Never going to happen when they're the ones making the laws. I propose that if you havent the natural equipment to get pregnant then you leave the relevant laws to those who have such equipment. Still never going to happen but it's a step in the right - meaning fairer- - direction.

On the books it is more equal than it is in reality. Either partner can leave the other. In terms of financial support, it IS illegal for either parent to abandon the child. (except for legal adoption type routes). It's just a lot harder to enforce it for the biological father.

Fortunately some religions do believe this- that their god gave humans the ability to think and learn so that they could help themselves by making advances in science and medicine. At one time I was fairly religious and this was a pretty widely held belief among the people I associated with- that God gave humans the curiosity and abilities to put ideas together. I don't believe now, but it seems a much healthier and rational way to think than to just imagine he magically protects us without us having to do our part

I think highlighting that he is an ex-con, *as well as identifying his name*, would have been the best route here. Highlighting that he is an ex-con is (at least in my interpretation) an attempt to show that not all ex-cons should be tarred with the same brush, and I applaud that attempt, at least.. Well done to this man, regardless of how the media portray him.

I actually don't mind the 'ex-con' bit. I think it shows that just because someone has a criminal record it doesn't mean they are a bad person and that in fact, they are often better people but just had s****y circumstances in life and were probably driven by desperation a need for survival.

This is so biased... She was laid off for using the above photo as her Facebook and Instagram account, not for flipping off Trump. Also, not only did she not run for the office bacause "she was so angry" but also she insisted that she is being supported for her knowledge and expertise, not for the gesture. Saying she started for the office of pure spite and saying that she was elected because of that is like denying all her extensive competences for the office...

My husband and I now have inherited wealth (onv not on this level) and no heirs and all we talk about is how much we want to leave to charities and individuals. I resented my parents for doing nothing to help me when I had no food and was scrounging to just keep myself going- but I think it was the right call in hindsight.

There are 700+ billionaires in the US alone. Hunger should not be an issue. But it is. So that tells me that the kind of people that become billionaires are the kind of people that shouldn't be. In other words, if you are decent person, once you get to generational wealth, rather than accumulate more, you start trying to fix things. This results in you never making billionaire status. So by nature, any billionaire is automatically the wrong kind of person to be a billionaire and should be taxed at 80%. Btw, those 700* billionaires, they have 4.7 trillion dollars between them. That 4.7 trillion is your middle class. That's money for teachers, roads, infrastructure, vacations, doctor visits, and everything else life has to offer.

I had surgeries in both eyes which were absolutely needed. The surgery lasted 3 hours and cost nearly $10 grand. I have decent insurance from my employer and I'm still on the hook for $3900. Co-pay. I make decent salary but in this economy and inflation which is generated by corporate greed, I'm only 2-3 paychecks away from homelessness. So I told the hospital I don't have an extra $3900 laying around but I can make payments. They didn't like that so now this medical debt in in collection ruining my otherwise already s****y credit rating even further. To quote Metallica, "Sad but true".

having been self employed for most of my adult life,health ins. was the biggest financial drain on our income...after several surgeries, knee replacements and such the copay was 20%...we couldnt pay but started sending 50$ a month...they bitched but accepted it...once they cashed that ck we were fine...making an honest attempt at paying the bill and not going into collection...they can suck it...pay what you can monthly..they told my husband " that wasn't their payment plan!" and he told them, " yeah, but its mine....its what we can afford...be glad you're getting paid at all" .....

I think about that when I have to wait at a doctor's office...it may take an hour and he/she may possibly be in a hurry, but at least I can visit for free. We are hit hard by the flu at the moment, especially children's doctors have to sent kids with less serious illnesses away...doctors are begging people to get vaccinated. What I want to say is that our System is good, but during flu season and now Covid especially hospitals are seriously struggling. And of course, you can drop out of social security (rare) or not being insured at all...

It's sad that a vaccination is the least you can do and people who are able to get vaccinated don't take advantage of it. I had a flu that cost me tons of $$$ in copays, missed work without pay, permanently damaged my lungs- I get a flu vaccine now every year and thanks toy health insurance have never seen a bill for one. There are free vaccine clinics in the US and people don't use that service because they don't think these illnesses are serious- until they get one, and it is.

Cancer screenings are often free through public health programs- but what if they find something? Then you're on your own. My mother had breast cancer and every urgent care appt I went to (no insurance, so I'd only go for something acute) would say "there's free breast cancer screening available". So what? If I have cancer I'll just live with that knowledge because I can't afford to treat it or take the time off to deal with It. Better to not know and just drop dead. Im in a much better position now and I'm grateful every day for that.

That is not entirely true. We pay hell lot of money for health care in taxes. Then when you need anything more than GP you have to do private and PAY for the visit or wait for a year or more to see someone like laryngologist. Two of my kids had 3rd tonsil removed and if I would wait for "free" operation they would go deaf as waiting time was (I s**t you not) 2 (two) years (yes over 700 days). So I had to pay for the surgeries anyway ...

