People Are Sharing Stories About Their Coworkers Getting Fired Almost Immediately, And Here Are 35 Of The Most Interesting Ones
Interview With AuthorFinding a dream job that you thoroughly love is one thing, but keeping it… keeping it is a whole other challenge entirely. Just because you’ve passed all the interviews, signed the contract, and already introduced yourself to all the guys and gals at the watercooler doesn’t mean that you’ll necessarily be around for long. Sometimes, people do the most gosh darn stupid things and end up getting fired at the drop of a hat.
Redditor r/njaana asked their fellow r/AskReddit users to open up about the fastest that they’ve ever seen a new coworker get fired and, wow, did they deliver! Their stories are candid, hilarious, and will make you consider the wonderful fact that the global economy is still intact when there are so many ‘employees’ like this moving from job to job.
When you’re done scrolling down and reading the stories, don’t forget to give the ones that caught your attention the most an upvote. Be sure to let everyone know which ones had you laughing and cringing the hardest and share your own experiences about fresh-faced but inadequate colleagues in the comments.
Redditor u/njaana, the author of the thread, shared with Bored Panda the inspiration behind their question and also went into detail about the reality of the job industry in India and how unfair things can be. Scroll down to read what they had to say.

I worked at a bill collection firm in the early '90s (don't judge me). A guy started working there, went through the two days of training, and then started working. After about an hour, he got up and left. Didn't say, 'I quit.' Didn't say, 'this job isn't for me.' He just got up to go to the bathroom, went through the front door, and drove away. It took the managers a few hours to figure out that this guy had gotten the job with a fake name, and erased his own debt on the computer.
He should have covered his tracks by making a lot of others dept free.
Load More Replies...If he’d had more follow through he may never have been caught. Should have stayed for a couple of months.
I kinda wish more people would do that for more people, especially with crippling medical debts.
He shd have engineered a more natural exit. All that prior efforts wasted!
It isn't so simple to just erase your debts. These things have redundancies and audit trails. And those redundancies have their own audit trails. Now he is also on the hook for criminal charges.
Depends on how long ago this was. Amazing how many companies didn't have security or back up systems in place.
Load More Replies...Good plan. He still should have stayed a bit longer to avoid suspicion and the immediate investigation. Maybe he was afraid of being caught. But finishing the day then formally quiting would have been perfec
Not really, if he stayed a little longer (and maybe did the same for others) it would probably have gone unnoticed.

He slept with the boss's daughters — yes, daughters — the night he got hired. The real twist was that one of those daughters is now his wife, and his former boss is his mother-in-law. So, I guess he got the last laugh, and a lot of awkward family dinners.
There must be a cloud of cringe hovering over the Thanksgiving table.
If the daughter is not underage, how is this a stackable offence? He could have easily taken the company to court for unfair dismissal.
If the daughters in question also worked at the company it could have been spun as an anti-fraternization thing. It's still dodgy but they could make it stick.
Load More Replies...I wouldn't want to be in the same room with this family. I mean, the awkwardness and animosity vibes is filling the air.
I wonder if the person who hired him got in trouble. I hope not. They certainly can't see that coming lol.
I worked at a fast-food restaurant. The new guy came in for his first shift, which was an evening shift in the drive-thru. He literally posted where he was and what he was doing on social media, and told all of his buddies to come through for free food. He then started screwing up orders on purpose, and handed his friends free stuff. The manager called the police and he got arrested.
According to this thread, corporate misbehavior is merely fire-able while fast food misdeeds require police
You have a point, but depends on the situation.. fast food is better than no food.. Edit: I don't understand why people keep downvoting you, you have a fair point.

The author of the viral thread, u/njaana, said that they'd seen a lot of TV shows where people got fired for doing stupid things. Naturally, they wanted to check if there's some truth to that or if it was all made up for entertainment purposes. We'd say they got their answer! Sometimes, fact is stranger than fiction. According to the redditor, the core reason why people act this way and get immediately fired is their lack of maturity. Meanwhile, they shared that the very worst thing they've seen their coworkers doing is sleeping on the job.
The redditor explained that in India, the locals really value their jobs because getting them is a challenge. They also mentioned that the system is very unfair, with people ruthlessly vying for government jobs that offer job stability. "I am not from the U.S or a developed nation, I am from India. Here, people really value a job as it's hard to get even if you have the required qualification due to the large population, so people are more inclined towards government jobs because it has job security and other benefits and the chances of getting fired from it are very low," they told Bored Panda.
We had a new IT hire. It was his first full-time job, he had good qualifications, and seemed okay. His first night, staff called me. He was spamming women with messages on their private phones. One woman's husband called me, saying her phone's camera was on nonstop and wouldn't turn off. He also installed software to switch on their cameras remotely. On day one. He wasn't allowed back on the premises.
Not allowed back on the premises? That's the minimum. This guy should have been reported and criminal charges pressed.
In fairness that might be the extent of knowledge submitter has in the matter.

