Bored Panda spoke to the UK’s leading pet charity, the PDSA, about how to take care of cats, to keep them lean, healthy, and how to help fight feline obesity. After all, if you want your mischievous pet to live a long and happy life, you’ve got to lend it a helping paw.
The PDSA told us that owners who want their felines to be slimmer and healthier should always weigh out their pets' food and choose a diet that's appropriate for their life stage and activity levels. This means toning down feeding your cat anything and everything in your kitchen and even speaking with your vet or nurse about what they'd recommend for your pet.

Went Missing Yesterday. Came Home Tonight About Two Hours After I'd Printed The Expensive Flyers. Jerk
One of my cats ran away for 25 hours back in July. That entire day was rough. We spent all night, all morning, all evening looking for her, to no avail. But, hooray, the cat came back on her own accord.
Mine disappeared for a week once, we put flyers in all the mailboxes around the neighbourhood and went door to door around our block too, nothing. We feared the worst. Then he randomly turned up a week later a bit confused in our back yard... we have no idea where he was or what he was doing. If he was stuck somewhere or what. So now he has a 200 dollar GPS now and a camera, lol.
Good call, with the camera and all. Next time, you'll net a pretty cool movie of his intergalactic travels, taken during another of his totally random and unplanned (Time-Unaccounted-For) "Abductions" which just so happen to take place every first weekend of the new moon.

Usually give your cat about 48 hours before you spend the $$ on something like this. If they get out the first time in a LONG time.. Sometimes it takes 2 days.. Maybe 3. It's just best calling their names around your area every hour or so. Then a flyer. Idk. One slept under cars or up in cars. My other 2 were in a neighbours home. I grabbed my fluffy from her back porch as he was screaming every time I called his name. He smelled of her perfume! When she sees me, my neighbour she asks me all about how he's doing and wants to see him 😒 As well as she had my other cat in her home for 2 days and as I called him after that long he came through her window. I thought he got hit by a car. I was so upset!! Now I do everything I can to keep them inside. This lady has her own cat.. And constantly gets angry if someone feeds her cat. Lol
My cat was away from Friday until Monday... think she got locked up in someone's garage. I did not sleep well that weekend! She sure did feel sorry for herself when she skulked back into the house and had something to eat. I was SOOOOOOOOOO relieved.
My cat slipped out back in June. In late October I saw her on the humane society web site and they agreed that the cat they had looked exactly like the picture of my cat. I went and picked her up, donated 50 dollars for her care, so happy my Banshee was back. Not even a week later, who comes trotting up to the door like she hadn't been gone for four months, but the real Banshee. Now I have two calico cats that look exactly alike.

My wife lost her cat. Within 12-18 hours, she had made fliers and contacted neighbors. About 48 hours later I was in the backyard. I heard meowing and finally found Spike. He was about 12-15 feet up a tree. The next day the neighbor asked if we had found the cat. It was funny. Did I mention that Spike is blind?
I don't see how you find the fact that your wife's blind cat, (which shouldn't have been outside in the first place) was hiding in a tree for 48 hours, probably terrified, waiting to be rescued, as funny.

I came home once, couldn't find my kitty for 2 hours, he's indoor only, we live on the 4th floor, no access to outside. I thought someone broke in and stole him, no response to calling his name or shaking his favourite treat bag (usually he comes RUNNING). After 2 hours of searching every crevice of the small apartment I was in tears, about to call to report him stolen. Turn around to see him casually laid out on the floor looking at me like I'm a crazy person

The late Dougy slipped outside when I checked the weather once before sunup. I didn't miss him until well in the morning 0 cats sleep a lot and have their little places - but when I realized he was gone, I created a "missing cat" poster, posted it on Facebook, and printed out posters that I drove around town to post. I also drove around to try to find him. When I got back home, a friend knocked on the door. There was a cat that matched Dougy's photo hiding behind a snow drift not 100 feet from my front door. Yes, it was Dougy! I spent another hour or so removing the "missing cat" posters, happy to have Dougy home again, but more aware of where he was any time I had the door open. dougy-miss...fec9a1.jpg 
We had a cat when I was a kid, named Scuffy, that when he wanted in would jump up into the kitchen window above the sink so you would open it and let him in. Well he disappeared for 2 years and all the sudden one day there he was sitting in the window wanting in like no time had ever passed.
My Nanna's cat once disappeared for a week. She and my mom went into the field behind their house looking for her. They didn't find the cat but found out that ground hogs can climb 8' fences and chase people. The cat came back a few days later. With herpes in her eye.
About 6 or 7 years ago when I was 9 or 10 one of our cats got outside and was missing for over a year. We were so sad and just started to eventually think he had unfortunately passed away because we live in Wisconsin and he got out in the Winter. Luckily, an older couple found him and fed him and took care of him until the next spring when the older man was getting his boat ready for the Summer and found his collar and they were able to call us and the vet. That was the happiest day of our lives! Cats really can be jerks sometimes!

