Most of us have heard the old adage that Disney theme parks are the happiest places on Earth. Of course, it sounds positively magical when you say it like that, the phrase practically rolls off the tongue, and we kinda wish we’d come up with it.
However, things aren’t all sunshine and rainbows at Disneyland, Disney World, and all the other theme parks, large and small. In reality, there’s a lot more depth, effort, weirdness, and goofiness (pun very much intended) that goes into the experience than you’d think. At least according to the people who have actually worked or visited there.
Our team here at Bored Panda has collected some of the most interesting stories about Disney’s theme parks, as shared by former employees and customers, from all over Reddit and its dusty, cobwebbed archives. (We think we even met Indiana Jones along the way, but it could’ve been our imaginations.)
You’ll find the good, the bad, and the downright bizarre below, Pandas! Scroll down for some of the things that Disney ‘cast members’ (aka employees, but ‘cast members’ just sounds way cooler) love and hate about their jobs and the customers the most.
Bored Panda wanted to learn more about what lies at the core of job satisfaction, when we should think about switching careers, and what managers can do to be aware of any issues on their colleagues' minds, so we reached out to Kierra, a cloud engineer and Data Analytics consultant. Kierra helps people pivot into tech, especially data-related roles, and you can find her newsletter right here. Scroll down for our full interview with her.

I was Pocahontas, & I met a little girl named Emily. she was about 7 & with her dad. She came up & said, "Hi Pocahontas, I made you this card." I opened it & it said
"Dear Pocahontas, I drew some flowers for you. I hope you have a lovely day. Love, Emily."
I thanked her, & she left. Two days later, I was Silvermist, & guess who comes into Pixie Hollow? Emily. & she gave me a card:
"Dear Tinkerbell & her friends, I drew some flowers for you. I hope you have a lovely day. Love, Emily"
Her dad didn't recognize me, but I was excited to have two cards from the same girl. a few days later, I was Mulan, & GUESS WHO COMES UP TO ME?
So I said, before she started talking, "I know you , you're Emily! I heard you're really good at drawing flowers, all of my friends told me."
This girl's face lit up like the Fourth of July & she pulled a card out.
"Dear Mulan, Shang, & Mushu, I drew some flowers for you. I hope you have a lovely day. Love, Emily."
I have three cards for all three of my face characters from the same girl.
A memory this little girl will never forget. Her magic was widespread. :-)
This story is sweet and all but I would like to know what racist person in charge is casting someone who I'm guessing is of Asian decent (because Mulan and Silvermist both are) to play Pocahontas who is obviously indigenous.
Kierra told Bored Panda that employees should consider looking for a fresh new job or a change in their careers "when they’re bored, feel like they’re undervalued, or feeling like work is causing their mental/physical health to suffer." According to the expert, it's difficult to be certain if it's ever the right thing to do, but it's vital that workers stand up for themselves.
"I think it’s rare to feel certain [about career change], especially when your financial stability is on the line but it’s important that you always advocate for yourself, even when it might not feel 'great,'" she said.
Something that managers can do to become more aware of any potential needs or concerns in the team is to consistently check in with their employees. Open and consistent communication is a powerful tool in their arsenal. "Asking at least biweekly will allow them to learn how each individual on their team works and what is important to them in their career. This can help the manager to adjust what goals and tasks the people they manage should work on… to get the best out of their role and to maximize their career."
I was in line at Disney Land California with a group of Japanese teenage tourists were ahead of me in line. I speak Japanese, so I could understand that they were making fun of Americans. They were mostly saying things to the effect of "On TV they seem so cool, but all of these Americans are so fat and ugly." They were laughing and even occasionally pointing at people. I was just staying quiet but then one of the cast members who evidently also spoke Japanese walked up to them and told them in perfect Japanese "You guys should really be careful, most Americans can speak Japanese." They all froze up and looked around at people, many of whom were giving them dirty looks. I nodded at them like I was backing him up, and they were horrified.
I never understood the idea of talking trash out loud. There's always the possibility of someone understanding you. If you want to make fun of people, at least do it quietly so no one else can hear.
Yeah! Many years ago when we had just moved to Britain from South Africa and my gran was over for a visit, we were on the tube and one of our fellow passengers...had a terrible odour. Aloud and in Afrikaans my nan started to complain about this and remark that someone smelled like decaying roadkill. Now see, the thing is, she spoke hardly any English, Afrikaans was her go-to language. Still, I told her that she should quiet down, in London people spoke many languages. Best thing? A woman seated behind her turned and tapped her shoulder. In perfect Afrikaans she said "Wel dis nie ek wat stink nie!" ( Well it's not me that stinks!) 😂
Load More Replies...Had this happen in Paris. Mom and I were shopping, speaking English to each other. I overheard one of the employees say to another that she really wished the "stupid Americans" would learn some French before visiting. I knew enough from my high school French to tell her that some of us did.
There's a Disneyland in Tokyo. Did they just go to California to make fun of Americans?
My favorite story like this was a man ran a shop when two ladies walked in and began speaking Russian. One of them was being very rude, and the other told her that she should be careful, because the man might speak Russian. The first scoffed and said, "He doesn't speak Russian!" and the man without looking up casually said in Russian, "He does." They were so embarrassed they immediately left.
This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine thinks the manicurists are talking shiit about her in Korean, so she brings in George’s father (who speaks Korean) to spy. Spoiler alert…they were
lol, our bunch do this overseas as well, assuming people don't understand afrikaans.
I think anyone in a country with a different language to their own does this.
Load More Replies...According to Kierra, job satisfaction can be a very individual thing. However, there are some common tendencies. "Most would probably say money since it’s needed for survival, but there are many people who are out there doing what they love even though it might not pay well. In reality, I think people want to work a job where they feel appreciated and heard in all aspects (from career goals, innovative ideas, compensation, etc)," she told Bored Panda.
Meanwhile, she noted that managers and the company itself play important roles in helping maintain long term job interest. "Perhaps one should try to find roles where there’s lots of opportunity for growth and internal transfer in the event you would like to try something else," she suggested what employees can do on their part.
So my friend went to the parks dressed as Anna, and this was Anna’s reaction upon spotting her in the crowd
Disneyland has a rule adult guests can't wear character costumes. Halloween or ?
Disneybounding. You create an outfit "inspired by" a character. Characters can tell who you're dressed as if you do it well. Look it up, people are so creative!
Load More Replies...Disney’s ‘cast members’ do a very wide variety of tasks, from serving food and greeting the guests to giving people tours and aiding anyone in need of a friendly face or a helping hand. Though MVOrganizing states that 87 percent of employees are proud to work for The Walt Disney Company, reality is reality and no job is perfect.
Working for Disney has its own upsides, downsides, and frustrations, like any other vocation. For many employees, working at theme parks means working with customers. And it’s like any other customer service job, albeit with a light coating of fairy dust and probably more smiles and laughter than average. What this means is simple: the customers you have to deal with can make or break your day. While most customers are bound to be decent, polite, and empathetic, you’ll probably still deal with some rude ones from time to time.
overnight cast memeber here. Please PLEASE leave your cremated loved ones at home. stop dumping them in Haunted Mansion. They just get vacuumed up and disposed of.
I swear next time I go to Disneyland I'm bringing dust from my vacuum and leaving it there.
Why hate? Some people specifically ask to be scattered at odd places. Could be a Haunted Mansion fan.

