In a moment of frustration or confusion, every mom and dad has said and done things that they later regretted. But that doesn't make them bad. There's a difference between making a mistake and negligence. And the subreddit r/BadParents is trying to find this.

"From naughty moms to drunk-in-public dads, if they are being idiots or crazy irresponsible, we want to see it," the online community writes on its 'About' page, inviting people to share examples of how not to raise kids.

Taking an honest assessment of someone's parenting style isn’t always an easy task. That’s why it’s important to first separate the behavior from the person.

Calling a person a “bad parent” isn’t something to jump to based on a difference in beliefs or parenting style.

Losing your temper every once in a while is not the same as telling your child, "I'm right, you're wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it."

Although people might disagree on what is "good" or "bad" parenting, most parents have both positive and negative parenting traits.

That is abuse. Don't make this kid not feel like she is not good enough. Also, you are giving her self doubt and negatively. You need to be positive and have self confidence to be successful. That negative s**t is going to cause failure.

Sounds like my ex talking to our son. Wanna guess why we divorced and our son has seen him maybe a total of 6 times in a year with 2 of those times being from running into each other while out on errands and 2 being holidays? Those 6 times add up to around <5 hours. Our son is almost 19 now. I told his father years ago when we left, our son was 7 years old, that he made the difference then but one day our son would get to make it. Guess who regrets being an absolute 🐓🍭 to their only child now? Our son visits him about 2-3 hours every couple of months or so at his choice. I watched him cry as a child having to do court ordered visitation until the court finally allowed it to be no overnight stays about 5 months in. Then his father started skipping visits here and there for being "too tired to watch him" and "the race is on this weekend". Courts then let our son decide if he wanted to visit him and when. So thankful that the system worked for him as it tends to fail a lot of kids.

When I was in nursing school we were doing our OB clinical rotation. Got to witness a 14 year old girl give birth. Didn't want an epidural because she was"tough as sh¡t and ain't gonna puss out" (direct quote). Girl was in labor for around 12 hours and was absolutely climbing the walls screaming and crying by the 2nd hour. She had no clue how childbirth happened, never took a class or read a book, no education. The girl couldn't understand that she got pregnant to begin with because she had "rinsed out with water" after sex. Her parents were with her, no baby daddy there (supposedly a 27 year old man). Parents just completely shell shocked the entire time. Girl would scream for her parents to help her, they just stood there dumbfounded looking at us. Pitiful situation all around.

Kids in school talk about sex early. So, I told my daughter at age 8 of the diseases. Kids at school were taking about it. Plus my kid is really smart for her age. I showed her pictures of the diseases. When she was 10 I let her see what child birth looked like. ALL this stuff about sex it out there. You're damn right I am going to show her the facts that aren't in their face. If Kids are educated on diseases and what it can do to them emotionally they just look at all these "sexy" advertisements and what their friends say and roll with it. I want my child to be educated. Sex isn't just some fling or a casual thing. Kids need to understand that. It is sad that we do have to say this a very young ages. But all this s**t is out there in their faces. You can shelter your kid all day long but the go to school, see advertisements all over. It is just in their face.

If this is in the USA, then she’s being forced to go through with the pregnancy because of those stupid anti-abortion laws. But if this is outside the USA in a place where abortion is legal and they are simply just not letting the kid have one… I don’t know which scenario is worse…

if u search deep into those laws u will learn that children r an exception due to the fact it can b rape as well as their age. however if they r 18 the anti abortion laws apply. also ppl who need an abortion bc it will save their life the law doesnt apply considering thats like saying kill them both. my friends 13 year old daughter was raped and got pregnant its how i learned about this in the first place. her daughter didnt kno how to tell her mom and came running to me instead. i worked with my friend to find loop holes in the law. under 18 whether rape or accident r allowed abortions due to young age and can cause complications to a body not fully matured. thats the official reasoning. which is true. alot of things can happen is a body not fully matured has something happen the body isnt ready for.

I met a pregnant 12 YO IRL once. Young married me and then wife / mother were invited to go talk to a group of pregnant teenagers. (Note: We were in our 20s) It was like to share our experiences good and bad about pregnancy, life with a baby etc and let them ask questions. Most the girls were mid to late teens - more like you would expect. But one girl was a child. In her third trimester and looking very pregnant and doing the math was (I forget now) either 11 or 12 when she became pregnant. I know nothing about the father because not what we were there for / not our business / "the system" already knew about these kids. But in my head I'm thinking, dang, that poor girl.

studied and have degrees in psychology and behavioral science. while i was never one to agree with sigmund freud on much i will say i agree with one of his beliefs: "we do the greatest injustice to our children to not teach them the power of sex." to some extent we have to recognize that for all the so called higher brain function we have we are still a human animal with basic biological urges. we would like to think we are above this but when you are young and not being taught about sex then we leave our kids to their own and often poor decisions or make them prey for predators.

I'm going to be the devils advocate here and say that if a child wants to have sex, they will find a way. The problem was not taking to the child at an early age and explaining about consequences, disease, how incredibly difficulty it is to raise a child, and how many things have to be in place in a successful adult life before a decition to make a baby is made. But if a child still wants to have sex, they're going to. You can't lock the door and throw away the key. Children have to learn how to exist in the world. And taking this girls phone or banning her from social media, etc, is incredibly harsh. That's how Kids these days are social. This could be her rection to harassment from peers, she's clealy too far along for an abortion and has to live with her choices at this point. Being ashamed will not help anyone here.
