Human history is full of gruesome power struggles, cruel executions, sickening genocides, famine, disease, and history facts sometimes seems unappealing and grim, to say the least. Luckily, Twitter account @MemesOnHistory is shedding some light on our past's interesting facts by using the internet's most beloved funny memes.
The best part, however, is that almost all of these historical memes are so accurate, publishers could even include them in their textbooks. And they should. Students would probably relate to history memes better and understand the historical events better if, for example, SpongeBob SquarePants excerpts were used to illustrate the Second World War or US Middle East Policy. Amongst others, Hitler failed to invade the Soviet Union (now Russian territory) in an event known as "Operation Barbarossa". The German forces were not equipped, nor trained for the harsh winter conditions, which marked the failing of the operation with a total of 1,000,000+ german military casualties.

Oh man, FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME with this misnomer, it's up there with french surrender BS. Nobody. Invades. Russia. In. The. winter. Neither Napoleon or the Germans. They invade 5/6 months before, then get bogged down with attrition, scorched earth and end up still being stuck there by the time winter arrives. It's extremely misleading haha. Yes, of course it's insane to fight a land war there regardless, and Napoleon at least had better planning & took Moscow..but THEN had to escape instead of wintering there. The Germans were extremely overconfident, overextended and had zero preparation for winter, & had poor mechanization outside panzers so were marching and using supply horses so moved at Napoleonic speeds.. The essence of the meme is accurate but incredibly annoying for a history buff because you always see "don't invade Russia in winter" memes like they began in mid December
As I understand it, part of the difficulty lies in the Russian winter lasting from September through May.
And still Russia fell to the same trap trying to invade Finland during winter..
Russian defense strategy = OK comrades, turn around, walk away, burn or take all food on our way and lets those attackers freeze to death. It shouldn't take more than four, maybe five months.

Late start of operations, bad condition of the roads in Russia, the russians strategy of retreating in towards Syberia and seting fire to everything they couldn't take so the enemy won't find any resurces... basically every time some nation tried to invade them got caught there by the winter and got defeated by the hard weather conditions for wich they were not prepered

1) The war known as the Great War is WW1. 2) As it may be true that antisemitism did exist from a long time ago, it wasn't really used as a campaign folly until after the events of WW1. 3) The helmet and cross shown are of the German Empire, not the third reich. 4) Italy and Germany were allies for WW2, not WW1.

Just think, I wasted all that time, effort, and money, working for a degree in history, and I could have accomplished the same thing in one simple, honest, and highly accurate set of lessons from this wise person. :(
Why half these (accurate pictures on history) are attacking the christian religion or the european people (AKA white man)? No other nation ever invaded another one outside european nation? No other religion outside christianity ever was dogmatic and closed to science? This is more ideologically oriented propaganda than anything else. Also, i think the idea of sarcastic images have been used before, before they called it memes...
