50 Times People Hit The Jackpot While Thrifting In Goodwill Bins And Had To Brag About It In This Online Group
It’s no secret that thrift hunting and secondhand shopping have become super popular in the last few years. From professional resellers to vintage lovers, from budget-savvy shoppers to thrill seekers who love digging up something rare and valuable, it seems like everyone finds something for them.
All the thrift shopping goers have in-depth knowledge of the best destinations to look for cool used things, and Goodwill outlets are no exception. Here, most of the items are placed in large bins rather than hung on a rack or placed on shelves.
In fact, there’s even an online community on Reddit named “Goodwill Bins” which gathers all the Goodwill outlet aficionados and thrift hunters in one place as they get to share the best, craziest, most unusual finds they found in those large blue bins.

Vintage 1940’s Picnic Basket!
I have a basket that my mom found at the goodwill that looks exactly like that.
My dad use to have one these that my grandmother left behind with sewing material in it. It was beautiful.
$2 For The Faux Fur Blanket... Stray Cat Was Free
Stray cats only LOOK free. Mine, for 15 years, was not 'free'. Not even cheap. I miss her, decades later.
Whether you’re an avid thrifter or an online reseller, you are probably familiar with Goodwill retail stores. However, did you know that Goodwill also has another type of store? They’re called Goodwill outlet stores and are also known as Goodwill pay by the pound stores, Goodwill weigh and pay stores, or Goodwill bin stores.
Shopping at Goodwill outlet stores is a rather unique thrift hunting experience. A small handful of items may be sorted and put in bins separately, including clothing; this is an exception rather than a rule. Items are brought out in large blue bins which the shopper will have to sort and dig through themselves in order to find the gems.
I've Been Going To (And Loving) The Denver Bins For A Long Time But Just Discovered This Sub After Posting My Latest Treasure. Yesterday, I Found A Beautiful Vintage Dress That Fits Like A Glove
Oh, I'm jealous in a positive way, such a gem you've found there!
Fantastic. I've found that I'm much too tall for most vintage dresses so I'm absolutely envious. 😍
Autographed Jane Goodall Print For $3 At The Bins!
Don't say the M word! Apes have a chimp on their shoulders about that....

There must be a story as to why someone would just get rid of this. I'm glad it's in appreciative hands now.
Found A Bin Full Of Vintage Pendleton, All Made In The USA Virgin Wool Pieces!
I remember I went to goodwill and found 4 Pendleton sets, but they weren’t my size so I left them behind for someone else to find. 2 months later found 8 more but again, not my size, so had to leave them, but someone in our area at the time (near Charlotte, NC) had a REALLY good Pendleton collection they gave up to Goodwill.
That's a steal. Like jebus that is many hundreds of dollars worth of Pendleton.
The blankets make excellent wedding presents. We got one and got to choose the design we wanted and we love it so much that we now gift one to couples.
Load More Replies...At the same time, it’s very likely that as a shopper, you will be competing with many other pickers and thrifters. Usually, the bins are lined up in many rows throughout the store. After a row of bins has been on the floor for a while, a staff member will announce the last call for that row and shortly it will be removed and replaced with more items.
Vintage Quilt, Courtesy Of The Bins!
It looks a lot like the one my Grandma made for me, except mine is purple. A good quilt is always a blessing.
Lovely, lot of hardworking gone in making it.. colour combo 👌🏻
I inherited one of these from my beloved aunt Dottie. She also bequeathed me her genuine #3 brunette bubble cut Barbie. I cherish both. 🥰
It a great place to shop. You can find some amazing deals.
Load More Replies...Fabulous 😍 I have a friend who's absolutely obsessed with quilting and from being around her, her events & quilting guilds, that in good shape? that's probably worth some serious money!
46lbs Of Electronics & Games For $32.02!
Whoever sold you an intact Chrono Trigger cartridge, in the protective slip on no less, is an absolute idiot. I don't know a lot about vintage game values, but I do know that one, and it is...umm, A LOT
Probably a mom or someone who doesn’t know it’s value. My mom was an “anti pack rat” in that she made us get rid of toys, clothes often because she was terrified of hoarding things and having a cluttered filled house like her mentally ill mother sometimes did, and I KNOW she’s made us get rid of some first edition, near mint cards and other collectibles that are worth thousands at least now. Can’t be bitter over it I guess, but MAN do I hope someone else capitalized on the great finds they must’ve had eventually.

