Nearly everyone is aware that online reviews have become the new word of mouth. Whether you want to get a new haircut, fix up your bike, or check out that Italian restaurant your friends go on and on about, often the first thing you'll do is look the place up.
But when anyone with an internet connection can twist the truth with the sole purpose of taking revenge or tearing down the business, there’s a myriad of fake evaluations. Luckily, we sometimes get a taste of sweet justice when the business owners themselves stumble upon these falsehoods and choose to do everyone a public service by rightfully calling them out.
To celebrate their clap-back replies, members of the Quit Your BS subreddit decided to document their attempts to protect their reputation and share screenshots with the whole community. Below, you’ll find some of the best responses Bored Panda has collected from the page, so continue scrolling and upvote the ones you enjoyed reading the most!

A link to the business would be nice. This company deserves support for the stance they have taken. If you are gonna profit (BoredPanda) then the least you can do is state who the company is.
BP has nothing to do with covering up names of people and businesses. It was done on the original post wherever it originated. You can click on the small grayed out word(s) on the left side of the post to see where it came from and if there is any additional information.
Load More Replies...This exact thing happened at a restaurant near me. The idiot taped himself getting kicked out and posted it. Even with it edited to make himself look as good as possible, no one was buying it. Claimed anti-veteran to a veteran after stalking a young woman.
A link to the predator's name would be a nice warning for all the ladies
Congratulations for supporting your employees! Being a veteran conveys no special pass to harass.
To be fair, it's pretty clear that the military teaches their soldiers that making women unsafe and harassing them is acceptable behaviour so it makes sense that a veteran wouldn't understand why he has to treat women with respect.
They don't teach it, they just overlook it in the military. But they're working on fixing that issue now thankfully, still a long way to go but the victims in the program will hopefully get justice in the end

Can someone explain why people like this dickweenie lie about experiences and then tag someone who could expose them? I just don't get it.
I just love it when celebrities call people out for saying things like that
Why did this guy lie about Ryan Reynolds being in the coffee shop ?
He went into my Whataburger I worked in once and dudes! He's such a crazy and nice dude! I told him he looked like the guy who plays Deadpool (I didn't realize it was Ryan Reynolds) and he just looked at me and said "you know, I haven't heard that in a while!" His manager was not pleased with his antics lmao
To learn more about this false review phenomenon and the questionable tactics some raters and commenters use today, we reached out to Curtis Boyd, founder of The Transparency Company. They strive to help consumers work with higher quality businesses with real feedback by predicting whether a business has earned their reviews or paid for them.
"A bad review can make or break a business," he told Bored Panda. "They can have a profound impact, especially if they are detailed and describe a terrible first-person consumer experience."
"People read online reviews because they know what they want, but are shopping for experiences that they want for themselves. When they read experiences that don't align with their wishes, they will easily search elsewhere," he added.
I agree! Prosecute them to the full extent of the law!!

