Warning! You're entering dangerous spoiler territory, so if you haven't seen Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3, minimize the window until you watch it. Now that we've got that out of our way... Damn! The night really was dark and full of terrors. But thank you, Melisandre, for liting up our screens. It would have been a pity to miss out on the reportedly longest battle sequence ever put on film. Director Miguel Sapochnik told Entertainment Weekly he couldn't find a longer battle scene in a movie. The closest was the 40-minute siege of Helm's Deep in "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," which has become the gold standard for epic cinematic combats. Naturally, after the fans of the HBO series devoured the Battle of Winterfell, they flooded social media to post their reactions to it. Here are some of the best of recent Game of Thrones memes!

I think I said OMG at least a dozen times after she came out of nowhere and killed the NK. Best scene ever and I'm still pumped about it.
When this happened, I literally said out loud (to my cat and my dog), "That was Amazing. And Perfect." It was just sooo Perfect!
Since season 1 I believed that Arya was meant for greatness. I wasn’t wrong!
If you look at Sapochnik's resume, it becomes pretty obvious why he was chosen as director for this episode. He shot "Hardhome" and "Battle of the Bastards" -- arguably the two most intense and acclaimed action sequences the show has done before season 8.
We had to turn off all lights and shut the curtains to see anything.
Load More Replies...I had to cut all my lights off and have closed captions on to see and hear what was going on. Apparently Grey Worm made it out, but I didn't see him after all the wights died.
yah, totally that episode was soo dark, screen brightness was 100% yet I missed half deaths.
Absolutely! My only complaint about last night. I understand that it was the ultimate dark but at times it was almost impossible to see.
"What we have asked the production team and crew to do this year truly has never been done in television or in a movie," says co-executive producer Bryan Cogman. "This final face-off between the Army of the Dead and the army of the living is completely unprecedented and relentless and a mixture of genres even within the battle. There are sequences built within sequences built within sequences. David and Dan [wrote] an amazing puzzle and Miguel came in and took it apart and put it together again. It’s been exhausting but I think the plot twists will blow everybody away."
alas I'll more than likely be watching this ep on my tablet, so thanks guys for the advice on how best to watch this episode..chuckle
One of the biggest directorial challenges was figuring out which Game of THrones character to focus on in each scene when so many heroes are involved. "The [GoT battles] I've done previously were generally from Jon's perspective," Sapochnik said. "Here I’ve got 20-some Game of Thrones cast members and everyone would like it to be their scene. That’s complicated because I find the best battle sequences are when you have a strong point of view. I keep thinking: 'Whose story am I telling right now?'"
He better do sth useful in the remaining episodes!!! He was basically a useless cctv in this episode.
I was hoping after seeing Theon die that maybe Bran was having a vision of what the final battle would be like, but alas I was wrong. At least Theon died a hero.
Part of Sapochnik’s strategy is asking the Game of Thrones actors to fill in the blanks of their story line of what happens whenever the camera focuses on somebody else. As John Bradley (the actor who portrays Samwell Tarly) said, "We may not have seen Sam for 10 minutes but something has happened to Sam in those 10 minutes — you’ve been fighting, or you’ve been running, or you’ve been hiding. How has your story developed? You have to hold in your mind what’s happened since we saw you last."
She dropped her knife into her other hand and stabbed him with it. She's used this trick before.
Load More Replies..."We built this massive new part of Winterfell and originally thought, 'We’ll film this part here and this part there,' and basically broke the Game of Thrones plot down into so many pieces it would be shot like a Marvel movie, with never any flow or improvisation," Sapochnik added. "Even on Star Wars, they build certain parts of the set and then add huge elements of green screen. And that makes sense. There’s an efficiency to that. But I turned to the producers and said, 'I don’t want to do 11 weeks of night shoots and no one else does. But if we don’t we’re going to lose what makes Game of Thrones cool and that is that it feels real.'"
This, right here, is why so many people had issues with her sex scene...we've basically seen her grow up from this into the badassed lady she is now...
Awe, its been a hoot seeing her grow up on Tv. Gorgeous & kickass young lady :)
Someone help me out, I usually get these right away. What's the last one (old lady from Titanic)?