They tried something similar with Undercover Boss, but of course it just turned into a weepy network TV show where rich CEO's get to see how the little guy works for them, and then the big "reveal" to distribute one-time largesse that costs the CEO nothing and makes themselves look good on TV. American hospitals are highly consolidated, meaning there’s less competition. Around a quarter of the costs that Americans pay for healthcare are administrative. To put it bluntly, you pay more due to how inefficient the bureaucratic system is.
The sad reality is that the US doesn’t provide the same bang for your buck as other developed countries do when it comes to healthcare. Americans pay far more. But they get far less. This is a pity because the country is full of talented and hard-working professionals, and has access to good tech.

What the? I NEVER read a children's book that was so well written, that adressed true problems without much of sugarcoat and yet, so appropriate for children. If anything, this should be read another time during school, not taken out of any reading list! And, tbh, as a non-english native, it took me just a few days to read it. I'm so tired of this. I recently found out that my elementary school banned a whole bunch of LGBTQ books. When people ask why kids are so uneducated I tell them to look up "Books banned from schools.". Some schools banned Charlottes Wed, because one of the main characters dies. I will never understand the reasoning behind banning books in schools.

@ Matias (cool name btw) the problem is this is not a joke for more states than I care to look up. And until a certain point, the baby is not able to live on its own yet. Or even worse, it isn't developing correctly and will be born in pain, needing machines for survival. The point is: some things should NOT be legislated because there are too many gray areas to be able to only have black and white solutions.

Just my opinion...I believe that black lives matter. The problem is when an organization with a wholesome purpose is hijacked by violence or it becomes the core of their public face...the wholesome disappears and all we see is the violence. Let's say you are my neighbor. You own the house next to mine. You live there with your spouse and children. We disagree about how a lawn should be mowed, but we discuss our differences and come to an agreement. That is how BLM started. Now, let's use the same situation. We disagree. So to prove a point, a different neighbor who has witnessed this, leads their friends to your property to steal and burn your house to the ground. That is BLM as it is perceived now. Peace isn't always easy...violence is.

Had a lunch lady in elementary tell me that if I couldn't pay for my lunch they would start giving me a cup of peanut butter. I told my teacher, who told my mother. And in what I must say was one of her finest moments hopped on her broomstick and canceled that lady's Christmas for speaking to me like that. My mother and I might not get along but I will never question her ability to make heads roll when it comes to her kids. I learned that from her and my kids schools tremble when I walk through the doors

Let's look at it differently. Our taxes pay for the food and labor to produce it. Then the school charges the people who already paid for the food and labor in order for their children to eat. How is that legal? That's like paying for your food at a restaurant and when it is ready, you are told that you have to pay for it again before you can eat it...

My son school they never let a baby go hungry they do make sure the debt is on the account but no child is not allowed to eat because their ability to pay...... I don't understand how some schools do this they have no idea what's going on at home and it's not the child's fault for what their parents have going on I send my son religiously every Friday with 3$ so he can get 2 ice creams one for him and one for his friend who used to have to watch the whole class eat ice cream because he couldn't afford it. I ate lunch with my son and this little boy was infront of us and he said can I have ice cream and she said I'm sorry you don't have any money on his acct my son said mommy he never has money I feel bad sometimes he cries.... it broke me 3$ a week is well worth it. My only regret is I didn't know sooner

One point of MAGA fifties worship I am completely on board with: let's go back to the tax structure of 1951. People were taxed 91% on anything they made over 100k. Just sit for a minute and think about how much money would flow into the economy from Musk, Bezos, and Buffet ALONE. Then remember that's 1% of American billionaires. Of course, we should adjust for inflation, but still, the amount of money is almost literally unimaginable.

Very few who made over $110k paid much in taxes on anything. There were all sorts of perfectly legal tax shelters designed to keep the rich and their money together forever. Some of those tax shelters are very much around, like the oil depletion alllowance.

The loopholes that need to be closed are the LP, LLC and Trusts that don't get taxed like individuals do. The American tax system is so complex, it changes constantly and it's sometimes hard to keep up. Technically, the millionaires don't "own" anything. They have it tied up into investments, trusts, and partnerships. And you have millionaires making tax laws for millionaires. None of it will change until the 2 party system is dissolved and middle-class/low wage earners actually have a shot at making the laws that govern tax.

It's largely the same with me and my mom. We both voted for Biden but we don't really like him now, mostly because he hasn't been willing to actually stand up and do the things he should and can.

We can make them do this again. Not only tax the rich but close the loopholes where things like political contributing or speaking at their own charity or speculation in investment can be used as a write off for taxes....

Average hospital employs 3,700 people, so that's approx $5,400 bonus per year for every employee... Obviously tax etc... needs to be taken into account, but honestly, I'd rather see the workforce happy than take it all for myself.

It took me 6 months to get my certification. That's all. I also went to an academy that was widely mocked for focusing on "book larnin'" instead of physical prowess. I did not become a cop because of my experiences with other cops. "Not all cops" but like, most of them are kind of awful. There's a weird fetishization of the military and at least where I am, almost all the cops are former military. There's SO much bigotry: racism, sexism, homophobia, classissm... they're all judgmental d***s. If they think a law is stupid they don't follow it, but if you have a friend who smoked weed they're a BAD person and so are you. For being their friend. American cops are problematic and the entire culture is rotten. There are more good cops than bad, but the system itself is broken.

