Ever since the dawn of the world wide web, the internet has proven to be one hell of a hectic place. Opposite things here coexist: the good and the bad, the real and fictional, the sad news and the good news, the upsetting side and its wholesome twin.
Speaking of which, few things can make our day brighter and mood lighter than browsing through that wholesome content. Awww, this is so precious. Liluna is the goodness girl ever 🥰 poor daisy though, I hope soon she grows out of this fear of hers. That's so sad to see, but she is very lucky to have Luna by her side. Such beautiful dogs they both are 🥰

The large-scale illegal trade in Asian pangolins is drastically driving down their numbers, and pangolin trafficking is now huge (and illegal) business. Even though pangolin scales are made of exactly the same stuff as your fingernails, they are being slaughtered by their thousands because some people believe that their scales have magical medicinal properties. In 2017, the government of Cameroon burned 8 tonnes of confiscated pangolin scales, which works out at around 15000 murdered animals.

It's past disgusting, cruel, insane and any other word you can think of that conveys just how inhuman this is. All because of superstition and irrationality of people. In this day and age!. I have no sense of mercy for poachers whatsoever. No fines. Yes jail, but you get to experience some pain before you go there. You're there for a LONG time. May get downvoted, but anyone who is caught poaching elephants, tigers and the like, no trial. You die on the very spot that animal did.

On the other hand, poachers are the ones coming from lowest incomes and sometimes having to do poaching due to lack of opportunities. Sometimes there is no other option; either you do this or starve or be terribly poor. That's the situation in developing countries. It's similar with any illegal industry; punishing the ones that have to do it because they have no other choice is not going to stop it or making it better. Those people are considered "dispensable" and will be easily replaced. Many other actions will be more positive: goverments introducing opportunity programs to poachers, educating people in general about the dangers of poaching, about this animal not having super healing powers, etc, dismantling the cartels that have the money, the connections and the resources, etc. Remember: every story has different versions. I am not defending the poachers, but it helps to understand their motifs and find a solution that can truly help them.

But this new wave of wholesomeness that emerged some time around 2016 has provided people with little pockets of positivity and good vibes, something that wasn’t really there before. First, it was on Twitter and Tumblr, then the wholesome memes, posts and pics followed. The wholesome content started advocating things like self-respect, hard work, active listening, healthy relationships, and balanced diets.

And it all makes sense: people crave good things, they look for assurance that after all, in the end, we are all deep down good people, willing to work together for the benefit of all. Just like people, dogs are not born to hate or attack. That's a learned behavior some @ss taught them. (Now, different breeds have different types of personalities - some more friendly than others - but to attack and harm is not born in a dog.

I'm so fortunate. Every night at bedtime, after I get in bed my wonderful kitty gets up on the bed beside me in the crook of my arm and she gets cuddles. She frequently turns to look up at me like this. So glad I rescued her and brought her to her furever home.

This is our president Michael D Higgins. He Was inseparable from his beautiful Dogs. They were called Bród a male and Síoda a female. Both have Irish names, with the name Bród meaning 'pride' and Síoda meaning 'silk'" Unfortunately Síoda died recently leaving the president as his wife utterly devastated 😭😭😭The dogs always followed him everywhere. Even at state events where he was meet presidents prime ministers and other foreign dignitaries. Where ever he goes the dogs go and he is just loved all the more for it. He is with out a doubt the best and most loved president Ireland has ever had.

I love the fact that those dogs made such an impression on the country as a whole, that there was a mural of Síoda painted somewhere in Dublin. And he has recently gotten a new addition, called Misneach and if that man and his dogs doesn't perfectly portray the love between a man and his dogs, then I don't know what would!

For anyone wondering... the pink one is an orchid mantis, the brown one is a ghost mantis, the dark green leaf is a hooded mantis, one of the more rare species in the mantis hobby, the stick one is a cat-eyed mantis, and the pale green leaf is a leaf insect. I've actually owned all of those insects except the hooded mantis.

We currently have a praying mantis that likes to hang out on one of our hummingbird feeders. Many of the hummingbirds don't like it - they're afraid of it, I guess. So I keep having to "relocate" him to a different spot. After a while, though, he returns. No clue why he likes hanging out on the feeder.

Some larger mantids have been known to attack and even eat hummingbirds. The mantis is probably on your feeder because of the pollinators like bees that are also attracted to it.

My cats would bring in snails and slugs stuck in their fur all summer. As a gardener, they made my job of eradicating these destroyers of plants easier.

I immediately thought, aha, an Albino penguin, but there isn't an absence of melanin. Found out it's leucism - some melanin production is occurring giving it the yellow hue and eyes.

This penguin is leucistic. It's a condition where there is reduced pigmentation. The penguin is not albino because they still have some coloration.

My sister and BIL have two Corgis, female a year older than her "brother;" goofy little things fought and snarled at each other whenever I went to their house, trying to establish who got to lie on my feet first. Probably wouldn't do that now that I've been gone for five years, and they're now seven-almost-eight, and six-almost-seven years old.
