Welcome to the internet, a place to find like-minded people no matter what your background is. Sounds fun, right? Sadly, it can become quite toxic. And we're the ones to blame for it. Racism, misogyny, classism; all of society's wounds fester online just as much as they do in real life.

However, being insulting and mean often comes right back to bite you. Amongst the most impressive ways to fight internet trolls is by using the epic art of the comeback. Fierce, well-constructed, and piercingly accurate arguments end up in the subreddit called Murdered By Words. This community with over 2.6M members is the place where verbal assassins cut right through the BS and share some of the best burns.

When you’re done scrolling through this list, you’ll find some more inspiration for savage comebacks by checking out Bored Panda’s previous posts on the subreddit here, here, and here.

Little tip: if you're unsure which side of an argument you're on, pay attention to which side is making broad, combative statements (usually including calling their opponents 'stupid' or 'retard') and which is calmly stating facts backed up by reliable sources.

Confession: after a certain number of passes where I calmly state facts and offer reliable sources, and get called stupid or gullible in return, I've been known to make combative statements.

Same amount of people who die from the flu every year about died from covid... of course a few more than normally but about the same. This is nothing but a stronger strain of the flu. Because they actually gave it a name it's supposed to be more scary than the "flu". A lot more people died from the norm of cancer, heart attacks and lately shootings but no word from the media on that of course.

A while back, Bored Panda talked to the mods of r/MurderedByWords who said that "a murder should (but doesn't always have to) be more than a quick response or retort. The best murders are well-constructed, thought-out responses that leave the opening argument completely without any ability to reply.“

And there's more than one way to crush your opponent verbally. A burn or “a quick rapier thrust or stab to the heart (a short, swift reply) can be just as deadly as a drawn-out murder, and you'll frequently see both types in this sub," the moderator explained. And as you can guess, put-downs shared in this group might be some of the most enjoyable one-liners in human history.

But when you end up in the middle of a heated argument, emotions can take over. Especially if the person you're disagreeing with is sticking to an opinion that's just nonsense. So having in mind the rise in the number of flat earthers and anti-vaxxers, staying civil on the internet these past years can seem like an impossible task.

And while ruthless put-downs seem entertaining in the online world, other principles apply when you're arguing with someone in real life. To find out more about how to deal with those who mock you, Bored Panda reached out to Neel Burton, M.D., a psychiatrist, philosopher and author of Heaven and Hell: The Psychology of the Emotions.

Burton is doubtful that throwing put-downs to the mockers actually make us feel better. "Someone who's insulting you is already in a weak position—or why would they be insulting you—so it would be unkind to shatter them completely. If you respond with compassionate silence, the message will be both stronger and kinder,“ he advised.

He's not wrong. America wouldn't be what it is today if those things hadn't happened. But I think America would be so much better if those things hadn't happened. Those atrocities, aside from just being horribly evil, created negative mentalities, misguided values, discrimination and racism that America is still dealing with today. So hurray, thanks for all the baggage, people of the past! You screwed everyone over because of your greed.

Now, wait a minute. I'm an American and I'm ashamed of some of our past. Where are you from? Australia, which did the exact same thing to its Aboriginal peoples? Russia, which has one of the bloodiest genocide rates on the planet? Along with China? Rwanda? Not to mention the Spanish Inquisition, wherein millions were murdered in the name of the Catholic church? Or England's bloody colonizations? Or those of France? Wanna bring Hitler and the "non-Nazi" Germans who looked the other way while he conducted his atrocities? Vikings? Pirates? Almost every country on the planet has a history of atrocities. Don't you dare single out the USA for its actions.

Or not decided to take everything that was not ours in the first place. Wow!! Look at all this land. We sure could use this. So, we'll just start moving in and taking all of it. No ask, just taking. All of it. Shove everyone into places with no resources and no ability to live in the same way as ancestors. Break treaties when it's convenient for the settlers. And even more shame (🇨🇦) let's just take them from their families and destroy the language and culture and abuse them while we're at it. All in the name of God. Nope these nations (🇨🇦& 🇺🇸) wouldn't be what they are today. And the First Nations wouldn't be who they are today. Proud Nations still having to demand to be able to, rather than be free and respected enough to live as proud Nations with all the rights and opportunities as everyone else.

