Some things excite almost everyone—sports, trending TV shows, viral memes—but not everyone feels the same way. Sometimes what has people talking for hours can leave others completely uninterested, yawning through the hype. It’s funny how what thrills one person can totally bore someone else.

We asked the Bored Panda community to share the things that get most people excited but leave them utterly unimpressed. From everyday trends to pop culture crazes, these stories show that everyone’s “boring” button is a little different—and some of the answers might surprise you.

I never got the fascination with football/grid iron and soccer/football. Not playing or watching that, I get that. I just don't get like how hardcore some people are about it as if half their world or more revolved around it. I suppose it applies to any sport, but those seem to be the two that EVERYONE treats as sacred.

Football (American) nauseates me. When I was a child, I spent about a week home from school, recovering from the flu. During that time, my uncle had football games on TV all day. Now, the sound of the crowd and the drone of the commentators makes me queasy and sleepy at the same time.

What grosses me out the most is when pre-teens talk about how they want to be on one of those awful dating-/séx-/relationship-reality shows when they are old enough to participate. Imo, those shows are not for young people under the age of 15-17. I also don't understand why kids would even find it interesting to watch (much less participate in). And it is a reminder to me that parents don't seem to care much about what their kids watch. But I'm just too old to understand those things, I guess. So nm my opinion.

Well, tbf, when they're older they mean when they're over 18. Kids dream of their weddings, having kids, buying homes, their careers, and, yes, they become curious about s*x and their developing bodies earlier than you think. It's just not something they openly talk about with their parents. It's like back in the day when me and my friend would check out the p**n magazines in our parents bedroom, or trying to watch the pay per view p**n channels through the static. The internet just made it that much easier. The reality shows are actually kinda tame. Then when they get older, they will decide for themselves if that's what they really want for themselves.

I used to do that. Then one night I went out with friends, spent a fortune getting wasted, spent the night yelling in my friends' ears because of the loud music that I didn't particularly like, and s*** my pants on the way home. Like REALLY s**t my pants. The next morning, nursing a vicious hangover, I thought "Why did I do that? It wasn't fun at all", and that was the last time. My roommate was NOT impressed with the state I left the bathroom in after my drunken, slobbering attempt at cleaning myself up. Ahh, memories.

“What Excites Most People, But Bores You To Tears?”: 44 Honest Answers The whole “family” hype, and how some people have the audacity to lecture you on how to behave: “Family is everything, you should spend your holidays with your parents, you won’t have them forever, blood is thicker than water,” etc.

That may be true for some—those who had the fantastic chance to be raised in healthy, supportive families.

But not for those of us who grew up in toxic, a*****e families, facing domestic violence, and parents struggling with addictions or mental illnesses. Sometimes, abuse went so far that we experienced [unaliving] thoughts or even attempts.

For people like us, such families are—or were—a nightmare, and we’re still grappling with related traumas and complex PTSD. To my fellow survivors: big hug. Family is where you feel safe, not where you walk on eggshells. Do whatever it takes to protect your mental health and inner peace.

The whole "you have to stand by family no matter what" thing is insane! No, no you do not! You owe family nothing just because you share DNA. Like OP said, if you have a good family and want to be with them that's awesome, but if you have an a*****e horrible family get as far away as possible and don't let anyone make you feel guilty for doing just that!

You are so right in that family doesn't have to be blood, and sometimes the best people are the ones you find/the ones that find you. I wish you and everyone that grew up with toxic so-called 'family' the best and hope you have/find your safe, happy place. You deserve it (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!)❤️

I support you 100%! I come from a toxic family that I cut ties with years ago. Unfortunately, some people judge me for that. While my story helps others who, precisely, are told the big cliché "Family is everything." It's FALSE! I love a river cruise. We went on the Douro, we got off the boat every day to see something, the scenery was fabulous, and the boats on rivers are much smaller and more comfortable. As to the hedonism aspect, I reckon all the walking we did on the shore trips counteracted having prosecco for elevenses 😂

Don't go on a cruise if you have a serious medical condition, even if it's in remission. If you're in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and have a heart attack, it may be a while before you get proper treatment even if the ship has a doctor and medical crew. My wife had her first (and I hope only) stroke when we were on a a cruise to the Arctic Circle. Fortunately she had it while we were in a major port (Belfast) with a first class hospital, and she received treatment within 90 minutes of the stroke. Complete recovery, but if we had been in Greenland or some place like that, it might been a different story.

