When my nan was in a care home dying from advanced dementia we would give her the odd glass of Baileys. We didn't need to sneak it in, if you can't have what you enjoy when you're dying, when can you?

I split a beer with my grandfather before he died. Later that day I read his military journal to him and gave him a final salute (I'm Air Force, he's retired Air Force)

When my dad was diagnosed as having terminal cancer he asked me to bring him a hip flask of single malt Scotch. I wasn't able to go into the hospital that evening, so asked my sister to take it. My mum was there and didn't give it to dad because she was worried about mixing it with the medicine. I now have the hipflask.

This hit home for me. My aunt was a very healthy woman. By the time cancer was done with her, she was unrecognizable. RIP both ladies
