How we act around cats can have a real effect on how they behave. For instance, one study showed that cats were much more social and spent much more time with people who were paying attention to them than people who were ignoring them.
One way to ensure that your cat is giving you the love, attention, and affection that you deserve is to give what you expect to receive, take proper care of your pet, and build bonds of friendship bit by tiny bit. That involves feeding your pet a healthy diet, giving it enough exercise, and showering it with attention. And even though some individual animals are big ol’ meanies no matter what you do, they’ll be more likely to stop pooping in your shoes and knocking stuff off the kitchen counter to get your attention if they know they’re being looked after by their loyal butlers (aka us).

Just like teenagers, cats might act out because they’ve got too much pent up energy (or anxiety about how the world doesn’t recognize their brilliance). Bored Panda spoke to the UK’s leading pet charity, the PDSA, about how to take care of cats, to keep them lean, healthy, and how to help fight feline obesity. After all, if you want your mischievous pet to live a long and happy life, you’ve got to lend it a helping paw.
The PDSA told us that owners who want their felines to be slimmer and healthier should always weigh out their pets' food and choose a diet that's appropriate for their life stage and activity levels. This means toning down feeding your cat anything and everything in your kitchen and even speaking with your vet or nurse about what they'd recommend for your pet.

However, while at home, you should also do your best to play lots of interactive games with your cat to help them get up and about.
"Fishing rod-style toys are great for this but encouraging jumping, running, and playing will help and some cats can even be trained to play 'fetch' and will love the time spent with you," the PDSA explained. You'll get your cat moving, you'll spend quality time together and, who knows, all that extra movement might just be useful for pet owners as well.

Way back when my sister and I were teenagers, my parents would set the breakfast table the night before so my dad wouldn’t be so rushed in the morning before work. One night he forgot something downstairs and when he looked he saw my sisters cat sitting on his breakfast plate just looking around as if this was a normal routine for him. Let’s just say my parents left the plates in the cupboard until morning from then on.

My cat Hobby loved taunting the neighbor's dog, who really wasn't friendly with cats...He used to get close to the fence, facing it, calmly sit and meow, driving the big German Sheppard nuts and jumping up trying to come over the fence (it was high enough, fortunately). As soon as the dog calmed, he meowed again...

I treated myself to a Tiffany-style table lamp with dripping cascades of purple wisteria blooms done in stained glass for the shade & solid bronze for the base. The cat didn't like it & knocked it off the table the first night. I was able to bend the shade part back into shape (more or less) since the metal was soft. I moved it away from the edge of the table. The cat still doesn't like it.

My cat likes to sleep on top of my plushies. I had to get a big one, 'cause she's big now and the smol pushies aren't satisfying her anymore, so I got her to sleep on me while I got a bigger one. Anyway, after that, when I got the plush, she dragged it on top of me (Meaning: On my neck, she slept on my chest these few days without the plush) and sleps on top of it, on top of me. I now wake up every night, being suffocated by a plush that my cat is on top of.

Cats are jerks. My friend's father found out--fortunately AFTER the cat passed--that every time he yelled at the cat (for instance, when the cat got on the counter and stole the fish for dinner) the cat went into his closet and s**t in his good shoes. He went to get them for a funeral...

I can't be mad at anything cats do, I love them so much! There's a cat at work, she's only 8 years old and was a rescue. She has a cancerous growth on one of her legs and it's getting bigger every day. The owner has decided not to go for any treatment as she would lose a leg so she will pass away soon. It's heartbreaking. The nicest cat I've ever met :(

Are you serious? We had a dog that every single time people would come over he'd go knock over the bathroom trash and fish out a used female sanitary product and bring it to them. He and others we had ate socks, underwear, adored dirty kleenex, destroyed a whole case of toilet paper, ate a fence, learned how to work the gate latch so they could wander the neighborhood, climb a 6' wooden fence, knocked over a plate of tbone steaks and ate one, ate an antique library book that cost $180 to replace, would break into a kids bedroom and eat just the faces off every single stuffed animal, and one would bark continuously only when he was outside doing his business and got the cops called multiple times and threatened to be taken by animal control dogs can be terrible!! (This was 4 dogs over the course of a decade, not just 1 dog and every one of tgem passed obedience class and would walk on a leash, listen to commands etc, but still had things they'd sneak and do!)

