Like most of us (including your least favorite people), his legacy was a mixed bag.

People are imperfect. Theodore Roosevelt was the product of a racist society—as am I, and as are you. The fact that he was able to look past his cultural conditioning to support an individual that was Black and female is impressive and should be celebrated. The fact that Roosevelt was unable to do so in all aspects of his life is hardly surprising and certainly worthy of comment, but it does not detract from his actions.

Because the government consisted of pretty much only straight men, and they knew how arousing women's bóobs are, but don't find men's bodies attractive. They assume only men are really interested in s*x, so they don't even considered that a man's naked upper body could be arousing to women. (And the fact that gay/bi men exist was just ignored anyway). Also, people usually won't make laws that will limit themselves, only laws that will limit others, so they're onlikely to make laws that limit men's freedom. But yes, it is absolutely ridiculous.

Old law based on old ideas. Same reason male homosexually was illegal in Britain for many years but lesbianism wasn't. Men made the laws. Men fetishize b***s...no woman has ever been turned on by a jiggling pair of man b***s.

It's just sexism, pure and simple.

In Canada, women are legally allowed to be topless pretty much anywhere bc it’s sexist that men are afforded that “luxury” and women aren’t.

As a male, I don't get it either, though maybe because men don't do anything with that part of their bodies.

it`s about control - in general men want to control women. Frankly - i prefer women in control, as i`m kinda helpless on my own (yes, i`m a man). And given the state of the world - men are way too emotional (angry) .. look at the wars going on.. not women that started those.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

Here's the really sad thing. In Canada, it's been legal for women to go topless for around 30 years now, and I've never seen a single woman do it. If women can't walk around in clothing without being harassed and possibly assaulted, they'd have to be out of their minds to walk around topless. Personally, I have no interest in seeing anyone topless but people should be free and safe to do so.

I saw something about this 30+ years ago. For a woman to walk around topless, a womans chest would have to be "classified" as something different than it is now. Like as a man's chest. Of course we should never touch one another without consent BUT...I could walk up to man at the gym and say "Good Lift!" and smack him on the chest because of this "classification". Some women may not like that. Anyone can say never touch me again, but most men know not to do this to women right away.