Hate them as well. In generally it's just a very tacky experience. And in the US you get the added bonus of paranoia. It's a tacky experience that someone who already feels alienated from society would take issue with, and help's going to be late if someone decides that a bunch of people trapped on a boat would make good target practice, and taking cover by jumping into the water around a moving vessel carries its own risk of death. Like to think that they're checking for weapons, but it's not like many have you go through a metal detector while boarding. One of the few locations I find myself actively thinking about that what-if.

Some Children love it. I only do it for my son because for him it is like a little adventure to sleep outside and barbecue some sausages and stuff. I suggested once he can do in the garden, how ignorant of me because this is obviously not the same! Where is the fun in not peeing in the bushes, getting bitten by moskitos and so on! He is truly his grandfathers grandson. For me, i should have never started it 😩

I love camping and nature. Especially if it's by a river or lake to go swimming. I love getting away from the city and all the noise. I love the clean smell of forests. I grew up camping and constantly ran around barefoot, which is a great way to ground yourself with nature. I still go barefoot whenever possible. Plus camping is a lot cheaper than a hotel room. I have a fire pit in my yard, but for me a campfire in the woods is just different.

I love Christmas (especially after I got kids). I love to find little gifts for my kids for their advent calendars, I love the candle light, the creative decorations, the baked goods... all that. Christmas Eve (when we open gifts here) is 50/50 for me. NYE is totally unimportant to me. But, and I will say this until the day I die, my fav Christmasses were by far the ones I celebrated by myself. I ate what I wanted, went for a long walk, watched the "from all of us to all of you"-Disney show at 4pm (as it is every year), turned off all electrical lights and lit up my living room with candles and watched whatever I wanted on TV until I perhaps felt like opening presents. It was a Christmas celebrated mainly in silence and with a focus on light/darkess and also on myself. The bad thing about those Christmasses was that my family would spam me with texts and calls "are you sure you want to be alone on this night? We have food for one more, if you're interested".

Before someone threw out all my stuff that I had stored with them a couple years ago, I still had the present I was going to give her that year all wrapped up. People don't understand why I don't get excited about Christmas and I'm sick of explaining. I also hate that here in the UK, the shops start displaying their Christmas stuff in the middle of August when most people haven't even had their summer holidays. Competition can mean a lot of things. Horse racing is only one kind of animal competition. Dog agility is another and the dogs love this one. Then there's the competition where you judge the animals against others of their own breed and you should be thankful for this kind of competition. This is where people try to improve the meat, milk, and fat production of animals and if they weren't doing this, you'd find a lot of animal foods very expensive and very rare.

“What Excites Most People, But Bores You To Tears?”: 44 Honest Answers Being part of weddings. My youngest daughter is getting married in a few months, and the best I can summon is mildly feigned interest. I do not want to dress shop. I do not want to pick venues or indulge in whatever other social hell is expected. I’m supposed to spend HOW much on a mother-of-the-bride dress? Oh hell no—a nice cocktail dress will do.

OH GODS! Is that high-priced tater sack made of satin or Satan? I can’t wear burgundy for fall colors? It’s the color of wine, which I won’t even be able to touch because I’ll be taking so many anxiety meds just to 'perform' publicly.

Not only do I have to worry about wearing heels after a decade, but now I’ve got to dance with my son-in-law, who’s 6' to my 5', WITH HEELS on. I didn’t even like my own d**n wedding.

I think it is crazy: creating the perfect wedding and perfect wedding pictures but most couples will divorce after a few years. Think a bit more about your partner and your relationship, your goals in life and wishes. And if after a lot of thinking you are still sure about your choice: go on and have a nice wedding day, it doesn't have to be perfect. Just be happy together and invest in your relationship.

I was never one of those little girls who obsessed over Brides Magazine, and had my wedding planned since I was a teenager. I always liked the idea of eloping, mostly because of the privacy aspect nd partly because of the stress factor of wedding planning, especially after working in hotel front desk jobs where the property had a bridal venue. Drunk reception guests were always trying to bother the bride and groom after they went up to the Bridal Suite, usually very intrusively and often very nasty, and that would be the LAST thing I would want to happen at my wedding. When I did get married, it was a tiny group of us going to the courthouse. The MARRIAGE is the important part, not the wedding. BTW, we’ve been married almost 25 years now, still going strong, and wouldn’t you know, most of the people I know who had ridiculously big expensive weddings are now divorced—-some more than once.