That’s so sad that people do that, Disney is no place to spread ashes of a loved one no matter how much they loved Disney.

The woman came up to me and told me that she didn’t like the wet stuff coming from the sky and that I should tell my boss to turn it off. At first, I laughed because I thought she was kidding, which only pissed her off more.
“Don’t they know that this stuff ruins people’s vacations?” She said.
“We have no way of controlling the rain, ma’am. This is Florida and we get quick storms like this in the summer, but it might go away after a while,” I said.
“What about the bubble?” She said.
I was thoroughly confused by what she meant by bubble so I had to ask that she was saying “bubble.”
Apparently she thought that all of Disney was under a big bubble and we controlled the weather, like Risa on Star Trek.
I confirmed that there was no bubble, that this was the real deal.
She walked away insisting that something should be done about it.
Something tells me she is thinking of the logo. Doesn't Walt Disney have a shooting star over the castle? Maybe she thought that was part of it, a giant 'bubble' over disney!
This is frightening. This is an example of the caliber of voters and poor education.
I work at a zoo and have had more people than I wish to count ask me if the weather is the same inside the zoo as it is in the rest of the city...
I would have said that Donald Trump made them dismantle the dome for materials to build the wall and just sat back to watch her head explode
It’s too bad you have to be nice to customers. Some of them are entitled and oblivious
People sexually harass the characters super frequently. I was working with Ariel and cast members will always count down before they take a photo so people have time to get into position. I counted down and this teen boy decided to try to rip off one of Ariel's shells. I had to open his camera and expose his film so the photo didn't get developed and passed around. I found out later that I was supposed to take it to the Kodak shop to have the film developed and that one removed - but I'd always heard the rumors about ruining the film and nobody really trains you on that so I just went with it.
If the worst he experienced was having all of his photos ruined instead of just the bad one removed, he is lucky. I can't believe something like that doesn't get you booted from the park, and I can't believe that people still treat women like toys instead of humans.
I think it'S the least thing that should happen - and for today, maybe the cellphone thrown in the lake. this kind of behaviour should never be tolerated in any way
Load More Replies...So policy is that you get the photos developed, your co-worker from the Kodak *see* that photo that should have not been taken?? Yes, I would do the same you did.
It should be a rule that if a person willfully assaults a character, the character gets to slap the ever-loving s#!t out of them.
Omgosh I wish you could hear some of the stories that cast members have to put up with. I’ve been going to Disneyland since 1956. I’ve had several friends who worked there and a lot that still do. I wish I had a book of the incidents 😄
Load More Replies...I would ruin the film too. That's what you get for assaulting someone
You did the right thing. Glad no one had to develop that photo in order to remove it, and I hope he was embarrassed as hell having his day's photography work as ruined in public as that poor character actor's sense of safety. (There were probably other pics on that roll of film people hadn't consented to, so you could have been a hero twice over.)
Alexander Kjerulf from Positive Sharing previously told Bored Panda that employees should “keep their cool” if they ever meet a rude customer.
“Remember that whatever abuse they’re giving you is no reflection on you as a person. That customer doesn’t even know you, so there’s no way it could be. But on the other hand, don’t be subservient. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and tell customers that abuse is not tolerated. And if it persists, hand them over to a manager as soon as you can and let them deal with it.”
My whole day gets improved when someone says thank you and uses my name and actually acknowledges that I am a human being
I was loading up on Space mountian (my first time ever), so I waved good bye to the bar check lady. We stopped near her, and was like oops, thought we were going. She just said " It's nice to be recognised as a person for once" Thats gonna stay with me
I think every human being on the planet should do a stint in Food and/or Retail services at least once in their lives. Teach them patience and humility.
Wish I could upvote you more than once! The few people I've known who were condescending or nasty to such workers unilaterally believed themselves to be bulletproof from ever having such jobs themselves: grown-up spoiled brats, business majors, fine examples of humanity like that. They would also go five-alarm nuclear if their precious butts spent even half an hour being treated the way they treated people they saw as "lesser".
Load More Replies...There is something strange that must happen to some people when they are dealing with people who are in a customer service job that makes them think it’s ok to treat the workers horrendously. I think everyone should have to work a customer service job at least once in their teens/early 20s so that they know how it feels to be treated like that
In cases where it would destroy their overblown self-esteem, it should be considered an alternative to a prison sentence.

