The task of cleaning can often become daunting and tedious. Yet when it comes to watching other people do it on social media, it somehow magically becomes relaxing and satisfying. Maybe you’ve even fired up some gross yet enjoyable sink-scrubbing TikToks at 1 a.m. while avoiding irrepressible thoughts of human existence. Honestly, these people really deserve more credit for their superior tidying skills.
We can’t deny the chokehold that cleaning content has on us anymore. So, we’ve collected some of the most satisfying cleaning pics shared by people on this subreddit. You don’t have to follow in their footsteps; just appreciate and marvel at the hard work that went into making these things and spaces look this good!

Recently Had A Bad Episode Of A Couple Months Of Depression. Finally Cleaned My Room
Well done. It’s tough - I think there are people who don’t truly understand how much depression can derail you.
I like how there is a picture of the dog hanging on the wall, where he sits in the same position.
Thank you, you did a great job. Now there's finally enough space for me again on my favorite spot in our bed. xxx 🐶
I KNOW how debilitating depression is. It sucks the life right out of you. All you want to do is escape, either through tv, reading, booze or drugs.
Sometimes a messy room is not always a sign of laziness or business. Diogenes syndrome, or messy house syndrome, is linked to mental disorders like depression, dementia, and addiction. It is known to cause hoarding, dirty homes, and poor personal hygiene. People suffering from this syndrome usually live alone, are unaware of such conditions, or have restricted mobility.
Cluttered and dirty spaces have earned themselves the name “depression rooms” on social media. Extreme cases of such spaces consist of overwhelming amounts of garbage, clothes, dust, dishes, and other questionable things covering all surfaces. People become so mentally and physically exhausted that they don’t feel like they have the energy to take care of themselves or their environment.
Every Weekend I Cleaning For Free For Depression People
Wow this his wholesome. I would need this but I have a hard time let go my stuff so I have to sort it out by myself. It's constant work, it's exhausting, everyday there is more to do but with no energy after work... It's draining.... It helps to be a little less harsh to oneself and accept that there is still clutter and laundry and it could be worse.
Getting rid of one thing a day is 30 things a month (or so) and sometmes doing it as slowly as that can make it achievable - or even spur you to do more (I'm speaking from personal experience). Mine isn't too bad now (so my husband keeps telling me anyway!) but if FEELS it. Yesterday I went through two bathroom cabinets and got rid of some expired products and today I'm going to get rid of a few more clothes. I've had luck selling some things on Vinted as well. Small steps. I wish you luck. It's not easy when it's an emotional connection that is holding you back (for me some clothes remind me of when life was less painful and I could work and I don't want to get rid of them, even though I have zero reason for keeping them). You CAN do it, but it is fine to do it at your pace. 🙂 Edit: Got rid of some jackets just now! Felt motivated suddenly!

Screw my stupid screen name, but God bless this person. Just wow. Beautiful.
If you have 2-3 hours available.... I would pay you! It's nothing like the picture, but my knees limit my cleaning efforts
My house is buried in trash. I'm not physically able to take care of it myself, and the people I've hired in the last months haven't done their jobs. Because of my legal situation. I hate hate hate the mess, but I can't afford professional cleaning. I'm on disability.

