While I don't doubt that one family is genetically taller than the other, there is a perspective issue in the photo causing the left to appear smaller and right larger. The photographer should have picked that up and had the families switch sides.

There’s value in having diverse members of the force. He may have the size and presence, but she can get into places he can’t, and probably move and maneuver a lot faster too. Same thing is true of firefighters; the big ones can carry heavy hoses, plow though debris, and move heavy stuff off people, but the little wiry ones can fit in the small spaces children, animals, and small adults manage to squeeze themselves into in an effort to get away from the smoke and flames.

I have a friend who is 6’2” (2 meters or so) who married a man five or six inches shorter—they walked in together and she had her arm over his shoulder. It was adorable.

Being a 6-foot tall guy myself, I often find that I’m rarely (if ever) the tallest or shortest around. I’m pretty much average. And, unfortunately, nobody asks me if I’m a professional basketball player or Samwise Gamgee, so sometimes I’m a bit jealous of the attention others get. In fairness 4'10'' is also very small. That's the upper height limit of dwarfism (although she doesn't look like she has genetic dwarfism unless she's extremely proportionate).

When I was younger, I knew a college basketball player who was 7’6”. His mother used to buy two pairs of tall jeans, cut enough off the legs of one pair to sew on the legs of the other for him. She’d then hem the cut pair and give them to his little brother to wear. Two sons, two pairs of jeans, a little effort, but no extra expense. Until, of course, the little brother hit his teens, had his inevitable growth spurt, and caught up to his big brother...

Saw a story about her on ESPN. She's from Brazil and at 17 yrs old she was 6feet 9inches tall due to a Pituitary tumor which has now been successfully removed surgically. She is a sports model for a living is why she was shown on ESPN. Her name is Elisany De la Cruz Silva and she is now married to this guy. Who is today 5' 8".

My husband and my eldest son are both very tall. I feel extremely short when I stand in the middle. I am 1.70m. They are 30cm taller then me and my son is still growing. I am 181 cm, my husband 186 cm and our kids are already tall: my son is 9 years old and he's 147cm tall and my daughter is 6 and she's 129 cm. When I was in high school, I was at least 2 inches shorter than all of my friends (and most of them were a lot taller than that!), and I am a huge Lord of the Rings nerd, so my one friend made me this t-shirt in her graphics class that I still wear, and it says "I'm quite TALL for a hobbit!"

My dad was 6’5” and my mother is 5’4” I am 5’6” everyone on my moms side is short and everyone on my fathers side is at least 6’ including the women. It will be really interesting to see where our son ends up because my fiancé is 5’9”. Genetics is crazy.

You obviously didn't meet many then. Europeans really have all the height ranges out there, and we're not all robust and muscular. Also, Japanese people are not all hobits either. Been to Tokyo not so long ago, saw it for myself. Furthermore, Koreans are pretty tall too, especially the younger generations, and they're as east Asian as could be. Also, what do you mean by "normal westerners" anyway? My short Italian friend is a very normal and very a western person, as much as me, a tall Slavic woman.

My husband and my eldest son are both very tall. I feel extremely short when I stand in the middle. I am 1.70m. They are 30cm taller then me and my son is still growing. I always tease him by saying that we work and pray to get to heaven one day. He just grows there. My youngest son is 13 years old, and just 2cm shorter then me. So guess who's gonna be the short s**t in the house...

I am 181 cm, my husband 186 cm and our kids are already tall: my son is 9 years old and he's 147cm tall and my daughter is 6 and she's 129 cm. I don't really want her to be so tall because I remember myself as a teen being very ashamed of my height and unable to find suitable shoes, but nowadays everything is different, so I hope she'll be happy :)

Just Fyi. If you take the length of your child at age 2 and double it, you'll get their adult length.

Went to a fancy bar in SF with much-shorter male friend----all heads turned and smiled like we were the entertainment. What an absolutely AMAZING sight---tall woman with short man. I didn't like being stared at, but I see from this article that people get used to it and take it in stride. Good attitude.

When I was in high school, I was at least 2 inches shorter than all of my friends (and most of them were a lot taller than that!), and I am a huge Lord of the Rings nerd, so my one friend made me this t-shirt in her graphics class that I still wear, and it says "I'm quite TALL for a hobbit!"

My dad was 6’5” and my mother is 5’4” I am 5’6” everyone on my moms side is short and everyone on my fathers side is at least 6’ including the women. It will be really interesting to see where our son ends up because my fiancé is 5’9”. Genetics is crazy.

I don't understand some of the couples and how they manage to stay together, there must be so many challenges. I would think just having to modify the height of the bathroom sink and toilet would be a major problem.

You obviously didn't meet many then. Europeans really have all the height ranges out there, and we're not all robust and muscular. Also, Japanese people are not all hobits either. Been to Tokyo not so long ago, saw it for myself. Furthermore, Koreans are pretty tall too, especially the younger generations, and they're as east Asian as could be. Also, what do you mean by "normal westerners" anyway? My short Italian friend is a very normal and very a western person, as much as me, a tall Slavic woman.
