please pass on my *absolute* respect to her. She did all of that in an era where there were no shelters for those leaving domestic abuse, there was no daycare, and divorced women were not looked on postively. She was, and IS, a truly courageous woman. I hope she has managed to create a really positive, peaceful, happy life for herself. :) <3 <3 <3

    My Crazy Grandfather

    My Crazy Grandfather

This is my crazy grandfather. Hands down, the funniest old coot that's ever existed. On his deathbed, he told us (his grandkids) "Don't be cheap. Spend 25 cents and buy the paper. The Times promised me a big spread." He worked as a photographer for the LA Times for 50+ years and had many famous photos, including the first published photo of an atomic bomb explosion.

He was a man of many stories and an unforgettable sense of humor. After laying his wife and two sons to rest, he stayed strong and kept his spirit high. He battled prostate cancer for 20+ years and lived to see his 92nd birthday and his great grandchildren. RIP Grandpa

This really was innovation. Early cars had no safety belts at all. People getting in accidents would be thrown through the windscreen, get tossed all over the cabin or worse before the tri-point. This seatbelt is so important that it is standard in every automobile today.

I can say with 100% certainty that this photo was taken in 1951. Prior to 1950 California license plates were black characters on a yellow background, and and in 1952-1955 there was a colored tab in the lower-right corner indicating registration year, in 1956 they went back to black-on-yellow.

Wow!! Gorgeous for sure!! But, Now I'm even MORE intrigued to know... Just HOW in the World did NO ONE EVER know this about her!!?? And, if she never let anyone know this part of her life, (which Definitely doesn't seem to be Anything to hide or be ashamed of!!) ...then WHY didn't she ever share this with her Family & Loved ones? And furthermore, What OTHER sorts of COOL, EXCITING, NEAT, ADVENTUROUS things did she have "Hidden in her Closet of Secrets"!!?? Bet whatever there is, It WILL BE FASCINATING for you & all your Family if u do dig and find anymore!!

It's a good old British right hand drive Beetle. This journey certainly required bravado, determination of youth and a vacuum flask full of tea. I used to drive from London to Greece way back when the regions ofYugoslavia were just arguing amongst themselves, but I never had the luxury of just relaxing en route. I must get hold of their book, must be on an antiquarian booksite website somewhere.

That's an A-6 Texan flight trainer and she was most likely a WASP pilot. Women pilots who ferried aircraft from the factory to where they were needed, including overseas. They flew a much wider variety of planes than any male pilots, from single engined fighters to 4 engined B-17s and 38 died doing jobs that freed up men for combat. At the end of the war they were given no veterans benefits and had to pay their own way home. https://www.wwii-women-pilots.org

So the fact that it's on the interwebs negates the fact that it can be someone's grandpa? My grandpa was in a movie about a bank heist that is up on the internet. Does that negate the fact that he was my gradfather? Sheesh, what an a*****e.
