There are units, and then there are absolute units. If the latter doesn’t ring a bell, it may be because the odd-sounding term comes from internet culture, where people use it to refer to a large, round animal or object.
It’s a descriptive meme in the family of “smol bean” or “beautiful cinnamon roll,” and you can totally feel somewhat of an affectionate feel about it.
But in order to get to the essence of what being an absolute unit entails, one has to see a real example of it. So Bored Panda has compiled a list full of the absolutest of the units for you to feast on right below, and make sure you check out part 1 right here.

There's a place in Alberta called Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. It's MUCH more realistic than the movies. A group would start a small grass fire and herd the bison towards a cliff. At the bottom, they were butchered and the meat and hides distributed.

Oh... god, I actually knew that some horses hav this color transition (it's the reason white horses are called "grey" in English) but it never occurred to me that this is just like the normal course with humans... funny thing, with horses it's "special" and gorgeous and with humans it's just old and boring.

Seeing some misinformation here... Not ALL black horses transition to grey. There are many black horses of many breeds that stay black. And not all horses that grey out as they age are born black, either. They can be born many colors and end up nearly white as get old. My own horse was a bay when she was born, which means brown with black mane and tail. She is now 15 and nearly looks white. It's all about genetics. The tail is NOT tied up, at least on the first horse (can't tell on the second). The first horse has a docked tail, meaning the tail bone was cut very short. Yes, the tail BONE was cut off leaving a very short nub of a tail bone. Because of this, the hair can no longer grow very long. It is done to keep their tails from getting tangled in harness, however, it is a very controversial practice these days.
The first “absolute unit” meme was born on December 13, 2017, when a Twitter user named @mrreptoid wrote, “In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute unit,” with regards to a photo of British hotelier David Morgan-Hewitt standing next to the Queen of England. Mr. Morgan-Hewitt is a very large lad, indeed.
But it really took off in 2018, with the Museum of English Rural Life tweeting a photograph of ram with a caption “Look at this absolute unit.” Adam Koszary, the museum’s manager who wrote the tweet, amassed 98k likes and more than 27k retweets in the next couple of days.

amen to that. I am ashamed to admit that on our family vacation to South Dakota / Mt Rushmore / badlands we came upon a group of bison and I got out to snap some photos... I thought I was at a reasonable distance but the park service thought differently and pulled their vehicle between me and the bison. So I was THAT guy.

Actually the loudest animal underwater is a shrimp, because they create a specific sound that creates a white out for a submarine, so that you can't hear anything above the water if you're underneath and you can't hear anything underwater if you're above it, it's pretty cool,

I know how you feel. Lost my sweet little Yorkie Jenna to epileptic and brain issues. She was just 7 years old. Usually our Yorkies make it to over 15 years. I am still devastated and miss her so much. She did send another little angel Yorkie to us after looking for 2 years. The hole in your heart will always be there, but another little canine person will help it heal. <3

Generally the bigger the dog the shorter their lifespan. I am on my second Miniature Fox Terrier now and she is nearly 6 years old. The first one was 18 when she finally died of a heart attack in my arms in 2016. I still miss her to bits and always will!

You're not seeing things. That leads me to believe it's a good Photoshop. The top half of her appears shrunken. Compare the size of her hands and her face in the picture on the left. Normal. Now compare them in the photo on the right. Not remotely normal.

What a lot of the commenters here don't understand is that this is his muscles all tensed up to their maximum extent. Relaxed, his legs probably don't look that far from normal - large, but normal. To get this look you exercise them hard then tighten everything - note the stance - and hold it for the picture. Since this is showing enlarged opposing muscles he couldn't even take a step and maintain this appearance. Impressive as anything, but not gross, deformed, or unnatural.

I used to live by the General Mills grain elevators on the Buffalo Harbor. The rats would eat so much spilled grain cereal that they would become as big or bigger than house cats. Watching these mammoths jumping into the river was rather funny but also upsetting because of the insane size.

Ah, the triplex. Highly specialized, and only barely commercially successful for a single railroad. Ultimately it made more sense to use multiple locomotives than a single compound unit, which is the same system in use today.

Sorry, but no. The Northern Pacific Yellowstone was the largest ever built. It was similar in size to the Big Boy, but it weighed 20 tons more and predated the BB by about 14 years.

That is debatable! The Baldwin 2-8-8-4 Yellowstones did have greater adhesive weight and tractive effort, but they fell short in all other measurements of "size" (length, overall weight, fuel capacity, drive wheel diameter, firebox area and boiler pressure). Regardless of technical specifics, it is undoubtedly the largest operating steam locomotive in the world (which is how it is usually referred to).

I used to keep garden snails as pets when I was a kid! We found some pretty black and white stripy ones when we were on a woodland walk one time and brought them home. That was about 30 years ago and now they are all over the garden along with the brown ones that were already there :)

They make sweet sounds, and when you see them is close their eye ring is interesting. I assume your comparing to a European Robin of some sort? Do they migrate? Part of the reason we like our Robin's is we only see them in the warmer months (at least, in the northern us). People get excited about the first one they see, because it means spring is about here.

This is a Sony DiscExplorer 400, a 400-disc changer. I took a smaller one of these apart years ago, the mechanism isn't really that complicated, you could technically make one with as large a capacity as you had space for.

I have deduced that "unit" now means large or oversized. But is it just a coincidence everyone is using the same adjective "absolute"...or is the full term "absolute unit"? Language is changing so fast...I am Gen X, and "unit" use to mean something very different, and it was not always large.