Were did it say these are workers? I'm just terrible with names (and people in general, but I try and tgat's important), so I never use names to avoid saying the wrong nane
Plus if they don't tell you their name they might forget they are wearing a name tag and feel creeped out and think I stalk them if i use their name so I'll stick with just please and thank you.

This couple were trying to ride Space Mountain, and had a black duffelbag. He heard something come from the bag, so he asked them to open it. They refused. Security comes, forces them to open it. It was their 6 month old baby.

I worked at a restaurant in Downtown Disney in California as a host. James Spader came in once, tried to get a table with his dog. Who was obviously not a service dog (and even if it was an emotional support dog, they don’t have to be legally allowed inside a restaurant.) I told him I would be happy to seat him if he left his dog at the Kennel, right across the esplanade, but I could not seat his dog inside - what if a health inspector came in? He yelled at me so much, his face turned red. He told my manager to fire me. Luckily, the restaurant had a patio, and the manager sat Spader at a table on the patio closest to the exit so we wouldn’t get in trouble. My manager actually stood up for me, told Spader I was right. Spader still tried to get me fired. This was 10 years ago, I still hate James Spader with a red hot passion. Such an entitled a**. And since he always plays a**holes, I know he’s not even a good actor. However, Christian Slater was very polite when he came in.
I love his characters, but one can never tell what the actor is like in reality.
These days, word gets around -- I've seen consistent stories about James Spader being an entitled jerk, though the above story is definitely the worst one I remember.

Service animal: medical alert dog, seeing eye dog, hearing dog, etc. Emotional support animals are NOT service animals, they DO NOT fall under DACA. Service Dogs fall under DACA and they enter wherever the person they are supporting enters.
I wish I could upvote this comment 1000x. I also wish people weren't asshats and try to pass of their pets as service dogs. I also wish people weren't so dense that they don't understand that a real service dog is allowed to go WHEREVER their owner goes!!!!

According to Alexander, not everyone who’s rude to you is a bad person. “You have to remember that in many cases a customer who behaves badly is not necessarily a bad person—it can be a good person having a bad day and that’s why they’re acting out. But the sad truth is that some customers act this way because they’ve learned that it works and will get them discounts or preferential treatment,” he said.
Not me, but I witnessed this happen to a fellow CM. She was ringing up a guest for an item and he looked a little upset. She did the Disney thing and asked, "how's everything been going sir? Happiest place still the happiest?" He responded with "no, something happened today." "What's wrong? What happened?" She asked. "I wanted to get my Mickey ears embroidered, but they wouldn't do it," he replied. She inquiries, "what did you want embroidered on it?" "I wanted it to say, 'God Hates Gays,' but those pricks said it was against policy." he said bitterly.
She wasn't so nice to him after that.
Yes, the famous "I hate the Gays" speech Jesus gave on the mount, presumably while chugging beer, smoking a cigar, and leering at women. I bet the guy in this story calls himself a Christian, when he in fact worships the Devil in every way.

Woman inappropriately touches Gaston
No matter what the gender, harassment is harassment. It's sickening that she seems very proud of it and I suppose, posting it on Tiktok or something.
If Gaston had walked up and grabbed her chest he'd go to jail. Complete double standard. I see it all the time. People complaining about "men being men" and objectifying women etc, and in the next breath the same people will call a handsome guy a "stud" and talk about all the things they'd do with him. It goes on and on right down to "short" guys being undatable because of nothing but a bad genetic lot in life.
Load More Replies...Gross gross gross. Sexual harasser. Bet you she wouldn't think of herself that way but yes, that's what she did. No one is your toy, hands off. That poor guy
What gives her the right to touch him like that?! Harassment is harassment, no matter the gender. Disgusting
He tells her multiple times to stop and she keeps going like it's hilarious
After she refused to stop after being told to keep her hands off, I think he should have reached out a grabbed her chest in the same manner and asked her how she likes it.

I saw this tiktok and am so happy Gaston stood up to her and told her to hit bricks. In no way was that okay
He should grab her chest and see how she reacts. Just because someone works at an establishment, does NOT give customers carte Blanche to molest the workers.
I hate to say this but she might not mind him doing it to her.

