Tumblr is like a modern day marriage between social networking and blogging. A "microblog" if you will. And the thing about blogging is that you can say pretty much whatever's on your mind.
Unlike many other platforms where posts are short, polished, and carefully curated, Tumblr often veers off the beaten path. Here, rabbit holes reign supreme and strange tangents take unexpected twists and turns of their own. One minute, you're minding your own business and posting about yet another random, adulting problem you encountered last Tuesday. The next, it's become a deep discussion about the rising cost of living and how Kylie Jenner's private jet is contributing to climate change.
Tumblr has more than 130 million active users a month and it's easy to get lost in the collective chaos. Enter Curated Tumblr: a micro-version of the microblog, where people share the best posts they've spotted on the platform. Bored Panda has put together a list of our personal favorites. They have nothing in common, except that they're all a bunch of clumsy, clever and wild thoughts that at some point popped into someone's head, and ended up online.

Yup, on to the next level. In all seriousness, though, in my world, if someone gives me something that bears a positive significance to them, regardless of whether it aligns with my persuasions or not, I feel grateful and thank them. It's their way of showing kindness, gratitude and care. That's what counts, not the item itself. It's of significance to them, as should their act be to you.

Too Far
I live on the Isle of Wight (a little island off the south coast of England) and people over here have a ridiculously distorted sense of distance. A couple of weeks ago, I travelled to a place about 40 minutes' drive away, and the people I was visiting were amazed and impressed by my strength and determination in making such an epic journey. Jokes were made about needing my passport. I was, and remain, bewildered.
I lived on IOW when I first moved to the UK! I still remember talking to a couple on West Wight, I want to say near Freshwater maybe, who were explaining how they only go "to town" once a year for Christmas shopping because it's too far. My British friend thought they meant London, but no...they meant the 10 miles or so to Newport. 🤣

We live in Oregon so we'd have to leave before 7am to get there in time for early dinner and still ride home in the light. It was just over 1100 miles round trip. And yes, the steak has always been totally worth it.
Canadian, have been dragged gone from Ottawa to Montreal because my fashionable friend insisted that there was nowhere "good" to buy black pants in Ottawa. Over 4 hours driving for black pants
I could probably live with black pants that were closer than that.
Load More Replies...I live in Southern California. Driving 45 minutes doesn't even get you all the way to Los Angeles from here XD Southern Californians are very willing to drive. If we drive two hours in any direction, we end up in an entirely different biome. Or country. It's awesome XD I drove two hours one way just to pick up Fenring!
OK - so I'm not suggesting there isn't a bit of distortion in the UK mindset, but, the driving here is mentally more draining. A 7 hour drive in the US or Australia (I've lived in both) is generally quite relaxed. A 7 hour dive in the UK is constant traffic negotiation. Driving in the UK feels harder than in USA (generally).
This is EXTREMELY generalized. I live in Chicago and I guarantee you that driving here isn't in any way relaxed.
Load More Replies...I used to drive an hour and a half to work, distance was 11 miles. That's London for you.
My sister lives in Lancashire, just adjacent to Greater Manchester. When she told her new neighbours she was going to town on Saturday, they couldn't believe she wasn't staying the night in a hotel. It's 40 minutes away
My commute is an hour too... I generally am so drained when I come home I just do not have the energy to travel another hour just to meet up with people. Weekends are spent recovering.
When I live in Maryland and worked in D.C., I'd drive to the metro station, take the metro downtown, and walk half a mile to my job. About an hour each way.
In the UK you'd pay at leat £10 to park at the metro station, and another £50 return for the train....
Load More Replies...I attended a lecture San Angelo, Texas where the speaker recounted the first time she attended the event. She was from the British Virgin Islands and she flew into Dallas and was picked up by someone from the event. Then they drove and drove and drove. Then they drove some more. She began to think she had been kidnapped because where she lived, if anyone drove for that long in the same direction they would be in the middle of the ocean.
Americans can drive for 7 hours and still be in the same state, us poor peasants in Europe can drive for 7 hours and be 3 countries away!!
Uh, I think your UK friend's father has a second family bc 45min isn't far at all.
That's because cars are a lot more common in the US than in the UK (or other Europeans countries) A 45 minutes drive for someone who doesn't own a car often means a few hours in a train/bus and even a taxi if the person they're visiting doesn't live in the city center. It costs too much time and money to make the trip every other day.
Who told you that? We have had the magic horseless wagons for years now.

How I wish the US had a public transit system. Sure, some of the bigger cities have respectable mass transit, but it pales in comparison to Europe and other countries.