This is one problem with internal IT generally. There are too many technically capable people, minus the accountability. If I did that with my clients, I will be facing lawsuits and very likely jail time.
That's changing as companies realize the threat from internal IT. See Edward Snowden.

Boss hired a vegan to work in the cafe were we do coffee and mainly breakfast food. So lots of eggs, cheese and meats and you know, milk. She refused to touch anything with animal products and lasted about 15 minutes. Not sure how she survived the interview process and didn't pick up on the use of milk in coffee drinks or what breakfast food had in it.
i'm vegan, and i find that vegan behavior silly. once the animal is dead there's no reason for a vegan not to work in the chain
I‘m even fine with a vegan not wanting to work there. If you do not wish to work with any kind of animal products, I respect that. What I do not get is what she thought was going to happen. Did she think the café would switch to a vegan only menu for her? :/
Load More Replies...These are the vegans that are giving the nice vegans a bad name and make the non-vegans roll their eyes at every mention of the word :/
My ex SO (LDR) was vegan and she'd still cook me a steak when I visited her, cause she knew she'd make me happy after a 5h+ drive. The rest of the weekend I'd eat vegan with her to make her happy. She had other flaws (and I did, too), but in my opinion, she was the "perfect vegan".
Load More Replies...This kind of pointless fanaticism can ruin even the most noble thing. No one was forcing her to eat those things, after all.
Nobody forced her into the job either....she applied knowing full well what kind of place it was.
Load More Replies...I bet she was one of those militant vegans who thought they could change the menu by just being there
I refuse to touch anything with animal products. I'm not going round prodding things with a hotdog.
Now I would kind of like to see a vid of someone just going around interacting with the world using a hotdog.
Load More Replies...A lot of deadbeats go to interviews just to have something to write down on their unemployment insurance papers. Got to at least look like they are job searching.
Being vegan is dumb. "I'm so ignorant I can't eat properly, let alone keep a job!"
We had a guy start in London on a Monday, and he left for a a conference in Seattle later that week. I met him at Heathrow with his badge and laptop on his first morning, and boarded the flight with him. Longish story, but he ended up slapping a member of the flight crew because she wouldn’t let him sit in business class. I called HR when we landed and fired him in baggage claim. We paid for him to fly back to the UK next day.
A close relative of mine is an airline pilot. They have had several occasions of people resisting crew instructions considering mask policy, some even turning physically violent against the crew, and a few being welcomed by police on arrival, taken away in cuffs. That's gonna be f*cking expensive for half an hour "I'm not wearing a mask, screw you!"
Load More Replies...Self-entitlement is strong on this one. What a brat! He deserves to get fired. I hope the flight crew on his flight back were warned, should he pull the same stunt. My question is, doesn't the flight crew have the right to arrest a passenger (or passengers), during a flight who committed a crime? Clearly, this sap assaulted one of the crew and they should've cuffed him, then notify the police.
Well, not really arrest him, just tape him to the seat.

"Government employees can do whatever they want and most of them treat tax-paying citizens [badly]. We, the people of India, don't have any idea of our rights, we fear police who are supposed to protect us, the police are corrupt here, they often take bribes and break laws, and use their position for personal vendetta," they went into detail about the harsh reality of everyday life in India.
"It's true in the case of most government employees, they are rude and don't do any work properly. In my country, only people with power and money are treated as citizens and it's horrible, so I wanted to know how was the situation in other countries, that's why I really made the post to know if what was portrayed in the TV shows was true."
I used to train new hires at a warehouse. We have a floor for robots to zoom around on, full of merchandise, and cold spite. Only certified technicians could set foot on that floor. The rest of us? Instant termination if we did it. We stressed this frequently throughout orientation. I was training a group of new hires at a work station on their first night. One of our managers came over to introduce himself. One guy, who had already been copping an attitude, asked him about stepping on the floor. The manager reiterated what we told everyone: Do it, and you're fired. The guy said, 'You mean don't do this?' And put one foot on the floor. Away he went. I heard the rest of the new trainees laughing over how stupid he was. He was even whining about it the whole time his termination was being processed.
Probably mummy and daddy's little prince. Does not transition well to the real world.
Load More Replies...Some people have this weird idea that breaking rules or espousing unpopular/controversial opinions somehow makes them look "cool", "hip" or "edgy".
I read it as cold sprite…just riding around on a robot on a hot summers day with a nice cold sprite
Maybe that's why they couldn't go on the floor. They didn't want the other employees to see how much fun they're all having up there with their cold drinks and fun robots.