I saw this video, she groped him and he got real serious and yelled, Leave, Leave now! She still didn't seem to realize what she had done.
My friends and I were there in June, and waiting to meet Gaston. There was a little girl ahead of us, dressed as Belle, and plainly terrified. Like, she did NOT want to meet Gaston. Her mother, meanwhile, was yelling at her for running around in her dress, and for getting it "dirty" and was just being awful. Gaston comes out, and it's the little girl's turn, and she's FREAKING out. Crying, trying to go anywhere else, all to no avail. Her mother is being an a** and yelling at her to meet Gaston and behave, with a nasty look on her face, and then smiling, all charm, to an increasingly worried Gaston. Everyone in the line was muttering at this point, wondering if interfering was the right thing to do to help this crying child. Gaston, however, handled it wonderfully. He flipped through the book the little girl was holding and was incredibly nice, and told her she had nothing to be afraid of. He calmed her down, and the person with Gaston was talking to the mother. It was an awful experience because the parks are supposed to be magical for the kids, and this mother was AWFUL. Berating the girl for being a little girl and running around, and not understanding why she didn't want to meet characters.
These character players are such pros. And I don't think they are generally treated well by their employers, let alone staff. I've never been to Disney land, but met a few costume mascots in my childhood, my favourite was cookie bear (mascot for griffin biscuits). I asked him why he wasn't talking but they glossed over that, and he doesn't talk on the ads so that was ok in my wee mind ^-^
I would love to be able to get a message to whoever was in the Tigger costume at Disney in Orlando in July 2012. I was the 31 year old on her honeymoon having a bit of a meltdown (literally) in the heat, as well as a few other issues. We were off the main path, just near where the characters come out and go to wherever it is they're doing that hour's photo op thing. We were literally the only guests in the area, and I was huddled and having a bit of a cry. It can't have been easy to spot us in whatever vision is available through the character head, but Tigger did, and waved enthusiastically. And that turned my day (and my entire holdiay) around. You're right, they aren't treated nearly well enough for the magic they genuinely bring.
Load More Replies...What's more remarkable about these character players being pros is that they themselves are YOUNG people. Young, smart, educated, empathic, decent young adults, who were brought up properly, and taught manners and empathy from a young age. They should be commended.
Assuming the kid has seen the movie, I'm not really surprised Belle would be scared of Gaston, the guy's a sexist, violent beast. And (spoilers) he's supposed to be dead!
Parents with FOMCMO. fear of my child missing out, which is really just an extreme version of projection. Security should get involved in those cases. I bet at Disney its way too common
Lived in Orlando and frequented Disney. Couldn't count the number of sweaty, angry parents dragging their screaming children around. You could read the look on the parents' faces: "I don't care if it's 104 degrees, this is costing $5 a minute to breathe and you WILL have fun". Go at night and not until they're old enough to make themselves a sandwich.
The worst bully in the world is a parent who has a firm idea of how their child should be and that’s so sad when you see it happen.I’m glad she was able to have a good time with Gaston.
My daughter loved Goofy and all the female characters in costume, but she wasn't comfortable with the males. Maybe they were so hyper-masculine and exaggeratedly macho.
I'm guessing the actors probably have to get some training on dealing with children for their roles. But he did incredibly well.
They get lots of training. Ive seen so many wonderful interactions of kids with the characters. But the training also deals with adults. You’d be surprised (or maybe not) how many adults act like complete idiots with a character.

‘Inside the Magic’ applauds the ‘cast members’ for all the extra effort that they put into their jobs, pointing out that they’re what make the entire experience more magical for the customers.
“Cast Members treat guests in a way that makes us feel so appreciated, special, and welcome—as though Disneyland (and every other Disney park in the world) truly is our land, like Walt himself put it,” ItM writes. “Cast Members can go above and beyond to help guests have the best day ever when we’re at the parks. And while many Disney guests have grown to expect the Disney level of service on every vacation, Cast Members can always surprise us. Even the simplest, smallest gestures go a long way.”
When doing meet and greet with Ariel, the people right in front of us were 4 college age guys. One of them asked for a hug then went in and squeezed both of her "clamshells".
That´s so aweful! They are working there to entertain kids, not to get s3xually assaultet by anyone...
She must see those older 'kids' when they are in the queue, and think to herself, "Oh no, here we go again..."
That’s awful I would have called security but not before slapping the crap out of him
That is any sane person’s reaction, but unfortunately she can’t because that would ‘ruin the disney magic’ and ‘ruin the little mermaid’ for lots of little kids
Load More Replies...Times like that we might wish there were really loud alarms installed in the clamshells.
Surey, the employee characters have training for what to do when something like this sexual harassment happens???
They do. Lots of training. And not only the characters. All cast members receive training on how to handle bad situations. I’m not sure how long ago this particular episode was but Disney did hire “assistants” more like body guards to interfere in bad situations. So maybe this was prior to the time the assistants were hired. I guess a better term would be handlers.

I worked at one the Restaurants in MK. I had a family abandon their adult son, who was in a wheelchair with a slew of health complications, in the middle of our walkway while they went on rides. He was there for about 2-3 hours.
I worked in a Lost Child tent at an event once. I was told lots of parents "lose" their children on purpose because they know they'll get a free crèche. Very sad.
What should make you sad are these comments full of people infantilizing an adult man. No one here knows him or what his actual needs are. The OP cast member is not a medical professional. They have no authority to speak on behalf of his health. It doesn't matter what his disability is- unless he was showing legitimate signs of distress and was in clear danger: there was absolutely nothing wrong. He was most likely very aware of why he was alone and was perfectly fine with it. Because you know... as an adult- even IF he is non verbal, he is capable of participating in the decision to let his family go on rides without him.
Load More Replies...Now that is a terrible thing to do to a person. I would call that handicap abuse and report them to the cops
Lisa, Please see the comment I made five days ago in regards to this. Because although you may mean well, calling the authorities is the very last thing you should do. Unless you are a medical professional, you have no idea what this person's needs actually are. Calling the authorities when you do not know the person's needs takes away their autonomy. Even non verbal people have the right to make decisions for themselves, and if he was left by his family and wasn't showing a single sign of distress (perceived medical conditions or not), then he was aware of why he was alone and was fine with it. Please try and keep in mind that the dynamics in a family with disability are different from that of able bodied people, and they deserve the public's respect in regards to knowing what's best for each other. I mean, the OP did say that he was an adult. Medical conditions or not, he deserves to be treated like one.
Load More Replies...That poor guy why would they do that to him? They should have hired a carer for him so that they could do the rides that he couldn’t but still allow him to enjoy his holiday as well. I bet they still used him to get as many perks as possible like being at the front of the parade route of getting into rides faster like the virtual reality sims
I'm sorry Jackie, but your comment has left me rather upset. My partner and I were on vacation, and as she is a wheelchair user, the number one assumption made was that I was her care person, not her girlfriend. --- and who are you to decide what would be enjoyable for him? Who's to say he wasn't happy people watching while they went on rides? You are assuming this adult man was incapable of understanding the situation just because the OP said the words "severe medical conditions" a very vague description used when a person is making a judgment based on their perception and not reality. Please stop infantilizing strangers and making horrible assumptions in regards to the character of others based on a brief paragraph shared on the internet.
Load More Replies...My partner's in a wheelchair with "severe health complications". But she's perfectly capable of making up her own mind about things. So my first thought? "Health complications or not... how did he feel? Maybe he didn't mind. Maybe he was cool to sit and people watch while they went on rides?" Unless you talk to the adult in the wheelchair, you have no idea what is or is not acceptable in this situation. I wish people would stop judging these situations unless you have all of the details. Given that there is not enough information provided (and there couldn't be because said cast member is not a doctor, nurse or care provider), all that this comes across as is infantilization.
I'm a full time wheelchair user and have a lot of medical issues but my brain still works and I can think for myself. Like you I'm angry people instantly assumed the worst and didn't think that maybe the man was totally fine people watching and waiting for his parents to enjoy the ride. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have risked leaving him in front of 1000's of people if it wasn't legit.
Load More Replies...So, when you noticed he'd been left there for so long, did you go over and bring him an iced drink, or a snack, or a smile, or check on him (bc of his slew of health complications), did you try to do anything at all to make sure he was alright? It is HOT here in FL, all year, at the MK.
I think they should have, and maybe they did, bring him a cup of cold water. Anything else could be a problem due to his medical issues.

