Mine as well XD It's really curious why hands are so difficult for AI to get right. Sometimes faces as well...
Load More Replies...It's interesting that hands are an especially difficult part of human anatomy to learn to draw realistically. And AI, too, has a problem with shaping them.
Opinion as an artist; AI art isn't stealing (unless it's literally just taken directly from a few images). I'm not afraid to admit that a lot of my work is based on different references I collect from all types of sources, including other artists. An artist's mental portfolio is built up on different things they learn and observe along the way, and an AI doing this is no different. I mean, hands are famously difficult for artists to get right (I'm artists) and AI struggles with them too. Does that not prove that it's the same learning process? Why do humans get to do it but it's stealing when AI does? I understand that AI art often looks very similar and is not everyone's cup of tea a lot of the time (I personally find a lot of it to be very aesthetically pleasing but devoid of emotion) but I'm also not going to stand here and vouch for artists to use references and learn new techniques from other artists, but then turn around and condemn AI for doing the same.
That's kind of what I've always thought. They put in a lot of references for AI to use to the point where nothing really copies someone's work

That really made me LOL, until I noticed who's the man in the picture. Well, I'm almost certain it's him.

Perhaps this is incentive for graphic designers to think “LET ME IN THERE I CAN DO IT BETTER”

No matter what kind of job we have, we all face challenges. It's like a bumpy road that everyone travels on, no exceptions. These difficulties can make things tough, but there's something important to remember: you’re not alone. That’s why we reached out to Kristina Leonardi, a holistic career coach, personal growth expert, speaker, and author of Say It To Make It: Affirmations to Empower the Heart, Mind, Spirit and Soul, to explore the topics of work-and-life balance, dealing with self-doubt, and making connections with others.
Leonardi told us that it is extremely rewarding and humbling to help guide and support people in their life’s journey and evolution. “It’s an amazing feeling when a client comes to me feeling completely stuck, demoralized, and/or frustrated thinking they have limited options or not knowing why they are in the position they’re in or how to get out of it. But when I’m able to connect the dots and give them a new perspective and way to see themselves and their journey, they end up feeling lighter and more hopeful about their situation no matter what it is- sometimes in even just one session they can have a huge aha or feel better and more peaceful about all,” the coach shared. “Providing that clarity and direction, along with tools and resources, makes things a lot more manageable for them moving forward. So I guess in the short term, it’s really meaningful to see the immediate relief that people get from my sessions, and in the long term it’s amazing to see how people’s lives change, and they grow into themselves, express their talents, find career success and improve their self-care.
I believe that everyone has their own unique combination of talents, gifts, and abilities that humanity can benefit from, so when everyone reaches their highest potential and does their job, the world will be a better place. So basically, I’m very fulfilled in my job by helping others do theirs.”
Writers too. How well we remember the 'Dreaded Blue Screen of Death'...
Load More Replies...I don't know what a PSD is, but I used to edit wedding videos and was in the habit of hitting Ctrl+S about every three minutes because, all too often, the program would freeze up and I'd have to restart it. It only took one (or maybe two!) times of losing the last hour of my editing to create that habit!
It's a Photoshop document. But if you're a proper designer, you amend the file name each time too :)

As a writer Ctrl-S is a reflex move every time I pause to think (which is more and more frequently as the years go by - sometimes I forget to start again). I've been using word processors so long that I initially trained myself to do Crtl-Q-S (bonus points if you know the WP that comes from!)
In a fast-paced and competitive field like design, it can be tough to manage one’s job and personal life. But don’t worry, Leonardi has some tips for those who are struggling but want to find a good balance between their professional and personal lives: “Take 15 minutes for yourself twice a day to reconnect with YOU. The first thing you should do when you wake up is sit quietly with yourself and perhaps with your cup of tea or coffee; listen to some ohms or nature sounds (or real nature if available!); maybe have an inspiring book, prayer, mantra, or do affirmations. Basically, you want to start your day that creates a foundation where *you* are in control of your energy and your day, not outside forces pulling you every which way. And then at the end of your workday, you want to have a very definite check-in with yourself, perhaps lying on the floor doing some deep breathing, releasing the day, processing and letting go of whatever transpired, and getting back in touch with yourself again. I call these anchors and when you do both on a daily basis (or at least start with one), it can literally change your life. It puts you back in touch with your own thoughts and feelings, and makes you more in control of your world and able to respond from a more centered place. Also, the second anchor becomes a signal to your body and nervous system that you are transitioning from your work day to leisure time.” You can read more about that in Leonardi’s book “Say It To Make It: Affirmations to Empower the Heart, Mind, Spirit and Soul”.
Oh, you have an dedicated FAT-Server for your works? That's cute. And don't ask me why your Hard Drive is almost full...