Rival restaurant screwing up when trying to ruin another restaurant
Makes me really angry that sad people take time outta their day to write reviews that could damage a business, especially when it's lies 😡
I wish you could see who was writing the bad reviews, can you get banned on reviews?
Bet it was a nearby independent restaurant owner pissed off they were getting competition and wanted to try and damage them.
Honestly, why? Like what is up with wanting negative attention lately?
OK because I've seen this "clever" response i want to say that i also don't write reviews at the moment i visit them of course!! If this is a seasonal restaurant that was open before the review could be accurate! Unless it's a new restaurant that hasn't opened at all yet and then the owner is right
Given the way the response was written, it is a brand new restaurant that hasnt opened at all yet.
Load More Replies...Wow. Nice attempt at a preemptive strike at ruining a new business. 😡
In theory, online reviews should be forthcoming and provide real information about the places people wish to visit, services they want to try, or products they plan to buy. But just like the internet can be an endless source of wonder, it's a pretty shady place as well.
The yearly Local Consumer Review Survey analyzes how consumers use online reviews to select, trust, and understand companies offering services or products in their local area. It found that 49% trust consumer reviews as much as personal recommendations from friends and family. Considering that this number was much higher in 2020 (79% to be exact), it reveals the public’s trust in online reviews has significantly dropped, and fake reviews seem to be one of the leading causes of their doubts.
More than half of consumers, 62%, believe they've seen a fake review for a local business last year. The top three reasons that make them believe the posted feedback might be false are when it is over-the-top in its praise, it is anonymous or uses an obvious pseudonym, and when there are many other evaluations similar in content. So curiously, this shows that potential clients are probably more cautious of positive fake reviews than negative ones.
It reminds me of the surge of Yankee Candle reviewers complaining the candles suddenly have no smell.
What?! Covid ain't real! Must be ya'lls vaccines coming in here stealing my taste! ...*and then everyone clapped* 🤣
Yeah, but do you have to be so ignorant? Or are you in the south where no one's vaccinated... THAT makes so much more sense.
If I was the owner, I would be considering legal action. Accusing someone of hygiene practices that could kill someone and then even find a picture to prove it is incredibly malicious.
Really, off Getty images! Did she pay to remove the watermark? That's just disgusting!
I am a former business owner who despises people who try to take advantage of other people's livelihoods!!!
yeah, weird because they're not even in the same business
Load More Replies...Wow, they didn't even try. If you're gonna post a negative review at least make it interesting.
Did they seriously leave their name or business attached?? Haha! What's wrong with people?!?
Probably wants to expand the shop and thinks that if they can get the restaurant closed, they can buy the space and booya, bigger jewelry store. SMH
A local hospital, now run by a major university (though I won't mention Yale) has been taking over independent medical practices, and hiring physicians to compete. They also started posting fake negative reviews on some/many of the remaining "independent" docs on the many available "doctor-grading sites"." Most of the narratives weren't even internally consistent. Took legal threats to stop that.
Boyd told Bored Panda that people normally leave fake reviews because they were hired to. "In 2019, Google removed 55 million fake reviews. In 2020, Google removed 75 million fake reviews. In 2021, Google removed 95 million fake reviews (that's 260,000 per day) — in my opinion, it's just the tip of the iceberg. Most of them were positive, that violated their 'TOS' [Terms of Service]," he revealed. "Buying fake reviews is a multi-billion dollar industry that most people are completely unaware of."
It seems to be more commonplace nowadays for people to just complain about something even if it's not justified. I stopped going on FB and a few other social media sites because of the constant complaining about stupid s**t. (btw I am not complaining, I am expressing my thoughts)
I mean, have you considered that some of the people who you are "expressing your thoughts" about are also simply "expressing their thoughts?" Also, isn't complaining a way of expressing your (albeit negative) thoughts?
Load More Replies...What a well written, considerate response from the owner! It sounds like they bent over backwards to appease this woman and she still complained. I would love to visit this salon if I could!