Cleaned My Stove After A Year Of Neglect. (Depression Sucks Man) I’m Proud Of This!
My stove looked like the original when I moved in. Unable to clean the chrome inserts any better than you did in the second picture. I bought "Range Burner Chrome Drip Pans Replacement" from Amazon for $16.71. Worth it just for the satisfaction of looking at them.
Statistics show that about 75% of people who suffer from OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) have common cleaning urges such as organizing, rearranging, disinfecting, hand washing, or complex personal hygiene. While these activities are considered normal for most people, they often become time-consuming for someone with OCD. Repetitive behaviors are used to cope with unwanted thoughts that these people have. They might even think “If I don’t line up my toiletries exactly this far apart, someone is going to harm me today, or if I clean my sink five times this morning, my brother won’t get sick today.”
However, a cluttered or spotless room doesn’t define every mental disorder, so it’s best to approach this topic sensitively.
Before And After Of My Living Room. Been Dealing With Pretty Bad Depression For About 6 Years
I finally found the motivation and energy to clean. It may have taken me 2 weeks but it’s done and I hope it never gets that bad again
I know how much energy it takes, especially with depression. Kudos to you!
Something that helps me is forcing myself to clean something, anything, especially when im not feeling motivated. Like if my kids have toys everywhere and I have both sinks full of dishes and laundry piling up I pick one of those things and call it good (unless I have energy and decide to take care of them all, which is rare). Its small but helps me feel like I have accomplished something
Good! Did you remember that there was a TV hanging on the wall? That must be how some archaeologists feel, I think...👏🏽
Before And After Of Cleaning A Stained And Yellowed Vintage Hand Crocheted Nightgown
I bought a pound of something called Retro Clean at the Houston Int'l Quilt Festival one year and it was *magic*. I later found out how to buy the active ingredient, sodium perborate, for a lot less online. Here's a google search that will start you on your way to saving some beautiful old fabric creations: https://www.google.com/search?q=sodium+perborate+vintage+fabric&oq=sodium+perborate+vintage+fabric&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDcwNjBqMGoxqAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Some people would judge, you helped instead. In this particular case, my first movement was a judgmental thinking (something like "being a single parent is too hard, but it's too much neglecting"). But OP just helped, instead of judging. Wonderful people provide such lessons. That's a gift.
Were you able to go be her some tips as well? Some people never learned / had the chance to learn HOW to clean. They just need someone to show them.
And they don't know how to showc their children either so any work they do is just undone almost instantly and they give up
Load More Replies...Being a single parent Is impossibly difficult without the wonderful people God sends . House help, yard work, car repair. I owed a mint in favors. I've tried and even unto the next generation is the debt being repaid. From my daughter advocacy and community volunteer work to my two sons and their work in mechanical repairs.
I imagine most of that mess was created by the child rather than the mum choosing to throw rubbish on the floor
Load More Replies...My Grandma Is A Horder Me An My Brother Did This In 2 Days
OP stated they got grandma’s permission and she appreciated their work. Also, a lot of this went into storage.
Big ups to you and your brother. That's an amazing job. Especially in two days.
It's a great room transformation, but please, try to get help for your grandma. She won't stop hoarding just because you cleaned up for her.
For some of us, tidying our space can be quite therapeutic. It helps to gain a sense of control and engage the brain in a repetitive activity that calms the mind. As cleaning is quite self-explanatory, it weirdly provides comfort to the human brain. Additionally, completing such tasks brings feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction. After a challenging day, even scrubbing your shower can make you feel like you succeeded at something.
It can also work as a mini-workout at home and provide similar benefits as exercising. Vacuuming, scrubbing, and sweeping floors, moving around the house, and running up and down flights of stairs can provide an outlet for energy and a release of brain chemicals that make us feel better. So if you’re stuck in a stress cage, it might be a good time to start cleaning.
On Today’s Episode Of Beating Depression... This Clean Made Me Sob. I Was Able To Purge And Organize
People who never experienced depression will never know the extent that it takes over your life. For me it's like fighting your way through a room full of molasses. It takes down every aspect of your world.

