My parents had a Doberman when I was little and her ears and tail had been docked. My parents told me that Dobermans, and basically other bully breeds, are prone to eatr nfections. So, their vet advised them to get her ears docked for this reason. The reason for the tail docking, if I remember correctly but I could be totally mistaken, wasn't for looks (this could also be isolated to my parents' reasoning for getting this done) it was bc they're very high-energy, hyper dogs...and since they're already so muscular, mix that with hyper...their tails are like weapons when they're running around. I was a baby when they got her, so they opted to have her tail docked bc they were thinking of my future safety for when I would start walking. She was very gentle, loving and protective over me...but my parents also had a german shepherd and a husky that she would run around with. But, as I said, my parents' reasonings for both could just have been isolated...they didn't show their dogs

Yes the ear cropping is banned in the Uk thats correct but only as having the procedure done, not importing dog yourself that have had the procedure done before import. There has been a massive rise in imported breeds with ears cropped like this and there was a proposal entered to parliament late last year to ban the import of dogs that are cropped and docked into uk. This is very worrying to me as i am in Uk myself however i've involved in international dogs rescue and i see a lot of dogs in rescue in dire need of adoption that have had this procedure. Lots by their own owners without proper sterilised clean tools, bodged by their owner who decide it was ok to DIY. I have seen many that have made an awful job of it too and some that were badly infected. Is this really fair on these already up against all odds to ever leave the vile shelters in foreign countries let a lone get adopted. the dogs don't decide they want this procedure themselves this is a decision by the owner or breeder.

But 99% of the time it's to make them look more fierce. Same with tail docking.

it can prevent health issues

God didn't put those parts there, we did by breeding traits into certain lines such as big ears, long noises, etc . Thats how you get deaf Dalmatians, breeds with Hip dysplasia, cocker spaniels that keep ear infections etc vs natural "mutts" that generally do ok.

cropped and not legal in Australia anymore. I can't believe people can do this ... same goes with docking tails. So cruel. I'll give this guy the benefit of the doubt though and hope it was a previous owner the dog is no longer with. They have ears for a reason FFS

They're cut off. I'm pretty sure Cane Corso's are born with longer ears. Sadly, horrible people cut the poor doggo's ears off.

'Health reasons?'... Then why are the long ears of a basset never cropped? Or a golden retriever? Or literally ANY other breed other than the bullies? Good thing ear cropping is banned here in Belgium. If they're concerned about 'the dog getting dirt in their ears', then be a responsible dog owner and check your dogs' ears regularly.

The Cane Corso Assoc may advocate ear cropping for 'health reasons' cutting down ear infections, the cost of antibiotics etc, and that we humans have deliberately bred our dogs to have floppy ears making them look cuter. However, if you keep your dogs ears clean there is no reason to have them cropped. It's mutilation - pure and simply.

It's legal in the US vs other countries so no.