My ancestors, the Potawatomi, were forcefully displaced by what is known as the "Potawatomi Trail of Death" and some fled to Canada, which is where my family is from. I'm not only descended from Native Americans, but refugee Native Americans. Sure things are ok, but I'd probably be a lot better with all this generational trauma.

To be fair a lot of places (at least where I live) no longer have women's bathrooms at all, it's either just Gender Neutral, or Men plus Gender Neutral. I'm completely in favour of gender neutral loos to accommodate trans and non-binary people but it is crap that so often companies will just decide to turn the women's bathroom gender neutral. (Or worse, the disabled accessible toilet is turned into the gender neutral one.) I've never seen a situation where the men's bathroom is the one being sacrificed.

Clinical psychotherapist Eva Jajonie agrees with this line of thinking, and offers this explanation as to why the desire to offend someone is a sign of vulnerability: "When suppressed concerns and feelings, such as lack of self-esteem; self-defeating thoughts and behaviors; guilt; and anger, for example, are not treated or dealt with, the person uses insults to unleash anger, to escape dealing with the pain or trauma experienced.”

The amount of people that died by firearms in the USA throughout the last 20 years is higher than the number of fallen soldiers in every war the country had since 1776. So statistically it's safer in a warzone than being home for US citiziens

I agree with the point you are trying to make but that is not how statistics work. It is statistically safer at home in the US when you account for time (years of war vs years of US) and population (the amount of people who participated in a warzone vs the total amount of people in the US over that time).

Now that we know someone who is taking a cheap shot at you isn't that much of a threat, another thing to consider is status. According to Burton, we should try to keep our integrity: "If you engage the insulter on their own level, you are bringing yourself down and giving their insult far too much legitimacy.“ Staying levelheaded during an argument is not easy, but can be learned with practice. Like, try to notice when the adrenaline starts kicking in stopping it. Or take some deep breaths to remain calm, whatever method works for you.

Do you know that IV is roman numerals for 4? Well! If you add two to four, you get six. And what is 6 x 111? That's right! 666.

We're living in a culture where a 16 year old boy who stole a car, got high on laughing gas and drove head on into an ambulance seriously wounding the medics, in the process killing himself and 2 of his friends (14 &15 years) in the car, is "A really good kid who made a silly mistake."

But when you hear ignorant slurs, it's often difficult to just stand by. Here's where using humor can be extremely effective. "A good comeback is one that the insulter can also laugh at. It should not be too devastating. Ideally, it should be tangential, maybe even absurd,“ Burton explained. If your reply is funny, well-timed and well delivered, it can diffuse the tension of the situation and undercut the mockery.

Sure seems to be a lot of anti-American hate speech on this website lately. Lots of people wanting to tare down america for things that the average citizen can do nothing about. The trouble is the vocal minority are very, very vocal - but that goes for most countries. We all have our loons unfortunately. I'm in the UK. We also get bashed. Not as often I know but a lot of it is true and fair enough 🤷. It saddens me that we have a total tw@t like Boris at the helm - I mean he's hardly a prime example of decency and honesty is he? The opposition is lead by a worthy type but he has the charisma of a puddle. Though both make great material for comedians! We have to look on the bright side where possible. Don't take it personally - we DO know that most US citizens are perfectly normal and reasonable people.

That makes no sense. Humans are meant to have an immune system. Your not special coz you have one, also doesn't mean that it wont have times when it glitches or not work at all. Hence the NEED for vaccines, medications and other treatments etc.