For me it's how over-the-top it's become for everyday people. The pressure it puts on people and the ridiculous expense it takes to create a "perfect" day for the bride takes all the joy out of it. I wanna see two people in love take vows of commitment and then have a nice little party to celebrate their union. Don't care about the dress, the decorations, how fancy the food is ... just care that the 2 are happy and all are happy for them.

Well , most churches have realised this hypocrisy. There is a world day of prayer for Christian unity and the catholic church has pushed ecumenicalism since Vatican ii in the sixties. They're now referred to as separated brethren rather than heretics. But yes historically this was a big issue.

Religion is to people who are old fashioned. Our new religion is replaced with lore of superheroes. All myths designed to keep people in line and none of then are true.

Religion is the oldest, longest-running and most successful marketing system to control, manipulate and get people to spend money for nothing on. But to each his own, I respect your personal choice, if it is important for you. But don´t try to be missionary, or it will get uncomfortable for you.

Now, if the beach is private and there’s no one else on it—-better yet, if it’s mine—-then I could lie on it and actually find peace just looking at the water. At least for a while until I get bored or too sunburned and decide to move to the mountains. For a while at least.

“What Excites Most People, But Bores You To Tears?”: 44 Honest Answers Amusement theme parks—where the idea of fun is paying a small fortune to stand in endless lines while being jostled by strangers who think 'personal space' is a myth.

The rides are basically overpriced torture devices designed to fling you around until you either vomit or achieve a fleeting sense of 'adrenaline' that everyone else seems to worship. Personally, I’d rather skip the whiplash.

The food? The worst cafeteria meal of your life, three times the normal price, served lukewarm on a plastic tray.

And the atmosphere? Oh, simply magical. Nothing says 'family fun' like being crammed into a sweaty crowd of people who look like they lost the will to live somewhere between the roller coaster queue and the fried-dough stand.

Overall: unnecessary stress, overpriced misery, and a soundtrack of distant screaming. Amusement parks truly are the Disneyland of bad decisions.

If you can swing it, go in the off-season when kids are in school so you don’t have to deal with the family crowd. Short lines, discount prices, and no claustrophobic smothering overwhelming loud crowds to make your experience suck. When I was a teenager, we lived about a half hour’s drive away from Disneyland. I loved going there when there weren’t any crowds. Even better, my high school and some other high schools rented out Disneyland for Grad Night, where we had full run of the park overnight after our graduation ceremonies. We were the only people there, aside from employees. I understand they stopped that when kids stopped being able to behave themselves and some became violent, which is a shame, especially for their classmates who would’ve behaved themselves and just had Disney-type fun like we did. Shame.

The crowd and price problems are all too real in certain parks. You won't see me ever go to a theme park where you're waiting more than an hour to get on a ride.

I've lived my whole life in cities. Different cities in different parts of world, from Nairobi to London, New York to Beijing, Rio de Janeiro to Philadelphia. They're all different, but they all have a pulse, they're all alive. I love the people and the movement. Rural areas creep me out, they're too still. Fun to go camping for a few nights, but I could never live like that. Also, how do you get around without a car when everything is 20 km away? I like being able to walk to places. Suburbs are the worst of both worlds. I can't stand being in the suburbs. You still have to drive everywhere, but there's no peace and quite.

I prefer being city-adjacent, where I can enjoy all the perks of a major metropolitan area, yet still go home to my house and enjoy peace and quiet in my nice safe neighborhood. Living in a city would be too overwhelming and overstimulating, not to mention too f*****k i n g LOUD, for me, so being able to enjoy it for a while, then leave it behind to find comfort and relaxation while decompressing in the peace and quiet of my own home works best for me.

FWIW, there are plenty of quite good neighborhoods inside of cities. It's one thing to live in SOHO, and another thing to live in Cobble Hill. In Philly, where I live now, you've got neighborhoods like Roxborough, Mt Airy, Washington Square, Society Hill, and Chestnut Hill. They are in the city, but they are mostly quiet safe neighborhoods.