Just because the price was to expensive for you, doesn't mean you didn't like the service. Stop trying to say anything to prove your case!!
i just got my whole head processed and dyed to the tune of 250$. that's usually what it runs for a 3-5hr process esp if it's first time. bleaching and dyeing hair is also so labor intensive on the stylist. let the poor worker get the goddamn recompense you cheap-ass basic bitches.
I think if the complaint stuck to what I think was the original problem they could have actually made some change. I think the problem is got home and saw how much it was on the banking app the next day. The response from the owner makes me believe that prices aren't obviously posted. I hate when I go somewhere like this where prices aren't conspicuously posted, and I don't always think to ask how much before hand either, thinking prices will be in line with a competitor, but that isn't always true
I have only rarely seen prices posted for hair styling, esp in a salon itself, as each stylist sets their own price. I thought it was common knowledge to request the price of your hair before you sit in the chair, as each place has different costs for cut/color/etc.
Load More Replies...First of all 250 is not an agregious price for a cut and colour, especially with a master stylist. Secondly, as a stylist who has had this happen, it's a simple matter of buyers remorse and trying to take advantage of a salon that makes their guest satisfaction a priority. When you factor in the stylists education, time and product costs, you've paid exactly what you should! I bet the poor stylist didnt get a tip either.
This makes sense to me if I imagine she has an emotionally manipulative partner who was upset with how much she spent on the haircut. Everything was fine until he saw the credit card charge and started flipping out.
Load More Replies...I'm on the owners side but it's a little weird that they're saying that the dude should have asked the price. There's a difference in between "this couldn't possibly exceed my budget" and "I'm only willing to spend this much" I do have to say, a 250 dollar haircut would be unexpected.
Not just a cut, they said it wasn't light enough. That means a color was involved as well which can take a lot of time and they redid it.....
Load More Replies...How do these people think they can get away with it. They use their names and are caught out for being just plain nasty. So Stupid
If you're gonna break into private property, don't post a review about it. Any professional knows this
If this is the Wonder House in Bartow, Florida, it has been a wonder for over 70 years. It has been renovated and is worth a visit.
Couldn't they just post the review a long time after being there? It says "is currently a private residence", so presumably it was open for guests before (?)
They said that they WILL BE opening in the future so it is more likely that it had always been a private residence and the owners were in the process of transforming it to something else. Much more likely that it had been public recently became private and then was going to be made public again by new owners in the future.
Load More Replies...could this be a mistake? like he thought they opened earlier? just trying to see their logic
Learn to just move on. You've made yourself look crazy. I don't want to come there, either.
If you’re wondering how to spot them online, Boyd explained it can be easily done on sites like Google and Yelp by clicking on the profile. Then, it's time to put our thinking caps on and raise a couple of questions: "I ask myself, is there a nice diversity of businesses they have written reviews for (cafe, shoe stores, etc.)? Or are they all home service businesses?" He added that the lack of category diversity shows an "agenda".
Boyd also looks at where these people are writing reviews for businesses. "Does it look normal? Are others writing reviews for the sample businesses? Are others hiding their reviews using Google's anonymous feature?" If any of the answers to these questions are positive, he warned that it's a huge red flag.
Same thing happened at a pho shop near me. I was having lunch with a friend there and this tourist from California started yelling at the server "This isn't real pho!! I'm from San Francisco and I know REAL pho!!" Needless to say this pho shop has been around for decades and is still run by the Vietnamese family that started it using their families unique recipe (brought over from Vietnam). She got dirty looks from all the regulars and one guy told her to go back to Cali. She paid and stormed off and everyone's day went on. I tipped a bit extra that day. Nobody deserves to be treated like that.
I dream of a day where we all become so united that, during moments like this, after a second of silence everyone would just begin changing "Karen! Karen! Karen!" in unison louder and louder until she fled.

