People From The LGBTQ+ Community Laugh At “Homophobic Culture” By Sharing The Worst Posts They’ve Seen (50 Pics)
The members of LGBTQ+ have to deal with a lot of hate. Whether it's in real life or online, as a group, they're constantly under attack by spiteful people who question their very own existence. So in an attempt to create a safe space for venting, they started a subreddit called "Are the Straights OK?"
Even though the sub is relatively new — its birthday is October 2019 — it already has 329K subscribers, tackling difficult social issues like sexism and homophobia. Here are some of the most-upvoted posts from "Are the Straights OK?"

Breeding Culture Is Creepy As Hell
Look at your bodies, people! Mouth, stomach, & intestines. God created you for the magnificent job of eating food & ignoring all other body systems! What can be more important than this?!?!
Bored Panda contacted the moderators of r/AreTheStraightsOK and one of them was kind enough to answer a few questions about the subreddit and what goes on in it. "The most popular theme across this subreddit is the lack of self-awareness when it comes to certain couples and their toxic relationships," the mod said.
"It's like that one guy at work who comes in every day complaining about his wife and you constantly ask yourself 'Why are they even still married?!'"
The mod thinks the community of the subreddit is really great. "We have a bunch of genuine users who share a lot of personal moments as well as laughs and friendly jokes. We do get trolls, and they sometimes are subtle, but for the most part, we really like the community that posts here," they explained.

YES! we need to stop assigning a gender to things and actions, its pointless and harmful
Is It Gay To Love Your Son?
Some critics of this subreddit can be heard saying it is simply putting labels on people and pitting them against each other which only widens the gap between the LGBTQ+ and straight cisgender folks but the mod of r/AreTheStraightsOK believes they misunderstand what this subreddit is actually about.
"First and foremost, it was created by a straight cis woman, and second, it includes straight people (both cis and trans) within the mod team and the community. Critics seem to be missing the information that's provided right in the sidebar on how this subreddit is not aimed at straight people in particular — it's aimed at bad relationships and sometimes sexist/LGBT+phobic people. Now, if critics fell into one of those areas themselves, I could at least understand why they think it's widening some sort of 'gap.'"

Can They Stop Hating Each Other For Like.. 10 Minutes?
I can cook. I did so since I was 15, because I wanted to. And, really surprising - my balls did not fall off, nor crimpled into some raisin-like remain of theirselves, nor did any other bad happen. Only effect I'm aware of is that I get decent food whenever I want. Uh, how'd that happen, eh? And I'm straight, even that didn't change.
Fellas...is It Gay To Be Able To See?

I never quite understood the english "girlfriend". Can't boys have normal friends that are girls? The norwegian word for it, "kjæreste", leaves the gender out. It simply means "dearest".

Miss My Masculine Ass With That Feminine Hygiene Sh*t
LMAO! Wuss. I learned early not to embarrassed by this. It shows others you are in a relationship woman. Because why would the guy need them? Now, I have a wife and 3 daughters. I have carried arm loads of these out of a store. This is the dumbest s**t to be embarrassed of.
I have bought female hygiene stuff for female friends when they were having pains and couldn't go to the store themselves. I really don't see the big deal.
Load More Replies...A Mom (who was an OB/GYN), 2 sisters, married twice and 4 daughters... yeah, tampons and other feminine products are not something I'm shy about buying as I had to raise 4 girls as a single dad for a few years so you kinda get that out of your fool head real quick!
This is like being embarrassed about buying condoms! Like, it means you're getting laid! Pass on the bag and just carry the box out, lol!
Some of my friends/family who have come to Norway to visit get shocked that there are condoms at the check out counter at the grocery stores here, right next to the gum and candy bars. It's so fun to watch their faces. One friend's husband was so weirded out by naked statues in a museum, we made it a point to take him to Frogner Park. I think it was a successful exposure-therapy outing.
Load More Replies...So a couple years ago I destroyed my leg, It was a mess involving years of surgeries and lots of home nursing and bloody gauze. etc. At home, I went to go throw the bloody gauze in the trash and the nurse said you probably need to put that in the container for human biohazards…I turned to her and asked how come I did not get that container once a month for my used tampons or pads??? She just stared at me with the weirdest look on her face. We are weird people
What's embarrassing about it? Seriously, bleeding happens. Get over it!
I was speaking to someone about someone having a baby and they didnt know they were pregnant. Them; 'how can women possibly not know, you have things that happen every month and it stops'. Me: '🙄 well some women don't get a regular period-' Them: 'eurgh end of conversation. I don't need to hear that' This was a male in their 50s who had kids...
Not sure what this has to do with homophobia, but, meh, I'll weigh in. I feel like this subject is another worthless male device used to shame women. Menses happens, fucktards, get over it.
I think it is funny men find menstrual hygiene products embarrassing... when I was married I would go in to the store and buy them for my wife myself... Honestly, no one batted an eye... and even if they had... like what I am supposed to be embarrassed that I have a woman in my life?
do they do the same with toilet paper wouldn't want anyone to know that you wipe your a**e
I used to buy tampons for my mom and my sister and I was a teenager. Never thought of it as something embarassing. I was happy to help them!
So when her husband becomes elderly & incontinent and has to wear adult diapers is she going to double bag those so he won't be embarrassed for everyone to see that he wets his pants? Or will he be grown up enough by then not to concern himself with what strangers think?
I remember when I was a kid and my mother would send me to the store pick up some tampons for her. I was so completely embarrassed but then I grew up and don't care now.

