Rosco, anyone bitten by a snake in the UK would be seen straight away in A&E, there wouldn't be an appointment system in use for that scenario. Also, I had a sudden health issue and spoke with a doctor just before New Year and am seeing a specialist and having full range of tests on Monday 7 Jan as UK rules say for this problem I must be seen within two weeks. One week if I was older.

I agree. I'm from France and we always think the French system is the best, but I have to say the NHS is actually better. In France you have to pay first, and get your money back after filling forms (we do love forms in France) while in the UK all the paperwork is gone and you don't need to pay in advance (so if you don't have the money, you can still go to a GP - in France, even if you get the money back, you'd need to be able to pay first). And the service I received here was fantastic.

I understand that, of course, but there must be ways to control the costs? 83 flippin grand for drugs is absurd, it's like OUT OF THIS WORLD type of absurb. In Sweden expensive drugs are subsidized.

Now you are just making up "facts". Amputate a limb is massively expensive: surgery room for hours, 3 surgeons, assistant, anaesthesiologist, then bed care for weeks, nurses, rehabilitation, physiotherapists, prosthetic and lifetime disability support. Amputation is way more expensive than an anti-venom shot administered by a nurse. All hospitals in areas at risk of snake bites have it because it's the cheapest, quickest option. Just amputate? How much would you say your own arm was worth? Or your child's? As an amputee I find your attitude not only flippant but offensive. The value of a limb should not be monetary, nor should it involve insurance or lack of it. It impacts ones whole life, from phantom pain, neuropathic pain, psychological trauma, having to learn virtually every prehensile, digital skill you have ever learned over again - hundreds of hours of physical and occupational therapy and revision surgery. Again, if you can call requiring a limb amputating fortunate at all, I was fortunate to be young (15) and had the excellent and free care of the NHS when I lost my lower left arm. Try thinking before you speak and stop making everything you say bend around your questionable right wing politics. You probably couldn't care less but you have really upset me.