On her first morning, she wrote an email to her manager about how grateful she was to be with the company, how she looked forward to working for us, etc. She also wrote an email to her friend about how she'd got a cushy gig, and would scam them for as much training as possible for the first couple of months, and then leave. Apart from the general lack of wisdom of saying this on the company email system, when writing such contradictory emails, it's vitally important to put the right addressee on the right email. She walked out the door after two-and-a-half hours.
That's how all Bond villains end up badly: they start explaining their detailed plan to James.
That's the case for most fictional villains. In real life though.... it'd take someone who's either not in their right mind or just really not thinking the whole "getting away with it" thing through.
Load More Replies...I never understood such shortsightedness. You get trained and you get practical experience. Why the need to do this? Because of people like this, companies are reluctant to spend on trainings without some kind of bond.
Do not use company email for personal emails. I learned that the hard way.
I hate to say this, but don't get your hopes up. They would probably learn for a second, then turn around and sneeze - there it goes - completely forgotten.

I've done way too much doc review on large cases. Business emails should always be professional, clear and straightforward. Snark, humor, emojis, inside jokes can be taken the wrong way. No personal info *ever*. Before you press send imagine your email being posted on a billboard outside your office, outside your parents' window. It can save you from being called as a witness at worse, or it can save your pride as CEO at least knowing that when you meet with the group of 100+ attorneys reviewing your docs, all of us are silently snickering because we have all read the three years worth of emails between you and your lover talking about all your kink and your plan to screw over your spouses. Doc review is long, boring, underpaid work so we take our jollies where we can.
Many years ago, we hired a line cook that had a decent amount of experience. He started on steak night. The first steak was undercooked. Re-fire, undercooked. On his third try, undercooked. Fourth try, the cow was still mooing when it came off the grill. The front of house manager goes to head chef and tells him to kick the cook off the line, so he does. His new job was to replace me on the sauté station. The first order he got there was for a side of asparagus, so he put the asparagus into the hot pan and added enough oil to deep-fry them. He turned on the stove. Oil escaped and hit the flame, and started a fire. He went to grab water, and if not for my head chef stealing the cup, we might've had a bigger fire. Just like that, gone. It turned out, all of his previous jobs were real places, but his supervisors were just friends who lied. Total time of employment: three hours.
That nitwit could have burned the place down. Why not let the new chef cook something before hiring?
Most restaurants actually do that - it's usually the omlette test!

Every adult is one side, but a professional COOK!?!? /edit: I mean, you're right, but people are dumb. This individual has been specifically trained for working in the kitchen, so he should have known for certain.
Load More Replies...You keep a steak on the fire til the juice appears on the top side, than you turn the meat. About 3 minutes each side; after, you let it rest, well covered with another plate.
There are so many different way of doing it. If you serve me a steak cooked as you suggested, I would send it back for being undercooked.
Load More Replies...Did the person posting mean the guys previous places were NOT real places? I re-read like 3 times and saw 'were real places'. Because his friends lied, that's why I asked.
I think it translates to "we thought that *every *part of his job history was made, but it turned out the places were actually real, the lie was that the supervisors he listed were actually his friends and not truthful about his skills". (Though I can't tell how much of the friends' stories were lies - if they were actually supervisors there or were just listed as supervisors on the resume, if the guy had actually worked at these places or not - all combinations are possible)

This isn’t the first time that Bored Panda has written about new co-workers getting fired: it’s a popular topic on Reddit. Here’s an article that we put together on the topic earlier in case this list hasn’t fully sated your hunger for workplace drama.
It’s fairly obvious that you shouldn’t come to work drunk, hungover, or worse for wear. However, some people think that such obvious rules don’t apply to them, hence all the stories on Reddit about new co-workers getting fired quicker than the ink on their hiring paperwork had the time to dry.
A large part of a new colleague’s initial success comes from finding a balance between being ambitious and energetic, as well as humble and keen to learn. Starting a new job means learning how all the processes work, who your coworkers are, what’s expected of you, and what the greatest challenges you’ll face are.
On the first day of a new daycare hire, she spanked a child.
I used to be a daycare worker. Spanking is never the answer, but I tell you. Time out does not work. And a lot of these kids (at least the ones I had) are not getting discipline at home.) Parents believe whatever their little angel tells them and let them get away with murder. The frustration and burn out level is high with these workers. I had a friend coworker that once told a parent. "I tell you what, you don't believe everything your child says about me and I won't believe everything they say about you!"
Time out has always worked with my children, wow
Load More Replies...I will NEVER understand how any adult can sleep at night after hitting a child. Wow how big and brave of you to physically strike a child because they don't do as you say. It's absolutely disgusting and just shows a sheer lack of control over your own emotions. The epitome of weakness. Oh, and I have three children. Rather than losing control of yourself, take a breath or leave the situation for a minute until your calm enough to not inflict physical violence on someone who knows no better yet and can't regulate their emotions. You as an adult do or at least should know better and you sure as hell should be able to control yourself! Imagine if someone you love gave you a whack for not doing as you were told?! There is no excuse good enough to justify such archaic punishment. The adult will always be at fault, not the child.
Excuse you, I was spanked and I 100% remember it. Taught me to lie when I did something wrong to protect myself, because my parents chose physical punishment instead of talking it out and understanding why I, an undeveloped literal CHILD, might have misunderstood the rules. They could have taught me to understand their side too but they chose to cause physical pain instead. So maybe be careful how you condone hitting children to make them learn, there’s not a single scientific study that supports this and hundreds that debunk its effectiveness.