You can dye your grout if its light colored to give more definition to your flooring.
Yeah, this floor actually looks better with darker grout imo.
Load More Replies...I tried scrubbing for years at similar grout in our tiny, dark and unpleasant bathroom.. Didn't worked. I finally had enough, bought a paste and scrubbed it on the grout. Such a difference.
A friend used toilet bowl cleaner. Squirt along the grout lines and come back later to clean it up. Works well for her but I don't know if there's any long term grout damage. Maybe good for a move out cleaning.
After you clean your grout, you can use grout sealer on it and it will stay white. You'll need to reseal it every couple of years or so, but it's really worth it to have grout that looks like it's brand new all the time.
Oh no, scary twist. We have that same linoleum! On the left! I thought it's supposed to look duo tone...
After Months Of Just Going Through The Motions With The Mop, I Finally Got Down And Did A Proper Clean Of My Tiles
I got into a depressive period and neglected my kitchen floor too. I didn't even notice until the light hit it just right and I could see little "footpaths" left by my cats walking back and forth between the living room and the food bowls
The dirty ones almost seem to have a pattern and I like it more than the clean ones! :))
Extreme cleaning videos on social platforms are attracting billions of viewers with their captivating hacks and organizational tips. Currently, a trend on TikTok called “CleanTok” has attracted over 99.1 billion views, which inspires people to start tidying up and get their lives in order. It’s a way for people to discover new tools and cleaning techniques to make their lives more convenient. Additionally, the abundance of “clean with me” videos on YouTube prove the appeal these videos have. People play them in the background for a sense of motivation and company in their tidying endeavors.

I Detail Cars, This Is A Before And After
Last summer I had my classic car detailed by a proffesionel. Costs a arm and a leg but so worth it!
Better than my gasoline method. It clean the dirt just as well, but it's hard to use the car afterwards.
Good job. I can never understand how people let their cars get into this state.
Count yourself lucky. I sincerely hope you never understand
Load More Replies...However bad you think it is, the detailer has probably seen worse.
Load More Replies...My other half has discovered a YT channel devoted to 'detailing'. I. Was. Horrified. I was astounded to see the filth that some people drive around in like it's normal! And the scariest thing is that this guy makes a good living out if it so there must be a LOT of dirty people out there. And before I get shouted down by those who think they might be less able bodied car owners who have a good reason not to clean out their cars - these customers are quite capable, they simply choose to live like...well I was going to say pigs but that would be an insult to pigs. The used t*mpon was the worst 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Cleaning content online has the tendency to captivate our attention and not let go. It’s satisfying and soothing to see things being transformed with only a cleaning product and a sponge. Interestingly enough, watching a quick transformation from mess to tidiness can help you to unwind. It can even induce ASMR (tingling sensations) in some viewers, as long as the sounds and motions are gentle. Besides, people relate to authenticity and instead of showing a clean kitchen or a perfectly made bed, these videos show that not everything is always picture-perfect. Oh, and let’s be honest, it often makes us feel less guilty about our own mess.

Copper Sink Before/After
Copper sink ?! With star ornaments ?! Definitely created by a person who don't have to clean they own sink.
Maybe it was something else before it became sink?
Load More Replies...Copper is antimicrobial... so maybe not a bad choice for a sink (the embossed stars aren't well planned, though).
There are sealers available to protect the finish, but it requires frequent touch ups. The patina of the upper photo was likely the finish it was supposed to have. That original finish was likely scrubbed away. Might have to fight green oxidation from now on.
Just Cleaned Out My Closet For The First Time In A Loooong Time. Depression Is A B**ch, I Kicked Her A**
Am I the only one bothered by the shoes over the hangers? It's the first time I see such organization and I'm puzzled.
Copper Sink Before And After Cleaning
Please get it sealed to help stay on top of maintenance. It's possible the original patina was dark. When it's removed, oxidation starts almost immediately and will turn the finish green, like the Statue of Liberty. Watch especially for seams around faucets and drains. It's beautiful, but lots of work.
While we enjoy cleaning inspiration online, healthcare experts are noticing some risks that participants in this trend might face. In videos, people are seen filming themselves filling up a toilet, bath, or sink with large amounts of various cleaning products. The concept is known as "product overload," and doctors have commented on this, saying that mixing this many chemicals can result in severe reactions. Just because someone mixes chemicals in a video doesn’t mean that it is safe for viewers at home. But it’s not the only risk; flushing excessive amounts of mixed cleaners can affect the integrity of plumbing and impact the community’s wastewater. It’s important to remember that cleaning products are best used as directed on the label, and incorrect usage of chemicals might result in bodily reactions or damage to your home.

