There were rumors about many famous rulers of old that, in order not to rely on the reports of their own servants and advisers, they sometimes dressed in simple clothes and wandered around the city unrecognized in order to find out the pure, unadorned truth about how the state lived and how the people related to their lord.
And you know what? It would be good to extend this experience to the modern world for us - and not only to the powers that be, but also to you and me. Because it often happens that our perception of reality is very different from what it is, and this realization hurts. In other words, there are many simple life truths that are nevertheless so difficult to accept. Like in this particular collection.

If someone disagrees with your beliefs or opinions, it is not an attack against you and you are not a victim.
Repeating misinformation doesn’t suddenly make it right.
The loudest voices aren’t always right.
It’s foolish to devote yourself to any public figure, you won’t get the same loyalty in return.
Poor Tucker Quarrelsome. Spread lies for The Mighty Orange One, and end up on YouTube with 12 listeners. Slime doesn't pay.
Nobody is trying to make your kids gay
If all the straight rom coms we get to see didn't make gays straight, what gives those idiots the idea it would work the other way round? But like with "protect our women", and "pro life" it's NEVER about the group they pretend to 'protect'. They just use that group as a prop, and in fact, are often the abusers of said group themselves.
What is probably the hardest thing to accept is that you and I are not at all the center of the entire universe, and in fact, the universe does not revolve around us, catching our every desire with bated breath. That we're nothing more than one of nearly eight billion people, and only the star in one show, called My Own Life or something like that. And it depends only on us whether this show will be successful. And how many more seasons will it last...
You can do everything right, do the best you can, be the best person you can be and still lose.
You can get up on time, brush your teeth, put your shoes on the correct feet, and still not make it to work.
A good amount of society refuses to accept that respect goes both ways.
Most older people I know were taught respect is an important part of daily life. I have found that the younger someone is, the less respect they have for respect. But this is just people I've met.
The bible is not proof god exist.
If you believe that, if it - if any holy book - gives you comfort, that's fine. Just don't try to change what I beieive.
"In general, debunking myths about one's own exclusivity is a very painful process, and it doesn't matter who we are talking about - of humanity as a whole or about some of its individual representatives," says Irina Matveeva, a psychologist and a certified NLP specialist, whom Bored Panda asked for a comment. “Remember, at least, how hard it was for us to realize that it was not the Sun and stars that revolve around the Earth, but we live on an ordinary small planet in terms of space. And the only thing that makes it unique is that we actually live here."
"Of course, a child from their earliest years perceives their whole life as something that revolves only around them and the people who surround them as a kind of 'people-functions'. To feed, read a fairy tale, take a walk or go to football or basketball together. And there is nothing strange in this - at the childhood stage of human development. But then adulthood sets in - and the sooner we accept many worldly truths that are unpleasant for us, the easier and better it will be for us. And, ultimately, for the people that surround us, as well. After all, you should never forget that someone else's life does not have to revolve around us," Irina concludes.
Stating a personal opinion and then writing the word "Facts" after it does not make your opinion a fact
But it also often happens that those are facts. And people see facts that they don't like and say "it's just your opinion".
"Then" and "than" are not interchangeable. "Would of, should of, could of" are not the correct way to write 'would've, could've, or should've." People have argued in support of these egregious errors too many times.
Published author here, things like this make fear for the future of our language.
Karma's not real. Some people will be liars and a******s all their life and get away with it until they die.
Yes. This is a very unfortunate truth. It's why I don't have any hope that Trump will ever feel the consequences of his lying, cheating, and being an overall horrible creature.
I would agree except he made a really bad mistake with lying about the boxes of papers. That is messing with money of people far more wealthy than he is and that is where he will pay. the nameless billionaires who we dont know about. They are finished with Trump and now he will pay. I dont think he will do any prison time but I do think it will kill him.
