Back in 2011, when Newsweek gave 1,000 Americans the official US citizenship test, 29% couldn’t name the vice president and nearly three-quarters couldn’t explain why the US fought the Cold War. They aptly titled their result as “how ignorant are Americans?”
Another survey found that more people could name characters from 'The Simpsons' than the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Bored Panda spoke to George A Barnett, PhD, a professor of communication at the University of California, to understand why some Americans are clueless and what perpetuates this stereotype.
“The US is isolated from the rest of the world, with direct contacts with only Canada and Mexico. This makes travel to other countries difficult. Only 20 some percent have passports to visit other countries and those with passports tend to be those who go on cruises or to all-inclusive resorts,” he says.
He believes that a lot of American news media outlets mostly concentrate on domestic events, not on what is taking place around the world. "Research indicates that the media only reports on those countries that are physically proxemic and culturally and economically similar."

And with English being the main language of the internet, their clueless comments travel even further.

During the past 250 years, Europe got rid of the "all power to one" principle and established pretty sound voting and election procedures. The very basis of this is a multi-party system, which results in parliaments/governing bodies in which multiple opinions are present and by this keeping extreme opinions under control. The voters do have an actual choice, and every vote counts immediately for the end result. No weighing, no gerrymandering, no "winner takes it all". The USA still sticks to a 250 year old, outdated system, of which the core is "all power to one single person" and a two-party system is cherished.

I have a suggestion on how to improve our image abroad. The US government should recall all passports, and require a test of general knowledge beyond our borders and a personality evaluation before allowing its worst citizens to impose themselves on other cultures. We need to stop inflicting our loudest and dumbest upon the rest of the world. When they come here to become citizens, they have to pass a test. We should do the same to qualify for a US passport.

Just a hint- the 22 year old drunk girl on the street in that video you saw has more to her than the 5 seconds you saw of them in that clip, republican or not. I can practically see your finger or mouse moving towards the downvote button, but before you do, just think about maybe next time, just take literally ONE second to just consider that people are allowed to think different than you, and that doesn't make them a bad person. I strongly believe in diversity of thought. I admit, there are a lot of stupid Americans. But guess what, there's a lot of stupid people, period. Republicans aren't the only loud obnoxious people out there.

The most annoying thing about americans is there constant insistence that they are right and everybody not american is actually below them. Just yesterday i had an american explaining to me why i am wrong to be angry about someone who cheated me because this is a buddhist country ( i am in cambodia atm) and i have to let it go because this is the custom here. What annoyed me most was the condescending way he explained to me why it is like that and how buddhism works. I am a buddhist my entire life 🙄
