People Are Cracking Up At These 35 Nonsensical Beliefs These Twitter Users Had As Kids

Not about 'correct' religion, but proper (correct) teaching of what Jesus preached.

One of the things that confirmed to me that religion was made up was that people believed so fervently in different religions. I was born into a religion and grew up surrounded by good and pious people. Imagine my shock to discover that there were people who believed in something quite different? I was amazed! My father added to my astonishment by telling me that people fought wars over their differing beliefs. I knew how seriously the adults around me were about religion. Other people must be equally serious. How could they all be wrong? And how could they be right? How do you know that what you were taught was fact and not opinion? Your feelings won't tell you - you can't trust your feelings without accepting that everyone else should trust theirs as well. And where does that get you?

Not an opinion, a belief. If something is objective, but is not known/agreed upon, it is not related to opinion.

The biggest problem with any religion is the people running it.

Man, even I am more creative than your two-way-thinking! How about a supposed God cares about humans in the way someone would care for a cage full of pet-mice. More observation and caring for them, but if they mess up, they effing have to clean that sh*t up themselves. So no - in belief, God CAN be omnipotent but humans aren't numb little lego-figures either. They wanted free will - they got it and now need to act like adults. (This is all theoretical talk, btw. I just don't like "either/or"-truths in philosophical discussions. Be more creative with that brain that evolution gave yoU!)

That old excuse - no, people are not all the same. There's not a whole lot of free will out there. THAT'S the real "either/or" argument, and that's the excuse the Catholic Church uses to justify punishing people and threatening them with eternal damnation. That is what you've been taught, but it rings hollow to people who've been taught differently. Their teachings are just as valid as yours, but so, so different. (And no raped children or mass graves, either...)

Did you forget about Satan? Evil? Sin? God doesn't give kids cancer. And He is omnipotent still. He takes the bad, and turns it good. Adam and Eve. Cain and Abel. Heck, even I have had points where I wished I wouldn't wake up in the morning. But I'm alive. And I'll keep going. I have a promise with God, and He's kept his side.

If he was omnipotent he could defeat Satan, stop criminals and cure diseases from innocent people. Either he does not exist or he is a massive psycho

There are people who have suffered and died for their Faith. There are people who have looked upon God and told those around them. There are people whose faith was so strong that they had supernatural abilities. What do you think of the saints?

There are people who have suffered and died for hundreds or maybe thousands of faiths. Humans will give up their lives for their beliefs. There are people who have communed with all sorts of gods and even spoken with their ancestors and other spirits, and told those around them. Supernatural abilities... and you believe in Satan? Why are you permitted by your religion to believe in signs and wonders - you can't know who or what is behind them?

No I didn't forget about Satan. Is he omnipotent too? Because I thought only God was omnipotent. If Satan gives kids cancer, God could take it away, no? Instead, kids suffer and die and if you think there's any good in that, I'd like to hear what it is. Or are you saying that kids with cancer deserve to die, because of sin?

The ugliest argument I heard was that god lets little children die of cancer to teach people... something. I don't know what the lesson is supposed to be but I'm happy to fail that class. I don't want any children dying in agony and terror so I can learn something, thanks, I don't care how important it's supposed to be, I don't want it, don't do it in my name.

I used to believe. Then my beautiful mother, who was good and kind (and catholic) and a nurse who spent her adult life caring for the elderly, got brain cancer. I prayed and begged and bargained with your God. And yet she suffered daily until she died. No loving, caring, omnipotent being who has the ability to heal would let that saintly woman suffer and die at the age of 56. There is no higher power. If there is, he is sadistic and cruel, and unworthy of praise.

No ordinary human would let such a thing happen either. The mercy of humans is of a higher degree than that of any god we invent. I'm sorry for your loss - my father died the same way.

But she was able to suffer, and that suffering helped her. Your mother's reward was to die, so that she may be with the God she loved so much. It's hard to understand, to wrap your mind around things no human can fully understand.

You have been taught that suffering is good and dying is a reward. Those who taught you this had a deep vested interest in getting people to believe it. And you acknowlesge that "It's hard to understand, to wrap your mind around things no human can fully understand." Raven, those platitudes have been used to justify horrors perpetrated against subject peoples, children all over the world and anyone weak enough to fall victim to the Catholic Church.

I taught me this, Estelle. I read the books and learned about the saints, the Church's contributions towards society, etc. America wouldn't be America without the aids of people like Mother Cabrini, Peter de Smet, Katharine Drexel, and many others.

America wouldn't be America without a huge contribution from so many people that are not Catholic, also. You should read about them too. And be sure to read about the cruelties perpetrated by Catholic clergy against the innocent and weak. Suffering is NOT a reward, although you've been brainwashed to think it is. Even if you believe it, try to remember that others do not. It's not good form to congratulate others on the suffering of their loved ones.
