50 Times Hotels Surprised Everyone With Their Creativity
Customers should be treated like kings and queens. They should be pampered, treated to large doses of good humor, and given a creative quality of life upgrades that make all the difference. This is the philosophy some of the nicest hotels have. And it's obvious how much they try to have the best customer services.
Some hotels go the extra mile to make their customers' stay that much more pleasant. From bed forts and 'spouse disposal units' to hilarious menus and tiny takeaway bags for tiny soap, these are the creative ideas that make you want to visit again and again. Bored Panda created this awesome list of clever ideas and unique touches that some of the best hotels have introduced. These will bring a smile to your face, give you a hearty chuckle, and make you go 'wow, how didn't I think of that?' Courtesy of Hospitality School, here are several 'Golden Rules' that each and every hotelier worth their salt should follow. That is, if they want to be proud of what they do, want their business to boom, and their guests to grace their doorstep once again.
Looking like a professional goes a long way in the hospitality business. That means dressing nicely, taking care of your hygiene and smiling brightly. It's also vital that the way you talk to your customers be sincere — they can spot it if you're being fake in an instant. What's more, keeping your guests' private life private is of utmost importance, as is helping them with everything and anything they might need. Finally, never, ever ignore complaints. Not even small ones.

However, the rules of hospitality are slowly changing over time, as Marcel Thoma, the General Manager of The Upper House hotel in Hong Kong told Euronews: “Twenty years ago, there were scripts and standards. And it was the same every day. These days, we expect the wait staff to be psychiatrists. Now, some guests want to be left alone; maybe you don’t refill their coffee because they’re in a meeting and concentrating hard. We like to see ourselves as hosts, not service providers. For that, you must give your staff the freedom to be spontaneous.”

More Hotels Should Do This
THIS. The hotel I stayed at last time had check-in at 4.00PM (late!!!) and check-out at 10.00AM (early!!!). It sucked!
Thoma also explained how staff members can help in unexpected ways. “For example, we once had a guest come downstairs and say, I want to go hiking but I’m alone and don’t know how to go hiking in Hong Kong. We had a staff who loves hiking and said, ‘Madame, I know a beautiful trail. Why don’t we go hiking together tomorrow, if you’d like me to come along with you?’ So, they went hiking together. In a traditional hotel, they would say, ‘We’re not paying you to go hiking! You’re paid to check in and check out guests.’”

Instead Of Bibles, My Hotel Has Copies Of 1984
1984 is the most lied about book in history, as in people lie about having actually read it. :D
Surely it's required reading in a lot of schools? It was required for me in a high school English Lit class and a college Poli Sci 100-level class.
Load More Replies...Always did wonder how so many thousands of hotels around the world were persuaded to have the St. James bible in the top drawer of the bedside cabinet. Any body know?
I went and looked it up, and this explains it! http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/07/why-there-are-bibles-in-hotel-rooms/
Load More Replies...Here in Finland one new hotel promised that they will do not have any religious books at the rooms. Most people thought that it was a great idea but then some religious groups wanted to boycott that hotel and other religious groups started donating really many Bibles for that hotel. So they finally chose to be just like all other hotels and have a Bible in every room. :/ Some atheists joked that we should have donated Richard Dawkins book The God Delusion to all the hotel rooms.
So you’re saying good Christians once again bulldozed oven everyone else’s rights? That’s why atheists often like to leave an atheist comment or a joke, we are a humorous people, inside the Gideon’s Bible to set Rocky Raccoon straight. Equal time for all. I’m sure the Satanic Temple would like to put their two cents in also.
Load More Replies...Concept of bible in the hotel room is so weird for me.. Here in Poland it would be weird to force bible onto people in hotel rooms, and poland is said to be most catholic in Europe!
As a hotel, I would definitely install a (faux) surveillance camera opposite the bed, and in the bathroom
Is this a "1984" joke? Cuz I think you're getting down-voted cuz people don't get it:P

Load More Replies...Looks like a lot of Christian conservatives got butthurt and came to downvote people here.
So many atheists shitting on their holy book. Go figure.
Load More Replies...Yew, don't they have rallies called something like "The Two-minute Hate"? It's been a while since I read it.
Load More Replies...I’ve read Animal Farm, and want to read Fahrenheit 450. What’s 1984 about?
I never really liked 1984 as a piece of fiction, its a good dystopia but the characters are all flat and the story is a bit uninspired. I get that it's supposed to be like a critique on Stalin era communism and fascism but it mostly just reads like Orwell bashing these context directly to the reader. I feel animal farm was way more effective than it
That hotel owner must atheist. More people should read the bible and maybe this world would have less violence and more love between each other.
I've read it, twice!! Once in high school, and once many years later before I saw it as a play. More relevant than ever now!! A MUST READ!!! Also read his other novel, Animal Farm!! Both important books for our times!!
i read this. like five times. for fun. this is true. you can ask my mom.
Great book, as are his essays. The Everyman essays edition is a prized possession, but heavy weight at 1400 pages! Eric Arthur Blair (AKA George Orwell) wrote 1984 towards the end of his life on the Isle of Jura, how he imagined it whilst on this remote island is extraordinary. I’m currently reading Coming up for air, which is excellent. I first read 1984 and Animal Farm as a youngster in 1962/63 and still find his books and writing even more interesting at 71. You can get 50 of his essays free on line, try them they’re good.
On line address for 50 essays free of charge is ...Project Gutenberg Australia
Load More Replies...Now, this is something that I would actually read in a hotel room! Never read any of his books, but I would definitely give it a try. I would never even consider reading the bible in a hotel room. I absolutely love this idea!
Bah I just had to read that as a school summer reading book and I literally finished it 2 hours ago
fantastic and prescient book. much better than the bible and more needed right now.
I graduated in 1984 and it was required reading for my senior class and we all enjoyed reading it. It was the one time that everyone in the class was reading ahead of the assignment.
omg, this reminds me of something funny that happened to me. I was cleaning out my bookshelves with my brother and we found 3 or 4 copies of 1984 and 3 copies of the hobbit! we tend to forget we have books and buy them again. :)
Orwells book doesnt promote sleep, it'l make you think carefully about what is real&what is not
I think you should still keep the bible but also have this one so people have a choice. Nice idea.
Yes, once when I was going through a very hard time in life -- I lost my job, my wife had left me, I was sick and broke -- I found great comfort and new purpose by reading 1984. Yes, sarcasm.
This is great as literally anything is better then a bible be it manifestos, illegal drugs, porn, child porn, free pro trump posters or even just mold
The Hotel My Parents Are Staying At In NC To Watch The Eclipse Stocked All Of The Rooms With These
According to Dr. Forgacs, the main reason why a guest would return to a hotel would be if they had good memories of the place.
“Not necessarily a gold plated door knob or the extra skirt hangers in the closet; best memories are created through interaction with people. If service excellence exceeds expectations, guests always remember that.”

What’s more, the professor had some insightful advice for those hoteliers that are having trouble keeping their business afloat.
“Languishing hotels need to take an honest look at themselves to understand the reasons why they can't create special memories,” he explained. “Service culture is not built overnight; the way you hire, you train and conduct yourself is crucial. Mistakes are made all the time; how you recover and show genuine care would make a difference.”

“Following up is a secret weapon. Comping, offering a discount or an upgrade for a mishap is what a typical hotel would do. The better ones will always follow up with the guest and on top of a remedy, tell their plan how the mistake will be prevented from happening again,” Dr. Forgacs revealed the secrets behind getting hotels back on track.