A Gay Friend Shared This On Facebook
can we please just GET RID of fragile/toxic masculinity?!?!?!
Yeah
I would imagine that a straight person's motivation for telling a gay person that it's okay to be gay is to let them know that the straight person is an ally. Probably not the most effective way of communicating that fact, but it sounds like a straight person who is trying.
Showers Are Gay
Wow, I forgot that was even a thing until just now....but dammit, back in the day, that term was EVERYWHERE!!!
Is It Gay To Not Have Skin Cancer ?
Imagine. If we could get everyone with masculinity so fragile to go battle the sun, I think the world might be a much kinder place to live. (Joking. I'm not actually advocating for genocide. I'll settle for changing minds.)

I Don’t Know If This Has Been Posted Here But....

Half of these are just sexist comments (which are terrible but not necessarily LGBTphobic) or gross generalisations about straight people. Bigotry needs to be fought but generalising all straights are sexist homophobes is contra producent. Also fails to acknowledge the extended biphobia in the gay world (I can’t tell my best friend that I am bi despite him being gay ).
Yes! Biphobia is a thing, and it get completely ignored. So many people just don't get that there are unique issues when it comes to discrimination against bisexual people. I'm sorry you cant talk to your friend, Burs. Maybe if you told them their reaction would be different than you are expecting? And, if not, is that really the kind of friendship you want to hang on to? I realize that's over simplifying things but, maybe something to consider. I hope things work out for you.

I´m gay and really dislike the LGBTQIA+ movement. As a teenager I did tons of volunteer works for WJNH the leading gay rights organisation in Belgium but I seriously got turned off of all of it. The zealotry of the current movement is more harmful than helpful.
I feel that its a small minority that isnthis extremist but sadly the loud hateful people is heard more than the reasonable ones
Load More Replies...I really did NOT think that by now we'd still have so many bigots against LGBTQ+ and people of non-European descent in my country (the US). I was a teenager in the 80s and although we didn't hear much about trans people, I had gay friends and we had pride parades. I never met a racist person. I was so naive to think only the oldest generation and a couple of quacks would have any lingering bigotry. It's also true about workplace sexual harassment. Young women think that raising awareness and fighting against it is new, which is really sad, because we were all aware of it 20 years ago. We thought THAT was the moment we would put an end to it.
A lot of this is embarrassing to read, although there were a couple laughs though.
Christina Applegate's character on Married With Children summed it up this way: "I hate people who hate people. ... There's something wrong with that statement." People are so blinded by their own hatred that they cannot see that their own hatred is just as harmful if not more so. I could go on to quote a verse about a splinter in someone's eye, but I will leave it at that.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry, WHAT!? "Promoting pedofilia"? Not only did you spell it wrong but that is an absurd and DISGUSTING thing to say. Does anyone know how to report a comment and ask that it be removed on here?
