products to the female population (and then think about the reality of living in the street and NOT offer fancy diva cups, for example, because they cannot be maintained in a sanitary manner) It can mean putting together & offering small grooming kits w, wipes, bandd aids, balm, travel sized items etc, because they are carrying their stuff around most of the time. Like I wrote earlier the intention is commendable but giving extensions that cannot be maintained in anyway and will end up matted, dirty (and possibly harbor lice) is a very futile idea.

They must ALL be shot with a filter app. Some have different eye-colors. The concealer/pancake/whatever is too even for it to be real.
I dunno. I've never been homeless but if I were I don't think having my face painted and my hair done would be high on my priority list.
I regularly feed them warm meals that I make from scratch in my kitchen. I also bring them blankets, coats, and sweaters. Any other questions?