A new employee showed up to work early on her first day to eat. We worked at sub restaurant, and she came in with a competitor's stub and started eating in the lobby while in uniform. The boss nicely asked her to eat in the back so customers wouldn't see. She started screaming and throwing a fit, so the boss told her to leave and not come back. I'm not sure if you can really even say she got fired...she never clocked in once.
Early '90's, in my hometown, big event, the inauguration of the Coca-Cola factory (during the communist regime we had no coke). Special guest, a big guy from Atlanta, John I Don't Remember His Name. it must be just this manager. There's a lot of fast food around my town. You very often see McD workers in Burger King, Burger King in KFC,, KFC in Arbys etc.
It's one thing to go visit another restaurant, it's another to bring it back to your own and eat it in front of customers. I worked in a bar that served mostly Subway style food. We also had an amazing old deli nearby. They had great food so we had to eat where the lunch customers couldn't see us.

guy drove a forklift into a fire hydrant, in front of a safety rep for the company. His supervisor was called over, and he immediately tells the supervisor that he won’t pass a piss test, as he used his only bottle of clean piss earlier that day when he hired in.
Everybody standing there immediately burst into laughter, which continued as security (also laughing) escorted him off site. Even the supervisor was all smiles...just gave him a pat on the back and wished him the best of luck. It was wild.
Well, I guess that's one way to think about it after lying the first time...when it counted.

They have really strict standards for the gas engineers and one of their health and safety officers thought it would be a good idea if the archaeologists followed the same rules. My supervisor had to quietly take him aside and explain that if they made the archaeologists take drug tests he'd lose 3/4ths of his workforce and the pipeline would never get built in time.
Basically, he needed his first paycheck to buy some more clean urine. You just know he wouldn’t be careful about his sources, and that there was, inevitably, going to be a future piss test where his sample would show that he was pregnant.
Sounds awfully a lot like someone that i know. Was fired from forklift for being under influence. After one week from this incident he stated that he applied for a job at the airport, ground staff... you know, job that requires driving those little cart vehicles and being super responsible guiding aircrafts to parking areas :D thought i piss from laughter, good luck passing security test
I have a "friend" who took a full time seasonal job where her mom worked. Money was decent, everyone liked her, well almost. Being temporary they were told by the boss no drug test necessary. After a vacation to plan her wedding she came back to work and got a slip to go take a drug test. The boss was on vacation and the supervisor on duty did not like the attention this girl was getting. So friend caught mom on her way out and said what do I do, mom said walk out. So she did. When Boss came back and found out what happened they were pi$$ed! My "friend" got hired back in a different department, same boss, after the wedding! Some bosses know a good worker who occasionally smokes pot at home on the weekend is not a danger.
That's why most the time a piss test is useless it's so many ways around it and after the first time most jobs don't do it unless u get in a accident
It's not always addiction, mate - some people just truly don't give a s**t!

Double-check things if you’re unsure even if you feel like you’re repeating yourself: it’s always best to be sure than to make a mistake later on just because you didn’t want to ‘inconvenience’ someone. And if you do make a mistake? It’s no big deal, as long as you learn from it. Your attitude and willingness to adapt are vital if you want to make a good first impression. Meanwhile, a penchant for breaking rules will most likely not.
The Leadership Lab suggests avoiding comparing your old workplace to your new one. It’s something that you should completely avoid doing in your first days and weeks at your new job, according to them.
“Your job is not to criticize what you see. You don’t want to step on anyone’s toes or offend your co-workers right when you’re starting a new job. Being positive and giving constructive criticism after learning more about your new company is a much better way of creating positive change in your current workplace,” they explain that we should opt for learning instead of criticism and for positive change instead of poking at all the various flaws that we see.
There was a new guy hired as quality control inspector after a lot of vetting. The job site was an aluminum extrusions factory — lots of hot, sharp, and heavy things that could crush your hands and slice you up, not to mention all the moving parts. He showed up first day on the job reeking of beer. He said, 'I was just celebrating my new job with my friends before work!' He refused the booze blow test at a nearby hospital. Paperwork was completed and he was fired after 90 minutes by the supervisor and HR.
Well, "How addicated can you be?" maybe is the sad question to ask.

