If you've been to a dog show, you probably know there are these strange creatures that "assess" and "evaluate" pooches and give them sub-par scores. I don't know what criteria they're using or even who they are, but the rascals must be mad—I've seen dogs and in my book, they're all immeasurably cute!
Luckily, there's an online project that agrees with me. It's called WeRateDogs and it does exactly what the name says. Started by Matt Nelson, it attaches witty captions to fan-submitted pictures of their pups, giving those fluffy ears, stubby paws, and pointy tails the praise they deserve. Oh, and a "grade" that exceeds the perfect 10, of course!
We at Bored Panda love this pure-hearted internet delight, and have already written about it here, here, and here, but Matt and his team keep themselves busy, so we have to keep up with them. Here's a new collection of their latest posts!

Nelson initially started WeRateDogs on Twitter just to brighten up people's feeds. But the account gained thousands of followers overnight, and that figure has kept climbing ever since. Currently, it stands at a whopping 9 million. Nelson was even able to turn the account into a business, selling merchandise and posting branded content.
"[I] got addicted to trying to make people laugh in that constrained character space," he told CNBC Make It. At that time, a tweet could contain only 140 characters.
As Nelson tweeted, he noticed that "every time I would post a picture of my dog or any content that had to do with dogs, it would do much better than my other content... That signaled that the internet loves dogs just as much as I did."

Load More Replies...Nelson launched WeRateDogs back in November 2015, when he was a college freshman at Campbell University in North Carolina. In fact, he released the account's first post from a local Applebee's, featuring the pup of the friend he was having dinner with.
By that night, Nelson received hundreds of messages from dog owners asking for their pups to be featured. At first, he also promoted WeRateDogs from his personal Twitter account, which had about 10,000 followers at the time but by the end of that week, it already passed him in followers.

Humphrey is from my home town of south shields in England. Sadly last year his owners posted that Humphrey had suddenly passed away. He was like the towns mascot and everyone would try and spot him outside his favourite ice cream shop minchellas.

Nelson became overwhelmed with juggling college, a job at a golf course, and his social media newborn pretty quickly. However, instead of selling his side hustle, he decided to drop out of college before his junior year and moved in with his parents in West Virginia to focus on WeRateDogs full-time.
Fortunately for Nelson, his parents and close friends were very supportive of this bold decision and believed he could continue growing WeRateDogs. His dad, an executive director of a law firm in Charleston, even helped Nelson manage the business' growth once he started raking in significant revenue.

I hate facilities that don’t let people keep their pets. How horrible is this? Such an old dog at the end of his life having to be separated from his human, who’s also at the end of their life. They are both stressed and depressed.

When we would visit my late MIL in her facility, I would take my chihuahua. While my husband visited with his mother I would walk around with the dog. It was amazing how much the residents perked up when they saw him. He got so much petting and he accepted it as his due.

If the human is too debilitated to walk the dog, etc., the only real choice is to rehome the animal. Happily, nursing facilities are much more open to pets visiting their former owners now.

I used to bring my mom's dog to the cancer ward where she was a patient. Tony, a brain cancer victim, just sat in a chair in horrible pain all day. He couldn't talk or do anything. I would put Buffy in his lap and he would actually smile and I'd help him pet her. I think it was the only joy he had left in his last days. It still makes me cry.

As I said in an above post: the people who put these sweet creatures through this deserve the death penalty or worse! Dogfighting is absolutely abhorrent. Glad to see this poor fellow rescued - you can see the fear in his eyes, but also that somehow, he knows he's safe there, and he passed somewhere safe, and I hope in the time he was there, he got to know true love from humans

It's worth the time to look up the dogs from this case, it's not hyperbole to say it changed US animal welfare. Rest In Peace, Frodo. Michael Vic, even though he did his time and paid for his crimes, really didn't. All those dogs he used, abused and destroyed, fought and treated horrifically, will never , in my mind and heart, have paid for his crimes. He is only sad and " remorseful" because he got caught. If he hadn't gotten caught and stopped, he be at it still today. This fact alone, tells me he will never care or be truly remorseful for his inhuman and inhumane treatment of another being on this earth.

All of the dogs except one were able to be quietly re-homed. Though being conditioned to fight they were no more vicious than any other dogs. Sadly, no amount of care or training was enough to relieve that one its instilled viciousness.

Several of my end of life dogs really enjoyed hot water bottle time... I'd put the achy ones in their beds, line them up and give them hot water bottles on their achy bits. They slept like little angels.

The weekly tradition started in 2016 after Nelson realized a dog he featured needed a wheelchair. The dog's owner asked for about $500, but after sharing the fundraiser, $700 was raised in just 45 minutes.

When I worked in the hospital if a patient's pet was up to date on their shots the family could bring them in to visit. The uplift felt at the nursing station was palpable and the patient got a visit from every staff person on the floor.

My senior saved me from a pitbull attack. Had the heart of a lion. He sent it packing with bite marks on its ass. Needless to say he got the key to my heart. He crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago but not from the fight.