Luckily he was home that quickly. I still remember the horror of my cat going missing for 11 days. Cat came home traumatized of locked doors so she probably got stuck somewhere where they went on a vacation or something like that. Still have a flyer just so I have a reference as to what to write if I ever have to go through that again
One time after returning from holiday my mother couldn’t find the cat. After a few days of him missing, she threw away all his possessions, thinking he must have died somewhere . Two days later he turned up. Apparently he’d tried to get his collar off, and had managed to get his entire front right leg through so that his collar was going under what would equate to his armpit.

My cat vanished for about 4 weeks. Occasionally I wondered where he was, but he just seems emancipated. Then we found out that he just prefers living with Indian people because they have a nicer house than us. Not just one lot of Indians, but in two different houses in two different suburbs, he's decamped and found the nearest Indians to move in with because they have more expensive decor than us. My cat is so racist it's ridiculous.
Same thing happened to one of my cats except it turns out she was hidden inside my box springs from my bed.

Some people adopt older cats with their own quirks and personalities and misbehaviors. Not everyone gets a brand new kitten to hand raise and train not to do this stuff.... my cat was adopted older but he is well behaved he doesn't scratch furniture or anything. But he still has his quirks... he's vocal, he likes to push things off desks (mostly trinkets to play with, nothing big) he loves sitting on things you're looking at or reading, these are pretty typical cat behaviors... moreover, just like dogs, cats breeds have different traits. For example how sheepdogs need more excercise and stimulation, certain cats are high energy and others are chill.... its hard to know what yours is going to be until you have them.

Way back when my sister and I were teenagers, my parents would set the breakfast table the night before so my dad wouldn’t be so rushed in the morning before work. One night he forgot something downstairs and when he looked he saw my sisters cat sitting on his breakfast plate just looking around as if this was a normal routine for him. Let’s just say my parents left the plates in the cupboard until morning from then on.
Gentle reminder that cats kill a huge amount of birds and are susceptible to disease, getting attacked by animals, or hit by cars, so please keep them inside as best you can!

My cat Hobby loved taunting the neighbor's dog, who really wasn't friendly with cats...He used to get close to the fence, facing it, calmly sit and meow, driving the big German Sheppard nuts and jumping up trying to come over the fence (it was high enough, fortunately). As soon as the dog calmed, he meowed again...
I treated myself to a Tiffany-style table lamp with dripping cascades of purple wisteria blooms done in stained glass for the shade & solid bronze for the base. The cat didn't like it & knocked it off the table the first night. I was able to bend the shade part back into shape (more or less) since the metal was soft. I moved it away from the edge of the table. The cat still doesn't like it.
Fantastic! Got through these with some Kleenex and some serious bladder control lol..
My cat likes to sleep on top of my plushies. I had to get a big one, 'cause she's big now and the smol pushies aren't satisfying her anymore, so I got her to sleep on me while I got a bigger one. Anyway, after that, when I got the plush, she dragged it on top of me (Meaning: On my neck, she slept on my chest these few days without the plush) and sleps on top of it, on top of me. I now wake up every night, being suffocated by a plush that my cat is on top of.