I worked in maintenance at a beach resort. One of the housekeepers managed to get her son a job as a 'runner', someone who would collect the dirty laundry after the housekeepers stripped the beds. She was actually worried when he started working, because I guess he'd a bad track record with other jobs. About three days after he started working, his mother confronted him about his new, expensive-looking athletic shoes and a gold chain around his neck. He just shot back something about having a job now, which didn't make sense because he hadn't even been paid yet. About the same time, there were a couple of reports at the front desk from guests who were missing large sums of money. A police report was made, and people were questioned. So after only about four days, this kid was fired and went to jail for stealing from guest rooms.
Exactly. She wanted to give her kid a chance and he proved to her that he wasn't responsible and couldn't be trusted around other people's belongings.

Several years ago, working as a lifeguard at the town pool, we get a new guy named Tim. Tim showed up to his first shift 30 minutes late, gets into the chair, and spends the entire rotation turned away from the pool. We were all very confused. The chair rotated on the stands, and he was actively facing away from the pool.
Turns out he was really hungry, and was enjoying the smells coming from the snack bar. This was the actual explanation he gave his new boss. He was fired in the first 15 minutes of his first rotation.
A true legend of stupidity.
Hopefully no-one in the pool got into difficulties while this jagoff was sniffing the hot chips with vinegar.
So he "spends the entire rotation turned away", but "was fired in the first 15 minutes of his first rotation"? I assume it's just worded badly, but that doesn't make sense.
The poor guy just misunderstood what was meant by "rotation" :-)

It's a fairly common design for poolside lifeguard chairs. The ladder to get into the chair is in the back, and the other side the platform overhangs the water. The chair swivels to make it easier to sit down.

The kid moved that wheelbarrow maybe fifteen feet, set it down and started looking at his phone again. I have this same problem with my high schoolers in class. I tell them, “School is your job right now. And you won’t always be allowed to use your cell phones. So, put them away.” Technology can be used appropriately. I have signs for when they can use phones and when they can’t. And when allowed, the rule is they have to be flat on the desk in front of you… so myself or any other adult in the room can see that they are being utilized for an educational purpose (using Google to look up word definitions, etc.). However, I resent being a phone police and I wished more students could police themself. The good news is… some can and do!

Meanwhile, Forbes points out that new employees should avoid giving unsolicited advice to their coworkers. You should also avoid announcing all the changes you plan on introducing without first getting to know all about why the things that are done are done the way they are.
Forbes also suggests avoiding boasting to your coworkers (nobody likes a braggart) or bossing them around like you know much better than them. You should also avoid showing your frustration if your coworkers can’t meet your high standards. Be humble at the start. Be willing to learn. First, adapt… then consider making improvements.
Worked in an office where the manager was a bit on the curvy side.
They hired some new guy who was also a rotound man. Whenever the manager walked by he would visibly stare at her butt and go "MM!"
When I got back from lunch all his stuff was gone.
We had a guy like that at one of my jobs. Always checking out female employees as if the office were a nightclub; he was a sexual harassment complaint waiting to happen. Eventually was fired for watching porn at work.
I have to confess... I read this as the new hire calling the manager an M&M and was going to tell you that, hey, the fact that the new hire is fat himself make his fat-shaming hypocritical so it IS relevant. But on re-reading ,this is apparently the story of a man going "Mmmhh" every time he sees his female manager's butt so I guess you have a point.

I was working in a small grocery store and we had a new butcher start. He showed up and asked the boss to pay for his taxi because he didn’t have any money until payday. He worked for a few hours and then left for lunch and never returned. We find out why when we went to close the cash register and it was off by about $1,000. So we checked the cameras and watched him shove the cash into his big rain boots. The kicker though? He went to play poker and that’s exactly where the cops found him hours later, with some money still in his boot.
You start each day with a certain amount of money for change in the register. Which, if it's in an area where cash payments are common, can be a fair amount.

3 1/2 hours. She started the same day as me. Part way through the morning I told a couple of jokes to break the ice. She said she had a couple of good ones and started off with "What do you call a n****r who...." She went for lunch and never returned.
She probably quit because the commute from the 1850s every day would be too much.
First day on the job someone had told a racist 'joke' thinking it was ok because I couldn't be any whiter. I chewed him out and reported him.
My first day on a job, a coworker found out I was a Christian, and asked "if I put a gun to your head and ask if you want me to pull the trigger, what would you say?"
Load More Replies...I've forgotten the man's name, but here goes... Back in the 1960s, a writer/animator/whatever was hired at Disney productions. He arrived on time and got acquainted with his co-workers. They invited him to lunch in the corporate cafeteria. They got along famously. Then the new hire makes a pornographic joke about Minnie and Mickey, complete with vocals. Everybody laughed. When he got back to his desk, his boss asked him into his office. Security was waiting for him and so were his walking papers. Some executives sitting at the next table in the cafeteria had overheard his joke, found it offensive and against company policy, and wanted him fired. He'd worked barely 4 hours. That writer/animator/whatever went on to a successful career at Warner Brothers.
Yeah no one Fúcks with Mickey. Not even Minnie, apparently.

