I once read that every time new documentaries, movies, or shows come out about these kind of criminals, their families and their victims' families have to go through everything all over again while being hounded by the media. I'd never thought about it before but it makes sense. How awful.

All I see is a bunch of people that were never given enough attention growing up. They want to be noticed. Here's the thing...criminals get noticed...corrupt politicians get noticed...out of control celebrities get notice. Getting noticed isn't always a good thing. Especially if you lack humility and come off as a pompous entitled person because then you get noticed for all the wrong reasons.
From my experience women are the worst enemy of other women. I grew up with a sister, work in a field with a lot of women around - and the majority of the conversations is gossip about how bad some other woman is.
My sister noticed that too. She became an HVAC tech in a field predominately occupied by men. She said men may tell vulgar jokes and can be a little too flirty, but they will never gossip about you or stab you in the back the way female co-workers do.
