I once worked at a private K-8 school where one of the kids was named Friend Lee Doctor. His mother had grand ambitions for her son to get his medical degree and would then be Dr. Friend Lee Doctor. In all other respects, she was a lovely woman and good mother. He was a smart, grounded, funny kid. But I wouldn't be surprised if he never went to medical school, and started asking people to call him Lee.

It stems from the way Welsh people used to name their children. There used to be the word ap in between the names which means son of. So Thomas ap Thomas means Thomas the son of Thomas. It is still pretty common in Wales.
