“What If We Cared About Those Living In Poverty As Much As We Care About Celebrities?”

Simple: Celebrity worship keeps people hypnotized into believing that they too can and will be rich and/or famous someday INSTEAD of realizing that we all can have nice comfortable lives IF we taxed all the billionaires and millionaires out of existence! Call it whatever you want, but I don't care. I'm done seeing my fellow humans SUFFER while the Musks and Bezos of the world get richer and richer!

Perhaps I'm the odd one out but I just never could wrap my head around celebrity worship. Yes, I have celebrities whose work I thoroughly enjoy, however, I just never understood the need to follow a celebrity's every move in the media. "Stanning" and obsessing over celebrities always felt really creepy to me.

Same. Growing up my grandma always had the latest issues of celebrity magazines and I would flip through them being completely baffled as to why anyone cared about the things Jennifer Aniston was buying at the supermarket.

If this were real, and all over the media, I think it would really help. Too often, we don't do what we can because we close our eyes to it. We don't see the suffering people as individual people, and don't really acknowledge the problems. Putting a few people out there like this, I think we can relate better. Clara, who can't feed her child Daniel, is much more real than a bunch of statistics without faces.

There are stories like this on certain websites that have to be searched out, but people do not search them out. Algorithms determine top news stories by the volume of people clicking on the story. Sports stories and Entertainment stories top serious human interest stories. The people want to be ignorant, we feed our personal echo chamber.

That child could swallow the toy in that giant capsule that they can easily see. Won't someone please think of the children!? Meanwhile, so many innocent lives are ended far too earlier by gun violence and the damned United States does absolutely nothing about it. It's always the same old "thoughts and prayers". I feel that people have gotten so desensitized to gun violence and it it truly horrifying as it seems to happen almost every day. I truly wonder about this country as an expat working and living here...

It is indeed horrifying that there are enough politicians in office who disregard the majority wishes in spite of being elected representatives. There are others fighting back and they need our support, including the politicians that will genuinely represent the majority, and organizations like the one who took out the ad (Moms Demand Action).

While we all know the importance of great advertising, it seems to be one of those things that is easier said than done. Many billboards are simply passed by without being noticed at all, and plenty of ads on YouTube are skipped as soon as possible. But when an ad does stand out, you might want to snap a photo and share it online with fellow ad-enthusiasts. This subreddit, dedicated to “high quality images of advertisements,” has amassed an impressive 465k members over the last 12 years through sharing simply static images of brilliant ads.

We’ve also taken a trip to this subreddit, which is a bit smaller but shares a similar goal. “Only the most creative and mind-blowing marketing ideas and concepts belong here,” the group’s About Community states. And as it turns out, anything can be marketed in a fabulous way, from McDonald’s burgers to job opportunities to luxury cars. So whether you need an IKEA pillow or a reminder not to smoke cigarettes, you’re sure to find something on this list that will catch your eye.

It's entirely logical, sadly enough. It's money. The Saudis buy our weapons and sell us oil, so every time they want something, they just have to threaten to reduce the amount of oil they sell, or buy their fighter jets from China, and the U.S government rushes to fix it.

While advertising may seem simple to those of us who have only ever come across ads, rather than created them ourselves, it can actually be quite complex. According to Indeed, there are three main types of advertising: above the line, below the line and through the line. Above the line ads are not specifically targeted towards any group of people, but rather large, wide audiences. These include TV, radio and magazine ads which are sure to reach a wide variety of people.

Below the line ads have a target audience. These can include mailing lists, in-store ads and commercials created for specific programs where they’ll know their audience. And finally, through the line advertisements use a combination of both above and below the line techniques, often for brand-building campaigns. These are typically widely distributed and use cookies or digital data to give customers a personalized experience.

I don't think there should be any jokes or stupid art to be made about plastic in oceans and other waters. It's already in our bodies, believe it or not. It's already way too late. Every day, 100 trucks of plastic end up in the sea. The planet is going to the abyss and we are laughing stupidly and shouting 'ooh' and 'aah' over a drawn plastic bag in the sea. You can downvote this comment. That happens more often with comments that you can't laugh at but in which the facts are presented without humor.

In some parts of the U.K. Kingdom there is usually a small bag fee that you have to pay if you do not bring your own recyclable bag. I currently live and work in the U.S. as an expat and see more and more stores no longer providing plastic bags but instead having shoppers pay a very small fee for a paper bag if they don't have their own shopping bags.

