I've done sometime close to this in 1984. I put a stuffed soft pumpkin in my son shirt so he wouldn't crawl away . my older kids tied their 4-5 year younger feet together. This is funny in the early 80's ????

I remember vividly one night when my son would NOT settle. At about 3-4am, I gave up going back to bed and crashed just like this on the floor next to his cot. Way easier to get up from there which I did a couple of more times. I believe he finally settled into a deep sleep around 6am. Fortunately he was an only child at the time, so I was able to crash too.

I was a stay-at-home dad with both of my kids and my wife considered me to be good at it. I did not take offense at these photos. in fact, I often looked for pranks to do that would cause my wife to walk in the door and exclaim, "Oh my heavens what have you done now?" It's part of why the kids considered me a fun dad. They would often say, "Dad, let's show this to mom when she gets home. She'll freak out" (meant in a good way).

I had to do something like this when my daughter was around 3 or 4. She wanted to go to the fair, and of course my Mom decides we were all going. If I didn't have one similar to this she would have run off into the crowd and I would have been freaking out. She was not happy about being tetherd to me, and she kept trying to escape. This was 15 years ago and I got a lot of dirty looks, but I didn't give a damn, I was going to keep my child safe one way or another. She's 21, married and finishing up nursing school now. Eventually she will have kids of her own, and I will reminder her of that day. Large crowds can be dangerous places to some people, definitely for kids. I think those should be a mandatory gift for 3-4 year olds on their birthday.

I did this at an air show when my son was 1 -1/2. Worked great in that crowd. Also I took my granddaughters camping and my 7yr old granddaughter put leash on her 2yr old sister. Again it worked out great.

ACTUALLY, this is perfectly acceptable in my book - when my daughter was little (she's 16 now) I had a "leash" that would wrap around my wrist and the belt loop of her jeans. She could wander a few feet in the store or at a venue and not get lost or grabbed. Way to go!

My youngest always wanted out in the kennel to sleep with the dogs. He would drag his blanket and toys out to an open kennel and crawl in. When I went to the obedience trials, always had an extra crate for him when I was n the show ring. 2 "guard" dogs (Golden Retrievers) on either side. He loved It!! He's the youngest of my 5. Today, I'd be arrested for child abuse.

Please change the title and introductory paragraph, or next time, please be aware of this: My husband is an at-home dad and does a great job with our daughter. Everytime he sees a titletter like this one or text like the first paragraph, he feels like all dads are treated as incompetent. If we moms say or act like dads are incompetent, that means we have to do all the work. I don't know about you, but I am pretty busy working and being a mom as is. We need to treat dads with respect if we want them to be equal partners.

Highly agree. This stereotype in society that dad's are idiots has become ingrained in many female's minds. My boyfriend, who is an amazing father of three, has been criticized and treated as an idiot older brother by his ex-wife and especially in front of the kids. The kids still think he is an idiot and treat him with no respect. The media need to do a healthier portraying fathers. It's pissing me off badly. Thank you for standing up for fathers, LSweet. We don't get many women like you who do.

First one was funny...but if Bored Panda could stop with these "bad father" cliché it would be great. Yes they are fun individually but repeating them over and over again just makes the cliché stuck (and by extension the opposite cliché of the housewife who always keep her house tidy). Cheers. Very funny! They are not bad dads -- they are men who are creative, inventive and have a great sense of humor! The kids are safe. Men just do things differently - to balance what women tend to. Kids need both!
