I would like to have more backstory on something like this before making a proclamation that it should be a thing. I worked for an equipment rental company quite a while ago and we had all manner of people renting tools, and by that I mean some would use the equipment responsibly and return it not much worse for wear while others (granted, they were the minority) would use the equipment like the proverbial rented mule and didn't care what state they returned the equipment in and there was money involved in the sense of penalties for returning the equipment in bad shape. Outside the up front cost of building such a library, where is the actual library going to get the funds to maintain the equipment through time? Where are they going to get the funds to protect themselves from sue happy idiots that don't know how to use the equipment they're borrowing?

Ours has a bunch of stuff like that, gardening tools, toolkits, a free seed bank, that kind of thing. Also a free sphygmomanometer and help with tax forms.

Or kitchen items like cupcake pans, slow cookers, and such.

This is becoming more and more common in the US! It's such a great service to the community.

If anybody chooses that option, then that just proves how often people will buy a tool to use only once. Meaning this would be very handy and save so much waste. Problem is, in less affluent areas, I'm sure there's a very high risk of theft. If you need to show photo ID to rent, and any theft will be reported to the police, then this should help a lot. Also brand them with the 'property of .... library' so they cannot be sold on.

I was wondering if it would be the same as the "reflectors' they put in the roads yrs ago - which now are broken/dirty? totally useless. When I HAVE to drive at night ( I also hate it) I have to look at the side of the road most of the time, to avoid the headlights. I once thought they had their highbeams on, so I tapped mine in request - well they put theirs on and I swear I heard aliens shout turn those lights down !

When bright lights come at me, I've always used the lines on the side of the road to make sure I'm where I'm supposed to be. I try never to look at the car lights.

Stupid people just have to ruin everything don't they?

It does work! It's the only way for nurses to put an IV in my body. I'm disabled and my arms are shot.

Yeah. My baby needed to have IV a few times, mainly before she was 1yo. It was so bad that I was allowed to leave the room, so I didn't scare my kid even more with my crying. my bf is a lot better with that sorta stuff. It'd usually take up to 4 different nurses and doctors to try different places. once they had to give up and reschedule. They even had to try in her head. 😳 they told us that it is really hard to find big enough veins on babies and if they are on the more chubby side it can be almost impossible. and they called my baby a chubby princess, which we found funny cos she's the slimmest of our kids. So perhaps we're "lucky" that all the medical issues happened to our youngest. 😬

That also happened to a good friend of mine. His kid is now Ten and is still has a big scared on its arm and hand where the nurse made a mess of putting in a iv. So this is fantastic.

Why would you say IF it works? You can see it working.

Years back it took three nurses before they got this done. I stopped them on the second nurse and told them to get someone who could do it, as my son had been screaming for over five minutes.

i remember my daughter asking for a new nurse when she was younger...cuz the 1st nurse drawing blood from her are missed and made her cry....she said to me...what did she say mom? you heard her i said...get a new nurse

When my son was 10 months old they had to put the IV in his scalp because they couldn't find a vein in his hand, arm or leg. It was barbaric to watch them trying.

It does. Midland Memorial Hospital used one on me last week.

Works great! It made me look like the Hulk.

Yep, they definitely work. The nurses use them when trying to put my canula in for chemo because my veins are shot. Saves me from a gazillion bruises from failed attempts to get the needle in.

Did you find one? I'd like to get one too if possible.

That has been my wife's (she's a nurse) experience as well. She has them available, but prefers to do it without. Only if they really have to, is when they use them.

I have had 29 surgeries in the last 20 yrs., and I am a very hard stick. The last surgery the anesthesiologist tried a couple of places, then said screw it, you've never had a problem so I am just going to throw a butterfly in your hand and I will push real slow, LOL