Working in a hospital, and fully vaccinated… what I don’t understand is the variability of this logic. Don’t trust a vaccine made by a man but will still take a medicine to save your life, administered by a human. Surgery performed by a human. If you’re so religious, stop getting human-made treatments. When god tries to call you home, stop letting human-made medicine prevent the meeting. Don’t pick and choose which human-made treatments to take.

Army doctrine was to shoot one handed until very recently. It's still a good idea to learn to shoot one handed in case the Gumbas are putting your other hand through a meat grinder. Plus, in Olympic shooting these are the rules, they cannot shoot two handed, and their caliber is puny, some are air guns. Also, I shot Desert Eagles one-handed. Not an experience I'd like to repeat, but also my bones were just fine. They are called "handguns" for a reason.

I feel that at least half of the gender-related negativity is being kept alive by the gender it affects (e.g. women berating women for choosing to be a stay at home mom, or men berating other men for expressing emotion).

Well, it's still stupid that it's a rule for celebrities. The media will definitely comment on it if an actress wears the same outfit for a red carpet twice. Having said that, the guy commenting on OP's post is probably right.

Reminder: Undocumented immigrants in the U.S. pay billions of dollars into social security each year and can't withdraw from it. They're one of the only reasons social security is still afloat. Studies also show that undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit violent, drug, or property crimes than documented immigrants, and both documented and undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit those crimes than American citizens. The nonsense you hear about immigrants "ruining" the country is just xenophobic fear-mongering.

I have the tiniest ring, but it belonged to my husband's grandmother who raised him. His grandfather and her lived in poverty and he went through great lengths just to be able to buy this tiny rings with a tiny diamond that has granny's pride and joy. I feel absolutely honored to wear her ring and would not exchange it for any larger shinier ring ever. Besides that - we saved enough to have a Honeymoon that we will remember for every.

It was the same when I went to school in Russia - you keep the same cohort of students through your entire school experience, only switching schools from primary to high school. You also have one classroom and the teachers come to you. Oh, and in primary school you get a nap room and enforced nap time - our room even had beds assigned to each child. I really didn't appreciate this enough back then; I wish someone enforced nap time for me now... Plus you get breakfast, lunch, and if you choose to stay at the free afterschool program, dinner. I remember being so confused when I moved to the U.S.

To be clear, you only get the nap room in primary school. And I don't know if this is typical of other schools - I lived in a small town just outside of Moscow and all of the schools in my town had the nap room.

The primary reason Americans do it this way is that the students all have different classes and are mixed as needed. This enables the school to have larger classes and pay fewer teachers.

When I was homeless, I had a cell phone. It was the only way to get housing, medical care etc

I think this comes from the misconception that homeless people don't work and are just sitting on their asses all day asking for money and hardly get any. If you're making five dollars a day just to eat you can't afford a phone. But all of it's a misconception and inaccurate.

When I was homeless people told me to sell my laptop. How am I gonna apply for jobs and search for apartments without my laptop???? Plus, I was working full time as a teenager to buy my laptop, I'm not about to let go of it so easily. Luckily, I still have it, and I also have a full time job and an apartment

I bought my smartphone for like $150 which included a year of service days, texts, minutes, and data, and have to spend about $20 a month to continue to get service days. Much cheaper than a house.

Wtf. Getting yourself a cell phone is a GREAT first step out of homelessness. How are you supposed to find support, work, housing, when you don’t have a phone? If people literally thought for more than 2 seconds about it 🙄

I have a home, a job, I can afford to travel. When I'm travelling, I'm extra careful to keep my cellphone charged at all times. Wouldn't you, Red Person? This is your connection to the world, nowadays; you'd clutch onto that as long as you can, wouldn't you?

The only way this comment ever makes sense is that for mobile phone contracts (at least where I live) you need to provide a home address for the contract to start. I've wracked my brain and this is the only option I can think of where you would struggle to be homeless with a phone. Of course, given that there are PAYG options, and becoming homeless after the contract has been running for a while, this argument falls apart as soon as you give it more than two seconds unwracked thought. I have a headache.