In recent news, Shanghai Disneyland had temporarily shut its gates when a visitor to the theme park tested positive for Covid-19. The BBC reports that all visitors and staff members were being tested for coronavirus. “Health workers in protective suits examined them as fireworks went off around the park's landmark castle.”
We had a lady try to smuggle an infant onto Indy at DL one time. She put a huge jacket on (in the summer) and stuffed her child down near the bottom in an attempt to look pregnant.
Several cast members warned her that it is not recommended that pregnant women go on the ride, but she insisted, and we couldn't stop her. So she manages to get on the Jeep, and puts the seat belt on, and that was when her stomach started screaming and crying.
Seriously I hope someone called CPS. Or even the cops, get that kid away from her while it's young.
WTF how stupid she is. People should have to have some type of license stating they are fit to be a parent before having a baby
Terrible ride to begin with. Very bumpy. I felt like I was getting a concussion!

One woman came up and asked where the bathrooms were, so I told her. She then decided that the line was too long so she tried to just pull down her pants and pee in the lobby. Security came VERY quickly!
My sisters, Disney fanatics, have witnessed quite a few ridiculous and/or disgusting things. One year they saw a group of people in line for the People Mover gather around their one friend who then squatted & pooped on the ground right there in line. Yep. My dogs have better control over their bodily functions than some people!
I agree this was awful, but it’s also awful that women have to spend so much time in restroom lines.

I once got yelled at for not speaking Spanish because apparently "Veronica" is a Spanish name... I am the palest ginger I know...
This is as stupid as disrespectful. Plus, ''Veronica'' exist in plenty different languages
Yeah... You know there's Spanish speakers that are also ginger and pale, right?
Yes. And Verónica is a common Spanish name in Spain. It's also a thing that toreros do wth their cape.

I got yelled at when I was working a Spanish Harlem (NY) by this little old lady because I didn't speak Spanish when she addressed me. She thought it was disrespectful that young Latinas/Latinos don't know Spanish these days. I had to calmly explain to her that I am not Afro-Latina. I am a light skinned African-American woman and she was Dominican. I thought it was hilarious, I wasn't offended at all because in truth, I definitely look like I could be a Latina.
Yes, it is a variant of victoria, and was first recorded in roman north africa in the 4th century. It's def. not spanish though.

there was this man that had scissors on him. Not sure how he got passed security with that. He approached a little girl from behind with the scissors drawn and cut the string of her balloon.
Something similar happened years ago in wdw. They didn’t cut the string, just yanked it from the kid’s hand and let it fly away. Couple of teens if I recall. Security was there super fast and they were escorted out of the park while a cm gave the kid several new balloons and some treats.
I was at Food and Wine in early September, and it was HOT and HUMID. A child was SCREAMING in his stroller because he was on the brink of passing out from the heat, and his parents were ignoring him while they got beer from a booth. After they got their beer, the mom casually gave him a sip of water from a water bottle. It broke my heart.
Kids on the brink of passing out don't scream. The kid could have been screaming for any number of reasons, and sometimes the best parenting is in fact not engaging with a tantruming child.
Yea, my toddler will scream, stop breathing, and pass out for a second if he's in a mood and I wouldn't let him eat trash off the ground or lick the dog. No way someone on the sidelines could accurately guess what's going on and would likely incorrectly attribute it to something they can see. Three pediatricians have said best thing to do is not acknowledge that behavior and focus on rewarding good behavior. Easy for others to see and judge that we are just neglectful tho
Load More Replies...Yes, they can, but that doesn't sound like what is going on here. A baby, or anyone really, in medical distress from overheating is going to be lethargic, not screaming. This just sounds like a kid having a tantrum for any of a million reasons and a passerby being incredibly judgmental of the parents.