First day at a CPA firm, guy gets a talking to from management because he followed a group of female coworkers to a restaurant at lunch, sat at a nearby table, and stared creepily at them for the entire meal.
He got fired a couple of days later for logging into and using a coworker's computer without permission. Never heard what he was doing on that computer, but I think it's pretty safe to say it was something that he didn't want to use his own computer for.

Worked delivering beer for a few years. We ran through a lot of employees really quickly to the point where we would hire 3 at a time and hope one would stick. Fastest I ever saw was a guy came in for his first day at 7 am, got assigned to drive with a manager (because we were short staffed and the manager was driving routes), and was handed the keys and told to pull the truck into the dock. Never came to the dock. Manager goes looking for him ten minutes later, finds him finishing a beer in our repacking room. Is immediately let go. Twenty minutes on the job.
But he was innocent! He just tested the stuff before delivery, to be sure it's good quality!
Quality control, sir. No one wants to sell flat beer.😆

My bother worked at a pub supplier's warehouse. They had a guy who had been there 2 days and was acting weird, so the manager decided to test him. At the end of the day, they make up a crate of mixed beers for the warehouse staff out of the spares from broken crates and with all the different beers they supplied you were guaranteed a good choice. They put 2 crates down and when he and my brother came to pick them up, he asked which one was his. He was told the middle one, and he just stood there for 15 minutes trying to work out which one was the middle one. One drug test later, and he was found out to be high as a kite and promptly sacked.
They got paid ,they just weren't given any extra to cover lost tips.If you make less that minimum with tips business must pay the difference.
Worked on a logging crew 15 years ago. They hired a guy that “grew up on the farm working hard”… fired by noon day 1 because he literally looked like he was going to pass out and die after a few hours of “light duty” labor.
My first job out of high school was working in a lumber mill. I was turning the logs onto the saw carriage, then turning them after cutting. I finished my first day on my knees with my shoulders looking like bubble wrap from sun burn. It got better and I grew accustomed to the job, but I started looking for different work as soon as possible. (I did NOT 'grow up on the farm' either)
Around 1990: my dad had to fire a new driver of forrestry machines after only a week or so. The job was in shifts because the machines needed to go 24 hours a day. It turned out he went home as soon at dusk because he was affraid of the dark. Not the right place to be in a machine miles and miles away from nearest village then.
Some cocktail waitress on her first day walked out with the main bar's tip jar. No one even noticed because we were so busy and thought she was getting ice or something. She got arrested, we never got paid.
I still wonder wtf happened to all that money.
In the US waiting staff mostly get paid from tips
Load More Replies...Stealing from your employer is bad (and dumb) enough, but stealing from your coworkers is just a d**k move.
While I wholeheartedly believe in sharing tips with support staff like bussers, etc, because they help make the entire experience more pleasant (by making it clean and presentable), and the wait staff’s jobs much easier, I don’t understand why it has to be one jar for everyone. It should be divided into teams or sections. Wait staff and bussers, etc are assigned to a section together. At the end of the shift, the outgoing wait staffer then splits their tips, by whatever percentage they do for the single jar, with the service staff for that section. That way, the better job they all do, the better the tips, and the better the split. With a single jar, sections that slacked off and didn’t earn big tips get to steal tip money from the sections that did better and contributed more. If I’m talking out my ass about this, please let me know—-and let me know why. But please keep it nice. Thanks!
Tips are not w salary. Not liveable, not survivable. How on earth can people think America is the greatest country. It's awful
My brother's friend got a job at a car dealership in our town. Within a couple days of working there, he somehow was allowed to 'test drive' one of the brand new models. My brother and I lived a few miles out of town on 40 acres of land. His friend drove that brand new car out to our property to test the four-wheel drive. Well, it being a wet Pacific Northwest winter that year, he swiftly managed to get the car stuck in almost a foot of mud halfway up a good-sized hill. It took a tow truck three hours to get there and an over and hour to pull him out. All the while, the dealership was calling him asking what happened. The thing was DRENCHED in mud from him spinning the tires. He was fired that night.
That's the first one I'd say it's not entirely the new employee's fault. I mean, it still is, but if they give him a 4x4 to test drive, it's somewhat legitimate to, well, test drive it in my opinion.
Nope you’re very wrong, I work for 2 dealerships and I can 100% verify that you stay on the pavement if you’re driving any one of our units. (Has a lot to do with our insurance too) We would have fired him instantly too. I mean, would you want to buy a vehicle that all the staff and inexperienced customers went for unverified off-road joyrides in? I think not lol, Off-road 4x4 driving is a legit skill, and I don’t think just anyone can be trusted to handle big trucks off-road properly without some practice. If we let just anyone test drive off-road, parts of our brand-new vehicles will break and cost us a lot of money to fix. No one wants to buy a new vehicle that is already broken from a test drive. Then we’ll have to raise prices to cover fixing our “new” broken vehicles, and get bad reviews from people who can’t afford it. Common sense guys, dealerships aren’t always the bad guys any more in 2022 with all our regulations, it’s the ignorant customers that are the bad guys now lol