There are organizations that give basic cell phones out to the homeless to help make it easier to get a job, so they have a phone number for an employer to get a hold of them.

I rarely go to Walmart, but one of the last times I was in one, I saw a man with pistols in holsters on EACH hip, and a third pistol in a holster in the small of his back. This wasn't a small man, either. He was easily 6ft 5in, probably 225-250lbs. Imagine being so afraid, angry, and insecure, that you feel the need to have three handguns (and probably more) to go f***Ing shopping in a low crime small town in New England. For those of you wondering.. yes, he was wearing a Red MAGA hat.

Ja, deadbeat hey? I was very, very close to living in my car which was eventually taken so would've been on the streets, but luckily I didn't let that happen and I survived. Not all the homeless are a strain on society, some are there due to circumstances like what happened to me. And millions have ended up living in tents next to a tennis court or under a bridge because of COVID and some weren't lucky enough to even get a tent.

It actually does benefit everyone to provide the homeless with homes, healthcare, and food. It cost a lot less in tax payer money to provide housing, it helps businesses which often end up in hostile relationships with local homeless people who scare off customers or try to use the restroom as a shower, it is the humane thing to do, cuts down on jails and court expenses, and increases local property values as there are not homeless people living in the local parks. It cost drastically less in taxes to pay for someone to live with dignity than to actively argue to keep them in the street like a stray animal. The goal should be to house the homeless instead of building shelters they don't feel safe in.

It's been shown over and over that the cost of providing universal health care would cost us less than we currently collectively spend on hospital emergency rooms being so many people's primary medical care provider - for which they are often unable to pay for at all. It is far cheaper to provide preventative care and earlier medical interventions than it is for a hospital be presented with extreme illnesses, etc. because the patient only comes in when it's so bad that they have no other reasonable choice if they wish to have a chance to continue to live.

I'm going to get downvoted to oblivion, but the worst thing getting vaccinated isn't a small ouchie, it's some yukky side effects that wipe you out for up to 48 hours. I'm double vaccinated - I also lost two Sundays due to the side effects after each jab. Still a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

People think that everything is racist now days. I mean if it’s directly racist like someone calling you a “stupid white boy” or the n word then of course it is but I’ve heard people gasp because i said the word “black”

I was told it was racist to mention to a black person that you sunburn easily. Makes zero sense. If I would mention it to a white person (which of course I've done many times), making sure to not say it to a black person means I'm treating the black person differently. How is it not racist or at least biased to treat black people differently purely because they are black?

I worked in a food pantry in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Chicago. Many of our clients weren't very educated. We would get cans of black beans in from the federal government that were labeled "frijoles negros." Few families would take them because they were unaware of the language differences and thought they were some divisive government product aimed at Black folks. It took a lot of education on our part to teach families what black beans were and how to use them.

CBS censored a UK headline which used the word 'niggling'. Which doesn't even have anything to do with colours or black but I guess they have an automatic censor response to anything starting with those four letters.

In Hungary we have a black hard candy called the chimney sweeper for your throat, meaning it helps if your throat hurts and the name of the candy is Negro, which means black. Totally normal, also slavery always existed in Hungary ( meaning freee work) as a punishment. And the slaves were white, if colour matters. In last century for political reason, as men were taken to the gulag, 400.000 never came back. The US thinks the only history is theirs, but other cultures have their own history too.

Accurate. In the U.S., studies show that Black and white people use drugs at roughly the same rates, but Black people are 2-11 times more likely to be arrested for it, depending on the state. If you live in a state that has legalized marijuana but hasn't committed to reevaluating the sentences for people in prison for marijuana-related convictions, I hope you call your politicians and speak out.

I read an article about a young black man getting 20 years for the same amount of pot in Louisiana that a Seattle police officer would help same said person pick up and put back in their baggy. I'm not advocating pot, it's not great for motivation and such, and can make you act stupid, but it's not worth 20 years of a person's life while your trying to figure said life out.