Indeed notes that it’s important for companies to focus on creating great advertising because it increases sales, informs customers, helps introduce new products, informs advertisers about their own competition, retains customers, increases employee morale, differentiates brands, increases customer trust, can help reach target customers, and explains company values. As crucial as it is to provide excellent service and products as well, advertising cannot be overlooked. And to keep your company from being overlooked, ads must be geared to attracting customers’ attention. It can be helpful to use “bright colors, jingles, sketches or clever taglines,” Indeed recommends, but anything out of the ordinary might be a great choice.

Computer ownership in North Korea is so expensive relative to earnings and strictly controlled, with every one needing to be licenced and registered with the government, that hardly anyone is going to be able to read these anyway.

They don’t all need to have one. A lot of North Koreans gather together, in secret, to watch things. There is a thriving black market, and many already have what is necessary to use these drives. North Koreans have been watching things from the outside world for many, many years. This isn’t new.

A great ad not only captivates audiences but also advocates for a product. It can be helpful to detail why exactly this brand is superior to competitors and what the advantages are of supporting this company. Advertisers should also focus on their target audience, and establish a consistent image. “Identify your target audience by reviewing sales history or demographic information about your customers or by distributing customer surveys,” Indeed explains. “Then design advertising that appeals to them using research and focus groups.” Consistent colors, fonts, logos, etc. can also help your brand become instantly recognizable by your customers.

I visited the Bronx Zoo in July 1979 and this is the final section of the 'nocturnal animals' building where before you go to each new section, you can read the description of what you can view. The lighting is reversed so the animals are experiencing night time. You are separated by glass and have to be silent so as not to frighten them. It came as a real shock and I got goose bumps.

While it’s important for companies to pump energy and resources into great, creative ads, advertising is so powerful that it can have positive or negative effects. So companies must be wary of running any ads that will hurt their businesses. According to Amped, bad advertising can alienate your customer base, ruin your brand image and sometimes even lead to lawsuits. In fact, one third of Americans say they refuse to purchase from brands who have previously released bad advertisements, even if the ads were later changed or removed.

Charities shouldn't even have to exist. All good causes should be ring-fenced and given money to by governments so that they can all be funded sufficiently. "But money doesn't grow on trees!" No, most of it is just numbers on computers. We invented money. It has no value unless we say it does. Money can be created out of thin air.

One example of bad advertising that companies must steer clear of is false advertising. “This is when a business uses baseless, misleading, or dishonest content to market or promote products/services,” Amped explains. “No marketing team is perfect and mistakes can occur, but when paired with deliberate ignorance and possible intent to appear clever in the eyes of the public, the result is false advertising. Some advertisements miss the point by misleading their audience and in turn leaving a sour taste in the mouths of consumers. Over time, negative ads can lead to biases about brands by everyday people.”

Tabasco is not even that hot. In the grander scheme of hot sauces it's basically ketchup.

According to Inkbot Design, some of the best advertising campaigns of all time include Nike’s “Just Do It,” Coca-Cola’s “Share a Coke,” and Dos Equis’ “The Most Interesting Man In The World.” It’s likely you can already picture these taglines or ads in your mind, as they were, and maybe still are, seemingly everywhere. They were simple, catchy, clever and encouraged people to quote them to keep the conversation going. They’re feel good ads that make customers want to support these companies, and they’ve been massively successful.

Ok. Here's the scoop: in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger, there was a scene in a city with a lot of ads on the buildings. And there was a Corona beer ad kinda sorta in front of this ad in the same shot. People mistook the pasta firework for a picture of a virus and freaked out about it, saying that it all was planned/predicted. Cause, yk, Corona. Virus. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/captain-america-coronavirus-pandemic/

I remember seeing a video about this. Someone saw it in the background of a video before The Plauge and the distance made it look strangely like one piece of virus. So the person did digging to figure out what the billboard was. And it was pasta! But from a distance, it looked like Covid.

For decades, Eskom did not maintain equipment, allowing it to deteriorate. Money apparently was routinely siphoned off into private pockets. The government did nothing, as maybe some of them were also 'benefactors'. The whole top management level should have been fired, charged with fraud, theft, and their personal assets frozen and confiscated to finance improvements.

It might help some people to fly the paper airplane right back into police headquarters with this message scrawled on it: "In this neighborhood, we have our windows open at night because it's the only way we can cool out homes in the summer, as we can't afford air conditioning. We'd rather be robbed than die. How many air conditioners could have this advertising campaign paid for, I wonder?"