A Shower Transformation! Hardest Thing I’ve Cleaned
when my now ex & i had orders to another base we released our apartment a couple of days before we left. he had some single buddies who invited us to stay with them until we left. i was so tired from cleaning our old place all i wanted was to take a long hot bath...until i saw their tub. omg! but i dug in & cleaned it so i could soak. after they saw it they said they didn't know it was white as it was beige when they moved in & since they always took showers they never thought about the tub. guys can be clueless when it comes to things like that.
Next time get a scrub daddy, a large white vinegar and baking soda. Put down the soda, spill vinegar on it and start scrubbing. Comes of in seconds.
and also when you mix those, you get 'Sodium acetate' as final product. Wikipedia: "Sodium acetate is used as the carbon source for culturing bacteria." So just make sure to rince well after use? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_acetate

She's Not Perfect, But An Improvement Was Made
On stovetops I use a razor-blade glass scraper to remove as much of the burnt-on stuff as I can. The top of the stove is enameled, which is glass that is melted onto steel. (Not to be confused with enamel paint). Then I'll wipe up the loose bits and finish with a powdered cleanser like Comet. It makes short work of it.

Load More Replies...So Work Kinda Consumed My Life.. I'm Not Letting That Happen Again!
I always hope that after cleaning that it will stay this way and we just have to put everything in its place to keep it tidy.... But then everyday chaos hits us, piles go up and it's again so much work it's hard to start with....I hate this. I have a free day today. A day I should relax. I am now making laundry, dishes, the bed, putting stuff away and it's still so so much to do.... And with more than one person in the house the plan to keep it in one condition is always doomed in my experience. Everyone has a different sense of tidy, of where things should be stored, of energy to put things away....
I find it's often caused by just not having enough space. Things pile up on surfaces as I have nowhere to put them.
Load More Replies...No work could consume your life in such a way that your kitchen counter ends up like that... I'm sorry, maybe I'm judgmental (let the down votes commence) but I used to work 60 hours a week, for approximately 7-8 years (as a man living alone), but I never let my home get that way! If I did not feel like washing dishes in the evening, the next day they were spotless! Just pilling empty containers and leaving food in dishes, when the bin is 5 feet away is laziness, in my opinion, not because of work!
That's fine for you but as you can see in the comments and upvotes on many of this pics there are plenty people who struggle more. You are indeed judgemental and surely don't know the exhausting, overwhelming feeling we feel. I wish you the best to never come to this point. I Honestly Don't Know The Last Time My Parents Cleaned Their Tub, So I Took A Crack At It
My word. I always take my towel after I've dried off and I throw it in the tub. I get in it and dry off all the wetness, which in turn wipes up the body grease and soap scum we leave behind after every use. 2 minutes save me something like this.
I've been traumatized by those jet tubs. Never get them. Took a bath in one at someone's house, turned on the jets, ten seconds later realized they were pumping mold out and I was coated. I felt disgusting for weeks. Unless you use them very regularly, it's impossible to keep them clean and mold free.

Just Moved In And This Had To Be Done First! Thanks To Barkeepers Friend And Elbow Grease!
Once upon a time, maybe 15-20 years ago, manufacturers were promoting cleaning products that had Teflon in them. The idea, supposedly was, that if you cleaned something like your bathtub with this product, it would lay down a film of Teflon and then dirt wouldn't stick to it. Well, they had part of that right: the product deposited a film of Teflon... that dirt bonded to like an alloy. When I moved into my current place over 15 years ago, it took three months of constant cleaning and scraping and scouring, and finally a drill bit brush attachment, to get that gunk off the bath tub and shower walls. I think that the EPA pulled all that stuff off the market, at least I hope they did because it's a dangerous compound, but if not, people, don't use that. Just don't.
What a wonderful tub! So much room for a great soak! Might want to see if there's sealing products to protect all that hard work. Maybe make your life easier.
Baking soda and vinegar. You can have it spotless in 30 minutes or less.
Plug Socket Before And After
I really hope that you didn't clean this with soap and water. Or anything else that conducts electricity. Where do you find a cleaner that doesn't?
Likely cheap decorators for even cheaper landlords. They painted my old flat before I moved in but didn't bother removing the mirror (which was hung on a nail) to pain the bathroom so the blue from previous tenants was underneath, worst of all it was askew so when you straightened the mirror you could see where they hadn't painted....drove me potty