I love it when people named "Rob Smith" begin waxing eloquent on how there's no AUTHENTIC Japanese food in this place.
People don't realize when food is "Americanized" that that's not the authentic taste. It's not bad but it is a separate thing. You can like taco bell but you can't call it authentic Mexican.
Taco Bell doesn't even resemble authentic mexican cuisine.

Load More Replies...You keep commenting the same thing over and over. If you disagree(which you are free to do as everyone is free to have an opinion) with an owner responding to liars who are trying to hurt their business then why continue looking at a post that is exactly that? Who hurt you and caused you to be so bitter?

Might be one of those people that thinks 1/5 is the best and 5/5 is the worst, so it was one away from the worst. But yeah who does a 6/6 rating system lmao
Load More Replies...As you’re scrolling through this compilation of screenshots, you’ll notice there are plenty of vengeful people online ready to leave bogus customer reviews. Such feedback might shatter the reputation a business has worked so hard to achieve. So no wonder when someone gives a restaurant or a shop a 1-star rating, some owners feel this irresistible impulse to react and fill everyone in on the big picture.
"Responses are important, and yes, it is important to call them out and say that the experience described isn't real," Boyd explained. "Responses give the owner a chance to brag about the typical customer experience they've been delivering for X number of years."
This censoring is just absurd. That's all I will and can say about it as this is a new profile, having had my old one locked for constantly complaining about the censoring.
Load More Replies...I feel so bad for the fish!! What thing did he want done and how'd that killed the fish? That other fish is going home with a nut!
I swear, this one might be a review from the store I work at, because I go through this EXACT situation at least twice a day. It's gotten worse and worse over the last two years, and I've gotten fed up enough to where I'm not being the same polite guy I have been in the past. I even told someone that, "for me to send three goldfish home with you for that ONE GALLON FISH BOWL would require God Almighty to come down and make me do it!"
Sounds like this fish store is still awful. Knowingly selling fish they know we're going to die is negligence and animal abuse (from both parties). I know many people give 0 sh1ts about fish, but irregardless, double dip of assholes abusing not 1 but 2 plecos.
It's terrible that a store would sell a person two animals they *knew* would suffer and die, it's cruel. When I was setting up my tank I had to take in water samples twice and show photos of my setup before I could purchase any fish so they knew they would be going into a suitable environment. The reviewer and shop are both as bad as each other!
If, and I say if, if you see dead fish in their tanks, why would you still buy from them? Makes no sense scammer.
I mean, fish die, so there's nothing wrong with a dead fish in an aquarium as long as it isn't a regular feature

Unfortunately, the Local Consumer Review Survey found that only 26% of respondents would believe business owners who reply to reviews to call out any false accusations. So while responding to bogus claims is meaningful, it might not be enough. Owners should still go through the proper available channels to get fake reviews reported and removed.

Load More Replies...Not going to lie I'd be pissed if I had to wait 50 min for food, for delivery. For dine in I'd expect my food shouldn't take any longer than 30 min and yes I've worked as a server in the restaurant industry. Our GM would have lost her s**t if it took 50 min for food to get out.
That's a good bartender right there. Some would have kept serving; I used to wait tables so I know.
Yea, I wish more were like this bartender. I'm sick of the greed. So many keep serving to get huge tips.

No! No!" as her daughter kept coming towards him because she wanted to "pet the doggie." Of course the dog freaked out and lunged when this loud little thing kept pressing in and invading his space so the guy ended up getting bit to protect this little crumb snatcher.

"over served" classy af way of saying they were drunk to the point of questionable poisoning. This place was WAY too classy for them.
What a respectful comment from the business, in a situation in which they have every right to be rude. SMH at the hideous behavior of that wedding party.
I would have given up on "S" after the 2nd attempt, the owner was being really nice to that person.

Could have just done the job themselves. I mean, it's brakes. They aren't that difficult.
The person who made the review was a door dasher, therefore, he/she couldn't have eaten the food and got poisoning because he/she was supposed to deliver it to a customer. I think that's what happened.
Load More Replies...It's when the food doesn't agree with your stomach, and attempts to relocate itself.