If anyone throws anything through an open window in my home, they better not announce who they are. This is rude and inconsiderate. How do they know my window is not open because I’m painting? What if I burned the roast and need to air the house out? What if it’s a gorgeous day outside and I want to air out my home for the first time in months? Don’t throw garbage through my window because you think you can.

I will always be grateful to the primary school teacher who picked up on my son's autism, we were new parents and had no idea his behaviour was not normal for his age. Once we knew what was going on we were all (him included) so much better able to deal with it and make the right choices. Thank you Mrs Roberts!

Yessss! If you know that someone in your family has autism and you're child is showing any of the symptoms (even the more uncommon ones) it's an awesome idea to look into getting them tested. Growing up undiagnosed is not fun

17 and only this year my mom is going to look for help for me. Im not challenged educationally, but time management wise. She never looked for help not because she didnt care, but because it was still hard to get diagnosed. So while i see young baby boys being diagnosed with autism. Many girls young and old are still waiting.

Same for me. Only recently I did a test (I would say I have social anxiety) and finally they said I didn't have autism. The test was a bit ridiculous (they asked me to talk to them when the reason I'm there is exactly that) and it was on a zoom call. All that just cause I wanted a psychologist or something like that. And because I'm not autistic I dont have access to ressources.

Mental health awareness, in itself, is making these issues a part of our daily speech. I grew up in an era where autism, ADHD, depression, bi-polar, PTSD, and anxiety didn't exist. We were deemed juvenile delinquents and punished for our behaviors. MH awareness is one of the few progressive advances that younger generations can benefit from.

Just found out I am high functioning autistic (neurodivergent), when I tried to get my severe allergies taken care of. Only to find out my very physical symptoms are stress related from forcing myself to work around my issues instead of working with them. Really hoping its not an auto immune disorder.

Years and years ago, I spent a summer attending raves and taking…substances. But at every rave, there was a booth set up where you could have your pills tested. Knowing what I know now, I hope this is still offered. This was in the USA, Michigan to be exact. Stay safe everyone!

I had a friend who bragged about riding his junked motorcycle off a pier into the ocean. He thought it was cool, "just like in the movies" he said. He got angry when I mentioned the gasoline, oil, plastics, etc. that he had just dumped in the ocean right by where I used to fish. People can be so stupid. I no longer speak to him.

Rich people don't care about that. What the water companies need to do is put a limit on how many gallons a household can use in one day and then shut it off. During the CA drought, all the rich a$$holes were filling their pools, running their fountains and watering their vast properties. They'd go though 100,000 gallons a day. That should not be possible, it should have been cut off at a certain point. But if you have the money, as it stands, the rules don't apply to you.

Yeah, when I still smoked, I would have bought these just to show off the gimmick to anyone and everyone, it would not have stopped me from smoking at all. The sad fact is, financial necessity is the only thing that stopped me. They taxed cigs to over $10 per pack and that was way too expensive to sustain a habit, so I switched to Juul (much cheaper, "safer") which they basically panic regulated out of existence in my state. I had to quit, but never really wanted to.

"The first step of the marketing campaign was putting up the billboard that showed six jumbo muffins with the Bloom Supermarket logo. Next a junker Kia automobile was casually parked underneath the billboard. It looked authentic, with a For Sale sign, $1000 price tag and a phone number. The number, unbeknownst to viewers, rang at the advertising agency. The billboard company let drivers get used to the billboard and car combo for 10 days. Then came the denouement. At 3 in the morning, a crew came by to crush the Kia using a wrecking ball." - "They bolted a giant muffin on the car’s roof to make it look like the muffin fell off the billboard and onto the car. The agency got hundreds of calls from commuters to tell them that the car was crushed by a falling muffin. Local media played up the story. It even helped sales at a nearby gas station, where people bought disposable cameras to get a picture."

For Harry Potter, the first 3 books are slim (for younger readers) and the films are pretty close to verbatim, 4th book the film misses some stuff and from book 5 (Order of the Phoenix) the films are missing loads, I'd say 50% or more!

the third movie misses loads when you consider it just completely removes the entire backstory to the marauders.

When I was a senior in high school I took AP English and Drama. At one point, we did 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' in both classes at the same time. It was amusing to have the teachers say that their respective genres did it better!

My mom, who will be 90 this year, prior to be told she couldn't donate due to her age, she had been given an award for being a ten gallon blood donor. As regular has someone would make a haircut appointment, my mom had her next donation appointment set before leaving the building she just donated at. Some areas, countries, allow payment for donations, where she lives did not allow payment. She truly gave from her heart until they told her she was no longer allowed to donate due to her age.