I worked at a fast food restaurant and one of the guys who’d been there a while was training a new guy. Halfway through the shift we had a rush and the new guy was trying to do the grill by himself while the other guy training him went on break. The manager started yelling that we needed burgers off the grill faster, and the new guy hurled a block of cheese right at him. I guess he didn’t realize who was yelling, but needless to say I didn’t see him again after that.
Ugh, sounds bad all around. Why would you leave the untrained new guy on the grill solo during a rush then yell at him?
He obviously shouldn't have thrown food at a coworker, but I agree, he also shouldn't have been left unsupervised and overwhelmed. It's really the management's fault, that's not how training works.

A new hire nurse on my floor was fired after 2 weeks when my manager found out her previous manager lied about her being a reliable worker to get rid of her. Also several nurses refused to train her anymore after one day because she had such a snotty difficult attitude.
Seriously, that's a big problem especially in the medical field, not just with "attitude " problems but with instances where patients got seriously harmed. The hospitals don't want to draw attention to that and risk lawsuits so the employees get stellar resumes and get pawned off to the next hospital. That's That's one reason why "angels of death" are able to kill so many people before they get actually stopped.
Honestly, in such cases, the hospital that purposefully wrote a false resumee should be sued.

Worked at a school district that was being sued because a new teacher hit a student. She came with glowing references and reviews from another district. The parents of the student she assaulted sued our district. When our district found out her previous district had lied, they sued her previous district and contacted the attorney of the parents who added the previous district to the lawsuit. Lying to get rid of someone can have very bad consequences.
Now a days it's fairly pointless asking a previous employer about a former employee. Most companies are prohibited from telling you there's a problem. Best bet is find an employee who knows someone at the former place and get the inside scoop.
All the previous employer probably meant was that she shows up for work. They didn't say she was easy to work with or gave a s**t. I have worked with lots of awesome nurses (I am one myself.) I have also worked with lots of nurses who don't give a s**t and suck to work with.

His teenage daughter, Paulette, had passed away on the first of the month in a car accident where she, driving a white Suburban, was at fault for a blizzardy collision with another car, containing Crystalina's aunt, uncle, and two cousins, all injured with various states of severity. Crystalina suggested to the employee training her that Paulette had been driving drunk. I work as a Valet in a 5* hotel in Canada and this dude started like 1 week before. He was told that someone with 2 boxes of pretty expensive champagne (Crystal for those interested) that he was going to offer to his employees during a seminar was coming and his job was to put the boxes in his room.
He did just that, except he took one for him and just left.
Police had to come by the hotel to report the theft and the client was pretty pissed (I can see why) but the valet never admitted the theft, even when we showed him the security camera footage.
I'm guessing that the 'decent price' was the £2250 per bottle. Cristal Champagne is not cheap
Load More Replies...I suspect he took the whole case - not just a bottle. Personally I’m indifferent to fizz - gets me drunk too quickly with a side order of indigestion. Now a pint of Guinness, that’s a proper drink!
And what’s even more stupid is that, had he been a stellar employee and a huge help to the guy running the seminar, if there had been a few bottles left, the guy may have given him one as a tip. It happens. I worked hotel front desks and night audits for years, and even we got stuff like that when we went the extra mile for certain guests. It was their insurance that we would treat them well next time too. And we did.
A bunch of crooks stole public funds from Malaysia and spent part of it partying. One them posted on FB "Bring a raincoat, coz its raining Cristal"... 🥴
A number of years back I worked at an inbound call center that also had an upsell side to it. A new guy fresh out of training was bragging about how he did over 10 x the monthly goal in his first week alone. Didn't see him the following week and heard he was laid off because he was upgrading everyone's plans who called in to the highest costing plan without their consent or informing them.
About a week or two later I got a text from him asking if I could be his reference for a new call center job he got. He somehow got a hold of a bunch of our numbers and just spammed everyone asking for a reference.
I worked at a call centre with a guy who did this but it was months before the management found out and sacked him by that time he had earned a fortune in commission and never paid any back.
We had a company holiday party, and the girl who used to be the receptionist had just gotten hired as an account person. She got super drunk that night and started grabbing male employees' crotches. A member of HR took a car service home with her since they lived near each other. She threw up on the HR person on the way home. When they dropped her off at her parents' home. they said not to come back. I think she'd the job for maybe two days.
Sexual harassment is an HR issue, so it would be moot since she was already fired. Did you mean sexual assault charges?

