This Online Group Shares Random Timeline Comparisons That Might Mess With Your Perception Of Time
They say to put things into perspective in order to see the full picture. This corner of Reddit titled “BarbaraWalters4Scale” is doing precisely that – taking two things and comparing them in a timeline.
Some of the results from timeline comparisons range from surprising to straight-up unbelievable, and it makes you wonder how relevant time is.
The subreddit gives an example of that: “For reference: She was born in 1929. Barbara Walters is 5'5" or 1.65m.” and adds that “we don't want actual scale comparisons though, just timeline comparisons!”
I leave the stage to the community of 50.5k members, so scroll down below to see the most interesting examples they shared!

To find out more about this miscellaneous corner of Reddit known as BarbaraWalters4Scale, Bored Panda spoke with one of its moderators, ImAwomanAMA, who happily shared some insights.
The community which is now home to 50.5k members was created back in January, 2019. The moderator said that it all started when one particular meme was posted. “It showed that Martin Luther King, Anne Frank, and Barbara Walters were all born the same year, 1929.”
ImAwomanAMA recounted: “The timeline comparisons were being discussed and it was mentioned how interesting some of these concepts were, seeing as how we often see things as being in different eras (such as Martin Luther King and Anne Frank being the same age as Barbara Walters). Thus, a sub was born.”

It Took Only 66 Years Between Inventing The Airplane And Landing On The Moon
Because BarbaraWalters4Scale was born from a popular thread, there were many people who joined quickly, the mod explained. “There were many posts that have evolved more from ‘these things existed at the same time’ and now there are more of the time distance between events compared to today or other events in history,” they continued, referring to the transformation the community embraced.

Humans And The Tyrannosaurs Rex Are Closer On The World’s Timeline Than The Tyrannosaurs Rex And The Stegosaurus
And that's why humanity should be aware that it's not even a wink in history!
According to ImAwomanAMA, there are so many things that can fit into the concept of timeline comparisons and it allows for many intriguing posts. “For example, did you know that Abraham Lincoln never used a doorknob? The doorknob that we know didn't exist until after his death. Now you find yourself wondering, ‘what did they use to open doors and keep them shut?’"

Mel Brooks, Born In 1926 And Still Working Today, Has Been Alive For The Entire History Of Sound Feature Films
Part of the community’s appeal has to do with the fact that time passing between events seems to be very popular or at least greatly discussed. “If you ever want to feel old, those are the way to go. There are several posts that discuss the setting in movies and what the differences would be if they were set in today's world (like which song would have been played, etc.),” the moderator explained.
If Back To The Future Took Place In 2020, Marty Would Travel Back To The Year 1990. And The Song He'd Play At The Enchantment Under The Sea Dance Would Probably Be "Smells Like Teen Spirit" By Nirvana

That's Pretty Interesting

When asked about their favorite examples of timeline comparisons that have been shared on the subreddit, the moderator said that it must be the original, “the one that inspired us will be my favorite. Barbara Walters, Anne Frank, and Martin Luther King.”
“However, the others that I like are the ones where the historical figures could have seen 'this' or used 'that' because you often just don't think about how many inventions were actually brought about way sooner than we would think,” ImAwomanAMA added.
The moderator concluded by saying that “I thoroughly enjoy the community and wish I had more time to dedicate to it!”

Leonardo Da Vinci Was 40 Years Old When Columbus Found America
He did find it, he was just not the first one to find it.
Load More Replies...You misspelled "accidentally stumbled upon and subsequently murdered millions of people"
There were already millions of people living on the North American continent in 1492. Also, Columbus actually landed in the Bahamas, and there were already about 40,000 people living there. Columbus didn’t discover anything.
Ehhhhh actually Amerigo Vespucci did hence why it's called America. Columbus never actually hit the main land he landed in the Bahamas. Amerigo knew of Columbus and his exploration to the new world and was convinced there was more. Amerigo got an expedition together and found the coast of the actual main land and mapped the majority of the south and north coast over two journeys.
Cabot did it before Vespucci. There's a theory America was named after Richard Amerike, Cabot's financier.
Load More Replies..."Found" Like people weren't already there. Why are we still using this outdated language when we all know it's incorrect?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/discover https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/find Just a couple links to remind you that all found means is to come upon something you are searching for. The people that were here were found just as much as the land. Millions of people did not know of the land or people until they were found. Just like we found deer and apples and water and Jupiter. All these things predate us until we found them and named them. (All usage of we is referring to the entire human race)

This one doesn't seem weird at all. I'd always associated them with the same historical period anyway.
haha! no, that's called foxing, or a kind of aging on paper.
Load More Replies..."Columbus didn't find America" no, he didn't. Now, I'm gonna be honest- I'm not a history buff, but this is what I know- he was not the first person to discover the land we now consider America, but that doesn't mean he didn't find it. It's like finding a dollar- you didn't "discover" it, but you found it? idk just trying to explain a bit I'm sorry if my facts are wrong! If they are, please correct me (politely) instead of downvoting me!
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/discover https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/find Just a couple links to remind you that all found means is to come upon something by chance. The people that were here were found just as much as the land. Millions of people did not know of the land or people until they were found. Just like we found deer and apples and water and Jupiter. All these things predate us until we found them and named them. (All usage of we is referring to the entire human race)
Columbus was a HUGE piece of garbage. We need to include that caveat every time his name is mentioned.
Why are people still using Columbus and his failed adventure as an example of a point in time??

I have a theory that some of these seem weird because the 2000s decades have not had much distinction between them in terms of style/art/culture etc. Decades in the 1900s were very different visually. If you showed me a common outfit from 2008 and 2022, for example, I think I'd have trouble telling which was which. Know what I mean?

Here's one I like to boggle people's minds with. I'm 43 now. Almost as old as my dad was when I was born. His parents were born only 30 years after the Civil War (my great-grandfather was born DURING the Civil War). They got married right after the US entry into the first world war... when my mom's mother was only a year old.
If Austin powers came out today, he would have been frozen when Wayne's World came out.