Might want to try downtown Winnipeg on a weekend. Absolutely void of people in The Exchange District but there's some restaurants and bars scattered around. Lots of theatres and museums. You can just meander around, taking liminal photos without too much bother other than the occasional request for a smoke or change. Someone might offer you a free bike. (Don't accept that offer.). Just don't get too lippy or look at shaddy people to avoid the "Manitoba handshake". Most people are in the outlying communities, where the malls and big box stores are. There's where you want to avoid if you really hate being around people, and The Forks.

To be fair to babies, when we’re all old and demented and immobile they’ll be the ones caring for us, tarmacing the roads, making the films, farming the food, delivering new stocks of clothes, cleaning the windows, etc etc etc. If everyone stopped reproducing after we were born the world would go to héll in a hand basket far quicker than it currently is. So it seems polite to just say hello and tell the mother they’re obviously very bright/alert.

But the particular genre called 'action movie'—which includes all sorts of sub-genres like superhero, sci-fi, crime, etc.—bores me to tears. Looks like someone wanted to be a grown-up really hard. Just because you don't like something (anymore), it doesn't have to be stupid. Calling it childish _is_ in fact, childish. Different people have different interests, it's not really a mature attitude to judge things like that.

I’ve started the book of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone so many times and I just get bored and forget to go back to it. It is So. Boring. Harry literally does nothing for the first half of the book. Nothing. I came to it after finishing the amazing His Dark Materials books by Philip Pullman (if you like reading these are highly recommended). Hearing that adults were also enjoying reading Harry Potter I thought it would be much the same ilk as The Golden Compass. Nope. Not a whisper of it. I have no idea what all the fuss was that started with book 1. That said, any books or films that make others happy are fine by me, I just don’t get it.

I watched the first couple of movies because (1) the books had never interested me and (2) I wondered what all the hype was. Somewhere in the third maybe but definitely during the fourth I decided this is all too pointlessly complicated and contrived and gave up.

I've never read the books but have seen all the movies. The first one was OK but after that they got dark, depressing and utterly miserable. I know we're supposed to root for the character of Harry Potter but I think he's an irritating troublemaker.

If we are in a situation where there are "games of chance" around, we'll usually allow ourselves AU$20 each, and have a bit of a flutter, and we'll play until either we've spent it all, in which case we happily go off home, or if we've actually *won* some money, we go off and buy ourselves a nice meal or drink somewhere with our ill gotten gains, and then go home. We'll have scratched the "itch", had some fun, and the most we will have lost is a total of AU$40 between us. Good fun was had by all!

If you're not going to church for the sermon, why are you going at all? I'm atheist, but I understand why some people go to church, mosque, gurdwara, etc, but if you're not interested in the content, why go? God, whichever form it might take, surely does not care where you worship from? And surely prefers that you do it quietly, alone, than by putting on your best clothes, driving your expensive car, to a building that gets tax breaks from the government, in an attempt to appear humble?

Loved these books as a kid, but I think the pacing doesn't work for modern readers or audiences. People expect things to be constantly happening. Honestly though, the story of LotR isn't really all that great. It's the eloquence of prose and description of the world that Tolkien created that I loved. But those are the very things that bore many readers. They just want to "get on with it already". And that's okay too btw, it's not a judgement. It's just a matter of opinions and preferences.

YES! I had to watch the LOTR-films in the cinema as part of one of my classes in high school. I hated that so much (but the popcorn-binging was cool). I tried to read the books afterwards because they were collecting dust on my shelf. People told me they were much better than the films. Nope. In my (untreated ADHD) mind it's all just a bunch of riding from one town to another, being chased on and on. It's all I remember from reading the books. I know it's probably not ALL the story.... but it's what I "took" from it. 🤷‍♀️

Oh the Anime thing bugs the c**p out of me!!! The writing is sooooo bad. The lines are stilted and over explanitory in every single show. how is it even possible they all adopted the same awful formula for writing dialogue? Are the viewers just so simple they need everything explained by all characters over and over in every line with an extra remark about how it makes that character feel... Maybe they need to explain in excruciating detail because they cant show it, because they only animated 200 total frames, and are just zooming in and out on them or flickering 4 of them back and forth. How has something so cheap and awful become so popular. Its the McDonald's of entertainment

I do it because I have to. Because I want to be able to say I didn’t just sit around and do nothing. Because I value living in a civilized society. But for about the past 10 years, I feel like whatever I do isn’t enough to stop the bad stuff from happening. I’m getting tired.

