Some sources state this number is as low as 4, some go as high as 41. It all depends how many people you interact with per day, in a big city it's likely. If you interact with about 25 people per day for 70 years, you've likely encountered 10 murderers, based on statistics.

Anyone who has had CPR performed on them would be unable to get up and walk away. They all require further treatment and are hospitalized. I would extrapolate that statistics are compiled from their records. Even in hospital many do not survive, just speaking from experience.

If someone needs CPR, they are pretty much dead. Giving CPR is giving them a chance to live, even if it's a small chance. CPR isn't going to make things worse for them, so please don't let this statistic discourage you from giving CPR if you ever find yourself in such a situation. And I say this as someone who's life was saved in part because I was given CPR. My father's life was saved with CPR too. Both from nearby people who jumped in and started chest compressions immediately

The survival rate also depends on how quickly the person gets to hospital. Please support your local ambulance services and let ambulances through when their lights are flashing.

Don't be silly Of course BP does not fact check. It's a vehicle for advertisements filled with content from secondary and tertiary sources whose provenance is unknown or suspect. Their "editors" just copy paste some internet bits without any oversight, I assumed this was clear to everyone. This is an entertainment site, not an informstive one...

Yes, this should be taught at all CPR-courses. Without a defibrillator odds of sucess are slim. There is a reason the hearts stops and CPR is mainly to preserve cirkulation until deff arrives. Many who has failed to save someone with CPR is sad and thinks something is wrong. But in reality, you where just not one of the few lucky % to have a victim with the right issue for undeffed CPR to work on.

Most people aren't trained in CPR and do it wrong. Even doing it correctly causes damage most times, like the sternum getting broken. But doing nothing is worse. 911 operators can talk you through what to do if necessary.

That increases to around 20% if a defibrillator is used alongside effective CPR. Many public places such as high streets, libraries, shopping centres, schools, pubs and travel stations all have public AEDs available for emergency use by members of the public.

The percentage may be off but this is why defibrillators are important. Also you can guarantee I'll be trying to resuscitate. Even if is 1 percent thats a lot of lives that can be saved. Humans buy lottery tickets all the time and the odds are insane.

Wrong. "No: By "stopped" it is implied a complete absence of any rhythm or electrical activity, other wise known as, asystole. Defibrillation is the application of electricity to the heart to treat chaotic electrical transmission through the heart. This is seen in several rhythms atrial fibrillation/ flutter, ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia. Defibrillation does not treat asystole." https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/defibrillators

I wonder if this is due to there being too much damage already (what caused the event), being started too late, untrained/poorly trained application or people giving up too soon. Many people see in the movies if it doesn't work in a short time the doctors give up. In the real world you don't stop until medical help arrives.

"Works" in this statistic may only mean "was the difference between life and death". The other 93% would not necessarily have been deaths. It would include, for instance, cases where CPR was used but not actually necessary.