$315 Tika Leather Duffle. Scored For $10
Since most of the items are sold by the pound, there are a couple of things you may do as a shopper to make your checkout easier. Goodwill suggests dividing your cart into the categories shown in the diagram (on this webpage) since these items need to be rung up separately.
Exquisite
My chem teacher has one that says ‘Ashes of Students Who Didn’t Turn in Thier Homework’
Yikes. That's a bit of a red flag tbh. Imagine a man with an "ashes of ex-girlfriends" urn.
Look At This Find!
A vintage 70s 4/6 boho prairie lace dress. It won't fit anyone in my household but I had to buy it the price was crazy good, so I bought it to resell! (Yes it's still available!)
I was just thinking it would make a great wedding dress for someone. I love vintage things, I saw a vintage wedding/prom dress at my local thrift store that looked like it was handmade, the price was $50 I believe.
Load More Replies...With the right padding, support garments, and an ever so slightly different sleeve shape, this masterpiece looks like it comes from the Edwardian/Gilded Era and that's what I thought I was looking at when I saw it. Add a high waisted wide red belt, flowered sun hat, and oxford heels and this is Mary Poppins' Jolly Holiday ensemble.
Make a great wedding dress with a fresh floral head piece and soft, beautiful veil! And high Victorian boots in white! Add a pair of short, white lace gloves and bam, a wedding ensemble!
Found This Lil House / Jewelry Box This Weekend! My Fave Part Is The Garage Door That Opens Into A Drawer
This is great also because of thieves. Someone could easily think it’s just decoration and wouldn’t even think of looking in it if breaking in to steal
I'm sorry- unpopular opinion perhaps, but while quite creative, it is also badly executed. I definitely would have left it where I found it!
It's OK, you don't have to "like" it. Others among us are not all that thrilled with it either. To each their own taste, or lack thereof.
Load More Replies...Moreover, the associate will determine the best way to ring up your merchandise. “Please work with them to get everything weighed properly,” Goodwill reminds their shoppers. “When rolling your cart onto the floor scale, be sure to remove your personal belongings or you will be charged for their weight,” they add.
Found An Hermes Scarf In The Bins This Weekend, Couldn’t Believe It!
And this is where I say that I know Hermes is very, very pricey, but who wears this? Especially with this design? I just don't get it.
I would frame it and hang in my walk in closet. I don't have the poise to pull it off as an accessory but would love to appreciate it as art :) it's lovely.

Not if they're going to resell. Professional resellers/antique dealers will advise that you don't polish tarnished silver items and leave it up to the buyer because some people like the patina that comes with age. I recently found a midcentury "modernist" Italian sterling silver twisted link necklace (at the bins) that was super tarnished. I left it as is and listed it, and it sold for $100.
Load More Replies...I found a small 925 mexico sterling bowl at my local thrift store a few years back. I paid $1.49 for it and sold it for $230 on eBay. It weighed at a little over 8 ounces of silver.
wow as a gem enthusiast I can tell you that turquoise is one rare beauty
Worth taking for an appraisal 😳👍👍💗 I create vintage jewelry and they don't set *meh* stones in sterling - if it's real and high quality turquoise, that could be worth serious money especially for collectors of such things...jez sayin' 🥰👍👍👍
Could Not Believe My Eyes When They Set This Out In The Toy Section!!! It’s A 1977 Disneyland Weebles Playset!
This. Is. Amazing. And now I will be singing, "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down!" for the rest of the weekend.
Damn you Bubs! I didn't make the connection until you said it so now I'll be stuck saying it too 😝
Load More Replies...Weebles could very well rock this and generations to come (despite no techno or batteries). Wish someone in toy production would figure that out. There's no better toy than those you can share with your grandkids while relating how you yourself used to enjoy them .
Giggle... sorry for this but I had to...lol.. There was 2 pastures full of cattle. One had cows and the other bulls. One day there was an earthquake. all the cows fell down, but none of the bulls did. The cows were curious so, asked them why they didn't fall over. One of the bulls looked over and replied, "We bulls wobble but we don't fall down!"
I had the treehouse & the haunted house. I know at least parts are in the attic somewhere.
Found A Pokémon Binder At The Hardline Full Of First Edition Pokémon Cards
Sadly I think not.. Not shadowless or a first edition marking, so it's just a base set, which is old and cool, but worth a few dollars.