The problem with ignoring politics is, that it affects your life in every respect, if you want it or not. Ignorance made way for fascism again in this world, extremists will always vote. Don´t let idiots rule the world. Other than religion (at least in a seculary society), sports, music, fashion, arts etc., where you can decide what to let into your life. It "dictates" prices, laws, the management of power and even the access to ressources as water, heating, electricity, impartial information and not only the right (on paper), but he possibility of free speech, which your life depends on. Democracy dies the day we turn our back to it. Rebuilding takes MUCH more time and effort than destroying. The greek term "politika" means "things refering to the town". If we feel bored about that, we either live in a luxurious bubble without real problems or have lost all hope ( I´m exaggerating here).

I agree! I stay informed. I have opinions. But I take no joy or have any interest in debating, one-upping, or “did you see THIS latest atrocity?” Conversations.

My problem is the opposite. I get excited by things most people find boring: history, science, math, engineering. I’ll watch YouTube explainers on how an incremental change to an internal combustion engine creates a 3% improvement in fuel efficiency—and be totally fascinated for an hour. I excitedly watch people solve math problems (even really simple algebra). My friends and kids think my enthusiasm is nuts.

Mm, I sent pictures of my holiday to a dear friend from forever, and said I'd spent the morning reading by the fire because it was raining. She said that sounded like a perfect morning and asked what I was reading. I told her Darwin's book on expression of emotions and Chris van Tulleken's book on ultra processed food. I could tell she wasn't drawn in...

Me too. Or intellectually stimulating shows or podcasts such as Diary of a CEO. I go for Mentour Pilot and other aviation shows, and have spent hours listening to recorded air traffic control exchanges with pilots. Or wholesome videos such as hospice stories, parent-coming-home-from-the-wars, or Andrew Chene's interviews with NDE experiencers. When I wanna get exasperated I simply search YT for "woke dating," and feel grateful that I'm too old for that shīt.

You do not have to watch it. However, it is not "garbage". It is documentation of a very atrocious time in history. You should hate what happened, not the fact that it is documented on TV.

People in the US used to laugh at the History Channel for showing barely anything but World War II documentaries. Compared with their current fascination with aliens and the paranormal, that period -- which is now, I'm pretty sure, history, too -- seems admirably academic in spirit.

    Sports, Social Media, Music.

In New Zealand, we’re supposed to all be into rugby. No—rugby, soccer, whatever. I find watching sports boring. I’ve played a few, which can be fun, but not watching.

Social media—with all the 'look at me,' 'like me,' and fake portrayals of people’s lives? No, it’s unhealthy, in my opinion.

Music? I don’t mind it, I just don’t care, especially. Not a musical person.

It's funny - I *am* a musical person but don't desire to constantly have ear buds in to drown out silence. I love silence. I will turn on dance music to do chores because shaking my booty makes doing them a lot more fun!

This is a good point. Watching every single second of a baseball game is boring. Listening to the game on the radio as you wash the dishes or do the laundry is perfect. Talking to your friends while you sort of keep an eye on the game is good, too. It is, as one of my friends said, a great background.

Chocolate, provided you get actual chocolate and not that brown coloured sweet stuff with a hint of cocoa, contains several psychoactive chemicals (not unlike cannabis and amphetamines (but much weaker, nobody gets wasted on chocolate!)), stimulants (not unlike mild caffeine). All in all, a dose of chocolate makes for a pleasing perk, but note that good chocolate isn't particularly sweet. I can eat dark chocolate now, but I hated the bitterness when I was a child.

I love it very occasionally. I rarely have the urge but when I do, I *really* would like some. Generally though? I currently have several chocolate bars/bags of chocolate etc bouncing around the house and haven't touched any of them. (Some are probably out of date by now; I think they've been around for twelve months or so). Savoury foods on the other hand...

I actually like proper chocolate (I’m in the UK), such as 70% cocoa solids, but I still think the whole chocolate thing is totally over done. I don’t want everything to taste of chocolate (for example for pudding I’d rather have something based around fruit than chocolate) and I don’t want to eat chocolate all the time. There’s chocolate, wine, and bacon, that everyone fixates on far beyond what they’re worth to me.

Professional or college football. I belong to a large extended family, and most of them are rabid fans of one particular college team.