I can't be mad at anything cats do, I love them so much! There's a cat at work, she's only 8 years old and was a rescue. She has a cancerous growth on one of her legs and it's getting bigger every day. The owner has decided not to go for any treatment as she would lose a leg so she will pass away soon. It's heartbreaking. The nicest cat I've ever met :(

Are you serious? We had a dog that every single time people would come over he'd go knock over the bathroom trash and fish out a used female sanitary product and bring it to them. He and others we had ate socks, underwear, adored dirty kleenex, destroyed a whole case of toilet paper, ate a fence, learned how to work the gate latch so they could wander the neighborhood, climb a 6' wooden fence, knocked over a plate of tbone steaks and ate one, ate an antique library book that cost $180 to replace, would break into a kids bedroom and eat just the faces off every single stuffed animal, and one would bark continuously only when he was outside doing his business and got the cops called multiple times and threatened to be taken by animal control dogs can be terrible!! (This was 4 dogs over the course of a decade, not just 1 dog and every one of tgem passed obedience class and would walk on a leash, listen to commands etc, but still had things they'd sneak and do!)

... they're great nonetheless! Some of these just show that their humans aren't really educated in how to cat. Too much rubbish standing around that attracts them to brake it ... like christmas trees ... why don't you put them in a cage? Not the cats, of course, the tree ... why are your cabinet doors so easy to open? There's a lot of stuff meant to prevent small children from having access to dangerous things like knives or so ... you can use that to prevent cats from opening the same doors ... etc...
While some of this behaviour is reprehensible, however none of it is as bad as your pet dog mauling or killing someone and you the owner getting the blame and maybe even prison! Cats can really only break your heart when they disappear and you never ever find out what happened to them.

They aren't some vanity thing to be thrown away when they misbehave. People like you are why my cat was abandoned in the first place--his previous owners left him in bushland. He was saved by a friend of mine who unfortunately died and we took him. My cat can be a jerk sometimes-- he is very vocal and 'annoying'. But he is the sweetest most loving little guy. He never scratches furniture, he never jumps on the kitchen bench or anything. He loves hugs and being curled up with us... his only negative trait is he's yowler sometimes. But it doesn't make him a jerk, it just makes him a cat, and I would never abandon him just cuz he likes to meow it out a bit.

He and others we had ate socks, underwear, adored dirty kleenex, destroyed a whole case of toilet paper, ate a fence, learned how to work the gate latch so they could wander the neighborhood, climb a 6' wooden fence, knocked over a plate of tbone steaks and ate one, ate an antique library book that cost $180 to replace, would break into a kids bedroom and eat just the faces off every single stuffed animal, and one would bark continuously only when he was outside doing his business and got the cops called multiple times and threatened to be taken by animal control dogs can be terrible!! (This was 4 dogs over the course of a decade, not just 1 dog and every one of tgem passed obedience class and would walk on a leash, listen to commands etc, but still had things they'd sneak and do!)

What's normal to some isn't normal to others. Some families find it normal to leave their shoes at the door, some pray before meals, some call their loved ones "you sorry son of a *****" before pulling them in for a hug and a kiss, some never say "I love you" but give the best presents. We're all different. Doesn't mean hate or disrespect.

Too much rubbish standing around that attracts them to brake it ... like christmas trees ... why don't you put them in a cage? Not the cats, of course, the tree ... why are your cabinet doors so easy to open? There's a lot of stuff meant to prevent small children from having access to dangerous things like knives or so ... you can use that to prevent cats from opening the same doors ... etc...
While some of this behaviour is reprehensible, however none of it is as bad as your pet dog mauling or killing someone and you the owner getting the blame and maybe even prison! Cats can really only break your heart when they disappear and you never ever find out what happened to them.
"You cat owners," doesn't track with "shot mine," because that would make you a cat owner too. Let me guess, you hate anything that inconveniences you or your life because you think the rest of the world revolves around you instead? I don't care what your deal is, people that harm cats are sociopaths. The guy down the street that hurt your cat? He committed a federal crime, and he deserve to have the book thrown at him. 7 years jail would be nice. 'He pooped in my begonias' is NEVER an excuse for harming a pet.
Load More Replies... They aren't some vanity thing to be thrown away when they misbehave. People like you are why my cat was abandoned in the first place--his previous owners left him in bushland. He was saved by a friend of mine who unfortunately died and we took him. My cat can be a jerk sometimes-- he is very vocal and 'annoying'. But he is the sweetest most loving little guy. He never scratches furniture, he never jumps on the kitchen bench or anything. He loves hugs and being curled up with us... his only negative trait is he's yowler sometimes. But it doesn't make him a jerk, it just makes him a cat, and I would never abandon him just cuz he likes to meow it out a bit.