Load More Replies...And some good people, like good samaritans, sometimes get the short end of the stick
In my 59 years of life, this is one real truth that has become all too apparent. There are too many instances of truly good people being shat upon by circumstances and bad people never receiving consequences for Karma to be an actual thing. I know that there are people who believe in Karma because it gives them peace, and that's OK for them. It's hard to accept that fairness and justice are not universal, metaphysical truths. It's depressing to think that the worst of the worst may never pay for their misdeeds. Goodness isn't always rewarded and evil isn't always punished and that's just the way it is.
Karma doesn't always happen, but you should still do good deeds even if it's not guaranteed to bring good fortune. Also, I don't care if karma takes revenge because revenge doesn't undo whatever happened first
As I always tell ppl who believe in karma: if karma was real, civilization wouldn't have need of laws or prisons. "Oh no, somebody broke in and stole all your stuff and killed your family? GURL! That sucks but can you imagine what karma is gonna do them?!"
Yes that's the point! Karma is the balancing force along the continuum of lives ..
Nope. It's "the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences". Every action you take causes you to accumulate karma, which is a bad thing, and you want to avoid it.
Load More Replies...So will we all. And then that's it. So what's your point?
Load More Replies...This is a great example. He was one of the most evil men who ever lived, and although he had to flee his native Germany; he was able to live out his life in comfort in South America. He never paid for his atrocities and died at a ripe old age.
Load More Replies...Karma may not be real but as a generalized concept it kind of is. By that I mean for example that if someone frequently does bad things then most of the time sooner or later something bad will happen to them. No, of course not always, but the odds are greatly increased. If you frequently rob houses, the odds are much higher that sooner or later you end up imprisoned or shot by an angry home owner. If you lie and cheat - you will likely get a reputation for same and more people avoid you. I know people who didn't "get what they deserve" but also didn't get nearly as much out of life as they could have if they were decent human beings.
Karma is just yet another "god" that people use to cope with the reality that there's actually NOTHING "greater than us that's controlling our lives".
Karma also does not mean that if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you. that is not what Karma is about
You are technically correct; however, that is the general definition and understanding that the average layperson has of the concept. When someone who is not a theologian or Eastern philosopher says something like "Karma's a b***h", what they generally mean is that if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you.
Load More Replies...Exactly. Sometimes you get "instant karma" and sometimes it will get you in your next life
Load More Replies...Life is not fair. Bad things will happen people don't deserve. And good things will happen they didn't deserve. If something bad happened to you, you are not owed or 'due' something good in return (you may be treated like Cinderella, that doesn't mean that automatically a prince will turn up). So don't wait for it, don't hope for it. (Saying the latter because that was so hard for me to unlearn).
I disagree to a small extent. I was at work one day and a coworker #1 pulled into the parking lot for their shift with a police car right behind them. They then received a ticket for speeding I think it was. The coworker #2 standing next to me was laughing and teasing them about it the rest of the shift. The very next day the exact same thing happened to the coworker that had been doing the laughing and teasing. Coincidence? Absolutely! Karma? Again absolutely!
people are just confused about what Karma really is. It doesn't mean you get your comeuppance in the life you've been a d**k in, it means you come back as a less enlightened creature in the NEXT life. The goal is to reach a transcendent state, but you're only score at the end of your life for the next one.
the hindu concept of karma goes beyond just this lifetime. The rest of the world adopted a bastardized version which is the reason it does not work
I have been agnostic but have studied religions for a couple decades - based on what I've read, which is a lot more than just the bible..., my belief system is at best described as Christian (based on Jesus alone) and Buddhism. They go together more than you think. Based on both, I adhere to the karma determines your next step, not necessarily punishment in this lifetime. I don't expect Trump, and others, to be coming back as a person whatsoever. Just my beliefs.
thats why sometimes i thought to myself "hey why not do the karma urself?" lol
There are two parts to karma. One is the atheist side - people who live by the sword tend to die by the sword, and bad things happen to bad people eventually because bad things happen to all people eventually. No problems with that. But theist karma - that if a bad thing happens to you it's because you are a bad person - is not real.
You don't know that Karma doesn't exist through reincarnation on a lower rung of the wheel or in other lifes
The thing about Karma, the actual spiritual belief not the new age-y "what-goes-around" belief, is that your Karma affects your next life, not this one.