Yes. All my Google apps have to live in one folder because they look too similar. So I open the Google folder and find the right rainbow shape for the occasion now.
Is it weird that I actually prefer the second one? I like the matching patterns and colors better
That's not the point, though. From a usability standpoint, the second one is a nightmare because everything looks the same. Of course the goal was to create a uniform "Google look" to increase brand association, but it doesn't actually benefit the users!
Load More Replies...Feeling like you don't belong or that you're not good enough is something many people go through, even in fields like design. It's called imposter syndrome, and it can make you doubt yourself, especially when you're surrounded by others who seem really talented. But here's the thing: there are ways to fight these feelings and boost your confidence, even in a tough industry. “Trust that you have your own spark and combination of perspectives, techniques and experiences, therefore no one can create exactly how and what you create,” Leonardi shared. According to her, there is no competition, it’s just a matter of taste. “You can certainly always brush up on your skills, practice the ones you have or add to your capabilities, but at the end of day, art and design especially are very subjective things, so just know that your own unique expression is enough. Also, doing the previously mentioned ‘anchors’ will help build that confidence muscle and listen to your own voice and intuition.”

It's like having a secret weapon – the more relationships you build, the more opportunities can come your way. But what if you're someone who's naturally quiet or shy? “Just be yourself,” says Leonardi, and “always find a point of connection, perhaps through work someone has done, or maybe even something in their personal life. With social media, you can get a sense of someone and see if there are any shared interests or commonalities that you can connect with them on, and then it becomes a much more natural interaction.”

Honestly when I look at books the cover can actually tell a lot about it
For instance, if a real person is on there, not drawn, it's going to be weird or bad
Load More Replies...In fairness, I think this adverb came from before these full-color, highly designed dust covers were a thing; maybe even a well-worn cover could often mean the book was a classic.
oh don't you worry. I will judge Empress Theresa on the cover alone and spare me the pain of actually reading it.

Load More Replies...I always say, when picking a publisher to approach, take a look at their covers - and especially if they're an indie press. If they've taken the time to ensure the cover looks good, that means they'll likely treat your book with equal care. If their covers look cheap and nasty, stay away.
I have been working with musicians for 30 years as a designer. It is my job to force the consumer to be attracted to the cover art even if the music is trash.

Canva is a really accessible *shrug*. Yes, you shouldn't be using it if you're a professional designer, but for personal use, it's fine. I used it to design my wedding invitations, and use it for making YouTube thumbnails.
I agree - I actually work on the marketing and social media team for a fairly large company - we all use Canva lmao. We also use Photoshop & Illustrator etc too for big projects and major designs, but part of being a good designer means knowing what tools you need for what job. Canva is perfect for quick social media posts or small easy projects. I used to scoff at Canva when I was more junior, until my head graphic designer and marketing director told me “dude Canva is actually so helpful sometimes honestly” and he kind of humbled me about my design snobbery lol, it really changed my perspective. I’m not going to spend 2 hours with layers and s**t in Illustrator, designing my own assets or searching for them on a database, etc for a minor Facebook post about a staff potluck or bottle drive or something that I can make in 15 mins or less on Canva. Plus if you actually know what you’re doing, you can make a good design on Canva. Work smarter, not harder!
Load More Replies...Well, if paid separately, Illustrator is more expensive (actually, the same price as Photoshop alone), as Photoshop comes at a discount in the Photography pack (with Lightroom included!).
Load More Replies...Pixlr is also pretty good it’s just open source photoshop but you might need some premium
You start with Bachelor of Making Pictures? (.bmp), and after you develop your animation skills, you can get your Master of Photoshop Grapphics (.mpg). Then you can get lost in theory and end up writing about stuff that hasn't been explicitly considered since 8-bit graphics, for your Doctor of Original Televisuals (.dot) [I'm a coder; academia is still teaching coders how microprocessors work, which someone still needs to know, but let's not pretend I'm going personally going to redesign MySQL's optimizations for my joins or sorts based on the latest chip design.)
Probably on Windows which is a a 32 bit shell for a 16 bit operating system, originally written for an 8 bit processor on a 4 bit bus by a 2 bit company that can’t stand 1 bit of competition.