In Quebec province, Canada, police officer have to go trough a 3 years school program AFTER high school and then they have to pass another test to be officially police officer. And, just to be able to enter the 3yrs program, they have to pass a bunch of physical and mental test. If you’re not in a good shape, don’t even think about becoming a police officer :-)

Here is the secret: Norway doesn't spend billions of tax dollars to support foreign wars. Norway doesn't squander it's wealth or it's blood by participating in an endless stream of armed conflicts all over the globe. Norway has a strict immigration policy - you can't just sneak in and go on the government dole. Norway doesn't support poor & developing nations with massive relief packages and infrastructure. I told someone my carer is from Pakistan but Christian and they were shocked, I explained that Pakistan was closer to the Middle East than the UK and they looked at me like I was still dumb. I asked them if they knew where Jesus was said to have lived and they hands down did not know it was the Middle East! They wouldn't tell me where they thought it was, but I have a sinking suspicion it was Europe!

Had a similar conversation with a younger friend. He asked if he could ask me a personal question...I said sure. How much is your mortgage per month on your house? I told him and he was shocked that he pays almost 30% more per month....on rent for a one bedroom apt. Even I didn't have it that hard at his age.

I remember a couple years ago (I think it was because of the election), I don’t even remember the start of the conversation, but a couple of boys in my class were trying to tel me Biden was raising taxes for everyone and that he shouldn’t get elected. I'm not American, but even I was dreading reading this because of the amount of these articles here on BP that completely mock the USA - it's disrespectful at this point. However, I'm glad this article showed both sides. For all the absolute crazies, there are more thoughtful, intelligent Americans standing up to them. If you must post articles showing up countries, make them like this one that shows both sides. EDIT: Both sides meaning I while I read about bad things, I also saw good people correcting them and standing up for what's right. For those who didn't understand.

I don’t like it either. We have so many problems in America but I still absolutely f*****g love it here. There’s so much awesome stuff about America that we could talk about. I could leave this place, nobody in my family lives here but me. But you’d have to drag me out of here kicking and screaming. America is fun, diverse, huge, difficult, beautiful, frustrating, charming, bland, all of those things. Highs and lows. There are definitely better places in some aspects, but not all aspects. There are worse places too. But I appreciate being able to live here. If my family wasn’t able to immigrate here just before I was born, I wouldn’t have this awesome and wonderful opportunity. We aren’t the land of freedom but we are do have chances here to be what we want to be. Many people don’t see it and many people have it hard enough to not really have many opportunities but for me, I’m so grateful and happy I’m an American.

I'm not American, but even I was dreading reading this because of the amount of these articles here on BP that completely mock the USA - it's disrespectful at this point. However, I'm glad this article showed both sides. For all the absolute crazies, there are more thoughtful, intelligent Americans standing up to them. If you must post articles showing up countries, make them like this one that shows both sides. EDIT: Both sides meaning I while I read about bad things, I also saw good people correcting them and standing up for what's right. For those who didn't understand.

BoredPanda staff, do you have absolutely nothing better to post that listicles constantly bashing the United States? It’s flat out sad and nasty. I’m not even from there, yet the constant nasty listicles like this are bordering on being flat out cruel. How would you like it if BoredPanda users constantly bashed your home country? Oh you wouldn’t? Then please stop with these lazy posts! This site has gotten so incredibly mean and negative anymore. You’re going to start losing a lot of readers.

I don’t like it either. We have so many problems in America but I still absolutely f*****g love it here. There’s so much awesome stuff about America that we could talk about. I could leave this place, nobody in my family lives here but me. But you’d have to drag me out of here kicking and screaming. America is fun, diverse, huge, difficult, beautiful, frustrating, charming, bland, all of those things. Highs and lows. There are definitely better places in some aspects, but not all aspects. There are worse places too. But I appreciate being able to live here. If my family wasn’t able to immigrate here just before I was born, I wouldn’t have this awesome and wonderful opportunity. We aren’t the land of freedom but we are do have chances here to be what we want to be. Many people don’t see it and many people have it hard enough to not really have many opportunities but for me, I’m so grateful and happy I’m an American.

The first time or two I read a BP post bashing Americans I laughed. We are sometimes pretty lame. Definitely different than Europeans. But I have to say - I've had enough. It's sad that you feel like you have to constantly rehash the same thing over and over. I'm starting to think you do this to make yourself feel better about your own miserable life. Can't you be happy without bashing Americans all the time? Move on.

It’s really disturbing and quite sad. I’m originally from the UK and let me tell you that we have our fair share of problems as well. This site used to be about artwork and funny articles now it needlessly censors users, bans users for getting downvoted for different opinions, and has taken a really negative slant with their listicles. They have already lost a lot of readers. Hah hah, wish there was a way to report a post.
