My name is Kate Weiland. I’m a happy mother of three kids and the creator behind the delicious (and totally ridiculous) photography food series Our Family Bites (#ourfamilybites).
I’ve always been a massive supporter of the fine arts and having taught Drama and Dance for many years, I was eager to get into the photography side of things. The forced perspective photography technique has been especially interesting to me – I knew it would be fun to start a family portrait series where we could look back and just have a good laugh. The outfit ideas are endless and I’m eager to create and present new cool photos.
My latest project involves food and my family, so you can often find me holding up various pieces of grub in front of my camera lens in an attempt to dress my family in unique food outfits. After our sushi picture went viral, I thought ‘well, people don’t totally hate it is – so I’ll raise the steaks (HA!) and continue this family photos project with some other cuisine’. I fully understand that there are some who find the series ‘distasteful’, but I get a surge of energy whenever people talk about my creative photography. As the saying goes; ‘Never let the opinion of others affect your execution’.
In truth, the hardest part of the process is stopping myself from eating the props before finishing with the photo ideas. I’ve gained a few pounds after these family photoshoots but it’s all worth it because #ourfamilybites has been the best boredom killer.

Look at this pic when she's having a teenage hissy fit and remember why you keep her
What! You mean to tell me you couldn't get the baby to hold a cup? I'm so disappointed.
I can't stop staring at this lovely photo...you can almost feel the love and the bond come through the monitor...wow.
You're my best bud, Daddy! I love you! I'll always be stuck on you!
OOH it looks like they were a Victorian family tragically murdered by a jealous conspirator in a planned train car accident
i like this photo so much more after reading your backstory
Load More Replies...Yes indeed, also a family that play together, stay together !!!
Mabye the baby is the Cheshire Cat and he's just invisible!
Load More Replies...When you're a kid, naps are sort of like punishment (if you're busy playing and the nap time interrupts that). But after you're 40, they're mandatory. LOL :D
all I want to know is where is she getting all the matching outfits for her, her daughter and the doll????
Mom's pretty hot. I hope she has included some naked photos of herself...
The wardrobe is incredible, I wonder if there could be a wonderful grandma sewing !!!
I want to see their hair after they take the curlers out. I'll bet it would be really cute!
That girl is going to look just like her mother when she's an adult. They even have the exact same shade of hair.
It's the dolls foot. The angle combined with highlight on the toes from the lighting can confuse the shapes
Load More Replies...Am I the only one who sees “something “ in the light part of his stomach
You should have been more specific, I don't know what you see !!!
Well Kate, you did a terrific job, you have an awesome creative series, I think we will see you again, or are you already working on your next project ?
What do you mean my "saccharine narcissism", please? A genuine question, I understand the words but am not sure what exactly it means. :) Thanks.
Load More Replies...Take your family outside. Abort from social media and see that true happiness is out there
How do you know they don't? Your old geezer is showing, better cover it up.
Load More Replies...I don't know what to think. From a side, I have to say of course that these pictures are really nice, creative and well made. On the other side, I feel something that I'm not comfortable with. Maybe it's just social media, but it's all too perfect, and it seems to express they have a very nice life as a family. Part of me is envying because I have a life that is not even close to the level of these pictures, I'm honest. I hope you will not think I'm too much cynical (even though I'm also this), but I think that this is also a self promoting action. But maybe I should just be happy for them, and stop complaining around...what do u think?
Hi! We’re having fun and I was asked by Bored Panda to submit our pics from Instagram - which I obviously did but had no idea about the site prior to the submission. When IG started for us, I really wanted some good shots of my family to laugh at (in a good way) when the kids get older - I’m also an art/drama/dance teacher so regular ‘stand and smile’ at the camera pics are very neutral to me - I wanted to get creative. Our messy house and crazy life is rarely documented but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist ;) We’re just having fun and hopefully people can appreciate the thought and creativity going into some of the pics.