It's so really sad that behind the laughter that this scene evokes is the horrible reality that there is an awful truth behind his lines. It's so sad that people have to live with this kind of thing just because of the colour of their skin. It's just so unfair. And yes I'm white. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTbxVFTDdo0

Also: "Pedophilia" is in fact a mental affliction. (it falls under the category of "paraphilia" as described in the DSM-V) "Pedophilia" is not a legal term, and having a sexual attraction to children is not illegal. "Child sexual abuse" or "Child Molestation" is illegal (as it should be). The fact that most people mix up these two terms makes treatment/diagnosis of the disease more difficult then it should be. note: this is based on the situation in my, and several other European countries. Rules and language use may vary based on your location.

I'm sorry what did I just read? People think pedophilia (more accurately child molesting) is not a crime in Greece?? For real?? And that this is the reason hanks got the citizenship? That's ridiculous and of course it's a crime in Greece! In fact there is a Greek actor and director that faces such accusations in Greece right now and is facing many years in prison.

While child marriage is not legal in Israel (nor Palestine, but no need to go into that particular argument at the moment), it IS in a lot of U.S. states. And proudly supported mostly by evangelicals and republicans, as long as no muslims are involved (see https://www.unchainedatlast.org/ for more).

"More than 200,000 child marriages took place in the U.S. between 2000 and 2015, according to Frontline data. Of those child marriages, most minors involved were girls, and more than 80% of the marriages were between an adult and a minor." I have never heard a Democrat say they are okay with child marriage. You can support a culture and others without supporting everything they do. N***r has the highest rate of child marriages in the world but instead of vilifying them, you work with them to curb inhumane practices. Also, child marriage is an issue we have in America too, specifically in West Virginia and Texas which are known to be conservative states.

If men got pregnant, Birth Control would be free without a prescription! My menopause hormones aren't covered by my insurance. I guess hot flashes, migraines and anxiety aren't as important as men getting stiffies.

I have an IUD not for birth control but to stop my extremely heavy, painful periods that saw me hospitalized many times for severe anemia. Birth control is not always used for actual birth control. I'm just lucky I live in a place that the government isn't trying to control MY body.

I take birth control to keep both my ovarian cysts and my tendency for anemia in check, the birth control part is more of a bonus. What the idiotist actually meant is: men like me don't need birth control to be healthy, so clearly neither can anyone else.

In any civilized country the conversation would have gone more like this: WORKER "I cleared it with lead, I have 2 broken bones in my left foot" BOSS "Holy sh*t, sorry , didn't know. Why the hell were you at work with 2 broken bones in your foot? Stay home and get healed up. And the fact that you achieved 240+ packing rate will be reflected on your quarterly performance eval. "

How much money are they putting into protecting their citizens with technology while still ignoring the actual reason for their problems. Like putting a bunch of bandaids on someone with cancer. As someone childless: bonding with a newborn is seriously important. There's also the fact that you'll probably have disrupted sleep patterns, need to learn how to be a parent (change the baby, wash the baby, feed the baby). I feel seriously sorry for Matt Walsh's wife and four children.

That's why in the Netherlands parents with a newborn have a qualified maternity nurse for one week, to teach both parents the ins and outs of taking care for a baby. They also do the cooking and cleaning so the parents can focus on being parents.

I had twins. My husband changed more diapers his first week of paternity leave then he had ever before (we have an older child). We rotated 4 hour shifts the week he had off, and when he went back to work he got a 8pm-midnight baby shift so I could get some uninterrupted sleep. He ended up having a mental breakdown from the strain at 3 months. Babies are no joke.

    Kitty Jordan

Because... men can't change diapers, apparently? Also, if there isn't anyone breastfeeding, then both partners can feed the baby a bottle!