I get to receive the questionable work at prepress. The questionable choices really do not get the job done. Some stuff need sooooooo much work done to them until they're ready to print. Edit: I just had to make a leaflet made with photoshop print ready. And it's impossible, since the thing is not possible to edit. So it's gonna look like s**t.

Pro level: naming the layer like "air_tremble_noise_3125167_beta_new_FINAL" and then later staring at the screen and trying to remember what exactly this layer does, as toggling it does not seem to show any effect...
I'll keep going adding new layers until all of a sudden I have to make 3 copies of this layer and "Wait! I'd better name these so I know which one is which!". Then spend the next 20 minutes naming layers and figuring out what that one was that doesn't seem to change anything when I turn it off. And 30 minutes later I have completely forgotten where I was going with those 4 duplicated layers >:(
Load More Replies...Naming layers is a great habit to get into. I usually only remember this four hours into a project.

Joking aside you guys have got to do something about guns in your country.
Thanks for the advice. We've been frozen in horror and I guess no one anywhere has ever thought to do something about it. I'll spread the word that what we should do is something. Really looking forward to not having this horrifying problem any longer. All the politicians and the NRA will be shocked when they see us do something after all this time of not doing something. I suspect the politicians will be so shocked anyone has a problem with our children dying from gun violence that they'll immediately return their contributions to the NRA and draft legislation that clarifies that in spite of the constitution's provision of the right to bear arms, there isn't a right to bear any kind of arms they want no matter who they are. I bet it will even make all the gun control activists and organizations do something now that they'll know they're supposed to do something. Sorry for the cannon fire - it's just damn near insanity-inducing for some of us to hear we should "do something about" it.

You are an amazing designer. Your the best designer my snake friend.
Thats how expensive cameras end up in pools though. You don't get that when you are trying to frame you need to be looking through the viewfinder. And you can either turn around and see what is behind you and recompose, or take a blind step back and step on something or someone or just do this. i usually try to overshoot backwards but that means I end up crouched forward. besides you are not only trying to go back, you are trying to go down to level with the subject

It’s ok. I will continue job hunting but thank for the opportunity to destroy my mental health.
If you make it geometrically perfect, it probably would end up looking wrong. Sometimes minor corrections need to be introduced to make it look right despite it not being so. The same goes with fonds, if you make all the letters the exact same hight, some of them will apear too tall, as various optical illustions would skew what you perceive and you'd need to compensate for their effects. Even the ancient Greeks knew this, and if you measure their "perfect" temples, you'll see that a lot of what you perceive as straight lines actually have slight curves designed into them, so the overall effect seem more harmonic.
Aw, it's cute how the little graphic designers think that design choice wasn't the product of $2.7 million spent on psychology.
Is this real? This is an abomination!!! They are playing us, it’s the illuminati right here!
I had this interview. Told them outright I was not a graphic designer and if they really wanted that they would have to pay more and look for someone else. Same. My first website was done entirely in Notepad as a table-based layout because that's what colleges taught as the standard for web development. Within 1 year of graduating, CSS was being routed as the next big thing and the new foundation for web design standards. In other words, college was full of c**p and gave me 4 years of lots of bad direction because at some point after the web was invented, academia decided they would set the standards and there was no oversight to say "what are you doing?" Colleges and Universities do this all the time in all fields, so ask yourself, who made them the authorities on how certain things should be done? There are colleges offering new AI courses -- they've developed a curriculum for something that hasn't been a thing for a full year, yet they are taking your money and teaching "standards" for it. How? Why, this comment went off the rails...
