When reading such posts, I feel always sad, because the best solution for almost all of those families would be some kind of government (or company) paid child care to give the parents time and peace of mind to work and provide for the family. Sadly, children seem not to be seen as an investment in our future. Just imagine, what kind of people this little ones can grow into, if raised and educated collectively by professionals who are paid well and treated with respect. Edit: we moved to another country when our second one was just 6weeks old. The first years, I only worked for the childcare, to give both of them the opportunity to socialize and grow into the community and the new culture. Without family or friends, we had to rely on private paid help by babysitters and private kindergarten. We are very lucky to be able to pick and pay. Unfortunately, not everyone has this opportunity and almost always the children suffer

But you can't work without childcare. This is why subsidized local childcare (daycare etc) helps lift people out of financial instability. It's an absolute must that isn't properly invested in. Some people are just trying their best. That said, if you know you can't offer competitive pay, you can at least make it as easy on the sitter as possible. No extra chores. No unusual requirements that aren't for the direct health and safety of the child or children. But even then - if you can't offer anywhere near minimum wage and you need full time care - I'm sorry, but that's just not going to work.