In one of the theories floating on YouTube, they are one and the same. Fun theories.
Load More Replies...Of this group, Jon did 99% of the work. Arya is the teammate who only shows up right at the end, makes a clutch shot, and gets all the credit.
She is the one that made up for Dani and Jon's c**k up, and saved the day.
Load More Replies...Jon didn't forget his job b/c of his gf, he was just swarmed by the white walkers and the white dragon. He just couldn't get through.
Though the Bran thing... that was a bit of a let down. He flew as a raven and we saw nothing. And no exchange between him and the Night King... Hopefully next week they'll back track and show us something...
Her death was so brutal. The yelp when she got slapped aside and the crying when she was getting back up and the bones cracking when the giant picked her up. It was really Just hard to watch.
Load More Replies...She was a little bad a*s, although he death was brutal she went out with a bang!! I'm glad they gave that little one such a heroic big end!
I cried so much and kept screaming Osita! Ositaaaa! (Little bear in Spanish). The neighbors must think I'm completely crazy.
I don’t know about you but hubby and I cringed when the giant crushed her and you could hear her bones cracking. YUCK
Why didn't he warg into one of the dragons? Wtf was the crow supposed to do?
The crows are only watching. He can't actually take part in the events, his role is to watch and remember.
Load More Replies...He can only warg into less intelligent creatures. For example - not all humans but Hodor. So warning a Dragon arguably at least as intelligent as a human was never an option.
Well, they were battling the Darkness after all...that´s my guess on why this episode was so dark making it literally so difficult to watch, like experiencing a world full of darkness in anticipation to victory.
well for someone who works in vfx , let me tell you that creating dark scenes is used to get away with okay-ish looking vfx, have used it a few times myself
Load More Replies...That´s why Robert Baratheon is not drinking alcohol... LOL
Load More Replies...He's seeing the future of fans at McDonald's desperately hoping for a wifi connection.
I agree but then that opens up a whole new can of worms, like does he know how the fight for the throne will be? The other thing the Three Eyed Raven is only able to see the past, so what happened to him to be able to see the future.
He's in the promo for next week very very briefly.
Load More Replies...Yeah, but that was early. What about at the end? He went charging in with the Dothraki, and I don't remember seeing him afterwards.
Oh thank goodness!! I was wondering, because that lovely creature was running into battle, faster than the horses!! :)
They should have shown Ghost is alive (Please be alive, Please be alive!)
The idea to make the episode so dark (literally) was brilliant! First, it put an accent on the grim atmosphere, second it gave a whole new dimension to the chaotic combat!
I would've liked it better if I could actually see what was happeninh
Load More Replies...I think it was a brilliant example of the filmmakers' art . The Dothraki with their flaming swords being overwhelmed by a sinister darkness definitely left you with a sense of terror ( what just happened !!) and did it without breaking the budget .
It likely wasn't as dark as many of you think. It's your screens. I have a crazy old TV - couldn't see jack c**p on it. Watched the episode on my macbook pro and the difference was SHOCKING. I think a lot of us are missing more than we should be because this show gets edited on crazy expensive monitors and they aren't thinking about the level of screen quality us mere mortals are working with.
Ugh, I'm f*****g tired of reading the "it's your screens" argument. It might surprise you but some people are not mentally r******d and are capable of increasing their screen brightness. Which often worsens the quality, as I will now demonstrate: https://imgur.com/a/NUW58kE
Load More Replies...I was like.- WHERE IS TORMUND?! OH THERE! Wait huh? WHERE ARE YA?!
I thought she jumped from somewhere up high. I just know she came out of nowhere and it was glorious
i think she was one of them - she can stole face, so why not stole death face?
i think she stole the face - she know this job....
Load More Replies...And the Actress isn't, but trained hard to "become" left handed!