Nor me! If you’ve ever had chronic fatigue, you can’t donate in the UK, I just found out about that. Which made me laugh as so many health professionals don’t take it seriously, but it’s serious enough for the blood banks not to want you, even if there’s a shortage. So what’s different about the blood of people with chronic fatigue….?

If you need another reason, I've heard that people who donate blood regularly live longer, healthier lives. It reduces "oxidative stress." Basically, you get that old, nasty, rusty iron out of your body and make new blood.

A German magazine once went to "the worst" hotel in a southern tourist hotspot. They were curious and it turned out to be a decent, clean place but just without all the extras and amenities all the surrounding 4 and 5 star palaces offered. A friend of mine who needs to travel a lot for business changed to prefer 2-star hotels, because when choosing the right one, a lot of them turned out to offer what is necessary: A quiet place, good bed and solid breakfast for a fair price.

Tom is texting his pal Dave to ask Dave to make a poster displaying the upcoming musical events at Tom's club/theater venue. Dave is a sassy little shít and asks Tom for the relevant dates and names of the bands performing. Dave then simply screenshots the text conversation, and uses the SCREENSHOT as the poster instead of MAKING a poster XD As Tom's texts to him contain all the relevant info anyway: the dates and names of the performers.

Best way to stop this type of dangerous behavior is to go after the CEOs demanding we work long hours for little pay. I guarantee this danger will become a rarity overnight. Ashley Bushaw

99% of porn sets unrealistic standards and is made strictly for the male gaze. It features professionals who perform acts that men will then expect from their partners, rather than having organic interactions that result from real intimacy. Porn is also very desensitizing. Men will often need to watch increasingly hardcore/kinky content to achieve the same arousal. This means that "vanilla" sex with an actual woman won't be enough to get them off. And the same can happen as a result of being overexposed to women with "perfect", nearly hairless bodies. There's also ethical concerns about how women are treated in porn. Yes, they are (usually) consenting adults who are being paid, but they are still subject to rough handling and they are still just *acting*. It's a job for them, it's not a great time. Knowing this, I wonder how men can possibly enjoy watching a woman pretend to like being slapped around, choked, etc. Even if it's not that rough, why watch someone who's faking it?

Little censorship rant. So in Louisiana now for certain sites like Pornhub and some others that have been flagged you need to do age verification. But not the usual click if you are over 18 BS, through a system that scans your ID. This is done through LA wallet, a program where you can store ID, Vax cards, insurance, etc. But you can’t use it with an out of state ID! So if you live in LA and have an out of state ID you can’t access pornhub from an in state IP address. At least that’s what my friend told me.

It is true. When you sleep, you don't smell anything and that makes the fire even scarier. I live in an apartment building and my neighbor fell asleep drunk while cooking and I woke up to the firemen breaking down the neighbor's front door and the first thing I wondered was why everywhere smells like burnt toast. a smoke alarm would have been cheaper than a new door.

My hubby is a retired family firefighter and this is true. He says the only tv show/ movie that shows firefighting and paramedics pretty accurately is like 50 years old - Emergency! . It ran in the US from 1972 to 77. It's still on in syndication now. I watched it as a kid and still love it today in my mid/late 50s! He really despised Backdraft, and there a commercial for a show out now that makes him cringe. It's some young firefighter guy being asked his long he's been a firefighter and he answers "since the day I was born". So dumb and cheesy .

I'm worried that the ad would reach less people since I feel like not everyone will read that much text, especially so small and in somewhat difficult to read handwriting.

The destinations are positioned as Norway are looking “down” if you turn it upside down the flag picture you would view it as the representation of the earth. Norway is North hence the “looking down”

Believe me when I say we (doctors) won't harvest your organs while you're still alive. You have to be very very braindead, diagnosed by two different doctors, to even be considered as an organ donor. And when you're braindead there s 0,00% chance of you 'waking up' again

TBH I don't ever film at that resolution because a few minutes generates a gig of data, which is (a) not possible to send or post on social media and (b) chews hard disk space, for no point. Unless you're making a hollywood blockbuster there's zero reason to go over 1k. You do not need a 200GB video of your kid's birthday party. Speaking as an IT person who has to back this c**p up for people.