A few years ago I was going round a car boot sale and it was really sunny and hot out. Don’t think it was even 11am yet. A couple passed with a kid in a pushchair. I think they were grandparents. Kid was crying so hard. Poor thing was in a t-shirt and shorts and his skin was bright red from sunburn :( I don’t think any sun cream had been applied at all.
Disneyland must be the place all the neglectful and abusive parents take their kids so they can live out their childhood instead.
That's happened to me before but it was in the car, and my parents were actually responsible by rolling down the windows and giving me cold water
Poor baby. Why don't they test people to see if their going to be good parents?
Thank yous in any form will always be appreciated, especially right now. It’s not stupid, we can’t really accept money and many people throw away edible gifts (not me tho lol) so a thank you card is perfectly acceptable.
You used to be able to go to guest services and fill out an “applause o gram” that got them recognition and other nice things. It even goes in their employee file that someone took the time to do this.
This is a wonderful idea! Maybe more companies and employers should do this!

Whenever I see one of the employees in a white uniform I always, always tell them what a great job they’re doing in keeping the park so clean and fresh. It’s gotta be one of the hardest jobs there.
We are talking Disney, right? How would one send a Thank you card to Pluto?
If Pluto was exceptionally good that day you could fill out the card and it would be fairly easy to find out who played the character at that time.

Very few people actually deviate from their regular percentage unless the service was over-the-top outstanding or spectacularly bad. I tip 30% almost always. Even if the service is the worst, they'll get 20% from me. Conversely, some people tip 15% no matter what, and some people don't tip at all and yet others will leave 50% every time. My point is, any manager who bases an employee's performance on tips is a fool and has no business running a restaurant because they don't understand the nuances of why people tip or people in general. And if they don't understand their customers they most definitely don't understand their servers.

I lose count of how many times I was in a very long line and the person who was next was oblivious and surprised when it was their turn to go next. And then fumbled around for minutes because they weren't ready. So many people are idiots.

I was at the end of the queue admitting guests to the show building when I see this 6 or 7 year old kid crying saying he doesn't want to go in. It's dark. It's loud. It's not safe. Oh great I think to myself, gonna have to let them in the side door so the kid doesn't have to go through the ride. NOPE But wait... usually the dads just drag them in anyways against their will. This one does it with some serious flair though. Dad, as he holds the kid's hand, walks in the building saying "OH YES, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE. IT'S QUITE LIKELY. IT'S A TORNAAAAAAAADO OF DOOOOOOOM". Etc. Etc. Etc. 10 minutes later I see them walking out and the kid is hyped up. He has just had a great time. He wants to do that again.
Quite common for kids, they may not wanna do it but at the end, they are always like “i wanna do it again!”
I went on a log ride at Disneyland once as a kid and at the end apparently said “That sceared me to deaf! Can we do it again?”
Load More Replies...This is a great tactic for many things that scare kids. I used to tell my son that when he needed a shot I would be sure for them to use the 5 ft long needle that is as thick as his arm, we would then discuss how they would be able to use it etc , we would get so silly he would forget the fear.
Sometimes doing it that dad's way works, depending on the kid, because they realise they're taking the piss and makes it less scary and more funny.
I don’t like how they cropped it, but OP was talking about Revenge of the Mummy at universal
We were in the queue for Tiki Room and the woman in front took off her shorts, stood in her not very full underwear then put a fresh pair of shorts on,.. in front of 10 people.
When I read that the words jumbled a bit and I saw “stood in her not very fresh underwear” and I’m here thinking “What does that even look like? Ew”
So what? I experienced this pretty often in several situations. Maybe Germans are a bit more open minded?
Yeah, same. I mean, if she'd peed on the ground, I'd be pretty upset. But she still HAD underwear on and just changed pants - probably something spilled? - and I find that completely acceptable. If she is fine with everyone seeing her knickers, why should the 10 people bother?

Got asked about putting the dome up when it was raining
I grew up in western Washington ( south of Seattle ) where it stereotypically rains all the time, but I never really appreciated how used to it I was until we went to Disney World. As we were walking along one day, all of a sudden people started running around, ducking into the buildings. It literally took me over a minute of looking around, confused, wondering what the heck was going on, before I realized that they were trying to get out of the rain. I'm just so used to it raining all the time that it never crossed my mind that it would be something to run away from.
Maybe they think that there is a dome because of the opening sequence of Disney movies, Tinkerbell flies over Cinderella's Castle???
Can't blame um, they saw what happened to that other witch when she got wet.
I once made a joke to someone about being sick of the rain and I would be so glad when we could get a dome over our city. Idiot took me seriously and started to explain how that wouldn't happen. Face palm!
When I went to Disney world I loved the random rain showers as they refreshed me and then your dry in about 10 mins after it stops. It’s not even cold so,I don’t get why people complain about
I think it was space mountain, this little girl In front of me was complaining she had to go to the bathroom. They were front of the line so her parents didn't want to leave the line. They argue an eventually the girl squats down and s**ts on the ground. She then pick up her turd and holds it up to her moms face. If that isn't enough her mom then proceeded to puke all over the ground. The little girl looked like we was about 8...
if shes that old,she prolly knew what she was doing somewhat which makes me scared for her home life.... at the same time maybe thats just lookin too much into it and the parents thought she could hold it for the ride... hope thats it
Trying to hold anything on ride is a bad idea.
Load More Replies...As a space mountain cast member at wdw, we all would rotate positions every 45 minutes. I was at load (where people start the ride) and this guy was very nervous in line, arguing with his friends in another language (maybe Portuguese?). He got on the rocket, even though he seemed nervous and before I sent him off, I made sure he wanted to go. He nodded and continued into light speed (27 mph btw). After a few minutes, the ride was emergency stopped and a code that was familiar but I couldn’t recognize was called over the intercom. I saw my supervisor sprinting downstairs to the doors to the ride. He has gotten off the ride. You see, at the beginning of the ride, you are going pretty slow as you climb the coaster. He had just decided to get off. The creepy part of this story is that we all searched the building for about an hour (lights on, about 50 people searching) and no one found him. So this man got off the ride, went down about 200 steps, and somehow found the exit- never to be seen by us again.
People in the reddit post were calling this out as bs because you can't just get off the ride. There are restraints. I'm calling it out because he supposedly had friends with him, but where were they? Did the whole group of them get off and disappear? Or were they just content to never see their buddy again?
I was working at a cash register in Pop Century and I watched a woman in an electric scooter pin a small child between her and the register. Somehow she didn't notice his loud screams and tried to continue about her business until she had to be told to move because she was crushing a child.