Outerwear Finds From The Bins
I'll take the whole package, please and thank you. Starting bid.... $20. Let's see where this takes us
I'll need more information about the model before I make an offer. Do they have a driver's license and their own transportation? What is their education level? Are they a good conversationalist? Are they kind to others? Are they specifically kind to children, animals, the elderly, and the homeless? Do they take directions well? Can I please see a few more clothing options, different lighting and angles? Do they support DJT? Are they DJT support-adjacent? Honestly, I could just use some help around the house but I also have standards, you see. Please and thank YOU.

Friend's dad threw his magic the gathering cards to trash. He's never really recovered from the loss. The bag had cards worth thousands of euros combined in it including a mint condition black lotus in a sleeve. We don't talk about MtG around him.
Load More Replies...Haha yesss I was looking for this comment!! Because I'll do it.
Load More Replies...Unless they ask, parents need to leave alone the "stuff" that their children have packed away or "left in their rooms" when heading off to college or wherever. My parents were smart enough to know 1) "you can't take your 'Star Wars' toys outside!" and, 2) the "Star Wars" figures and toys are safe in the garage. Years later, we sold the collection to a collector who gave us Top Dollar (several thou$and) because, even used, everything was "like new." Hardback books are valuable. Comics are valuable. I have vinyl records I paid less than $10 for back in the 1980s, and more than just a few are now valued at 10× or 100× their original price.

First Time To The Bins. I Spent $48. I Am A Former Preschool Teacher And Have My Own Daycare Now. Most Of What I Bought Is For My Daycare

Back in the 70s, my mom had that same wooden salad bowl that's sitting on the bin with the green lid. I'm sure she still has it buried somewhere in her kitchen.
We all did, lol! And they came with those gigantic wooden tongs or at least the oversized wooden fork and spoon. Salad never tasted better.
Load More Replies...Two Kitchenaid Mixers For $22 Total. Gw Airport Bins And Gw Milwaukee (Or) Bins
You can order new bowls (and attachments) on the KitchenAid website. Bowls are $40-$60 (fancier ones are more; there's a ceramic one with blue watercolors that I really want for $75) and new bread hooks, flat beater, and whips start at $20. Even if she bought new bowls and attachments for both, the entire lot (mixers, bowls, & attachments) would still be less than a brand-new basic kitchenaid stand mixer, which is $299; refurbished mixers start at $199, which is more than I paid for my brand-new one 20+ years ago. This is an amazing find, even without the bowls.

I hope it was still unopened. I would not trust opened puzzles in a second hand store...

Kate Spade In The Bins??? Both In Really Good Shape. I'm Not Even Sure How Stuff Ends Up In The Bins And Not The Store
Goodwill employee, in case anyone is wondering, brands like Kate Spade, Coach, etc. usually go to Goodwills online store, but if they are not in the best of condition they will be sold in store. What probably happened was they had been sitting on the shelf to long and they went into the bin when their tag color was due to be pulled. (aka either thrown out or put into salvage to be sent for recycling) It kills me when we have to salvage good items like this.
Yeah but they get sent to the goodwill outlets (the bins) , that's how these people are finding them. So honestly either way they are not getting wasted.
Load More Replies...I've donated all kinds of "good stuff" to Goodwill or St. Vinnies, some of which still had tags on it - not bragging about the tagged stuff, I was just too lazy to return it in the time frame.
This also speaks to just how much stuff we produce as a society. There's too much to go around!!! And if you knew how little it cost to make that bag and the fact that the high price tag is for that name not the bag itself you might be sick!

Burberry Picking At The Bins
I think this is a real one, but an older one ±1985. You can have this checked but I wouldn't bother, a nice scarf is a nice scarf. I work in the industry and I know they changed it to Burberry some time ago. So there's no longer an s at the end now. However yours looks legit up to the font they used in older editions and the way the design and mohair looks in this photo...fakes usually have a finer black yarn or bristle woven in. NEVER ever has a label read Burberry's!! Anyway, hope you get to enjoy it! 😉
Fake. Embroidery: is a mess, letters crooked and different thickness within same word, not spaced evenly, all the Ns look different, all the Es have different length horizontal strokes, embroidery isn't crisp and neat, voids in thread, some strokes bowing in or out, what the hell is wrong with the H???. Label: isn't uniformly navy, it's sewn onto the scarf crooked, the thread sewing it on is too thick and too messy, the short edges curl up because of bad sewing (labels should be flat and essentially invisible). Pattern: black lines not consistently spaced and look slightly thicker in places. Tassels: only one is neat with equal space between twists, the brown & black and solid brown ones aren't twisted evenly, with sections puffing up and the spacing uneven, all the black & white ones are an absolute mess, several tassels are unraveling at the bottom. This wouldn't pass Burberry QA. Fake. Also, labels read Burberrys until the 1990s.