My brother was the one to do most with his son, for one because his partner had a c-section and couldn't really lift the kid and certainly not carry him but also because he likes it. He changed most of the diapers (Still does, I think? - kiddo is only 10 mth) and walked him around when he cried and went to the physical therapy with him (ostheopathy because kiddo was a bit crooked) and did all kinds of stuff with kiddo. He's a great dad so far, and he definitely needs the paternity-leave

    Miss Frankfurter

Not much to do. How about everything. Mom is exhausted from sleep deprivation, especially if baby wants to feed every 2 hours. Some do. Even if it's every 3.5 to 4 hours, breastfeeding takes a long time especially at the beginning. Trouble latching on, keeps falling asleep so you have to keep waking the baby up. And so on. Just regular breastfeeding with no issues takes time. And in between that and changing diapers the question is "Where's the sleep?!" And maybe have a nice shower to feel clean. Yes dad. Everything else. The Buttigiegs had twins. Obviously no breastfeeding involved, but hey, bottle feeding is no fun either when they're both hungry at the same time. Also, the need for dad to bond with the newborn is not appreciated enough. It shouldn't be maternity leave/paternity leave. It should be parental leave. They are the twins PARENTS. Regardless of being two dads.

Each to their own, but surely identifying as an animal is different to gender self-identification? You can identify as a female (or male) dolphin, yes. But animal is not classed as a gender. Self-identified gender and otherkin as separate from each other.

I can understand both sides of that argument. It's the same in UK now. People voted for Brexit. Because of that (and Corona), there's a shortage of workers, as a lot of migrants returned to their countries. Yet, Brits prefer to stay on benefits, just getting by, instead of trying to fill those positions (that they asked for). I think maybe they were expecting to be offered management positions, or something?

If I had to see anti vaxxers in the US hiding behind the term “unvaccinated” while I had no choice but to wait for my vaccine, they can deal with people using a term that expresses the fact that they got access to vaccines ahead of other people but refused them.

You get vaccinated to protect yourself and other breathing, feeling human beings from potentially deadly diseases. A woman dies every other minute from complications due to pregnancy and childbirth. Access to safe and affordable abortions can save many women's lives. No irony here, just logic and common sense.

"They want the option to choose what they do with their body". Okay, well, I can't speak about other countries, but in the US (where this probably was from), not one single person has been forced to get a vaccine. Not one. There are no rules, no laws, that allow for forcing someone to get a vaccine. You have a choice, so there is no need to fight for it. You might have suffer the consequences of choosing not to, though. For example, kids are not allowed to attend public school without a certain set of vaccines. But if they don't get the vaccine, nobody comes to the kid's house and forces them to take it. The parents have to react to the consequences and find a school that will take them or home-school them.

Where I live we had a curfew because of covid. Shelters were full which means some homeless people got a ticket for being outside during curfew (stupid... soooo stupid i know....) it took a judge to declare that exact fact... That by definition, a homeless person was without a home, so they were to be exempt from this "law".

I saw some social media post where it was suggested that we shouldn't call people homeless, because that's somehow demeaning. We should call them people without a home instead, or something along those lines. Changing the wording doesn't fix anything ffs. I've been homeless for a short period of time, I'm not gonna start saying that I was a person without a home for a short period of time. That just sounds stupid.

Also, USPS has to do uniquely ridiculous accounting in its budgets. A law passed in 2006 requires USPS to maintain a fund to pay for all of its current and future employees' post-retirement healthcare costs now AND for 75 years into the future. Afaik, literally no other public or private business has to do this. It's $72 billion. Including this info, USPS is more solvent than a lot of other businesses -- even though it's a service and not a business.

This might be a good analogy for mental illness. Frodo carried the thing all the way to Mordor, he had to deal with it every single second. In order to get rid of it, he needed Sam's help, but that doesn't mean he was weak or a loser.

I've always thought that too. Especially when Frodo says, "I can't recall the taste of food, nor the sound of water, nor the touch of grass. Instead I'm... naked in the dark." That sounds like severe depression. Like, "I don't even remember what it's like to want things or feel pleasure..."