I’ve only encountered them a couple of times but they managed to find me on Facebook just based off my name tag info.
Some people have trouble expressimg themselves, they don't have to be harmful. But I don't know where exactly you work and what you wear, because that can say a lot about what kind of people you get

Fake service dogs. Don’t bring your dog to the parks and slap a fake vest on it knowing that the cast members won’t stop you. We went recently and I saw quite a few misbehaving dogs that their Karen owners were ready to fight about. One in particular had a tattered vest covered in patches. None of the patches had any mention of the animal being a service dog.
Yeah, well, blame it on your government. If there aren't protected rules about what is and is not a service dog, and you can't ask about it or refuse entry, people will take advantage of it. Here it's simple. A dog that is not trained in anything but just brings you comfort, is a PET. That is what all dogs do! If it is trained to help you with your PTSD, autism, alerting for low sugar, seizures, or helping a physically disabled person, etc; that's a service dog.
There ARE laws about service animals, but a normal person working entry at a theme park isn't going to be trained to tell when a person is lying about their service animal and faking papers. It isn't the government's fault; it's the fault of people who take advantage of a practice meant to help people with disabilities, just like able-bodied people who fake or buy handicap parking passes.
Load More Replies...We’ve seen people throwing food to the dogs with the express purpose of getting the fakers thrown out. A real service animal is obvious when seen based on their behavior. When we see the food flying, we always get our cameras out and enjoy the show. It typically ends with the dog running all around and security escorting the owners out for having a disruptive dog. On the flip side, I have seen real service animals entirely ignore all food thrown to or at them to make them act out. That’s part of their training. “This is work time, and I need to be good.”
I've been legally blind my entire life, so I know what it's like to have a service dog for the blind, or to know how to use a white cane. My opinion is, there are some places you just don't want/need to bring your service dog with you. Sometimes it is easier, and more convenient, and safer, to just use a long white cane to get around! I would never take my service dog to any of those huge them parks, ever!!
I knew someone once in the same position, they didn't take their guide dog into big crowds either - not because the dog couldn't take it but because too many people & children wouldn't respect that the dog was working & not there to be petted & fussed over!
Load More Replies...Where I live, only the certified Guide dogs (also known as seeing eye dogs) accompanying blind or visually impaired persons are allowed to enter everywhere with its owner.
This SO should be regulated! Our farmers' market is full of dogs, who clearly are not proper service dogs, just super-entitled owners. As far as I understand it, the workers at the market are not allowed to ask about the alleged disability. And I've seen dogs pee on produce. Disgusting.
During my last visit to Epcot, I watched a kid attempt to do some parkour. He jumped down from the bridge near France onto a prop box and fell through it.
I have luckily not witnessed too much. Just your average entitled parents complaining about one thing or another that is way out of the control of the CM that was on the receiving end of the tantrum.
The one that gets to me the most is the whole "Do you have any idea how much money I'm spending here?" attitude. Seriously dude. 50,000 people here at any given moment. But YOU are the most special because you are "spending so much money"
We had a rich guest come in to Club 33 (super secret yet not so secret restaurant in New Orleans Square) for the first time I believe and he wanted a private room and some Disney princesses to "have fun with" and wondered if any of the hostesses or waitresses were interested when we told him we could not accommodate him.