Sometimes you will just have to accept you are not credit worthy. You can sort it in time, and with effort. Up to you, and only you.
Saying you have to prove a review is fake before it's deleted is like saying you have to prove someone's guilty of a crime before they are convicted. Mistakes get made, moreso if someone's got a bias or agenda.
Many pets can't handle even the best care if left. You can't explain to them you are coming back as they don't understand you! They can pine, and not eat anyway despite the kennel's best efforts. Sad but true. You should start kenneling your pet on a regular basis from when it is very young, from short periods (even for1day) then build up, even for no reason and it's not needed. Then, when you do go on holiday later, the pet knows you will return. Don't get a pet then put it in care after having it years and expect it not to feel abandoned. Your fault.
I never thought of that. I'm looking into getting a cat within the next year. I rarely travel for vacation, but I'll keep this in mind.
Load More Replies...I've interned in a boarding kennel/daycare and had a few friends who worked there and it was the worst place ever. Now this isn't a reflection on every kennel/daycare as a whole, but this one was awful. The dogs had turf to play on because it was easier to clean but it can easily heat up to well over 100° on a sunny day. Blankets would be tossed on top of the kennel and they'd be thrown in with other dogs if they messed in their kennel. I can't even imagine the amount of stress because it was never quiet. Not to mention the back biting between employees and they would just stop scheduling someone instead of firing them.
So the new thing when you're jobless is just too troll businesses huh? Do these people not know about all the free TV and movies and books that are online!?
This is obviously a disgruntled employee that was not "a good match" who wrote the review!! The owner was much more subtle than they even had to be!
GREAT comeback to a crappy customer......oh, I mean "non" customer. LOL
I love when an owner/manager stoops to the complainant's level to make sure they understand.
You never seen Gordon Ramsey? Kitchens are sweary. I don't want to work in one though!
Way to go!! I love it when the owner has proof that the customer leaving a bad review is lying about EVERYTHING they posted about their experience! Way to put these entitled customers in their place! Lol
How does it take 9 minutes for an order to be taken and then printed in the kitchen? That seems a long time? I haven't worked in a restaurant so perhaps this is a common thing so just asking?
And 30 minutes for the appetizer to go out. I don't think his timeline makes them look as good as he thinks
Load More Replies...I find it odd that it took 9 minutes between the order being taken and it being printed to the kitchen... Maybe the server was taking multiple tables orders and putting them in at the same time?
"For those taking the time to read this reply.." idk why that made me laugh
Please don't assume that all restaurants have a kids menu. There are many establishments that are geared towards adults as they serve "fine" cuisine that may not be appealing to a child. Although they don't expressly forbid you from bringing your children, perhaps you should consider going to Applebee's instead of going to Le Bernardin and screaming because they don't serve chicken nuggets.
Food prices are on the menu and I'm sure the rest of the review is bogus.
First. If you are supposed to come in a large group at a fixed time to restaurant, and you show up 40 minutes earlier, than enjoy your drinks for those 40 minutes. Kitchens has strict schedules, and maybe they'll be able to make your 20+ orders earlier, but that means plus stress, extreme overwork and because of these likely mistakes. So, don't be an ass, and come on your fixed time. Second, again don't be an ass with the wait-staff.
Working a large party is HARD! Getting 25 food orders taken and filled correctly and in a timely manner takes alot of work and coordination, especially if you also have a full dining room. It sounds like the staff did a great job and those parents who apologized and tipped well knew it and responded appropriately. Good for them!
Both of these people need to get their crap together. The business owner airing this person's personal grievances is no better than the original fake review. Could've just said- "Amanda, you were fired for theft and behaviour that goes against our policies. Your bad review reflects more on your insecurities as a person than it does our business. Please get yourself together and find some peace within yourself" or something. It's just off putting seeing that level of personal dragging in a professional response.
I agree totally. The attack from the responder, to the person who wrote the review, went WAY over the line!! It crossed into territory that shouldn't have been posted just regarding a review. Sounds like bullying, mean kids in high school instead of grown-ass adults! JMHO
Load More Replies...Yeah, she must be on something if she really thought she could leave a review using her real name without the restaurant noticing. If she was determined to lie, she could have at least used an alias.
Damn, he called her all the way out... That's messed up. Doesn't make himself look any better by throwing her personal business out there like that
Gross. Now I'm always gonna wonder if the person that served my food s**ks d**k for cigarettes. Rose-colored glasses are forever shattered ☹️
OMG! My jaw literally dropped when I read the owner's response! Granted, the review was bad but the owner should have taken the high road and not gotten so personal. Not cool.
This always used to piss me off when I worked at a veterinary practice. People would let their pets vomit for almost a week and then have a fit over the bill when it needed to be hospitalized on an IV because it was so dehydrated.
Really? My dogs will occasionally vomit if they have an upset stomach, but if they were constantly vomiting and/or vomiting multiple days in a row I'd contact a vet immediately. It's so sad that some pet owners aren't as concerned about their pets health :(

