When I was there, the guides told us that they weren't actually glow worms...they are larva of fireflies...otherwise known as maggots.

    The density of ice like this is such that only blue light can pass through, so that's why it has a blueish tinge to it.

    Yep. If you go into the water, the high salt content holds you up (like in the Dead Sea). Of note: the sun has to be shining on the water (and the algae) to reflect the pink. You can barely see the pink when the day is overcast.

    The lake is filled with so much Calcium and salt deposits that causes the blood red color. The "potholes" are streams of fresher water.
