VK is the Facebook of the Russian speaking world, and 2D Among Us is one of its prominent community art projects. The project combines various pop-figure icons from movies and television with mundane photos, sometimes as social commentary, and sometimes just for the clever juxtaposition of images.
"The community aims for the synthesis of art and photography for a more complete blend of the fictional characters into the real world," explains Bored Panda user sixbee. Sometimes, "The goal is to attract the attention of the viewer to Russia’s social problems."