The rater needs to go back to school with that spelling and grammar: "surprized" "i really"... my brain just got fried.
Someone had downvoted this, I can only imagine due to the mask mandate in the restaurant. Smh
Why oh why would you still take the food if you saw the cook pick his nose and put his hands down his pants without washing?!
Funny as it is, it still means that there was a sick bartender behind the bar with high temperature...

sex shop?? is that what's censored? oh man... i used to work in an "adult" store and we definitely had our share of weirdos but they were pretty harmless. most people were open and friendly, it's like well you know what i wank to, no sense in being shy now! but yeah as the only female on staff, the true weirdos, while few and far between, stood out and made me VERY uncomfortable so i can only imagine... sounds like mgmt is trying to handle it at least. unless i'm way off and they sell uhh... saxophones? or socks and he's just a really bad speller? we may never know....
Is this calling out the restaurant for a false review? It's early here and I'm confused.
I think Blackout is saying Turn House marketing hired David English, a former contestant on The Voice, to write a very positive review.
Load More Replies...There was no reason for the 1 star, so they gave a sarcastic reply.
Load More Replies...They wanted to cancel cause no one was coming to their party? That's hilarious.
Any reputable venue completes a contract with a guest which includes all of the points written out and and gone over clearly with the customer. Deposits are in place to hold a day and time and if the customer cancels the venue loses potential business from others who wanted that reservation. I'm not sure what the difference is between a deposit and a "hire", but regardless the customer should have known the consequences of cancellation. Covid has done a number on the hospitality industry and businesses are doing their best to recover. People need to be aware of their responsibility when it comes to booking a venue and to ask questions if they don't understand something.
Someone left an angry one star review for my work because we had a trans person working in the gift shop. We don't have a gift shop... And even if we did, we would be 100% in support of any trans person who wanted to work in it.
Can I post a reverse story? was looking for a dermatologist in my neighbourhood and checked the reviews of one that was responding very very rude and all the reviews were horrible! My favourite: you said that my daughter had chicken pox instead of simple allergy and you were rude and not explaining anything! Response: "better to overdiagnose than misdiagnose! Behaviour has to do with who you are talking to and i cannot explain medicine in someone that hasn't studied medicine!"
The trouble with a lot of review websites is that the person who wrote the original review can't respond to the reply by the business. I understand why but there's also nothing to stop business owners bad mouthing or lying about reviewers who leave a bad review, knowing they can't respond.
It appears that claiming the reviewer is a disgruntled former employee is a pretty common tactic.
Load More Replies...In my humble but honest opinion, in some of these examples, it's the business owner who's lying.
exactly. it's hard to know the truth, since all we have is the words they said about each other
Load More Replies...Google reviews are always stupid. At my old job, we used to read them all the time and laugh. The type of people motivated to write bad reviews are usually pretty stupid. With Covid, a lot of negative reviews are basically people mad that we enforced the rules, as per the law, like sorry Karen it's not my fault you don't know the rules.
I volunteer at a dog training place. It has a 4.8 star rating based on hundreds of reviews and has won awards etc. "Someone" left a comment saying we abuse dogs and kick them. That "person" has only left reviews for the place I am at and a dog training place that had not opened yet down the street (5 stars obviously) owned by someone who had a personal vendetta against the owner of the dog training place I'm at. The accusation was not only ridiculous but also horrible to the point that students who would inform us it was online.
Back in the lockdown in my country we could only help our customers if they made an appointment. Two women came to our store walked in and asked if they could look around. My collegue politely said no and explained that it was because of the covid regulations. They said okay and left so we thought it was all fine. One hour later we get a 1 star review saying we refused service because they didn't speak Dutch and heavily implied that we were racist. I still have no idea what their goal was with that review :')