That's now how karma works. It's when you reincarnate you'll get what you did done to you to fulfill your karmic debt. Like an equilibrium.
I'm hoping that, as he lays dying, he asks 'was i a good man?', And someone gently takes his hand, smiles at him, looks into his desperate eyes, and says, 'no, Donald, you were the biggest a**hole anyone has ever known'.
It's a truth which is hard to swallow, but a truth nonetheless, you've just got to try and do the best you can and live your life the best you can....
This is “kinda” relevant if monetary measures is what we are calling “getting away with it”. People who are selfish and self centered may never reflect on the pain they cause others, at the same time the insensitive existence they lead arguably is not that great. That’s karma for you, it’s a spiritual comeuppance not a dollar figure you can tell Wall Street about.
They won't be remembered as such. In fact, some of them -- like my own father, in fact -- will be unspoken of after they die, the more quickly to forget they existed.
There will be karma it's just that sometimes it isn't visible to outsiders.
You and I might not see karma at work but the energy you put out will come back to gitcha’.
It only seems that way because EVERYONE has SOMETHING in their lives that is the proverbial turd stuck sideways in their butt. It might not be the same thing you consider a problem, but it steams their clams all the same.
I totally disagree. I believe Karma does exist but we are not all privileged to see it working.
Karma is absolutely real. Not the b******t spiritual stuff, but good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. It's one of the things I've had to confront and admit that I'm just a naturally horrible person and I hurt everyone I get close to, otherwise my life wouldn't be like this. I try my best to help people and make things better but at this point I'm fully aware I suck as a human being and my life reflects that
I respectfully disagree. I work so hard to be a good person, but I have terrible luck. I think it's all quite random. But I think it's also wise to do your best to put good into the world, because at least then you know for yourself you've done your part.
Load More Replies...That comment strays very, very close to victim blaming.
Load More Replies...What is even more difficult to understand and even more hard to accept is that not everything in this life depends on you and me. It's only in a video game that if we do everything right, then most likely we will succeed. Life, after all, is much more complicated. And yes, games too. If you don't believe me, ask any Patriots fan about the 2007 season. They were the strongest. They did everything almost perfectly. They had almost no flaws. They lost their only match of the season. And it just so happens that that match turned out to be the Super Bowl...
By the way, just here lies another important and not always pleasant nuance - after life unambiguously makes you understand that not everything happens strictly according to our plans, it is damn important not to break down. And if we did everything right, then sooner or later we will be lucky. Or not... Yes, that's another painful truth to accept.
It’s “COULDN’T care less” not “could care less”. 99% of people who have said this phrase makes this mistake for some reason.
Oh, yes, this is a pet peeve of mine. I even addressed it in a blog post.
Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it
If I thought I was dumber than my parents, I'd still be living in their basement instead of standing tall, and moving to my Aunt's basement.
Well, perhaps the most important and wholesome thing from this collection is that we simply do not have the right to comment. When you open a bag of chips, the air that fills it is predominantly nitrogen. And it is really damn useful - because it acts as a shock absorber. Without nitrogen in a pack, the fragile chips would have crumbled long ago, perhaps right at the factory. By the way, don't worry that nitrogen can somehow negatively affect the chips. Or affect us.
First, nitrogen is actually more than three-quarters of all the air we breathe. And secondly, back in 1994, scientists conducted a detailed study that confirmed that nitrogen in bags of chips is not only harmless, but can even increase their shelf life. So feel free to grab some chips, scroll this list to the very end and maybe add some worldly wisdom based on your own experience in the comments. After all, we will all be grateful for that. Or not. Well, gratitude for good deeds is not something we should take for granted...
That children learning to say no is an *essential* life skill, not something that should always be treated as simply an annoyance/something to discourage by schools, parents, etc.
Funnily the kids whose parents refuse to use a "no" on them learn using it themselves just fine. Kids need to learn to say "no", but they also need to learn to accept a "no"
Sometimes you are the problem.
And in the same vein, being aware of your faults is not the same thing as actually trying to change them.
Apologies mean nothing when they aren't followed up by attempts to change the offending behavior.