It broke my heart but a lot of people like to dump ashes on rides and it literally just gets vacuumed up at the end of the night.
Some people still want their loved ones to have their loved ones' remains in "the most magical place on earth"... Surprise, it's a company and those remains will just be cleaned away
I think Disney should release photos of their garbage bins to show people where those remains end up. Might make people think twice.
Someone I used to work with would keep a tiny notepad in her pocket and make a "shopping list" of cool shirts and hats and bags and stuff she saw guests wearing lol
A lot of cast members, especially from the college program, are there because they're big fans.
The Reddit sub question was, “Cast Mates: are you instructed or encouraged to compliment guest Disney apparel?” What BP has culled from the responses are just a tangent, often a fifth or sixth reply, to other tangents.
When you show up out of nowhere asking for free tickets:
I don't get this. You have to drive into the park just to park your car in a huge parking lot that is so large, they have to come around with trams to pick you up and bring you to the ticket area. It costs a LOT of money just to park! So how/why are these people saying there are those who come out of nowhere asking for free tickets? It costs money just to pass the first gate at the perimeter of the park! This makes no sense!!
What like absolutely free? Not even paying back in clout? No mention to their followers on social media? How rude.
When I worked on Space Mountain circa 2003, Tom Cruise came on Space Mountain with his then-girlfriend Penelope Cruz and her family. His group gets on the ride, they go have fun, and they come back to the station. As is standard procedure, we asked if they wanted to stay in the car and ride again. This is so they dont have to get out, just to immediately reboard. (star privilege!) We dispatch the car, and as it starts to move forward, Penolope`s non-English speaking family starts flipping out. Apparently they didnt want to go again. So they stand up. This causes us to press the button to stop the cars (in the station only). Alarms start going off (as the ride is about to break down if we dont start moving them). The alarms start flipping out the escorts. Everyone but the people who work the ride are flipping out. Beeping, yelling, good times. Anyway, we release the "station stop". I have to manually tug the car to the next spot in the station, via the passanger handle bar in the front. This is when my hand came in contact with Tom Cruise`s. I never washed it again.
Why do stars get privileges? They're millionaires. Most people work their asses off for a barely liveable wage, even people in the professional workforce.
After everything I've heard about him I'm amazed he was tall enough to go on a rollercoaster!
This comes in handy once Tom Cruise will be the Operating Thetan LVL VII: Truth Revealed...
Not watching your kids or keeping them calm. Too many times have I watched parents turn the other cheek while their children climb and hang from line separators. This was at Disneyland, but when I was on Soarin' a few months ago some kid was screaming, climbing on things, you name it. I get being excited to be at Disney, but it was a bit much.
If the line is 2-3hrs long, I'd expect kids to get antsy and parents to get tired.
Agreed, however, shame on the parents for bringing a child and subjecting them to lines that are 2-3 hours long. Nothing is worth that.
Load More Replies...While, I probably wouldn’t let my kids do it if it meant they were going to intrude on other people’s space, can you really blame young kids, waiting in line for what seems like and eternity, for doing something as harmless as climbing and swinging a on the very readily available and accessible line separators? Yeah, yeah, I know _some_ kids fall and hurt themselves and try to sue everyone, but surely they are in the vast, vast, VAST minority?
Sadly, no. Worked with public. The vast, vast, VAST majority snarled and disregarded any warning related to their precious snowflakes. But if said snowflakes got hurt by chance, then it would be the staff's fault for not warning them of the danger. Even if the staff DID warn them. They should have insisted or smth. (Because then they would have surely been listened to, isn't it?...🙄)

But trams come every five minutes so no biggie. But the man who was alone was not going to wait five minutes and ripped the father out of his seat so he can get go. Cue what my dear and I called the Tram Fight. The father tried to fight the man to get back with his family. But the other guy was not having it. A cast member and security guard had to push the man off the father. They helped the father back on with his family and told the man to walk back to the parking lot.

Waiting 2 hours for a ride after paying big time to be allowed into the park ... Ridiculous.
I wonder if the child’s ethnicity, or, indeed, weight is actually necessary to the story?
I think OP assumed the kid needed a scooter solely due to obesity instead of considering he might have been overweight due to mobility limitations, medications or medical issues. No need to bring up race whatsoever.

I was on my rare parade duty, which is quite stressful. The logistics of Animal Kingdom's parade are pretty s**tty, once the parade gets going, you're pretty much stuck where you are. One guy decides he really needs to get to the other side of the street and is about to run out in front of a VERY heavy float that wouldn't be able to stop, got to him just in time, kinda half/tackled him until I could explain how he almost died.
I used to work at Electric Umbrella at Epcot during my Disney College Program. If you don’t care what country they’re from, then you don’t need to point it out.
They might have meant that if that’s ok where they are from, then they can do THAT there, but it’s not ok here. Makes sense?
Load More Replies...never talk about the ethnicity they talk about their birth place.
Load More Replies...On Christmas Day last year during the fireworks a woman was repeatedly ramming her stroller in a cast members legs because she couldn't get though the crowd.
Not everyone is Christian. Or celebrates Christmas.

Last night at the Halloween party I saw a parent next to us argue with a different parent about how much space their kid was taking in their stroller. After his mouthing got him nowhere the upset parent started viciously shaking his own stroller on the cobblestones back and forth... With his small child (4 or 5) in it still.
Argue about how much space there is in a stroller? People argue about everything these days
People would try Beverley (Italys "Soda") and instead of puking in the trash, they would puke on the soda machine and we would have to shut it down and clean it
I don't understand this one. Does the soda make them puke? Is that the point of it? It seems like this is phrased like it happened more than once?
It's an aperitif made of grapefruit rind. Very bitter.

I asked him if he was SURE he wanted to ride, as his legs were smashed against the seat in front of him, and he assured me that he did. Next thing I know, I turn around as see him climbing down one of the flights of stairs leading up into the attraction. This a**hole decided he wanted to get out, and because he was so tall, the lapbar didn't go down so far as to lock him in the ride. It just boggles my mind that he decided to climb out in a pitch black area, where he has no idea where any stairways/walkways are, and just take his chances that he wont fall into a track and be crushed by a ride vehicle.
(not a cast member)When I was there, there was this family of 4. Mum, dad, brother, sister. We were in the queue for Rise of the resistance, and this mum was yelling at her kids for sitting on the floor and talking to each other about the rides they had been on that day, listing like ten rides, and it''s 12:00. Honestly, I just felt bad for the kids, because it sounded like they had been there since rope drop, and it's Florida, so it's really hot. We saw them in a restaurant later on at like 4:00, and both kids looked passed out on the table. She didn't take notice, she just kept doing stuff on her phone. I just wanted to share this story, because I found this woman ridiculous.
The poor kids! I 100% think that people should not be allowed to have kids unless they have passed some kind of test to see if they're going to even keep the kids alive.
Load More Replies...I just find it sad the amount of stories about adults ruining the magic for the kids, and the amount of stories about CM's getting sexually harassed :/
Not nearly as bad as I expected. The cast members put up with so much. I didn't expect customer comments, though. I'd love to read more.
I never actually went to Disneyland but I remember writing a letter to Mickey and getting a signed picture back. That was a really great day :)
I haven't been in 34ish years and I was sort of hoping to go sometime soon but... I'm thinking my fellow patrons would make it not quite worth it.