Load More Replies...To those who don't get it, it's a reference from The Princess Bride when Westley had sword duel with Inigo Montoya
when he wargs into multiple ravens, it's to see what his opponents are doing, in the hopes that he can focus more and more accurately upon potential outcomes. he tells theon that he's a good man, and thanks him, at that specific time, to solidify theon's determination to protect bran -- the only bait that can draw the nk to that particular place, at that particular time, in order to delay the nk for a few minutes more -- giving arya time to get into position. 2/2
i think almost everyone is missing a thing with regard to bran -- he sees all possibilities. he has to cycle through a whole slew of things that might change from second to second, literally trying to sift through all the things that might or might not happen, depending where all of the players are. he can't MAKE things happen -- he can only try to influence people and things and then try to anticipate how the chips may all fall. in the scene where he gives arya the dagger she uses to kill the NK, you can see his reluctance to give it to her -- unsure of how it might be used? discomfort at putting her, his sister, into that position, although he knows he must be ruthless in this war between the living and the dead to ensure that the world of the living survives. 1/2
Beric Dondarrion served his purpose. Too many heroes died in GoT S8E3.
Think we almost knew it but still, the tension, it was so darn good!
SO basically a whole civilization (or savagezation) has been eradicated from the world within several minutes.
Well, maybe they went out because they stabbed them all into... No? Ok. Disappointing.
How bad a*s was it, though? He f*****g took out dozens of white walkers and then the Night King himself was the one who took him out! Much better to be killed by the Night King than one of his zombie lackies.
yeah, but on the other hand, if he had waited just 5 minutes longer, maybe he might have survived the war
Load More Replies...If it wasn't for those extra seconds spent on Theon charging towards the night king, it wouldn't have given Arya enough time to arrive at the scene and sneak up on the night king like that. Theon had a purpose too, just like Beric, to delay the night king killing Bran so that Arya would succeed in her assassination. That's also why Bran said to Theon "You're a good man. Thank you." Everything that happens in this show has a purpose.
Called buying time while paying for your past deeds?!...
Poor Dothrakis, they stood no chance. I wonder why Danaerys didn´t help them with Drogon.
Other than getting other people killed for several seasons and then sitting there like a target, what has Bran contributed? Other than the creepy stares, of course.
He was the Lord of Winterfell briefly while everybody was away, for example. And he discovered who Jon really is.
Load More Replies...stop hating on Bran, he stood as target for bait. That takes courage!
Bran has looked at every possible variation and outcome and he decides what is best. Individual Deaths matter Little to him.
To light the trenches she was forced to make a death pact w/ the lord of light!
Jesus Christ, spoiler much?! This is a different movie, I'm reading a GoT post because I've seen it, but haven't seen end game yet, because that's my reward for after I graduate in 3 weeks. How about a little heads-up?
Well, Bran told everyone what Little finger did, revealed John his real name (true, together with Sam), gave Arya the dagger... But this battle, I agree, he sucked (I'm not being sarcastic).
Apparently he was worging to the past to give Arya the dagger
Load More Replies...Slowly scrolling down...and didnt know what the above picture was revealing to me lol
fat, just fat - hard to be stabbed so deep to be hurt :D <3
Load More Replies...After all she did in the past (Shireen), I think Melisandre finally found redemption in S8E3.
Theon buys Night's King time for Arya to strike.
Load More Replies...Bran: No, Theon, we're cool. We're cool. You should go attack that guy, you know, for old times' sake. (coughing) The North Remembers (coughing)
That c**p made me really angry. I really don't see why he didn't tell Theon to go, he knew full well someone was on the way to save the bloody day!
Maybe it's just me, but I know I read "Game of Thrones" in the headline and that tells me that this article is based on "Game of Thrones" so, for the life of me, why would anybody bother to read this article if you neither like nor watch "Game of Thrones" ... it's almost like you're seeking attention rather than just actually not caring and moving on to a more relevant article ... I mean, if I saw "Grey's Anatomy" in the headline, I wouldn't bother clicking into the article ... scrolling is my friend ... it can be yours, too ...
I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode. I was so afraid everyone was going to die and we had to be stuck with just Cersei's plot line. I cried during the scene with Tyrion and Sansa. I feel they'll get married after it's all said and done. Arya though. She's my spirit animal.
Tyrion kissing Sansa´s hand was the sweetest moment amidst so much chaos.