The air in a bag of chips is necessary.
It’s mostly nitrogen. It’s to make sure that the chips don’t get crushed and the chips don’t oxidize and become soft and spoil
A published article only proves that somebody published an article
Yeah, that's why there's this thing called "peer review". Magazine and newspaper articles are not the same as academic journals. Not all secondary sources are created equally.
Popping off on social media about the atrocities of the world isn’t activism.
Celebrities aren’t activists and it’s weird that people expect them to be.
Most people who claim to be activists aren’t actually doing anything to be activists in their own lives.
Just because people on your specific TikTok algorithm are talking about something doesn’t mean it’s common knowledge or that people care in the real world.
Evolution is a reality that is currently taking place.
... you sure we're not devolving? Because it feels like we're devolving...
Driving a BMW does not clear you of indicator or speeding violations.
They just go out of blinker fluid really fast in those really big cars, they really can't help it!
Too much coffee isn't good for you
Too much exercise isn't good for you
That change can in fact be good and that things can in fact be better we just have to actually TRY to do them
Whataboutism does not help promote your cause. It just shows that your side is as bad as the other.
Alcohol is bad for humans.
My father's doctor told him to have a glass of red wine every night, that it is good for his heart. So who is right?
The world isn't black and white
Technically the world isnt anything except how we take in information around us using senses that have evolved to our personal needs as a species that come together to form things we see as "reality"
That life is full of randomness. Our fear of accepting this leads us to do things like blame people when bad things happen to them. We want to imagine that similar bad things couldn't happen to us, so we rationalize that they must have done something that led to the bad thing happening.
Of course this isn't to say that what we do has *no* effect or that people can't do things that contribute to bad (or good) things happening to them. I'm just saying there's a lot more randomness in it than we're comfortable admitting.
And the human mind tries to make order from the randomness, and it doesn't seem to work.😐
That they’re responsible for sorting their own lives out.
True, but too many confuse 'responsibility' with 'ability'. No, someone cannot 'just take responsibility and overcome their trauma'. No amount of 'taking responsibility' will change the biological reality of an illness. I see it way more often used to put others down, instead of helping them finding a way and getting the help they need.
That their side can be wrong as well.
i've been wrong a lot and i admit it. but sometimes, people are asshats
Life was much, much different 30 years ago and comparing today's life with today's technology and instant information in your pocket is an unfair comparison.
Think about it this way. One reason people hate boomers is because they didn't recycle and now things look grim for our planet.
You might be surprised to learn that recycling did not largely exist 30 years ago. Many products sold were bad for the environment but there were no alternatives. Or the alternatives at the time were just too expensive to be used widely. Cars leaked oil and burned a ton of gas - all unavoidable.
40 years ago our town dumps were hills. Everyone in town drove to the same location, threw all of their trash down a hill, and drove off. Once every month or so someone would burn it. The boomers parents are to blame for that. The boomers are the ones who cleaned that up.
Contrary to what many youngster believe, many boomers don't just talk, they act. This points out something that too many young people believe, life was different and standards were different. It's comparing apples to oranges. I'm looking back at over 50 years. A computer in my home? Never going happen. But it did. Talk to people before painting them with such a broad brush. There are good and bad in all generations.
"Gaslighting" isn't just a fancy word for lying or being manipulative, it's got a specific definition. Similarly, "narcissism" isn't just another word for selfishness or lack of empathy. It's also got a specific medical definition and if you haven't worked with someone extensively (and aren't a clinician) you aren't qualified to diagnose them with it.
"Your truth" does not exist. There is one single truth and it is the same for everyone. The word you are looking for is "opinion".
I will disagree (to my own detriment). Atheism is a belief, it is no more or less true than any other belief. There are organized groups of atheists, at that point I see no difference between it and any other religion. I await the downvotes and insults for having a differing opinion.
Load More Replies...not everyone will be as kind to you as you are to them. you could do them a great service and they'll just flip you off and spit in your face. it's a sad reality
Most of these "truths" are Just old well known platitudes that have been around forever and haven't changed a damn thing .