What's normal to some isn't normal to others. They aren't some vanity thing to be thrown away when they misbehave. People like you are why my cat was abandoned in the first place--his previous owners left him in bushland. He was saved by a friend of mine who unfortunately died and we took him. My cat can be a jerk sometimes-- he is very vocal and 'annoying'. But he is the sweetest most loving little guy. He never scratches furniture, he never jumps on the kitchen bench or anything. He loves hugs and being curled up with us... his only negative trait is he's yowler sometimes. But it doesn't make him a jerk, it just makes him a cat, and I would never abandon him just cuz he likes to meow it out a bit.

I treated myself to a Tiffany-style table lamp with dripping cascades of purple wisteria blooms done in stained glass for the shade & solid bronze for the base. The cat didn't like it & knocked it off the table the first night. I was able to bend the shade part back into shape (more or less) since the metal was soft. I moved it away from the edge of the table. The cat still doesn't like it.

My cat likes to sleep on top of my plushies. I had to get a big one, 'cause she's big now and the smol pushies aren't satisfying her anymore, so I got her to sleep on me while I got a bigger one. Anyway, after that, when I got the plush, she dragged it on top of me (Meaning: On my neck, she slept on my chest these few days without the plush) and sleps on top of it, on top of me. I now wake up every night, being suffocated by a plush that my cat is on top of.

Cats are jerks. My friend's father found out--fortunately AFTER the cat passed--that every time he yelled at the cat (for instance, when the cat got on the counter and stole the fish for dinner) the cat went into his closet and s**t in his good shoes. He went to get them for a funeral...

I can't be mad at anything cats do, I love them so much! There's a cat at work, she's only 8 years old and was a rescue. She has a cancerous growth on one of her legs and it's getting bigger every day. The owner has decided not to go for any treatment as she would lose a leg so she will pass away soon. It's heartbreaking. The nicest cat I've ever met :(

Are you serious? We had a dog that every single time people would come over he'd go knock over the bathroom trash and fish out a used female sanitary product and bring it to them. He and others we had ate socks, underwear, adored dirty kleenex, destroyed a whole case of toilet paper, ate a fence, learned how to work the gate latch so they could wander the neighborhood, climb a 6' wooden fence, knocked over a plate of tbone steaks and ate one, ate an antique library book that cost $180 to replace, would break into a kids bedroom and eat just the faces off every single stuffed animal, and one would bark continuously only when he was outside doing his business and got the cops called multiple times and threatened to be taken by animal control dogs can be terrible!! (This was 4 dogs over the course of a decade, not just 1 dog and every one of tgem passed obedience class and would walk on a leash, listen to commands etc, but still had things they'd sneak and do!)

What's normal to some isn't normal to others. Some families find it normal to leave their shoes at the door, some pray before meals, some call their loved ones "you sorry son of a *****" before pulling them in for a hug and a kiss, some never say "I love you" but give the best presents. We're all different. Doesn't mean hate or disrespect.

Let me guess, you hate anything that inconveniences you or your life because you think the rest of the world revolves around you instead? I don't care what your deal is, people that harm cats are sociopaths. The guy down the street that hurt your cat? He committed a federal crime, and he deserve to have the book thrown at him. 7 years jail would be nice. 'He pooped in my begonias' is NEVER an excuse for harming a pet.

They aren't some vanity thing to be thrown away when they misbehave. People like you are why my cat was abandoned in the first place--his previous owners left him in bushland. He was saved by a friend of mine who unfortunately died and we took him. My cat can be a jerk sometimes-- he is very vocal and 'annoying'. But he is the sweetest most loving little guy. He never scratches furniture, he never jumps on the kitchen bench or anything. He loves hugs and being curled up with us... his only negative trait is he's yowler sometimes. But it doesn't make him a jerk, it just makes him a cat, and I would never abandon him just cuz he likes to meow it out a bit.