Sadly even after quitting there are - depending on time and dose- irreparable damages to one's lungs and airways that elevate your risk of getting lung cancer. The less you smoke the less risk, but it's still higher than in non-smokers

Cigarettes are the biggest cause of lung cancer, but they're not the only one. Genetics, previous lung diseases, many chemicals, air pollution...the list goes in. And even though it's comforting, in a strange way, to be able to pin cancer on some tangible cause; in many cases, it's just a totally random mutation with no rhyme or reason. I'm sorry for your loss ♥️

Yes, I do like to eat meat. A whole roasted chicken is delicious. But I never go to this place with this hype of a huge bucket of chicken wings. Count the wings, divide by two and you get the number of chickens that had to hatch and grow up to produce these wings. I cannot deal with the billions of chickens necessary to fill these buckets.

As a medical professional, it is my belief that waiting for any reason before getting checked for disease is a terrible idea. A cardiovascular ultrasound work up will show the very early signs of a whole range of issues long before they are a danger. Checking your carotids AFTER a stroke does no good! Checking your heart AFTER a major cardiac arrest is worthless! Looking for blood clots in the legs AFTER a pulmonary embolism is idiotic!

It's not a coincidence that middle america votes republican for a 10th glorious year of total law enforcement, whilst the coast with its cultural melting pot votes democrat for tolerance. (and this is true of all insular nations)

Not everyone can afford to travel overseas. And maybe those who do very often should consider spending a little less and giving a little more to those in need. (I mean people who do so just for pleasure, not those with family overseas or jobs involving travel.)

Sharpie fine-tips are my go-to inking pens for drawing! I'm a lefty, so I tend to smudge inks that don't dry quickly, and Sharpies dry almost instantly. Plus the lines are crisp and don't bleed much. If I don't need lines that are super-thin (for which I'd use Microns), I'm actually quite fond of using Sharpies for my art!

This is a UK McDonalds ad, not an American McDonalds ad (hence the use of the word "gherkin" instead of "pickle".) Perhaps they made a choice to leave out the onions in the ad, or perhaps the ingredients are slightly different in the UK.

pickles != gherkins. Gherkin = picked cucumber. You also get pickled: olives, herring, onions, garlic, turnip, chili, etc.

You're not wrong, but where I live "pickle" is synonymous with "pickled cucumber". I once ordered a sandwich with "pickled peppers", and the worker was seriously confused by my use of the word "pickled" instead of calling them "pepperoncini" or just "peppers". (edit: And most people here probably wouldn't know what a gherkin is either.)

If someone wants to diet, lose weight, be healthier, and have a overall better feeling about themselves, how could that offend you? Just because you don't like something, that doesn't make it offensive. I don't like Panera, but I would never think to throw the word "offensive" when I drive past one. If you don't like something, move along and carry on, they didn't create Weight Watchers in 1963 only to hope to offend you 60 years later.

It's a bit hinky, true. I'd prefer it if it said "Nothing wakes you up as does Nescafe" or "Nothing wakes you up as Nescafe does" instead. In purely literal form, it's not incorrect - think of the sentence, "Nothing smells as bad as garbage" - it does make sense. But it sounds a bit off and I think they'd have been better served by sticking the word "does" in there XD

For those wondering, this is an advertisement that speaks to the aerodynamic design of the Tatra (the car on the bottom) vs. a competitor's less-aerodynamic car on the top :) The TATRA logo at the very top shows the "streamlines" that split and flow around the "airfoil" shape of the logo itself (similar to how a plane's wing shape works.)

Either that's one humongous cup of coffee or one miniscule notebook. You decide

While I appreciate the artistic sentiment behind this particular ad, I have a weird sensitivity/taboo in regards to my eyes. The coffee cup handle pushing up on the guy's eyelid, tenting it unnaturally and causing the eyelid to "stretch" off of the eyeball itself, makes me want to scream XD

Yeah, they might be implying that you could wear these on airplanes/public transport and get relief from other peoples' screaming children/babies, but the implication I get from the visuals is that this parent is wearing them and ignoring her OWN screaming babies :/

So today's earworm was provided by Outcast. Thanks for this brain. There would be much more important things to remember than all the songs that live in my head without paying the rent.

This is nicked from an 8-month-old Reddit post. I don't think HBO had announced their rebranding from HBO Max to just Max at that point, had they?

Saw the Blue Man Group in Vegas many years ago. They came out to the lobby for photos with the audience after the show. I very shyly approached one of them with some paper and asked if I could have an autograph, expecting the guy to scribble on the paper with a blue marker. Instead, he KISSED the paper, leaving a BLUE "kiss" print as the "autograph" (from the facepaint)! XD Very special and hilarious experience.

It's an hourglass figure. How is this a weird body shape? It's a natural shape that some women have.

This ad for the 2nd Lego movie is 1:44:17 long because it shows the trailer for Lego 2, and then plays the first Lego movie - all in the same ad :)
