Personality disorders, often stemming from abuse or neglect, make people like this. Most of these look like BPD (obviously that's off the cuff and not an actual diagnosis, but BPD people are like this enough that it's one of the hard things about treating them).

This is the type of person whose parents gave them everything they wanted rather than actually being a parent to them and setting/teaching boundaries.