Oh, my, oh, my. On top of sexual assault and harassment, I feel bad for the HR person to have to clean-up her mess. 🤢
I'd say she's lucky. I've worked places where if she got that plowed, someone (if she's lucky) or more than one, would have definitely taken advantage of the situation.
Another piece of advice that too few people are told: Don't drink more than one or two glasses at any work do. I know the booze is free, but just don't.
A former colleague got drunk at the xmas party and punched me for no reason. However, since the boss liked her, he covered for her at HR. It was his word against mine, despite other employees witnessing this. I suppose they were afraid of losing their job by speaking up, so they didn't. The boss decided to harrass me to push me out the door. He succeeded: I went into a depression. The puncher got promoted to manager. Oh, I wish she would have been fired. Since then, I boycott the company's products.
Chain Pizza restaurant early 2000s. The new guy interviewed well and was fairly likeable. He was there for about a week until the restaurant caught fire overnight. (Nothing to do with him, just a weird accident.) So, all the employees had to be transferred to one of the 2 other restaurants in the area while the fire damage was repaired and we both ended up at the same one. His very first shift at the new restaurant, he decided to clock in and leave before anyone saw him or could say anything to him. Unbeknownst to him, the RGM was sitting in his car in the parking lot on break and saw him come in and leave. Employee came back about 5 hours later and clocked out without anyone noticing. RGM checked payroll at the end of the night and saw the 5 hours that employee "worked" and terminated him over the phone the next morning. Weird scenario overall.
I worked in IT with a guy like that. He would come in early, leave for the day, then come back late in the day and do a little bit of work until a while after everyone lad left for the day to make it look like he was pulling overtime. I caught him because I came in early to work on a major proposal.
I'll do you one better. We just fired a guy who (due to covid/work from home measures), would bill for work, he wasn't doing. Only came in once a month. What got him fired was that he went to mexico for vacation and posted on facebook. He was billing time, for that too.

[Part 1] BF was air force reservist until he retired some years ago. One guy in his unit did this on a drill weekend. Airman shows for a drill weekend on Saturday morning and clocks in. Afterwards he was to report to his station. Nobody saw him all day, but there he is at 5 pm, in his flight suit, clocking out. Next morning on Sunday, the CO orders this guy into his office. BF is there since he's the airman's immediate NCO supervisor. CO demands to know where he was all day on Saturday. Airman hems, haws, mutters something about going to the hospital to get his birth certificate (needed for their civilian passport application). "Hospitals don't keep birth certificates. You get those from Vital Records." "Oh, that's what I meant, I needed to go downtown to VR for that." "On a Saturday? That's a government office. They are not open on a Saturday."
[Part 2] Now cornered, airman admits he clocked out to go to his civilian job. His boss had threatened to fire him if he didn't show up. CO is now p*ssed: "You should have called us. We could have made him understand that what he was doing is illegal. You were told that during your training. You will not get paid for today. You will not get paid for yesterday. This will be a black mark on your record." He was given one more chance to straighten up and fly right, but he messed up again and was dishonorably discharged some weeks later. BF was upset too since he'd never had to fire any member of his crew before this. Still he was glad to be rid of him.

Threatened the long term employees, including me the assistant manager, because they/we were younger than her, and shamed us and said "I've been in this industry longer than you! I know more. Okay?! Okay! Hahahaha". Granted, she had been in sales for 20 years, but if she was truly that good, she would have been hired on at a higher position. While screaming this, she was stomping her foot, slamming her fists on the table and standing just a few inches away from each employee when she'd state this.

When confronted, he said he always drinks beer on fridays and he can handle a six pack and drive no problem. Buh bye.
I got hired on with a security monitoring company; Sit in the room, call police when alarms go off, follow up on the incidents in progress. At orientation, they say everyone is scheduled to be fingerprinted at police HQ for background, which makes sense. Since I don't drive, I got a ride with a guy scheduled around the same time. Halfway there, he asks why I think we need to do this. I said "They probably Wanna check our criminal history, because it's a security type job." Then this absolute stranger whose car I'm in deadpan goes ".....What kind of stuff would that show?" I tense up, get one hand on the door handle and ask "What kind of stuff have you done?" Never got an answer, but he was printed, and was not at orientation day two.
We had an elementary teacher get hired bcuz one of our regulars needed to quit. It was sort of fast, but still time enough to check her out. Not sure how well they checked her background, if at all. She was there for a few weeks I think, then we had holiday vacation. She never came back, was quickly fired, and no one was to talk about it. Turns out, someone either passed along her info or googled her out of curiosity. She had her mug shot, arrest record, etc all over. She stole from a previous private employer and did drugs. The second it was discovered, she was out. Now they google everyone along with the background check.
New hire, one day out of training, decided to start an argument with her mentor, proclaiming she knew the business better, despite having zero experience in auto sales. She wasn't even released to the floor to sell yet. Then getting in an argument with sales managers over same thing, trying to tell them how to do things better. Didn't even make it through her first day in the dealership.