Found A Prada Dust Bag In One Of The Bins, To My Surprise Look What I Found Inside. Been Told By A Bunch Of Purse People That It Looks Good So Far
LV print will be upside down on one side as they use one piece of material instead of joining it
Load More Replies...They said that's what they found inside the Prada bag I believe.
Load More Replies...The chances of this being authentic are exactly 1%. When the Louis Vuitton brand first originated in the mid-19th century, they exclusively made luxury luggage. The interlocking LV logo was created at the time as an anti counterfeiting measure because back then, it was impossible to replicate. Fast forward 150 years, and the LV logo is now a very easily reproduced status symbol (along with Chanel, Coach, Christian Dior, and Fendi). Counterfeit Louis Vuitton merchandise is now so prevalent that 99% of what exists in the global market is not authentic. There are experts who authenticate luxury and designer goods, as well as dating them and appraising their value, but in this case it's probably not necessary since the odds practically guarantee that it's a fake.
They are made from one piece material, so on one side is upside down

Vintage Kitties In The Bins! 1992 Kitty Surprise And 1992 Tyco Kitty Kitty Kittens !
I feel so old knowing that the early 90's is now considered vintage. It seems like it just happened yesterday...the 50's is vintage to me. Sigh.
I had a white Kitty Surprise and my sister had a Puppy Surprise, so cute!!
I think I had both of these growing up, didn't the one on the right make some kind of purring/rattle noise when it's head moved?) I had the purple kitty suprise and it was one of my favorites until I probably loved it to much, lol. Found one at work the other day with the kittens still inside!
I still have the one on the right!! Was one of my favourite toys growing up. She looked like my cat at the time.
Good grief, I remember the Kitty Surprise! It had kittens inside it. That was the surprise.
Oh wow. I forgot all about these. I had one as a kid and I loved it so much because of the the little kittens

Thing was, majority of teenagers don’t really a clue what he looked like, they just have an idea. Nobody said a word to her about the silly thing except me. I put it in the op shop bag and donated it away.

I know it's old, I know the animals killed are long gone, but my conscious just wouldn't allow me to wear this with any ounce of pride.
Wildlife rehabilitation sanctuaries use these for the orphaned baby animals to nestle. Humane Society of US has info on where to send them.

Something about people who were like oh i bought it to resell or I got this amazing find then found another of the same but still bought both just rubbed me the wrong way- like maybe someone else could’ve used that vitamix or kithenaid instead of you having two for no real reason.
Yeah I’ve been wearing stuff from thrift stores since I was a kid too poor to really get anything else, but my mom always made sure we looked nice so I wasn’t picked on for it. I still refuse to pay full price for most clothes because I like the aspect of recycling and saving loads of money especially on name brand items for myself or people I know will use such gifts if I get it , but now everyone is so focused on the resale value of everything that it can be hard to even find good hauls anymore. And especially people who will buy it all up just to resale it and not leave it behind for people who legit need it, like buying a good plus size dress just to resale when that is very needed and hard to find, it sucks!

When someone donates we usually sort clothes and other items before they go out on the sales floor, I'm guessing some Goodwills have sale days where you can get a discount for going through them? I'm not 100% sure as my store sadly doesn't do this. Editing to add this link explaining the bins. https://www.dinasdays.com/how-to-shop-the-thrift-store-bins/ apparently when an item gets pulled from Goodwill it gets swnt to an outlet store before being sent for recycling and these outlet stores are all bins. The more you know. Lol.

Were you able to verify they're real? I contacted the company awhile back about a flood of knives being sold on Wish and Ebay. They said all the ones on Wish were identical, high-quality fakes and they couldn't do a thing about it.

I used to leave quite a few of my toys at my grandmother’s house because I visited all the time. Then I showed up one day (circa 1983) and asked where my Micronauts were. She threw them out—not donated, but trashed!—because I seemed too old for toys. She wasn’t being mean, she just literally thought, “Well, he’s 12 now, so I guess I can throw these away.” Same with the Lite-Brite.
Why can't Bored Panda fix where one can't look at all the posts? This drives me nuts!!
This really bugs me. You can look at all of the posts online but not on the app.

I found a vase with 2 round glasses for propagating plants, which was literally exactly what I had been looking for for ages. I also got a medium sized bottle with a cork lid, turned it into an terrarium. And a little vintage decoration thing with swans and eggs. Very cute. Overall I spent $10