For me, it's never been about Frodo being a failure - moral or heroic. Not at all. I just found his plight to be so much more boring than all the other strands of the books, so I just always cross-read the to pick up the gist. My bros are Merry and Pippin, though, who are also true heroes in their own right (anyone knowing the books and not just seeing the movies will understand my defensiveness of Pip!), but I hold a very special place in my heart for Eowyn (once more: read the books!). Those three carried the books for me, but I never once thought Frodo was any kind of failure. Just that Tolkien's writing didn't make me feel as connected to him as to the others.

In some places (and I'm pretty sure Australia has laws on this) you are not allowed to do the killing or butchering yourself. It *must* be done by someone qualified, to ensure that the animal is killed humanely (as an amateur it would be too easy to misjudge and wound rather than kill) and that the butchering is done in line with food safety standards - if you nick a bowel the food would be contaminated and couldn't be eaten.

But the meaning is perfectly clear. Just because it's a different dialect or accent doesn't mean it's better or worse English. Furthermore, many people who speak a variety of English are perfectly able to code switch, as OP demonstrated. If you can't understand them then maybe the message wasn't for you.

Okay I would like to point out a few things 1. This woman is not writing a dissertation or a thesis, she is posting on social media account - she is using language typical of and appropriate to the context in which the post is being made. 2. At no point does she suggest what she wishes discuss is literature, only books. As there are plenty of books that would not be considered literature, I think it is therefor uncalled for to hold her to the high standards of grammatical pedantry that you all seem to feel the discussion of literature requires. 3. She appears to be using African American English NOT standard American English in the first post, I am not an expert in this dialect/language, just as I am not a expert in French, so I will not judge her grammar in a dialect/language I am not familiar with. 4. Some of you must surely see how holding a young black woman to standards set by (mostly) old white colonial men is a problematic. 5. We need to be more accepting of linguistic diversity

Also the hubris of people expecting a post I'm going to go out on a limb and assume was posted within the black twitter silo to be written in standard English is just like, I'm sorry are you expecting all the German people to just start posting in English... No. And yes I tone down my Aussie lingo, a lot, when posting on BP, because I understand that not everyone is Australian, but I'm not going to do it on my socials because for the most part I'm talking to my own social group, who, get this tend, to be Aussie. But if you have absolutely no human interaction, I think I'm okay with you, alone in your cabin, not being vaccinated. You have no chance of catching the virus or passing it on.

The sad fact is I am vaccinated and still being a hermit. I am literally living in a log cabin in rural America. I am immunocompromised. The vaccine may not have been as effective for me, and even though I take every precautionn, I am very worried that I might still catch it. I went out this weekend for food and I only saw one other person with a mask and they had it only on their mouth, not their nose.

Unfortunately this argument is much more complex, as both sides do have a point there. Slavery did exist, but slave trade became a thing in egyptian history mainly because of greco-roman influence. While there are records of enslaved prisoners of war (which partly have made it into biblical records, see e.g. Exodus), this seems not to have been that common before. Especially the rumor of the pyramids being built by slaves proved to be rooted in legend, not fact. The user quotes a "price" from 896, which was far after the "classical" period. For most of the dynastic times (about 2700 to 1070 BC), Egypt did not even have such a thing as a money system - more like a standardised barter economy with partially fixed rates. They adopted the principle of currency from the greeks during ptolemaic times. So most of the detailed information of the answer is correct for the ptolemaic period and after, but does not pertain to the dynastic times of the Old, Middle and New Kingdom.

err generally speaking I don't think the bible is considered a scholarly source at least outside of religious studies. As a historical document recording historical events it certainly has it's place but it's a bit parabolic to be used in making definitive statements, there are also some geopolitical biases as well as issues with translators missing specific context and nuance as each consecutive translation moves further and further from the original text.

I kinda agree with CK. Someone who just wants "a girlfriend" is quite possibly going to end up in an unhealthy relationship just to fulfil this. If he gets on with having a great life, meeting lots of people, and being happy, one day he is very likely to meet someone he thinks is great, and who thinks he is great, and is worth interrupting his great life for.
