In a moment of frustration or confusion, every mom and dad has said and done things that they later regretted. But that doesn't make them bad. There's a difference between making a mistake and negligence. And the subreddit r/BadParents is trying to find this.

"From naughty moms to drunk-in-public dads, if they are being idiots or crazy irresponsible, we want to see it," the online community writes on its 'About' page, inviting people to share examples of how not to raise kids.

Taking an honest assessment of someone's parenting style isn’t always an easy task. That’s why it’s important to first separate the behavior from the person.

Calling a person a “bad parent” isn’t something to jump to based on a difference in beliefs or parenting style.

Losing your temper every once in a while is not the same as telling your child, "I'm right, you're wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it."

Although people might disagree on what is "good" or "bad" parenting, most parents have both positive and negative parenting traits.

That is abuse. Don't make this kid not feel like she is not good enough. Also, you are giving her self doubt and negatively. You need to be positive and have self confidence to be successful. That negative s**t is going to cause failure.

I know why, because I asked Google not because Anybody in the health system has ever told me......not once.

Reminds me of the (US) parents whose little daughter died of rabies, because they denied her the last chance of survival by getting the vaccine post-bat-bite. Reason: she is so afraid of needles and we can't stand seeing her cry.

This is a fake news story. The only child who died of rabies in the last several years died because he had an encounter with a bat and no bite marks were visible. The parents didn't know marks sometimes don't show.

As a parent, you don't like your child whining "But why?!" But as adults, it's okay to ask a professional their opinion and when they give you answers and directions, expect that the doctor can read your mind that you have a question OR you should petulantly whine, "But why?!" GROW UP and take some responsibility! You can google every stupid thing under the sun but refuse to google a medical question and demand your doctor spoon feed you.

On the other hand - in Germany we (yes, I'm a doctor myself) still tell patients not to drink for eight hours before surgery, and it's unnecessary. Two hours without water is clearly enough. If medical staff constantly keeps telling the patients compete b******t, they shouldn't act surprised when people just stop listening. I absolutely recommend fact checking every single thing any doctor ever says. I talk to my colleagues. It's not all that great. Medical staff is not that competent.

This does entirely depend in the type of surgery. When you operate inside the bladder, or say a prostata removal, it'll complicate matter a lot if there's a lot of urine to drain, since the patient can't have a cathether in. Also a disadvantage if the cathether bag has to be emptied a lot during surgery, there are more Important things happening. Or some tissue shouln't be hydrated before surgery. Sometimes it's the other way around. Coronar angiography, for example. The patient has to drink a litre one hour before surgery, so the arterys are full and the equipment can fit inside them without causing the patient tremendous pain. It's different for all surgeries. #knowledgable_medical_staff

The Anaesthetists where I work sometimes ask patients on arriving theatre what they had for breakfast. Most look confused and reply that they were asked to not eat anything beyond a certain hour. But on the rare occasion we find someone who took a little something, usually “to cope with the stress of surgery.”

We've had family members order food deliveries for their family members who are inpatients at the hospital that I work in. NPO (Nothing Per Oral) means nothing to them, neither do dietary restrictions like "liquids only". Thank goodness their nurses are on point.

Something the medics did? Ex nurse here and you would not believe some of the terrifyingly stupid parents do.to their kids and the sad part is they don't even understand that in some cases those parents are responsible for very grave harm or even death. The ones I detest and who I'd like 5minutes alone in a room with no CCTV and I'll show you just what this little woman can do with her best hands are those that hard those they are ment to care for. There's a special place in Hell for them!

Raising Your Child Isn't Something They Have To Earn

Raising Your Child Isn't Something They Have To Earn

According to Sharron Frederick, LCSW, a psychotherapist at Clarity Health Solutions, kids who have little or no discipline are left to fend for themselves, which can result in injuries and also creates a child who does not understand boundaries.

"Children look to parents to define what boundaries are and the consequences that can occur if the child crosses the boundaries," she told Healthline.

As time goes by, according to Frederick, this can lead to co-dependency, in which the child will adapt to how they feel a person wants them to act. "Many times, this can lead to relationships that are abusive," she explained.

Sounds like my ex talking to our son. Wanna guess why we divorced and our son has seen him maybe a total of 6 times in a year with 2 of those times being from running into each other while out on errands and 2 being holidays? Those 6 times add up to around <5 hours. Our son is almost 19 now. I told his father years ago when we left, our son was 7 years old, that he made the difference then but one day our son would get to make it. Guess who regrets being an absolute 🐓🍭 to their only child now? Our son visits him about 2-3 hours every couple of months or so at his choice. I watched him cry as a child having to do court ordered visitation until the court finally allowed it to be no overnight stays about 5 months in. Then his father started skipping visits here and there for being "too tired to watch him" and "the race is on this weekend". Courts then let our son decide if he wanted to visit him and when. So thankful that the system worked for him as it tends to fail a lot of kids.