I keep seeing this Scrub Daddy when I shop and never think to really look at what it is. What is it, besides being a plain old sponge? (Not being snarky - genuinely wondering). Is it better than magic erasers?

what is mildew? My only connection is that it's a fungus on plants? Genuine question.

Had this problem in my bathroom. Used a cleaning foam with bleach and a mop to get this clean. Now I have DampRid in the bathroom and I don’t have this problem anymore. :)
It may grow back again if there is a lot of moisture. If so, get a cleaner with mildewacide.

Before And After Of Cleaning My Bathroom Closet!
They did a lovely job of organizing this closet, but I'm wondering: why would they store their folded towels on edge instead of stacked?
I love putting things vertically like this instead of stacking them. It makes it easier to select one without the whole stack falling over.

Depression can make doing the cleaning overwhelming. A useful strategy if you want to get it clean but don't know where to start is to choose a small section to do first, like the table top. Then choose another thing and you'll see that it is so much easier when you break it down into small parts. If any readers want to try this, I hope it helps.
I set a timer. For a really small amount of time. For instance for the 2 minutes while microwaving food I make myself wash dishes. You'd be amazed at how many dishes can get washed in 2 minutes. And once you start often you want to keep going. Or I'll agree with my son we work on picking up the living room together for 5 minutes. Amazing how much you can put away in 5 minutes. And then it's almost done so we just finish the job. But I have to use really small increments. There's also a website called focusmate. You pick a time to work on a task while another person virtually works on their task. Knowing that person needs me to keep going so they don't stop forces me to finish the project.

Same. My place isn't anything like the ones in some of these photos, but I could definitely stand to do some purging and decluttering.
Load More Replies...I will confess, I have a desk that I haven't cleaned in 15 years. I guess I don't need any of that stuff. I am getting some motivation here to tackle it.
See my comment in this section. Do it bit by bit. It's much easier.
Load More Replies...I have depression but I also have an anxiety disorder which means I have to have everything spotless and organised or I get super anxious. That’s also an absolute PITA. Maybe one day I could also do voluntary clean outs for people with depression as I’d actually love that.
Kitchen is never easy (as the rest of the house, of course). If I can't during the day, I try to do the dishes at the end of the day so I can wake up to a clean sink. And always do the bed as soon as I wake up, that gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Such wonderful transformations. I understand it can be a lack of motivation when tidying and keep things tidy. Well done.
I've spent this week giving my house a deep clean ready for the busy Christmas period. I love it when everything is clean, polished, tidied and looking good. It makes me happy. I have to be careful because I can get quite a**l about the amount of time I spend cleaning, and as I live with chronic pain and disability I need not to over do things. But having a beautifully clean space always makes me feel so good!
So proud of anyone who can break through the barrier of depression or any other thing stopping them and accomplish what they set out to. I wish more than anything I could just bring myself to do anything. I feel so alone and can't get into see anyone until December 28th. I never thought I would feel like this and have no one. Well, I do have a wonderful husband, but he's recouping from cancer treatment so I try not to put too much on him.
So sorry to hear Carla. Can you get some free phone based help in the meantime? I found those free mental health lines really useful when I was really stuck. All the best to you and your husband x
Load More Replies...My dad was a light hoarder too (he wasn't depressed or anything, he just didn't like to throw away stuffs that were sentimental to him). After he passed, I and mom decided to clean out or give away 2/3 of the stuffs he kept (some of them are older than me, some had already been stored here when he built the house in 1995). Somehow, the house sure looks lighter and brighter after the cleanup.
