@Azra There are 101 and one reasons people like wearing hijab. But I read a couple of different translations of 24:31, the only verse of the Koran which mentions womens' dress codes. In my copy the last line of the verse is "do not draw attention to yourself". Others have it translated more akin to "do not make known what you conceal of your adornment," which is more specific and conveys less intention. So I will concede my original statement is debatable. But if it isn't the case, then the Koran is silent on why specific dress codes apply, only that there are obligations to adhere to and we must draw our own conclusions (or look to other sources) as to why.

So what if a Muslim woman's social or career role puts her in a position where the gets a lot of attention? Islamic tradition has not forbidden that. Traditionally, many Muslim women have been in such positions of attention. What is important here is that Islam desexualizes the day to day interactions between people. See, the problem is that people decide they are experts in Islam just because they have read a few translations of a few verses in Quran. You are just invalidating the lived experiences of Muslim women based on your 'theoretical' knowledge of hijab. Muslims have many schools of thoughts and the way we arrive at conclusions over matters is much more rigorous than just interprettng a few verses of Quran. Just pointing out that what you and numerous other people do is your version of 'mansplaining', - instead of listening to the knowledge and lived experiences of Muslims, you explain Islamic injunctions to them. Something that we Muslims have to live through day in and day out.

That is NOT the “stated idea of hijab in the Koran”. Hijab isn’t supposed to be invisibility cloak and muslim women shapeless faceless forms. Hijab is there, on the contrary, to let you and others around you focus on your personality and actions, not just the way you look.
