This Rug Pattern Carved Into A Hardwood Floor

I question the "beautiful floor" part. The entire floor seems to be made up of very small pieces, and no effort has been made to stagger the seams between them. The carving does a beautiful job of distracting from this.

kinda funny that there was an article about this piece months ago but now they're leaving out the context? in case anyone was wondering this is an art piece created by Selva Aparicio who states "This piece is about covering and exposing, trauma and bearing witness" so i feel like its a lil messed up to just act like its not an art piece? idk

This was recycled, discarded oak flooring whose "only purpose in life" was to BE ART. For goodness sakes, get over the "ruined a good floor" tears. This floor did not freaking exist prior to the installation. *eyes rolled all the way to another dimension*

That info was not provided, so one could very reasonably think that this WAS a regular, home wood floor. Calm down and put your eyes back in your head.

Actually this is an improvement, this parquet floor pattern is too much irregular, my guess is the tiles are from a pile of discontinued models.

Hopefully they filled it with clear resin. As to those saying they "ruined an expensive hardwood floor." That's recycled wood, likely a mix of old and new growth, probably Douglas fir or Southern Pine. You can tell by the color, the short board length, and the grain pattern. Both would be comparatively easy to carve compared to oak or tropical hardwood.

This is absolutely stunning! That being said, if I were house-shopping and came across this, I would immediately turn around and leave. I can not imagine my 5 year old spilling red juice or my clumsy hubby spilling coffee on this. What a pain to clean alllll those little crevices, and the potential staining it would leave!!

Previously, Bored Panda talked to the moderator of the Awful Taste But Great Execution subreddit, who was happy to share some insights about their community. Created in 2016, the online group is relatively new by Reddit standards, yet it has a solid member base of 1.5 million, which makes it a real powerhouse of the internet.
It turns out, in the beginning, the r/ATBGE community focused heavily on automotive-related posts since it was a spinoff on another subreddit. “To make /r/ATBGE more appealing to the masses, we opened up the subreddit to include things beyond autos (tattoos, fashion, décor, etc.)” And this is the point where the community really started to grow,” the representative of the moderator team told us.
